    Your question regarding other lenses, when turned on your phone automatically switches to ultra wide lens for macro, even if you selected 1x or 3x before. Thanks for great video!

      That makes a lot of sense! I was super confused that Apple marketed the Macro Mode as a feature of the Ultrawide lens but then didn't allow you to use Macro Mode on the lens. I'll pin your comment🙏🙏

      They should all work well! The key is using a third-party app so that you can adjust your settings to fit the 14 Pro. I'm getting the 14 Pro soon so expect a video in the coming months!

      @@photoswithphones well i have seen some of them don’t work with the 14 pro because of the new sensor size. I don’t remember the technical word for it, but you can often see the sides of the lens. Many were complaining about the premium lenses no longer being compatible
      I look forward to your video

    Hi, I have the iPhone 14pro and the Moment 10x macro and I have a few questions. I felt like I could not use the apple camera software because their algorithms get in the way of focusing around a single lens. You didn't mention the software at all. Did you find a workaround? I've been using Halide to get around this. Do you have a recommendation if you do use another software?

    • @photoswithphones
      @photoswithphones  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question and sorry for the delayed response. Apple's software is annoying with the Moment lenses, so I do my mobile filmmaking in BeastCam and my mobile photography in Halide. You could do both in BeastCam or Moment Pro Camera, but I have my reasons for using separate apps. It's really a preference thing.
      I hope this helps! If you want to talk more about why I do what I do, then please comment back. I'd love to chat🤓🤓

    Hi Joe
    I always enjoy your videos and a lot of times I watch the same ones again. I know one time you said you use the Pixel A series as your everyday phone. Recently I switched from my 5A to the 7Pro. My question are lenses (whether Moment or Sandmarc) going to improve the 7Pro cameras to just ify the cost of those lenses? Even the 7Pro has macro built into the 7Pro.

    Curious why all cameras don’t come with a lens built in and the attachments make it better? (I.e. neutral lens in the body of the camera). What are your thoughts?

    • @photoswithphones
      @photoswithphones  ปีที่แล้ว

      All smartphone manufacturers make their cameras slightly different so it would be tough to do. I think eventually some phones will be made this way though, but I think we’re a ways away from that. Essentially, smartphones need to improve their sensors and get an adjustable aperture before this idea is really worth doing. Just my opinion though!!

      Both lenses will work, but none will have a dedicated phone case because Moment stopped making M-Series cases for the Galaxy phones.The mounting clip that comes with the Apexel is passable (I got some good stuff on my Google Pixel), but the Moment lens and BeastGrip Pro Lens Adapter is the highest quality option.

    The issue with these external macro lenses is that the smartphone developers/manufacturers keep the exact specs/tech of their lenses a close secret so it is near impossible to make a lens that perfectly suits any specific lens, let alone lenses from multiple different smartphones.
    It is very common with these external lenses to have issues with chromatic aberration and issues with focus.
    I'd prefer to see a comparison of smartphones that have macro lenses built in.
    I got a Huawei mate 10 a couple years ago which was the first to have macro lens built in, and from these images, it doesn't look like much innovation has happened as far as macro lenses go since then... at least not in this iphone you are showcasing.

    • @photoswithphones
      @photoswithphones  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get your argument but I disagree on a number of points.
      For one, Moment absolutely works with Apple, Google, and Samsung to build lenses and apps that work well with their full range of smartphones. Yes there are chromatic aberrations issues at times, but as a whole, the lenses produce good results. Use a third-party app to hone in the settings for ideal results.
      I've never been remotely impressed with a built-in macro lens as they lack megapixels and produce weird color profiles. Even Apple's recent macro mode leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion.

      Duane - thank you as always for your kind and thoughtful comments!
      I have not tested the Pixel 7 series yet, but the reviews sure are good. I'm pretty partial to the Google A series - I'm still using the 4a with 5G as my everyday phone. Do note that Moment's case for the Pixel 7 series doesn't allow for mounting Moment lenses!!
      I'm not a huge fan of Samsung as I feel like the phones just aren't as user friendly when out shooting. Moment also seems to not make usable cases for Galaxy anymore...
      I will point out that I've heard of companies that aren't Moment that make cases for both phones that allow you to attach Moment lenses. I'm not finding any at the Moment, but it would certainly be worth looking into more thoroughly. The M-Series Lens Mount is always an option, but I'm not a huge fan. I would recommend the BeastGrip Pro Lens Adapter( beastgrip.kckb.st/8b70eb53) if you choose either of the smartphones you mentioned.
      I hope this helps!!

      Thank you for your very detailed and informative reply!! Since you also use the Pixel A series phone I'm curious what third party camera app that you think works best with Pixel? When I used my LG V60 I loved the Pro Mode which allowed more control (focus peeking, manual/auto focus, WB, Exposure control) where my Pixel 3A and 5A doesn't give you that option. I know Light Room has a camera app built in it and there are other 3rd party apps I was wondering what your thoughts or personal experience has found?
      All the best to you!

      @@duanemcclun very good question. Unfortunately camera apps for Android aren't great. I use filmic pro for video because it's the only top tier option and I paid for it years ago. If I had to buy it today though I probably wouldn't. In terms of photography, Lightroom is probably your best bet for free manual control.
      I hope this helps - I'm sorry the options aren't better. For iPhone I have favorite apps for photo and video, neither of which is supported on Android. It's a bummer, but unfortunately I don't see it changing anytime soon. Honestly it's why I shoot with an iPhone even though I prefer Android for my everyday phone.

      I have also observed better camera apps for iPhone and the main reason I don't switch to iPhone for photos is I don't want to carry two phones with me (one for phone and one for photos) and I don't want to learn a new OS phone. If only Snapseed had a built in camera app! I tried Manual Camera app and it was okay BUT the flash from the phone isn't in sync with the apps shutter so you end up with a dark photo.
