I had similar experience last year with my Amaryllis. I had planted 3 of my bulbs in the garden. Early in the summer, it seemed they were happy with large strappy leaves. But, later in the fall it developed similar red blotch. It may have something to do with over-irrigation due to fall grass seeding of my yard. I cut off the infected leaves and peeled as many infected layers of the onion like layers. Then I dusted them with Bonide Sulphur and stowed away for a couple of months. Finally, I was able to salvage 2 of the bulbs but the third went mush. The two that I salvaged bloomed during the holidays early next year.
Thanks so much for sharing this experience. I'm glad to hear you were able to rescue two of them! I'm curious - were the bulbs planted close together outside? Or in different locations? Always so helpful to hear from fellow gardeners!
@@NorthlawnFlowerFarmandGardens All three bulbs were planted in a row, close together and all had gotten infected. In any case, your videos are very informative and I love to watch your beautiful garden.
When i had Amaryllis in pots in California, I did just treat them as houseplants, and would place outside in the summer, in a protected spot. They rebloomed with very little care. Watching all this now, as we live in Illinois, and growing Amaryllis and paperwhites seems more challenging.
@@NorthlawnFlowerFarmandGardens Whatttttttt.. You are going to make me run over there haha. Such an amazing find. It is so beautiful.. I love these sort of deals. Thank you for sharing the price:)
I have started paperwhites for years and years and always waited until they get tall and then use chop sticks stuck into gravel and then tie jute or decorative string. But sometimes the sticks tip over. So your idea of using the frogs in the container is a fabulous and innovative idea. Thank you for sharing. Paula Carli-Windmill Flower Farm
Put the amaryllis bulb in a pot close to the house under the eaves so it won’t get too wet from the rain. Thanks so much for your videos. I love them 👍
I bought a double white in a box on clearance for 3.75 a couple of months ago. Brought it home not really expecting much as I’ve never had this flower before. Well, I’ve been pleasantly surprised! I have 2 flower stems, 1 is getting ready to bloom, I’m so excited! I’m glad I found your video on how to care for them. Thanks!
Great ideas for decorating with pinecones!! I planted mine today too now I'll go collect pinecones tomorrow because I forgot moss while at garden centre today.
growing paperwhites this year .. growing in water made them tall and bloom super fast.. growing in dirt made them slower to bloom and shorter in height.. they were about 10 days behind the ones in water and I made sure to keep the soil damp..
Hi Danielle you are so great at explaining everything so well,I love watching your videos, such a pleasure!!I live in Glorida so u have a large window box that I have planted amaryllis bulbs for years now and have had much success w them ,they bloom about twice a year ,I keep them watered and had meal bone to them!!You are amazing
Hi Danielle! I love all your tips! I just planted my amaryllis today! I got a similar box kit from Lowe’s. About $6 also. This is my first time growing these and I’m excited it’s it short growing time!
Thank you so much for that information I have never heard of it but then again I’m not a gardener for a long long time either so but I do love the amaryllis and I have a lot of them myself so thank you again and I hope you have a great day and a very blessed day
My daughter bought me one for my birthday. I planted it on Nov 19 and the first flower open on Dec. 23 I was so surprised, It also grew over 2 feet tall lol
Great video and very comprehensive about growing the Amaryllis and Paper Whites! I’ve got three Amaryllis going but I need to slow one down. Thanks for all the great tips 💚👩🏼🌾
Thank you Danielle for all your very interesting videos ! You give us so much inspiration 🤩 I had never grown an Amaryllis before and bought this year for the first time some bulbs from some Dutch growers (as I live in Europe). Unfortunately, nearly all of those seem to be affected with the same red spots 😨 As I couldn’t find the courage to destroy them they finally grew pretty normally and have buds. Now I hope they’ll survive and be able to bloom normally 🤞🏼
Hello, beautiful flower girl! I have learned so much from you! Love learning about cut flowers along with gardening with plants! We even used your idea for a bucket with pumpkins spilling out, in our front corner flower bed! Where do you find your amaryllis bulbs at that price? I am new to amaryllis and paperwhites and haven't been able to decide where to go, because prices are so high. Thank you so much for sharing! Can't wait to see these in bloom in your nostalgic family dishes.
Hi Kristin! I got the amaryllis at Tractor and Supply this year. In the past I've also purchased them at Lowe's, Home Depot, and Christmas Tree Shoppes. I believe they may be at Walmart also. The paperwhites I purchased at a local seed store. Most nurserys should have paperwhites for an affordable price. I think I paid 79cents a bulb. I hope that is helpful!
The smile you gave your freshly planted paperwhites (which, unfortunately are not so popular in Germany) made my day! Your really love what you do. After experiencing snails, slugs and other kritters munching on my Amaryllis bulbs outside, I "oversummer" Amaryllis in my garage. I must admit, outside they get bigger over time, but it is not worth it to give them the space IMO. The Pot with the 3 Amaryllis inside looks gorgeous. Happy gardening!
Thank you. I have now a much better idea on how plant an amaryllis bulb. I live in San Antonio, TX and have grown them outdoors for nearly 20 years. Never covered them during freezing temperatures. Last February we had one whole week of below freezing temps, plus several inches of snow. I mention this, never having had any damage, because 2 weeks ago we had our first freeze, 29°, and many were damaged. I do not understand what happened. Why so much damage.? They survived the most severe week, several days of a terrific Arctic Blast, and one mild freeze devastated them.
For my Amaryllis at home I've notice redness on the bulbs skin/layer. But the flowers are growing beautiful no splotch on the stem, leaves or flowers. I noticed when the arrived they had some redness on the brown skin. But the weren't mushy or soft. Should I be concerned?
My amaryllis bloomed, and after the flowers wilted, I cut off the bloom stalk, and the leaves just flopped over and wouldn't stand up at all. What is wrong??
I put my paper whites in shallow water on rocks. The greens grew about a foot But never bloomed... Even the ones I planted in dirt outside in a pot didn't bloom. I don't know what I did wrong.... Blessings...
I do have 3nymph bulbs they are large bulbs flowers are beautiful I want to save them, they were not cheap.i really need your help. Got them from. Caladum and bulb co.
Please let me know why am Amarillo’s bulb is not growing it came in a box ,I potted it up after Christmas the leaves hagrown about 5inches and just stoped,,growing, the bulb feels solid it has grown roots I water every week just a little,it just growing .i have it by a window for light every other bulb I have put there has bloomed. Wow beautiful plants.
Thanks so much for the tutorials ❤
I’m forcing mine on the River rock stones, hopefully it’s will work.
Are we supposed to peel the bulb?😬😬 I did it thinking I was supposed to do 😞 will they get rotten?
Did you put the coco coir at the bottom of the pot?

I’m in zone 8 Deep South. Can the bulbs live in the ground with summer temperatures of 95 plus in the summer?
