The Sangre's often get overlooked. Great trail and area at the top. Wasn't sure where you were at first, then "that van"..... Bam.... I camped up there as well a few years ago. Did the lake hike as well & spelunking around the mine area. I've had similar flats like that. There are some sneaky rocks and culverts out there. I've always kept a full size spare and do a 5 tire rotation. An added expence for the 5th matching rim and tire, but sooooo worth it at times like that. Nice filming !

If you’ve been watching the channel you’d know not having a full size spare has been my biggest flaw since I started doing this. Hence my biggest fear coming true.

Agree. That's more of an bummer than a nightmare. It's also a result of not being fully prepared if running a different sized spare is considered a nightmare to Orrin. I mean really...when off roading a flat is just a matter of time. Nightmare would be forgetting the jack, catastrophic engine failure, or rats eating your wiring loom resulting a no start condition. Then again he probably got more clicks adding a dramatic title to this.

@@OrrinLewisI drove there once before! It took me 21 hours from where I started in Texas! It was brutal! I did some camping, but at the time I didn’t know as much about off roading and I didn’t own my frontier, so I missed a lot of opportunities I wasn’t aware of… won’t make that mistake next time! I’ve got big plans next time I get up there!
@@Otownoverland it’s more about not having a full size spare and being forced to use 2 wheel drive to not mess up the front diff. Could be a very significant issue if I was not going down hill the whole way or on an actually difficult trail like I normally am. Significantly handicaps the truck.
You should look into buying a package of the Glue Tread. It is made for side wall damage. You could have applied their patch and drove out on the same tire. Btw, that is a good looking Colorado. Being a Jeep owner - the rubicon is sweet too. Love the 2 doors.

Believe it or not that’s the first flat tire I have ever had to replace in my entire life (on my own vehicle) Just been lucky. I love the jeeps too. Especially the 2 door. My dad had one growing up. Always getting up in the morning to wet seats from the rain haha
I had a sidewall split on a recent trip, since I was going to be Offroad for several days I decided to run an expirement and just throw a ton of plugs into the sidewall. It worked pretty well, the plugs would worm themselves out over the course of a day, and I'd just push them back in. Obviously I changed the tire before I got back on the highway, but it seems like it would work to get you out of a jam.
We had a sidewall rip probably a good 30 miles out from nowhere in a campsite We now call the hills have eyes location lol creepy vibe to the place luckily we had my vehicle. It was my sons that had the flat and on the way back in my wheel bearing started going out. anyway, long story short that was the last time we ever went out without spare tires.

sidewall slashes suck. flex so much you can't really patch them. did that one time with no spare on a short day trip. ended up with about 9 plugs sticking out the side. it held well enough to get off the trail but i do not recommend. 😆

Im running those mickeys on my overland rig. Im using a 20" wheel tho and the 275/60/20 ends up being 33.4 inches. What size wheel and tire are you running? I want to change to a 17" wheel with maybe a 285/75/17 to give me more sidewall flex offroad. Btw, great visuals and a beautiful location with nice trails bro! Lovin ur rig too
@@wellthatdidntwork I’m running 17in rims with 35 12.5R 17. The tires are great. Love them and replaced the flat with the same tire. I like having the wider width. It just looks more aggressive and suits my style. And it helps keeps stuff away from the rim. If I moved to a 37in tire I might consider a 19/20in rim. But 17 is great for 33/35in tires
@@wellthatdidntwork if you’re mainly doing easy dirt roads though, a 20in rim is enough and reduces the cost to replace tires due to less rubber ya know?
@@OrrinLewiswow, they dont look like 35s on camera so its hard to gauge which is why i wanted to ask. I love the mickeys as well on road and off. I have an 01 suburban 4x4 on a 3 inch lift so im not gonna be doing anything too gnarly but there are mountain trails close to my location and plenty of mud. They have done great so far but im wanting to go further offroad and air down and the 20s are not the way to go when it comes to that. Before i put a 6 inch lift on my truck to fit 35s id rather go to another platform like a 4runner and mod that. There are alot more aftermarket options for a 4runner as well. Awesome rig and thanks for responding bro
@@wellthatdidntwork it is hard to modify vehicles that aren’t in the main stream for this kind of thing. Would def recommended switch vehicles if you plan on doing more then just basic mods. And yea of course man. Have fun out there!

@@OrrinLewis I ran into some dudes on SxS on Tin Cup Pass that had a big sidewall gash and gave them a bunch of tire plugs to shove in the tire and it worked for them. Anything to get back out.
@@NigelNaughton a guy in a side SxS also came by and offered me plugs but I wasn’t sure plugs would work for side wall and didn’t want to waste their stuff. Those side wall kits though look legit
Maybe for slow speed stuff the glue threads work but I asked the tire guys at Discount tire (when they fixed a hole on the thread for me once) and they said don’t use them on anything other than SxS because they are dangerous and no matter how they advertise them, they were not designed for regular heavy vehicles.Sidewall kits are not reliable.
@@is6566yeah they are only really designed to get you off the trail and back to where you need to go. They aren't designed to be then taken back on the freeway at high speeds. You fixed the flat, get back into town and then buy a new tire.
