    Thank you. I have the qty 980 plus and could get repeaters manually but when saved to channel I couldn't hit the repeater. Not a lot of info yet for the 980. Your tip on inserting the input frequency works. Sir you are a LEGEND. Cheerz &73s from NZ

    Thank you for solving a problem I have had with this little radio. In VFO I could input a repeater including its CTCSS and Offset, but when saved to an available memory channel, it did not work. I could not work out what the problem was until seeing your video..... to save the RX frequency as a separate action to the same channel number at the end solved this....DOH!! This is not one of the big radio producers and should not be treated as such, so those who offer bad reviews need to remember that this is a chinesejunkbox that needs a little more time to get it to work. It works great for me and for less than £70 it really is a good little radio.

    When adding channels to memory on QYT you must first delete then save. Took me a hour to figure out lol

    THANKS A BUNCH.... HEY EVERYBODY, this procedure ALSO works for models of the SOCOTRAN VHF/UHF 75watt radios. The Chinese instructions are atrocious (the author should be sent to one of their labor camps). Yeah and I would NEVER have figured out you had to put both the RX freq and TX offset in to memorize frequencies. Like one person said below.... you saved a TON of frustration, THANK YOU. KE0UXE

    Thank you! I was wondering why the repeaters werent working lol. But the very last step was vital into saving the memory. :) Now it works a treat. My radio is the second generation where they did fix the SCAN function, but I hardly use SCAN anyways lol. Thanks again.

    Very similar to the Baofeng with the counterintuitive saving the TX on top of the RX in memory. The bright side is once you get one programmed it's pretty well done.

    This was awesome, thank you very much. Would you know if there is a way to make it automatically power off after so long? I have it in my car and sometimes I forget to shut it off. THank YOu

    And this can be done right from the keypad. Nice. Hopefully you can save all 4 quad standby frequencies to the main screen. That's all I need.

    With this radio can you load up chirp and restrict its upper and lower frequency limit so it can only TX on HAM bands even if you type something higher in on the keypad?

    Please help... Trying very hard to program this unit and I think I need more direction. I thought I got one Fx input correctly but not a lot of folks around here are in Fx to test with. Going for repeater #2 and somehow nothing is behaving as it did the first time.
    Sets
    In the mode (V) to input Fx - then hit MENU on the mic to bring up menu options - correct? It does nothing. It seems I can only get to the Menu while in Memory mode...

      Just use CHIRP. It's much easier and will help you load all your local repeaters from repeaterbook.

  • @WalterFrancis
    @WalterFrancis 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Wait, why in the world does it have shift offset and shift +/- if you have to manually put in the input? That doesn't make any sense!

    • @WalterFrancis
      @WalterFrancis 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sure enough... Procedure is type in repeater output frequency, set tone (if repeater requires it), save to memory, type in repeater INPUT frequency, save again. No need to set shift or offset at all when programming a channel. If you're just going to use it in frequency mode, you do need shift/offset.

      That is the stupidest thing I've heard in amateur radio. Having to set offset, then manually enter the offset freq. Thanks, guys, for warning me. Just got my KT-8900D and you saved me a lot of frustration. I would have pulled out all my hair before figuring this out on my own. 73s!

    • @elliothuh669
      @elliothuh669 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why do you have to set the offset and direction if you have to put in the input. Maybe it just needs the input freq.

    Anyone program this with Chirp? Is it easy? Any step by step guides available? I'm waiting for a program cable.

    My comment applies to the the Quad receive version not the Quad transceiver version: The offset does not stick when programming a repeater to memory. It is necessary to go to vfo, type in the frequency, the ctcss, the direction, the offset, then transmit to hit the repeater. I use the memory channels just to monitor traffic, not to transceiver to repeaters. NO FUN!

    The squelch doesn’t appear to work on this radio! The only way that I can hear a reply on a QSO is to press the monitor button, and then, after the reply completes, a few seconds later, the white noise comes again. In other words, I cannot get rid of the white noise, only when a reply comes in on monitor. Can anybody help please?

    • @SilencedByYoutube
      @SilencedByYoutube 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you tried using the CHIRP software to lower the squelch?

  • @mikem8497
    @mikem8497 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I went back and tried emptying channel 1, then changing to vfo, keying in the frequency, menu, 13, key in ctcss, key 44 to channel, menu, dial to ch 1, menu menu, key in offset frequency, menu, 13, key in ctcss again, key 44 to channel, menu, dial to ch 1 again, menu menu. When I did the above and went to channel 1 I keyed and the offset worked but the ctcss wasn't correct. It defaulted to 71.0. So no matter how you program it either the offset or the ctcss, or both fail to stick in memory. The only way to transceive without issues is to transceive in vfo mode. NO FUN!
