    1. Contractors: home maintenance/repair services cost 2-3 times as much as anywhere else we lived.
    2. Taxes: Don't fall for the 'we're tax-friendly' crap'; if you make more than 200k, your income-tax is just as much as California. Plus, you have a very labyrinthine property-tax valuation scheme... little farther inland and own more than 5 acres, watch out. Sales-tax is high, so whatever SC didn't get on the income-end, they'll take in the spending end. Some goofy 10% tax/fee on food/accommodations in MB proper.
    3. Cost-of-living: You might get more bang-for-your-buck buying a home here, but you'll pay out the wazoo for everything else... materials, fixturing, tools, etc. Grocery-items, especially foods which are actually good for you, are higher than groceries on the West Coast. Amazon Prime baby!
    4. Grift: which leads to 3, 2, and 1. This is omnipresent everywhere we've lived... but here it's the rule rather than the exception.
    5. Don't bring your own bags to the grocery... they'll have no clue what to do with that.
    It's pros-and-cons, you find a way to navigate around it. It's always something...

      Used to own a small business there back in the 80's. Myrtle Beach Farms Corp. back then controlled everything in Myrtle Beach and probably still do. If you are not part of the "Good Old Boy's Club" and doing business there, good luck!

    • @TrilithiumBanditKelsey
      @TrilithiumBanditKelsey 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yah, I dunno... we don't really do business with anyone here except amusements, grocers, and some restaurants. We have a small place which is pretty easy to maintain... so we don't have to deal too much with beach-contractors. The area doesn't really seem to lend itself too much economic viability because everyone is trying to cannibalize one another in one way or another... which is their business I reckon.
      We'll probably stay here a few years, and maybe look at some places on the Virginia coast between the Chesapeake and the Atlantic; it seemed very nice there.

    I live in SW Va. I spend 4 weeks a year in Myrtle Beach. The ONLY reason to not live in MB is the summer traffic. The rest of this was nothing I don't have here. I do have a screened in porch for bugs. MB has ten times the variety of restaurants we have. I live in an area where allergies are especially bad. We have as much humidity and heat as MB. We do have college sports here. The traffic where I am is bad. But it is not as bad as MB or Atlanta. I see new homes being built everywhere in the MB area. So, traffic will get worse.

    • @livinginmyrtlebeachteam
      @livinginmyrtlebeachteam  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Linda. There's no question that with more construction comes more traffic. We've learned to stay close to home and enjoy our immediate surrondings. I bet you get some pretty fall foliage in SW Va. One thing we dont see much of.

    We moved here in 2018 & live it. Yes it's expensive but everything is right now. Traffic in the busy seasons are tough to get around but as long as you don't go to those places you'll be okay. The food is meh at best. My biggest compliant I have is there's no land for sale. I can't get acres just lots. Other than that have no issues with mb

    • @livinginmyrtlebeachteam
      @livinginmyrtlebeachteam  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @teeblazentony Thanks for your input as a resident. No question noting is cheap anymore! Navigating traffic especially during the summer is an Art to say the least😁 There are plenty of chain/"tourist trap" restaurants though there are also enough local restaurants that deserve credit. Land, yeah if you don't mind being an hour 1/2 from the beach and in the middle of nowhere!

  • @wanted-33
    @wanted-33 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You are so right about the traffic. We live close enough to Myrtle Beach that we have been visiting since we were teenagers (1970's). When we were young we loved the summer, and the crowds, and didn't care about the traffic. As we've grown more mature we started visiting in the winter (off season), because the crowds were smaller and the traffic was minimal. That was around 2008. Now with the non-stop growth, even in the off season, we stay away from the 17 Bypass, and Hwy 31 in the mornings and evenings. And 501 around Carolina Forrest up to the University.............we just stay away from there at any time. :)

    Some friends of mine are having a house built in MB right now. Before the house was even painted on the inside the realtor called them and said they had someone offering to buy the house for cash for $10,000 more then what they had paid for it. So they sold it and are having another one built and using the $10,000 for up grades. I live in VA on the bay about an 1-1/2 hours from down town Richmond. We have the same high heat, humidity, bugs, and pollen from hell issues here. I still far more living here instead of NH where I come from and having to deal with the snow and ice. I agree, the only thing I miss about NH is the food.

    I've done contract work in MB for years, building out IT Infrastructure for hotels, condos, ect. I get to spend a month a year there, and I really love the area. Would I move there, I believe I would go more inland, get some land. 45min to the beach would be fine, doing the contract works lets me stay on the beach in a hotel for free for a month, lol can't beat that deal.
