I placed an order after you review this bike (I mean first impression). This bike is not so photogenic, it looks ugly in picture and video but it's a good looking bike in a flesh. You are right when you say if you're looking for an sporty bike, this is not the one, but for normal long distance cruising, this is perfect (my kind of riding). Can't wait to get mine... Thanks Mr Fish, always love your vids.
Set to go head to head with the Versys 1000’s. Will probably do very well with all the loaded tech and DCT. But maybe it would do even better if Honda gave us a shaft drive as well (just like they used to). Not much better looking than a Dullville, but then again most adventure tourers are about as sexy as Ford Mondeo’s. Still, for munching up those miles, I’d certainly have one !
From an owner of an R1200RT and a Ford Mondeo haha! I love the FM and its tight steering and suspension and handling and fuel economy,- even in the hills of NZ I get 8.1L/100kms on an 800km journey and still had 80kms dist to go! She is reliable, Euro designed and built in Belgium, been very reliable over 260,000kms! But the Beemer - should be relative to this video, also has great fuel economy at 4.8L/100kms or about 60mpg! And very similar looks to the NT1100.
'Motorcyclist clamour for years for a manufacturer to release a good old-fashioned tourer with no fancy unnecessary tech at a great price - Honda rises to the challenge and everyone is indifferent'
The Tracer 9 GT is a good competitor for the NT1100! The sports touring sector has had somewhat of a resurgence in the last 12mths. Check out the new GSX1000 GT too!
I made a test ride with the NT and it's not even close to sporty. Yes, it's fast (as long you stay close to legal limits) but the touring aspects is very, very big with this bike. Except if you want a custom luggage solution (because the side loaders are standard there is no aftermarket) or two person driving (because weight limit).
Test rode this exact bike yesterday at your dealership, Dobles in Coulsdon. Surprised me. Better than I thought. It will split opinion. But definitely serves a purpose.
Yeah I like the idea of a big Honda parallel twin but I don't need spoked wheels and tyre tubes or a 21" front wheel, it's not really even legal to ride off road in Scotland. Is this any better than a V-Strom 1050 though?
Thank you Mr Fish. I've been anxiously waiting for a review of the NT. Thinking my NC750 will be traded in soon. If Honda Canada ever makes a release date on the NT1100????
Quite like this, very Honda. Although for me I would want it to be shaft drive and some less Germanic colours, don't really like the exposed rear breakfluid resevoir, looks a bit odd. Surprised you don't like the tyres, I have used the Roadtec 01s for years and I have found them to be fantastic in all weathers.
Another excellent video Mr. Fishman. Regarding the NT suspension, at the end of the video you mentioned you prefer the suspension of the Africa twin better. How much inferior is the 6” NT suspension on rough paved roads compared to the 9” Africa Twin?
It's a bit like when BMW took the GS LC engine & put it in the RS. NT looks very nice & a mile muncher too like my RS 1200. Very similar tools. Great vlog as always ✊🐟
Thanks for the ride and review. I have a 2020 ATAS ES and have been wondering if swapping for the NT1100 would be right for me. You see I discovered after buying my ATAS that I don't really do much off road riding. So why have a bike with all that offroad technology? Why not have an Africa twin that has been engineered for the road, where I spend almost all my riding? The only drawback is that if I end up in a construction zone that is 20 miles of rough muddy gravel, I'd miss my ATAS and not sure how well the NT1100 would do on it. I used to have a BMW C650GT scooter and loved it, so maybe not such a bad thing.
The NT is very comfortable for a road bike. I made a test ride on very old roads with a lot of potholes and I barely noticed them. It's way more on the touring side than sport side.
Basically when you connect the phone instead of pressing pair , hold the back button on the handle bars until if goes off , the phone will connect to the bike without the need for a Bluetooth headset
Tried a DCT one last week and it is the comfiest bike I have ever ridden! I am 5'8 and 29 inch leg. Didn't feel as heavy as I was expecting it to be. My bike is a an R1200R lc and is about the same weight and I felt this Honda was less bulky than the wide at the bottom Beemer. Screen was the best I've ever tried in 50 years of riding! Put it at its highest and it is amazing. Engine is a bit chuggy low down but not a problem. Not as quick or powerful as my R12 though but the tech figures explain that. Defo a contender!!
I'm very keen on this - but no news on when/if they come to the States. Colour: I'm not a big fan of silvers (other than this warm silver the '82 GS1100E had that defied description; it was a nice colour) and it does not come across all that nicely in the video. Maybe in person I'd like it. Now, paint it sage/Tenni green like the '12 Moto Guzzi Griso and I think they'd have something! I'd love to see it in one of Honda's red white and blue schemes they do so well with. Is the seat adjustable in height?
Good vid Fish ! The screen is total pants - I gave up trying to adjust it at the show. Thought it was going to break off. You mention the Xadv, looking fwd to seeing a review of the Honda 350xadv scoot
Tracer 9 GT or Multistrada V2 although would need the tour pack with main stand an panniers to equal the Honda's spec. Might buy one when I retire, that's a compliment by the way.
Funny you thought the tyres weren’t the grippiest of grippy grip tyres but they turned out to be the premier aspirational tyre for sport tourers! Enjoyed the review, will probably move to one of these after my R1250GSA.
Yamaha Tracer 9GT Kawasaki verses or the Suzuki gsx-s1000GT I think may be great alternatives. I am definitely not sold on the DCT gearbox, why just not get a bike with a quick shifter?
Looking at this, the nc750x or tiger 900 when i move up from the versys 650, the nc750x just has that practical side storage, fuel efficiency just ideal for me as i don't drive i commute every day and tour for my holidays
Good review again , I have the Rebel 1100 and a new 2022 super cub coming from Dobles in Coulson but I am too short for the NT1100 so my choice of the Rebel is a keeper, it is a shame the EMU from the Africa Twin is not fitted so you need to watch those changes on bends with the DCT, I have now fitted the batwing screen to the Rebel and apart from the range it is a tourer for me. The 125 Super Cub is a runabout and a fun bike as I intend to do the NC500 this year with it just for fun. I saw your review on the Rebel which swung the choice for me last year and dropped lucky with Dobles as they had the right bike as a cancelled order so it only took 8 days to have it sitting at my door. Keep up the good work with your reviews I understand the new Honda thinking with a bike built to a price but retaining the quality by using established engines and concepts, electric screens costs a lot more shaft drives raise the price too much, and keeping the panniers slim allows the filtering.
Nice bike and review; thinking of getting one, but wish it had the X-ADV rear brake on the handlebars. I've seen a video of an adaption using X-ADV parts - but don't know of anyone doing this in the UK. That's the only thing putting me off at the moment. Rear brake pedal I find difficult to feather for low speed with DCT.
Mr F, great review. I rode this very bike on Friday and would concur with your views. To me it’s a cooking model and a bike I couldn’t get excited about. As a commuter it would be ideal with DCT and very good road manners. I don’t commute these days. I’m looking at an Africa Twin to replace my GSA mostly for the DCT and ability for me to actually reach the ground with more than tiptoes. I’m 5’8” so no giant. Much as I like the GSA I’m less impressed by the build quality and service not least on warranty issues. After more than 17 years on BMWs time for a change. Oh, as for the seats, BMW offered the Komfort seat option for the original K100 range. I had one in 1986 and can confirm that the original seat was utterly appalling as in numbness setting in after barely 45 minutes. A marketing ploy they and others have exploited well.
I like it and I would say the 1100 twin is all you need for touring If its your style of bike. Only thing missing for me is the shaft drive but that may be a budget thing. Competition has to be the Tracer GT and GSXS1000 GT so there you have a great choice of 3 bikes with 3 different engine configurations..Good review as always Mr Fish. 👍🏴
Good review, appears to be a nice bike but I think they have missed a trick with the colours very boring compared to the Africa Twin colours, may give one a test ride but wouldn’t swap my AT 1100 for it either.
Nice one fish, you can see the resemblance with the xadv and I’m with you on that I really like the look of that as well, be interested to hear your thoughts in comparing the two of these as I reckon both would make good touring bikes, albeit the XADV is obviously the smaller of the two
You persuaded me to buy the NC750x DCT last year after your test now this!! My boy has one in at his dealership so I feel duty bound to try it. I had my Crosstourer DCT highlander for 6 years before the NC and did 4 European tours on it plus UK circumnavigation before I got too old for it's weight and ungainliness. Do I go back up a tad in weight? Would I benefit? Oh hell, dilemma.....
Hi MR.F, could you explain/vid the trick you mentioned where you do not have to connect to a head-set with BT, to be able to use maps etc on your Smart Phone. Cheers, Gordon
Nice bike and review. I enjoy seeing these new techy bikes but I must admit I’m one for owning a modern machine but without the bells and whistles, without having to go back to to the carb era. They can do it for foreign markets shame they don’t do it here. Feeling happy that I can still use TH-cam and they haven’t upgraded it to have mood modes or automatic scrolling 😉
Very impressive bike Fish. I'd leave the Top Box on with a tank bag. Panniers get in the way when filtering through traffic. Bike would be close to perfect if it had shaft drive but at least it has a centre stand. Not a fan of DCT as it takes away too much control from the rider for my liking - premature change ups. Rival? RS /RT BMW'S for a lot more money which I'd go for if I had the money - shaft drive. I'm 5'8 so it might suit me more than an Africa Twin.
That curb weight is for the manual, the DCT is an extra 10kg. It’s quite porky for 100HP. But I think you are right, they will sell loads, especially to NC750 owners.
@@daegueric by comparison the new Tiger 1200 starts at 240kg wet weight with ~147HP, shaft drive and full electronic suspension. It might be a much dearer bike but the difference is significant. Same goes for it’s two Japanese rivals, the new Suzuki and the Z1000SX. This NT is quite heavy for its weight compared to its rivals.
I ride my NC700 in S2. D and S1 shift way too quick, and I'm downshifting for every curve or turn. I may have to check out a used NT in a couple years stateside
The DCT also allows you to manually change gears. Gear changes are hugely better than a manual box with hand clutch. I've had 2 Hondas with DCT and I see no value in an archaic old manual gearbox. My DCT motorcycles (VFR 1200 DCT and XADV) my Audi and Mercedes AMG all with auto gearboxes. I don't understand why pulling in a clutch by hand and pushing your foot up and down makes any sense. But horses for courses. Now if my BMW F900XR had a DCT I'd be really happy. Hmmmm
Deffo a tourer bike and it does look well soppose its just road version wear as the africa is a bike to go off the beaten track and do like the idea of the top box as they have thought of the passenger with the back rest and will assume the back tyres will last bit better than a africas. Personally id probably struggle with height of a twin reminds me of a triumph explorer type bike
I think this bike's closest rivals are the R1250RS, Versys 1000, V-Strom 1050 and Tracer 9 GT. If you like sitting upright, ride on the motorway lots, want to be comfortable and have no delusions of being some rugged off road hero then it's a decent option, especially if you want a DCT! I think I'd possibly rather have the BMW RS or V-Strom though, you either get a more powerful bike with shaft drive for a bit more with the RS or a cheaper bike that's lighter and a bit more powerful with the V-Strom.
I can't understand the need to compare the NT1100 to the Africa Twin they are completely different bikes for different purposes. Both happen to share a brilliant engine and both have the real game changer DCT option. Honda are onto a clear winner and it is also very good value for money.
Great review Mr Fish, I have booked a test ride on one of these ( when they get one in ) along with the Versys 1000 ( with the lower seat ),As I am getting close to 70 and have a 29" inside leg there are not too many that i can sit on with my feet close to the ground, Have tried the Tracer and the Suzuki 1000GT ( my size ) ,Honda 1200 crosstourer and AT ,KTM,Ducati are all too tall, My Blackbird is starting give me wrist ache ( even with Bar risers) .
The most disappointing feature of the NT1100 is it’s unavailability in North America. Then again, is it really available where it’s officially available if demand is greater than its actual availability?
It’s true though isn’t it, most bikes have an un-comfort seat why? It’s a bit of a boring old Hector but being a Honda, it’s probably very efficient and very reliable 🥱. Nice review, I even subscribed and teased the like button.
This bike is for people that have in the garage a very old bike and want to start rideing again. For me they made it to killer all the 900cc bikes Tracer/Tiger/Multistrada and so on
I would say that the Tiger 900 GT PRO would be a natural competitor (to the manual NT), it's not quite as powerful as the NT but is lighter. Cheers, Gordon
Parts bin special… Honda using the same 1100cc motor of the Africa Twin & Rebel. As you said, X-ADV front end. It’s a little bit ‘Meh’ IMHO 🤷🏻♂️ It’s in the VStrom 1050 pigeon hole isn’t it? 🤔
I have the Versys S. I picked it because of the weight carrying ability(around 224kg). Most in this sector are useless if you/passenger are big boned shall we say. Whats the NTs ?
Long time since iv'e been to Box Hill, use to ride around on a mountain bike :-) Nice 1st impressions Mr Fish :-) Laughed my head off, when you said, its like a big scooter, lol.
I upgraded an NC750 DCT to this year's Forza 750. A big upgrade to a very comfortable mid-size tourer, and you can move your feet. I've averaged 17 miles per litre so far usually riding on standard which gives a range of over £220 miles for 13.1 litres instead of 20+
After nearly 8 years on 2 Crosstourers , one manual and one DCT, i really hoped Honda would update it or bring out a replacement. I thought the NT maybe it. Its got the tech, im sure itll be reliable and its well priced but no shaft drive and 25% down on power on the Crosstourer it just doesnt fit the bill. And im sorry Honda but i really do think youve built one of the dullest looking bikes on the market. Shame, i really miss DCT.
I just can't stop thinking that Honda should have produced a touring version of the CB1000R, not the Africa Twin. However, so pleased the bike has a centre stand, as so many bikes these days don't even have the capability to fit one as an optional extra or after market.
Good panniers with the internal bags. The top case doesn't enhance the looks but they tend not to. Again, I like the internal bag. I like the TFT but it sounds fiddly. Not my type of bike, to be honest. I prefer your Africa Twin. Does the NT feel heavier than that because it is, isn't it?
I placed an order after you review this bike (I mean first impression). This bike is not so photogenic, it looks ugly in picture and video but it's a good looking bike in a flesh. It’s a replacement for the VFR1200x which no one seems to remember! Honda are clever at using current spare part bins and engines to make a new bike.
The VFR1200x was/is a nice bike. :) Not really popular, at least in my country... :) Anyways, drop by.
Never seen a vfr1200x on the road overhere but looking to the specs the vfr was way quicker/ more powerful than this one.

Same goes for it’s two Japanese rivals, the new Suzuki and the Z1000SX. This NT is quite heavy for its weight compared to its rivals.

Interesting bike option. Should I chop in an R1200GS TE 2016?
No, get the GS1250 it will be in another league.
@@marksimpson5218 there are alot of problems with the gs1250...sold mine after 6 months
I ride my NC700 in S2. D and S1 shift way too quick, and I'm downshifting for every curve or turn. I may have to check out a used NT in a couple years stateside
Tried the dct on africa twin can't get along with it,so I'll stick with deciding when I change gear 👍
Same! I thought it was only me? Who doesn’t like dct on bikes
Hmmmm
It takes time and adjustment
@@sunrisejak2709 yes I don’t like auto cars either
Yeah dcts are fab when your clutch packs up on you bike or car easy fix when your dct box goes you better get a bank loan £4 grand in a car😭
It's crying out for some colour on it, I could hear it whimpering at it's John Major appearance up here at the other end of the country.
have they got the new ADV350 yet would love you to do test on that really fancy one of those
I think this bike's closest rivals are the R1250RS, Versys 1000, V-Strom 1050 and Tracer 9 GT.
Agree, but RS is a good bit more money with panniers etc.
I’m liking this motorcycle a lot and considering trading in my NC750X but realized it’s not for sale yet in the U.S.
Think it should have been a shaftie. !!!
That’s what she said
Not my kind of bike but I do enjoy your vids mr Fish. Hope you're well.
I can't understand the need to compare the NT1100 to the Africa Twin they are completely different bikes for different purposes. Both happen to share a brilliant engine and both have the real game changer DCT option. Honda are onto a clear winner and it is also very good value for money.
Great vid really like it
Great review Mr Fish, I have booked a test ride on one of these ( when they get one in ) along with the Versys 1000 ( with the lower seat ),As I am getting close to 70 and have a 29" inside leg there are not too many that i can sit on with my feet close to the ground, Have tried the Tracer and the Suzuki 1000GT ( my size ) ,Honda 1200 crosstourer and AT ,KTM,Ducati are all too tall, My Blackbird is starting give me wrist ache ( even with Bar risers) .
Whatever you move on too you'll miss your Blackbird .I miss mine and yes Im approaching 70 too 😞
The most disappointing feature of the NT1100 is it’s unavailability in North America. Then again, is it really available where it’s officially available if demand is greater than its actual availability?
I really miss having a sport tourer in the stable.
It’s true though isn’t it, most bikes have an un-comfort seat why? It’s a bit of a boring old Hector but being a Honda, it’s probably very efficient and very reliable 🥱. Nice review, I even subscribed and teased the like button.
Thanks for the sub
This bike is for people that have in the garage a very old bike and want to start rideing again. For me they made it to killer all the 900cc bikes Tracer/Tiger/Multistrada and so on
What? I totally disagree, this bike is much different then the bikes you mentioned, this bike is DCT model! The others are not for starters.
So how comfortable is seat on African twin 🤔😎🏍💨💨💨💨💨💨👍🏻🇨🇦
Very on mine
Honda makes a killer parallel twin IMO
Very refined looking bike.
Good first look video Mr Fish. I think I prefer the Suzuki GSX-s GT
Carrying capacity, max load in kgs please?
It is not published anywhere.
Noce bike. What is the city you het in at 05:00
Thank-you Mr Fish.
Its a pure back to basics tourer, not the pretentious stuff on the road nowadays.
It has a Lovely sound 😀
Looks wise its a major shame that there aren't any interesting color options.
Vstrom I would say is an adv bike
@@Mrfish2015 Not really; especially the non-XT model
For goodness sake, I hope you chose an Ice free route Mr Fish……….😱😱
I have the Versys S. I picked it because of the weight carrying ability(around 224kg). Most in this sector are useless if you/passenger are big boned shall we say. Whats the NTs ?
204 kg in manual and 194 kg with DCT. Are You satisfied With Versys 1000 ? I consider between NT 1000 and Versys 1000
Long time since iv'e been to Box Hill, use to ride around on a mountain bike :-) Nice 1st impressions Mr Fish :-) Laughed my head off, when you said, its like a big scooter, lol.
I think it's most similar to the Suzi DL1050, or maybe the 850 Tiger.
Hi I'm a new subscriber, what's your Bluetooth hack without connecting your phone via a lead as mentioned in this video.
Regards No
I upgraded an NC750 DCT to this year's Forza 750. A big upgrade to a very comfortable mid-size tourer, and you can move your feet. I've averaged 17 miles per litre so far usually riding on standard which gives a range of over £220 miles for 13.1 litres instead of 20+
What’s the Bluetooth cheat please fish
The white one makes me think they're hoping it could be used by the old bill. A cheaper alternative to the BMWs they use.
I bought a 2022 1250 R/T...I like the electric windshield adjustment...
And how much did it cost £££££££££££!
@@MrBottomrung After the bullshit it came out to $30,000...way too much!
V-Strom or Versys are about the only ones really
Does it have helmet holders?
I feel it's in a similar category as the Versys 1000. But I think I'd take the Kawasaki.
The Versys 1000 is an inline four.
@@1990-t1j That doesn't matter, they are both tourers around the same price and size.

The NT 1100 is not available in the US? Thats BS! This may have changed there are a lot of older films on youtube about it.
If I remember correctly the dullville also came in a beige colour 😱😱
Good panniers with the internal bags. The top case doesn't enhance the looks but they tend not to. Again, I like the internal bag. I like the TFT but it sounds fiddly. Not my type of bike, to be honest. I prefer your Africa Twin. Does the NT feel heavier than that because it is, isn't it?
The NT weighs the same as an AT Adventure Sport, 238kg or 248kg with DCT. I guess it’s more manageable as it’s lower though.
Ducati Multistrada 950?
Shaft drive and Electric screen sorted
A very nice looking bike.
Look at front mudguard..too short.
Why do they do that
If it was shaft drive I might be interested.
Would be too expensive
@@Mrfish2015 yea maybe but it’s not really sure what it is (IMO). The Pan European sold by the truck load……
Yamaha Tracer GT must be what Honda are trying to compete against. Wish they give it more colour.
