How-To: 05-06 GMC / Chevy Factory Electric Fan Wiring Harness Removal

  • *These fans were never meant to run on a single HIGH Speed. Aftermarket harnesses that use that as an option are not fully taking advantage of the factory fans and can actually damage the wiring and possibly melt/cause a fire. These fans were designed to go to high speed from low speed, never from off to high speed. Because of this, the factory harness can burn up and the relay box can melt from extended use of a single high. Also use low speeds and then high speeds*
    The two wires going to the PCM are: Green wire to Pin 42 of the Blue connector. Blue wire to Pin 33 of the Red connector.
    This is a quick video to show how to pull a factory / stock efan harness from a donor 05-06 GMC / Chevy truck from a junkyard. We also show which wires you need to pull, which wires you need to hook up, and which wires you don't need. Also shows how to strip the harness down to get rid of extra wires not used and how to test the efans before you buy them. Enjoy!

      It is definitely a nice upgrade. And if you can find all the junkyard parts for cheap, well worth it. If you get a set of the fans, and they somehow go bad, you can always upgrade to the 7 blade / 9 blade from the gmt 900s. The blades and the motors bolt right up to the fan shroud. the gmt 900 shrouds are a little different. TYC 622210 is the part number for the 7/9 combo. Pull a little more air for the same power draw.

    Hi,I just bought a 2006 Yukon factory fan wiring harness for my 2003 Silverado to convert over to electric fans from someone on marketplace!!These’s a black and blue wire going to one of the fans and the black one has been cut!! I think that each end of the black wire go a ground on the frame but I’d like to verify with you on that!! Thanks in advance!!

    • @iamlemarksman
      @iamlemarksman ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea. The black wire needs to be connected together and also spliced to a ground. In the video, you can see where the black wire extends to the passenger side frame horn. More than likely , they cut the wires under the fans and excluded that part. Splice the black together and add a same gauge wire connecting them to ground and you’ll be good.

    • @iamlemarksman
      @iamlemarksman ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the recirculating command for the hvac. You simply remove that wire and cap it and tick it in the harness. It isn’t used anymore. But, you need to make sure you tune it correctly .

  • @MrKaaz
    @MrKaaz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    At the beginning of this video you said anything 03 and above is plug and play. Are you referring to the wiring harness or the PCM programming, or both. Example: 2004 Tahoe - plug and play? Does or does not need a PCM tune?
    Thx

    • @iamlemarksman
      @iamlemarksman ปีที่แล้ว

      Either way, your computer needs to be tuned. The 03-06 are easier because there aren’t any pins in the spots where you are going to add the efan trigger wires. The 99-02 is a little more complicated in regards to wiring and tuning. 03-06 would just need the pins added to those two spots and a tune, nothing else.

    • @farmerjohnsonoffroad
      @farmerjohnsonoffroad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We’re you able to unpin them from the junkyard pcm? If not, you can use any 18/20 gauge multi-stranded automotive wire. As for the pins, you can buy them new from the jungle website: www.amazon.com/Micro-Pack-100-Terminal-Gauge-Female/dp/B0040CVUX0/ref=asc_df_B0040CVUX0/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312142335725&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14591840470218904276&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9027420&hvtargid=pla-606001651638&psc=1

      Running then constantly could be a bad thing. It causes more wear and tear on the fan motors and would be unnecessary in cooler climates. It is possible, but I would be unsure of how long your fan motors would work.

    • @farmerjohnsonoffroad
      @farmerjohnsonoffroad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Running the fans continuously could lead to premature wear and possible failure of the fan motors. Could also bring poor performance as well. The problems with the efans is that the 99-02 need a little more work to get the pcm to control them with the AC. 03-06 are easier to do.

      You do if you want the pcm to control the fans. If you don't then you lose the ability to cycle the fans with AC on and turn them off at certain speeds etc. You can get real simple and wire them to a temp switch to come on at a certain temp but be careful running your ac because you'll run super high pressures and it might actually blow out the safety vent on the compressor. I used ls droid and a obdx Bluetooth adapter to get my .bin file from my ecu and tunerpro to set up the fans the way I wanted them.

      Hmm. Not sure. They operate in series for low speed, and parallel for high speed. I have never seen a bad harness except for one. The one that was bad had a burned up relay box. Usually it’s the relays and fuses that are bad. Just cut the harness apart and make sure the wires are good.

      @@bdtews hmmmm. What harness are you using? The black wire they we cut under the fans, that goes to the passenger side front frame horn, those get spliced together and grounded out. Basically it’s the same as the factory, but we move it to a more accessible position, usually the ground location on the engine block. No other wires need to be cut or spliced, unless they were done so before you got the harness. Splice the blacks together and ground them, and then the green and blue wires control the relays.

    • @iamlemarksman
      @iamlemarksman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We messed with this a bit. Both of our trucks, 2000/6.0 and 2001/8.1, have the fans controlled with temps and with the a/c. My 2000 6.0 uses a pressure sensor the the 03+ uses. It reads the pressure in the a/c system to command the fans on and off. The 2001 8.1 however didn’t want to work that way. Instead, we have those set to come on whenever the a/c compressor is engaged. We believe it was a software issue and couldn’t find a way to make them come on with the pressures.

      I am not sure on what called for the 34 in radiators vs the smaller 27 in radiators. Best course of action would be to measure your current radiator core, just the aluminum part, and see what you have. As far as programming, you will still need to add the pins into the computers connectors. However, for the 03-04, the programming should already be there to control the fans.
