  • Inspired by a white ’63 Stratocaster with a contrasting tortoiseshell pickguard, the Yuriy Shishkov Builder Select 1963 Stratocaster is instilled with the master builder's own personality and imagination yet still maintains elemental Fender tone, style and feel.
    This inspired example of Shishkov’s luthiery reflects an instrument that has been played with loving respect versus careless abandon. The Aged Arctic White Journeyman Relic finish shows the marks of countless gigs over the years. The quartersawn ’60s “C”-shaped maple neck reflects a master’s touch-a smooth, silky finish on the front and lack of finish on the back, where the player’s hands would caress the neck.
    The Custom Shop Hand-Wound ’60s Strat® Single-Coil pickups include a reverse-wound, reverse polarity middle pickup for hum-free playing while accurately recreating classic Fender tone and dynamic response.

    I worked with Yuriy in the warehouse at Washburn guitars back in the early 90's. He was a genuinely good person and an incredibly talented craftsman. I so happy for him that his talents are being rewarded.

    All a matter of opinion - but in my humble opinion it's a great way to buy a master built guitar and not have to worry about it being slightly dinged when you take it out. They feel and sound great and if you like it and can afford one - why not.

    I like a little bit of relicing on guitars but not like the over the top dragged behind an angry bull relic, like their closet classic or Journeyman series ones.

    Why do guitars that have been accidentally damaged to some extent in the store sell at a discount, when those deliberately damaged in the factory sell at a premium?

    • @spartan8390
      @spartan8390 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Art vs accident. Much like some people view abstract art as a mess a child could do, it's in the details.

    • @stephenfeldman8104
      @stephenfeldman8104 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's no rational sense to it. The "art vs. accident" explanation also strains the mind. Art based on accidents is art?

    I have one of Yuriy's Strats Surf green and when I bought it I couldn't play it properly also I didn't like the colour also the salesman told me he didn't want to sell it (he was good) It's now part of my body. I dont play it much as I'm getting old but, only guitarists will understand the feeling of strapping on a beautiful guitar playing loud

    Can't call it a '63 with a 9.5'' radius! CS guitars should have a historically accurate 7.25'' radius.

    I personally don't like stuff with purposeful wear and tear markings when it is brand new from the custom shop. Get your own guitar and make it a relic in time

      +ArdipithecusR. Because you are not a phony hipster. I have an old strat with checking, it is 100% natural. Even though he calls this light relic, it is still fake as shit. Only a poser would want one, buy one or play one.

    • @weimondo
      @weimondo 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +ArdipithecusR. I agree. Though light relicing is ok imo, like the guitar in this video.

      Paul Fabrique Jesus Christ man, relax! It's just a harmless comment, no need to lose your composure. To each their own is what I say. Cheers.

    • @stratorarious

      +ArdipithecusR. I get why someone who needs to portray an image or someone who prefers a well played feel would want a reliced guitar. I read somewhere that Keith Richards apparently started the relicing craze after feeling that the guitars ordered for a tour were too new looking. On the other hand I also think that there are some goofy people who really just want others to be impressed.
      Personally I prefer to have mine age naturally and I try to keep everything from looking it's age or getting any dings/chips. If I had a choice and was rich and could purchase a real vintage instrument I would go for the most pristine I could find. Long story short I agree with you...

    • @ardipithecus11
      @ardipithecus11 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      stratorarious I do get some features like unfinished necks, slightly worn fretboards and such the such. Things that actually affect the playability of the instrument are completely understandable. Knicks, dents and rust? Not so much. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I don't know each individuals motivations behind purchasing an instrument so, to each their own.

      @@lEpIvIaKl I thought you were adressing me. I share your opinion, that yuriy is able to outstand many others! My wife is russian and I know for sure, that russians have a understanding of Art and culture. By the way, as apart from the native Americans, any other American has his roots in different countries, who says, that people with russian roots are the lesser Americans?
