As someone who has worked in an art gallery I can say that a handcrafted metal sculpture without any fancy jewels, or gold made by a relatively unknown individual (as opposed to Fender Instruments) can run ya $5,000. So when you add expensive jewels, gold, hand selected wood, beautiful symmetry and expert musical craftsmanship by a famous company the numbers start to multiply very fast. It makes sense to me just from the amount of labor, time and care involved. There is no question that if I were rich it would be worth it. It is breathtaking to look at in person I'm sure.

I do love me a hardtail Strat, & whatever it's really worth, this over the top overkilled, Fender custom shop bedazzled one, sure looks like it could be the most expensive hardtail Strat of all time!...This fancy guitar has a odd look, as the hard working hardtail Strat is a multi faced gem in its own right that deserves to be held up and admired in the light from all angles, and treasured, if not totally blinged out. While this ones not my particular cup of tea, It's awesome to know that its a paramount thing out there existing at the peak, for those of us worshipping all things hardtail Stratocaster...8)

Definitely not my style. Faberge inspired work is striking to be sure, but this is unplayable. Sublime wood though. Also not my speed. All the best sounding strats are beat to shit and worn in. The custom shop stuff is largely pointless fluff anyway. The best new factory strats are made by G&L. The best old strats are kinda like cars in an inverse way: doesn't matter how old they are, it's the mileage that makes them worth it. Get me one that's been passed around like tart, broken, stripped, slapped EMG pickups in it, discarded in the trunk of a car in south Texas, driven to Toronto over gravel roads, thrashed till the mosh pit was a graveyard, stolen, ripped out the EMGs for Sativa money, hung by the trem spings till they broke, handed to a toddler who chewed on the headstock, and finally rescued by a broke bluesman in New Orleans who restored it to life with bits and bobs laying around the farm and I'll take that one.
Strats soak up the life around them for some reason, and they love attention. Pour enough life into one in a year, and they sing like nothing else.
By contrast, Les Pauls are better out of the gate and not half so forgiving to abuse. This last point is by design. A broken headstock or twisted neck is not so easily repaired on a Gibson. They love to be loved, and abuse is rewarded with repairs only skilled artisans (a rapidly dying cadre of skills I might add) can manage. Leave a Les Paul in the trunk of a parked car in the Everglades, and the repair will be at the factory or some woodwright demanding payment in cash, favors, and the wedding ring of a dead bride left at the altar.
THIS garish thing... this will take two centuries to sing.

I went to the Hermitage a couple of weeks ago while touring around Europe and there IS a Peacock Watch in the Hermitage. It was built for Empress Catherine The Great. Maybe that is why the design looks like a peacock. Anyway, I don't think that guitar is playable with all those diamonds, rubis and emeralds. Imagine you're playing and some of those precious stones simply fall and disappear!
