I bought my 1962 slab board, LPB Strat in 1974 for $175.00. It changed the trajectory of my life. I still have the guitar and music shop receipt. Your '63 Strat sounded amazing!😊👍

I too have a 63 that I consider a dear old friend. I've enjoyed It for 20 yrs now and has become a part of me. I am the father of identical twins and am amazed to see a twin to your new friend. Cheers and enjoy, be careful not to let that one go.... All the way from Detroit, Rock City....
Wow. Very good riffing. I love how you don't rush your riffs, Mimi. You get the soul of the sound in each note. Not saying anything bad about Chris. You are both amazing! NICE guitar!!!
Ok nice guitar ...In 1963 Fender hired a man named Alfredo He was the painter of guitars from 63 till forward and in the late 80s when Michael Stevens was given the task of opening the Fender custom shop Fredo was there still.. So he and Michael called Dupont and asked if they might help match the original custom colors.. Dupont laughed saying yes we have the original books come on down.. So Fredo and Michael my heros went on down to Dupont and got all the original codes and chips to match too and stocked the shelves once again to do custom colors as they did in late 50s early 60s. Its possible Fredo as Michael called him shot this 63 burst. Its a 3 tone burst but if you look they did somewhat of a translucent blonde below the yellow giving the almost white or blonde look coming up through black on edges and dark brown.. So my guess is its like the sealer coat and fullerplast was shot over that sealer coat to lock and seal that look in to avoid wasting yellow they shot the center yellow out to the edges... So Yellow over sealer then cherry round the edges and they would shoot the edges black and fade in some brown once dry you can lightly scuff that edge and it does the hazed tobacco edge. Note the neck has no skunk stripe down back nor the truss rod hole through headstock no koa plug.. That is a slab board @ 1:56 look behind the nut at the Brazilian rosewood... what do you see ? its a flat piece of rosewood glued atop maple blank. FLAT the face would have been radiused Clay dots .. If they are claiming thats a B neck the real way to tell is measure the nut width if its a chunky neck behind the nut and it measures 1.5 across the nut its bigger then a B Shape neck. A and B are most common D are most rare and think 50s tele neck fat U shape giant neck ... A D shaped neck is one inch thick at the nut nothing taken or shaved behind the nut down back of neck C shape is tapered and B shape is getting thin and narrow as is A shaped neck being the smallest and least wide. U shape neck or boat neck is full inch but the shape is more U looking then D or C Stevie Ray liked D necks they were GIANT he had all his work done by Michael Stevens which is how I know this I had my first 58 strat done by Michael and his amazing crew in 1980-81 era and they had done Eric Johnsons Virginia which was a one piece spruce body according to Fullerton they had made some early on out of spruce but too expensive to make all of them that way if one customer said hey how come mine does not look like that then complaints so they chose a more available wood ash or southern ash to keep the weight down. When you look under pickguard look in the route cavities for any tape with a females signature on it Leo had females wiring the guards and doing final assembly as they have lighter touch. So as a matter of pride and quality control Leo asked them to sign the tape so if the guitars came back with any complaints or did not then they knew who would be to blame or to praise.... To keep the customer happy. The pickups should be grey bobbin on bottom and look for a signature perhaps abbigail ybarra wrapped the pickups it sure sounds like it to my ears She wrapped Jimis as in HENDRIX . So no skunk stripe slab board 63 strat with excellent sounding pickups. Get a meter and spec the pickups find out what they rate at please they will be hotter in the 6. ranges id guess since 60s small headstock still and clay dots..... You will see a stamped date on the heel of the neck but honestly if they have photos of that id not remove the neck but if you just have to peek and take photos, make note of which screw is in which hole dont take them fully out and there might be a shim at heel in pocket.... You might see some writing in the neck pocket or stamps and as mentioned the heel of the neck will have a black rubber date stamp. oct63b something like that and inside spring claw cavity under the yellow should be pencil date or its under the guard on the body in the wiring routes.. You got a great guitar id go back and buy the fuzz and tube screamer with it the 4x10 bassman is the rest........ But that guitar has "IT" Should have cloth wiring and the pots you can date they should all be the same codes cts factory pots.... look for the nail holes in body and back of neck heel area and under g tuner you should see the snake bite on heel of neck on back two tiny marks and then an extra screw hole under tuner which is the jig holes from when they routed the trus rod slot which is cold rolled steel and tap and dyed. if you take it apart make note of which screw came out of which hole and take your time and photograph it well. You might see they stopped the red under the guard area where you cant see it thats to save red that area would be under the guard near bottom horn. Remember neck size is determined by A B C D D Being the largest outside of U and both are one inch thick behind the nut and 1.65 wide across nut would be a D size neck. 1 11/16ths would be B size neck and it would be thin and narrow at the nut not chunky or beefy. what type pedals do you make..? if they are fuzz pedals we need to talk more. Im Ron Frey I think you got a great one there.. my ears never lie..
Mia, the first time I watched this video I enjoyed seeing the joy on yours and Chris’ faces of finding and then experiencing playing such a fine vintage instrument. Then I played the video again, closing my eyes and listening closely, the sound brought images of Jimi playing again, it was that good! Thank you for sharing with us and can’t wait to see and here more!
Tone is such a personal thing. But the feel of the instrument is usually what are driving people towards vintage guitars. Not only do they have a history which does seem to fascinate people, but they have also been aged and played in.
That’s because of to me awful sounding pedals they used. They should have just cranked that glorious amp. Tube screamers and fuzzface are the worst pedals ever manufactured to my ears
I still have my first guitar that I play daily. It's a 1962 Fender Strat , Sunburst with the Rosewood neck just like the one you guys purchased. I have many other guitars , but the Strat is my favorite for sure. My dad bought me the guitar to learn on when I was 6 years old.....lol. It is refreshing to see you guys playing Jimi Hendrix songs. Nobody is making incredible music like that anymore .
Wow you’re dad got u a strat at 6. Give us more bavk story. Please. What a cool dad. Was he a player. And u kept trying his. And just got u one ? Was those piano in the house. Etc. Thanks
Wow! Look at these kids having a blast! They both play so well! I think about where that guitar has been and where it'll be in another 60 years... I kind of expect to see Johnny Silverhand standing in the background somewhere.
Whenever anyone tries to play Hendrix licks they have do it in a really manic way, whereas Jimi was always so cool and looked like he could do it in his sleep!
Loved it and so good to see young guitarists still giving respect to the the greats..in this case Hendricks and SRV. That's a lifetime guitar btw,, DONT ever sell it. and play the hell out of it!

Mimi Hi! I saw you were in Sweden for the Stratocaster. I found the absolute perfect solo for you. "Pass It On" with Yellow Jackets. So I pass it with joy. I'm in a moving carousel from Stockholm towards Norway. Greetings Mimi from a sunny Stockholm. Hope for the best 🤗

Hi, Mia - Congratulations to you and Chris... that Strat sounds wonderful! Thank you taking us along on your journey. It's great to see you so happy and excited. I'm glad that music has such an effect on you. 🎶 Hope the two of you have been enjoying Sweden! I'd love to visit there someday. Well, thanks again for sharing, and take care. You rock! 👍🙂
Hey guys, JD here. I love this episode with you too just jamming in a music store using a vintage Strat and some vintage amps and some vintage petals. The funny thing is, I'm now 63 and I have all the amplifiers and guitars that I have ever bought as I have never sold any and now all the stuff I have is vintage. I have a strat Plus from 1990 that doesn't have a mark on it and I've been playing it since then because I keep my guitars exceptionally clean. Perhaps I should have been beating them up over the years so they would look more vintage and people would think that they're worth a whole lot more. I also have a LP Firebrand that I bought in 1980 to play in a rock band and it does have marks on it it looks very vintage and for Gibson plays exceptionally well. Love to watch you guys jamming as I used to go into music stores quite often and just pick up a guitar and try to play something that everyone would appreciate and that was not Stairway to Heaven. Love Stevie Ray Vaughan and all of the Blues of that type. What's the name of the young gentleman who was playing? This guy's got some serious chops.
I too am 63. I too have pretty much kept all my acquisitions through the years. I too have a 90's Fender, mine being a 93 Amer deluxe plus Strat that I bought used in 96. But the difference is I used mine throughout that time and definitely put some wear marks in it. I also got a 97 Les Paul studio in 2012 and haven't played out with it but the wear and tear on this is triple bad compared to my Strat. Ah well it is what it is.
Good on ya mate 👍.. I could sense the excitement you had in purchasing this dream of a guitar. Sounds great too with your dedicated playing 🎸🔥. Brings me back to when I was young.. enjoy the journey and this fine investment 👌
Mimi, I've been following you so long now I feel almost as if I knew you! You've come a long way since the beginning, a little shy and watching you bloom into this great guitar player has been a thrill!! I'm really proud of you as if we really knew each other! That guitar is a year younger than I am, so be careful with that old man! Like the Rocker I am, play it hard! 🤘😝🎸🎶🎶🎶
@@ranatlas Thank you!!! I've chatted with her before, she's a sweet kid, I admire her talent! I think this guy was born in a flower pot, a blooming idiot! ✌😂
I got one really old guitar, some about 30 years old, and some only about 20 years old. Thing is I found the quality of the instrument from start is more important than its age.
The nice bloke may initially have thought “Are you experienced?”, well there’s your answer. Great to be able to turn the guitar inside-out in that shop, instead of the usual ‘Don’t touch signs’. Good fun to watch 🤘🤘
What a great find & acquisition! I bought a '63 Strat NEW in November of 1963 just like this one. Wish I could attach a photo of me holding it for you - just for your records. I remember that the chunky neck carve took some adjustment from the previous years, but it's again come around to being desirable now. We all strung them w/flats then. (Through a 2-10 white / straw Fender Tremolux piggyback. Lots of "Ventures" stuff at the time.😂. EDIT: paid $420 w/case.
I play my 1963 Fender Telecaster into a 1959 Bassman 5F6A, as well as a 1958 Deluxe 5E3 together. When you practice and record with pre-cbs Fender gear, it measurably changes and improves your playing. You can return to reissues and clones for live gigs and make them sound better because you know the response you are looking for. Good players, really good ones, often have a lot of hours on vintage gear. Someone else will take over your gear one day in the distant future so play every second you can on the best gear you can. Keep non-players from hoarding and invest in real vintage guitars and amps now. You won't lose money... and you'll gain greater skills.
So fun to watch Stevie licks being played. Huge fan. How can you not. Have 5 guitars, 4 Fenders (2 blondes and 2 slab neck) and 1 Gretch...don't play but one day. My cousin Greg in Aneheim worked at and was friends with Leo Fender. I met Gerorge Hamilton (Leo's partner) in Texas at a guitar show while buying a Fender Mustang (Daphne Blue). How much was the Strat? Thx Greg California
This axe found the right love. U Guy's play it well. {are you going to name it} ~ next time you're there, could you pick up that amp 4 ME? Enjoy that rig, until I can get there to pick up the amp. Very fun video ~ thanX ✌️
I had one identical to it as a kid in the mid 80s. My dad bought it at a yard sale for $10. I wish I would have kept it. I sold it when I was 11 for $30. It wasn't faded nor was the pait chipped. It did have scratches but just on the surface.
Thank you for sharing this with us, it was great watching you. Your playing is always perfect, I really enjoy listening to you. Safe travels my friend.
I love how comfortable these two are together!! They are both a bit shy normally (no offence) but together they have sparks. I hope they get together and we see. Mimi & Chris = Chrimi
I’m with you in spirit my man. So exiting. My 59’ 60’ is out there awaiting the day that I can bring it home from wherever it, is at this very moment. 🌍 I wish I had a vintage guitar store here. But I might even settle for any music store. As I have not even one ☝️ 😞
6:43. The older fellow in the video appears to be Janne Schaffer. Janne is a famous Swedish guitarist and Session musician. He has worked with many famous acts including Pink Floyd, Bob Marley and the Porcaro brothers. He is probably most famous for his work with ABBA. Anyone who has heard Ring Ring, Waterloo, Mamma Mia, Bang A Boomerang, Voulez Vous, I Have a Dream, S.O.S., or Knowing Me, Knowing You, has heard Janne.
Great store, pitty they have prejudices towards innocent music lovers! I'm from Serbia and the fretless Precision on the floor by the Bassman amp caught my eye, so I tried to go to their website to possibly learn more about it and couldn't access it... "Access from your area has been temporarily limited for security reasons." - they say... What harm can I inflict remotely just being interested in their merchandise? We live in a sad World... Congrats on your new (old) guitar though, it's unbelievable! 🤩😍
For those of you who dont know who the guy working in the store is. He usually plays guitar in Johan Segerborn's videos (the Marshall guy on TH-cam)
Don’t know him either.
@@heyjarrod well look them up 👍
I Knew I’ve seen him before! Thanks
Good eye.
Oh, okay, intresting
I’m sure Jimi would be pretty delighted his sound is being remembered and played like this 55yrs later !
Hendrix predicted that women would pick up the guitar gauntlet and run with it. Mimi is proof he was right.
get lost
Good Grief!!
That Strat's Sound is out of this World Beautiful!!!
Thank you very much for sharing it with us.
Can ya imagine working there like this fine gentleman. When a young fireball guitar player starts tearing into a strat AND with a tremelo bar plugged into the baddest amp in the place. Cranked to Eleven. As a sales dude you want to be there for questions but day after day doing it. It takes a true music lover. Or something. Enjoyed the video! Seeing young folks smiling and laughing. Hell yeah.
I bought my 1962 slab board, LPB Strat in 1974 for $175.00. It changed the trajectory of my life. I still have the guitar and music shop receipt. Your '63 Strat sounded amazing!😊👍

I feel the same about any single coils. I love my teles but I think humbuckers are just too warm and less dynamic like the guy said. I don’t want to get a good strat tho never had an AVRI strat before and I love the my tele
Vintage specs are the best
Right, but after playing my strat for weeks and start playing my les paul, I can't stop that either ;)
@@dewinchy Lmao! That’s a great point, there are times where I have to play with some humbuckers. It just depends on my mood
After 20 years of being a Fender Tele/Strat single coil only player I bought my first humbucking guitar, a PRS. I will never go back.🎸🇺🇸
Sounds amazing Mimi!!! So cool you played Hendrix!!! Enjoy that Strat and thanks so much for posting 🙂✌

thank you!! Sweden was lovely, i hope you get to visit too😊🤍
Hey guys, JD here.
Yep!
I really can't sware on here but wtaf that tone 😮💨🤯🫠😭😍🥰
That relic, that baseman amp 😍🫠
Chris is such a cool guy. I loved seeing him on Andertons. Amazing guitar and I'm glad it's with him now
SHE'S NOT ONLY A GUITAR PLAYER, BUT HISTORIAN AS WELL, ASLO SHE IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL 😍❤️❤️❤️
Such an amazing guitar, and found the perfect home! Will take your journey to the highest of heights.
You guys are such good vibes, and those were some gnarly tones!
This sounds like a letter from a stalker 😂😂😂
@@kevinburns1310 Grow up!
Lol says the man born before 1963 using rock horn emojis 🤣 😂 😆
It sounds like a fan letter to me, what's the big deal? I've written them too and I'm not a stalker. Just telling the truth. 👍🙂
@@ranatlas Thank you!!! I've chatted with her before, she's a sweet kid, I admire her talent! I think this guy was born in a flower pot, a blooming idiot!
✌😂
The Shake, Rattle and Roll video. Thank you so much.!
The scariest part: Baggage checking it for the plane flight home.
Welcome to Gothenburg!
Always Carry it on the plane with you
Congrats with your 1963 Strat, Must be an awesome instrument.
That Bassman is something else, so raw, so beautiful.
I bought a 1963 Strat in 1967 for £150. Worth a lot more now.
I bought a 51 broadcaster in 75 $100.00
I was so happy to see him walk out with it…😊👏👍🙌
This was fun. Thank you
I got one really old guitar, some about 30 years old, and some only about 20 years old.
Wow mimi Jimmy one the first got ripping chords you have a blast
What a great find & acquisition! I bought a '63 Strat NEW in November of 1963 just like this one. Wish I could attach a photo of me holding it for you - just for your records. I remember that the chunky neck carve took some adjustment from the previous years, but it's again come around to being desirable now. We all strung them w/flats then. (Through a 2-10 white / straw Fender Tremolux piggyback. Lots of "Ventures" stuff at the time.😂. EDIT: paid $420 w/case.
Never was a fan of the single coil strat sound for my personal playing, but I love the sound when it's im the right hands playing the right stuff.
Thx

This axe found the right love. U Guy's play it well. {are you going to name it} ~ next time you're there, could you pick up that amp 4 ME? Enjoy that rig, until I can get there to pick up the amp. Very fun video ~ thanX ✌️
This video has reaffirmed my belief I need a fuzz pedal for my 1960s American Original Strat.. great tone on this vid!
It's such a pleasure to see your happy, dazzled faces....We could eat them up!
That 63 sounds like heaven......😱😱 Holy f...... i got my eyes watered
I had one identical to it as a kid in the mid 80s. My dad bought it at a yard sale for $10. I wish I would have kept it. I sold it when I was 11 for $30. It wasn't faded nor was the pait chipped. It did have scratches but just on the surface.
guy working in the shop is cool AF.
The sound is so much vintage . Vintage stratocaster .
Like shopping in a Classic museum 😊Gold Mine ❤ Spectacular, Thxs for sharing Mimi : ) Jesse ✌️
Wow what a guitar store. What a guitar. !!! Thanks
Wooooo! Let’s go 🇸🇪🎸🚀
6:43. The older fellow in the video appears to be Janne Schaffer. Janne is a famous Swedish guitarist and Session musician. He has worked with many famous acts including Pink Floyd, Bob Marley and the Porcaro brothers. He is probably most famous for his work with ABBA. Anyone who has heard Ring Ring, Waterloo, Mamma Mia, Bang A Boomerang, Voulez Vous, I Have a Dream, S.O.S., or Knowing Me, Knowing You, has heard Janne.
that’s so cool, i had no idea
@@mimisounds2843 Thanks Mimi. Love your work. Cheers from the Land Down Under.
That's not Janne Schaffer.🤣
Certainly not Janne
Wonderful Mimi. 👏🏻👍🏻👊🏻💘🌹
whoa !! Jesus!!!!!!!!!!!! God Bless you all! MiMi congrats!
OMG! Mimi! You were in my town shredding guitar!? If I only knew i'd look you up and simp for your autograph❤️
I love my '63 Strat too... Enjoy!!!
That dude can play the guitar 🎸 awesome Hendrix licks !
Boy, you would not have believed what we had at Dixie Guitars in Atlanta 30 years ago...
