    Gene, you are absolutely amazing. The way you pull ideas out of your head blows me away. I would dare to call you a genuine genius. And the way you are able to "roll with the punches" when the original way you had though of causes you to have to change your course and redesign as you go is nothing less than genius.
    I LOVE your steampunk fridge project. If I weren't a bedridden cancer patient I would do this to my main fridge (which looks exactly like the one in your project) in my kitchen. BTW, My whole house is a man cave, which would be awesome if cancer wasn't trying to take my life. Eeh, you win some and you lose some. Either way, I think you are one brilliant craftsman.

    • @askthehealerofthebroken4516
      @askthehealerofthebroken4516 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mycatstolemyphone3648 .... Well change of plans, I'm getting married in January. My husband to be is more or less renovating slash building a house. The whole house is gutted. He is a certified steam engineer. He has had all kinds of ideas for the house. His Mom told him to not go overboard with the house cause he may want to marry some day and his wife won't necessarily like his decor. My mom kinda told me the same thing when I told her I wanted to steampunk my basement, 'don't do the whole house, you may want to sell it some day.'. So yeah, we've got plans for steampunk, rustic, and a little bit log cabin feel, it's going to be a patchwork house. We're going to make a cuddle corner aka a coffee bar. He liked my idea, so we kinda branched off from it. So far the only room that's finished(minus paint)is the bathroom. It has a wine Barrel for the sink. It has barrel staves above the bath tub covering the exhaust fan (there's a 2-3 inch gap for air circulation). There is old stamped metal ceiling. He's going to make a medicine cabinet out of the barrel lid and metal rings. And drawers from old sewing cabnets are going to be put in under the counter. We have other plans but that's it so far.

    I became disabled a few years ago when I contracted a disabling disease. As a result, I took up art and buried myself in the Steampunk genre. I've been wondering what to do to my little fridge in my office. My office became a steampunk room after I got sick. My wife helped me steampunk my desk. I sat in my chair my computer keyboard, and now I've got plans for my little office fridge. (evil grin - My wife said, "No", to the household fridge.)
    As to your little copper bells (if anyone else plans on doing this), for a natural patina shine them up with a Scotchbright pad. Then, in a cup of heavily salted water, dip the copper part in there. The water might tend to bead up and run off. If it does, and just a very TINY drop of dish soap and it will adhere better.
    Then, in a large plastic bow with a top that can seal air tight, place something heavy and PLASTIC (so it doesn't react) on the bottom that will support your copper part(s). Pour some household ammonia in the bottom of the bowl, but make sure it doesn't come up over your plastic support. (For my support, I used some plastic chair leg dohickies that you'd use on carpet to keep the chair from sliding. The little spikes are great for allowing air flow around the copper parts.)
    Seal up the contain. Wait about 15 minutes. Carefully open the container while avoiding breathing the fumes. Remove the part to dry. When it is dry it will have an amazing patina patterns and colors.
    This works on brass (because it contains a lot of copper) and bronze (also contains copper) too.
    If anyone plans to add steel parts, you can force rust with some toilet bowl cleaner that contains HCl (hydrocloric acid). Do it outside, and not over concrete. Smear some on, wait until it bubbles and foams, wash it off. Nutralize it in baking soda and water. It may not look rusty all at first, but leave it outside over night, and you'll have RUST.
    Now... time to plan my fridge layout.
    Thanks again.

    Love the idea. I'd just change one thing though... I would've got an analog fridge thermometer and then modified from there. change the face and make a longer arm to make a bigger gauge. and keep everything so it can still function properly, and put a hole in the front so you can get temperature readings which say "pressure" instead. or just keep it as a temperature gauge since it's still a fridge haha
