Hey there, I owned a 2008 FZ1-S (exact color scheme) and it was a beast. I SCREWED UP and sold it And have regretted it since. I'm on the trail for another one to make into a canyon carver superbike since they are light and handle so well. With a little suspension help and Pirelli Super Corsa II's tires, they are venerable opponents. If you don't like the color of the mirrors, lightly sand them, masking tape them off and spray paint them black. Take your time with very light coats of paint and its easy, and less expensive than buying new.
Thanks, but I already bought new ones... mirrors get too much wind blast, it wouldn't be long before they got beat up. I'm loving the FZ, I just need to up my skill level to match the bikes full potential.
I sold my 2012 two years ago and like you regretted it. Well I got the chance to buy it back so I did. The guy I sold it to did nothing to it and only rode it 140 miles. It will never leave my hands again.

I agree about he wind, but thats why you buy a naked bike. I need to flash my ECU its supposed to transform the bike low end. For now I bought a booster plug which smooths things out low end. Great bike and great value for money.
I LIKE IT!!! I've had two Yamahas....my high school transportation, a '76 XS500; and my first bike after a 12-year break, an '86 FZX700 Fazer. This FZ1 has more horsepower than both of those combined.....LOL You're going to have a lot of fun with this thing!!
Its a cool bike, I just put a quick shifter in today... man when this thing gets to 12, 000 rpm and you click it into the next gear the front wheel pops up. You got hold on... it pulls hard from 10,000 to 12,000 rpm. It gets my adrenaline flowing... what a rush. Those are some cool bikes, I think I should have went the bike route when I was a kid rather than the race route.

@@vicpnut1 I'm not a big fan of the fairing on the FZ1, if it did not have the naked conversion I would have probably not bought it. With out the fairing it has the cool street fight look.
Thanks... it is a blast to ride. That's a tough call. The Z does not have the same power... but FZ's power comes very high in the rpm band. From 0 to 100mph, the Z will feel just as quick. With the FZ, it's old school... no traction control, abs, gear indicator... just fuel injection. There is one major issue with the FZ. At one point, you will have to upgrade the stator rotor. If you do it yourself, it's about $250. A shop will charge 500 plus. I don't think I would have purchased it if it did not look as good as it did. With only 1700 miles, it was like new, but even then, there can be issues... its still an old bike. My suggestion... go for the Z, great bike and great price.
That thing is badass…congrats on the purchase and the deal. That kinda looks like Jordan Lake. I grew up in Chapel Hill. Been a while though…question, what kind of riding pants are those? How do you like them? Fit?

Hey I'm kind of a bike noob but are you sometimes upshifting without the clutch? You just turn the throttle off while you do it? Is that all good for the transmission?
Just a blip of the throttle, and it shifts just fine. It takes a little practices, but once you get it... you never forget. I since installed a quick shifter, no need to twist the throttle.
The front gets light, but does not lift if the bike is stock. Now if you are in 1st gear around 7500 rpm... the bike will go into a power wheelie. 7500-8000 is the sweet spot for this bike, whatever gear you are in, its a beast at that rpm.
No... its a R1 engine, but detuned. It makes around 150, the R1 made 180, Yamaha restricts power in the first 3 gears. From the research I have done... A reflash wakes the bike up big time, and if you change the sprockets its even faster... low 10's and then its a wheelie monster. The bike is a blast to ride.
is the clutch of this bike suposed to be so stiff? mine is also very stiff since i got it i dont had the chance to test another fz1... i can say im a bodybuilder after lifting for 16 years but this clutch messes with my forearm...
