My dad has a fz1 the non naked version and its tuned and got 152 whp and i was riding with him on it and went to the higway and went over 200kmh in around 3 seconds and i fell in love😂
I ride a 2008 FZ1 bought new in 2009. Still running like a top 115,000 k,s . Only thing to ever have mess up was coils. I have replaced 2 coils in 10 years. Never been back to the dealer. still original clutch I,m 66 love the power
@@AndyManCamI changed my spark plugs the other day. I went for a ride and I burned out another coil. Whats strange about this is. The last time I changed spark plugs i had same thing happen. So in 10 years 3 coils.
Excellent analogy Andy. Your verbal skills set you apart from many of those 'professional experts'. In my opinion you deserve at least a 20 fold of the subscribers you have right now. Keep on the excellent work. Safe rides and travels 👍🏍
Many thanks Andree. The numbers are building and who knows, maybe with enough people feeling the same way as you, things might take off at some point!? In the meantime, I'm just going to keep enjoying the ride!
Thank you Andy. This review helped me decide to get my 2009 FZ1 that I have had for 4 mths now. I just love it. So good to be back on a bike again after 15 years away. I am used to the fueling and ride accordingly. You just adapt to what ever you are given and not a big issue. Very comfortable for 4 hours riding. Sore arse after 7 hours but I get that in a car too so no fault of the bike. Plenty of grunt without being jerky. Good handling and well planted even in windy conditions. Not a beginner bike IMO but if you are used to a 200kg plus bike, yes get one for sure.
I've got an old lady like yours here in Spain, and I'm incredible happy. Totally agree with the "smiles per thousand euros". Enjoy your rides and thank you for your video!
Hi Andy - great vid on our bikes well done. UK based, I own a 2010 FZ1S (ABS) version with the following mods. My point is, give me a shout if you ever want to chat or know more about any of them. - Yoshimura exhaust - R&G plate holder - Red stripes rim wheels - Hugger front and back wheel - New levers (with 6 options of comfort) - Gear indicator digital counter - Heated grips same as yours - Better screen for my height (6 foot) - Crash bungs on wheels and engine - Extra bodywork / panels on both sides, really good for protecting my legs in winter and I prefer the look. Plus a Givi top box frame (not fitted as I don’t need it) - Comfort seats, rider and pillion - Braided hoses - K&N filter - Alarm - Light bulbs extra powerful, great at night - Ivan chip I think (done before I bought it, which explains why I have no issues whatsoever with acceleration input) - Kaoko FZ1 throttle control bar end, really good for my 55mile each way long commute - Integrated GPS from handlebar to battery - Battery optimiser plug and brand new battery, which has helped my morning routine of not worrying about the battery
Há - cheers. If you do any type of motorway work, check out the Kaoko throttle control. Simple and easy addition, through replacement of their bar end for the stock one. I’m surprised how much I enjoy that mod more than even the Yoshimura exhaust.
Considering purchasing an FZ1 , BANG FOR THE BUCK .... Performance and price ! I am a technical person, upgrading and personalizing my bikes myself. I do so appreciate your detailed description of your experience riding an owning an FZ1 . Thanks for your effort to point out both flaws and positive points of the bike . Be safe and stay up on 2 , m8 .
@@AndyManCam 9 months later and 13 thousand miles, I'm still very happy with the ll around performance, comfort. However with my riding style and having a unrestricted inline 4 1000 cc, with No rider aids. I'll be putting my 4th rear tire on and 3rd front this year!
My father has a stock FZ1N that he bought new in 2009 while he was still working. He turns 73 later this month and is still enjoying riding it as much as when he bought it. He is still fairly quick on it too!
30min structured on topic speech without a notepad. Good skill. Why underrated, we all love the FZ-1. Bikes don’t get better today. Cost more due to electronics and that StarTrek exhaust, saving us the hp despite euro 123 regulations
Thanks very much! Underrated because, although we do all love them, they don’t get the credit they deserve for their incredible flexibility. The original supernaked!
Greetings from Wayland Ny USA.... I just want to thank you. I really enjoy your videos and after a couple of months of research I just bought a 2015 Yamaha FZ1. My last street bike was a 2008 Harley Night Train. They're cool bikes, but just didn't excite me. I raced motocross and Hare Scrambles off and on for many years. I'm 61 now and can't wait for the weather to get warmer and start riding again.👍👍🍻
Good honest review Andy. I have the 2008 S model and the fueling is perfect. My wife and I agree with the seats, but we fixed that with a pair of AirHawks. We stiffened up the the rear shock but it always wallowed badly under hard cornering with two-up, so fitted an Ohlins adjustable shock - now it's perfect. We just love our bike. You forgot to mention that you have 5 valves per cylinder - that's always worth minor bragging rights.
Thanks Colin. I can imagine a bit of wallowing with 2 up. I have mine pretty much as stiff as it'll go and just having luggage on means I have to ramp it up to max or it wallows. I forgot about the 20 valve setup! More is always better, right?!
I own a 2015 Fz1and absolutely love it. I found it still in its crate in 2016 after it was discontinued and got a hell of a deal. I put 38000 miles on it since the purchase. Shortly after purchasing it, I removed stock lights with low drag LEDs, removed the whale tail which needed a new taillight with turn signals and purchased a Custom LED Blaster taillight assembly with turn signals ($150), replaced the stock exhaust with a 2 Brothers slip on ($530), k&n air filter ($50) and added a Power Commander 5 ($420) to correct the fuel delivery. It roughly gained an additional 20 hp, 20 ft lbs torque(no dyno), 12500 rpm redline (extra 500 rpm) and it tops out at 170 mph (24 mph gain). Worth the upgrades. If you have any mechanical skills, its easy for anyone to do. It's a beast!
EXCELLENT VIDEO------Thank You---I just bought a 2006 with 23000 Ks, absolutely beautiful and I am grateful to have found it, thanks again for the great Video
I bought a FZ1 Fazer from 2009 with 21.000 km for 5.500€ with one year of warranty and made it back stock. Removed the to loud Akrapovič exhaust and short rear fender and bought second hand a standard exhaust, rear fender and original manual book for 125 euro. I only put on Bike Design crash blocs and adjustable brake and clutch handles. Also a TomTom GPS mount system. This will be my 13th Yamaha after 46 years of riding from when I sixteen . Currently I have six FZR 1000 Exup ( 1x 1989, 1x1990, 2x1991, 1x1992, 1x1994 ) and this FZ1 Fazer.
Glad the FZ1N is making you smile, it certainly is one fine machine, definitely saw that proven in your trip to the Alps. Doing the multitude of mods yourself is so fulfilling (a knuckle bashing labor of love :-), Exhaust sounds so exhilarating, Cheers!
Thanks Eric. You'Re so right. When the bike is better than original and you did it yourself, it's deeply satisfying! And it was a monster in the Alps. I can't wait to get it back into some mountains.
Hi Andy. Thanks so much for this video. I just bought 2008 Fz1, with 35k on clock and 3800 euros. I was upgrading from 600cc 2008 Hornet and this new FZ1 is a beast.. Your videos are very helpful considering upgrading or swapping parts (lots of know-how for new&beginner riders&owners). I was doing some research before swapping bike and this video helped a lot! Cheers.
Yhea got also a Fz1N from late 2008 with abs and fully maintens on it. Al the mods a whant has the bike already is had 37k on the klok i spend some more for it 5800 the fz1 engines with good maintens can go above 100k km
Fz1 is a great bike. But i sold it off few month back. I am living in Asia. And the weather here is terrible. FZ1 engine is way too hot for me. I do a lot of travelling and FZ1 Fuel economy sucks. But again, it is a powerful bike, plenty of power. Handling wise is consider quite good. Happy owning your Fz1!
That makes perfect sense. It does get PROPER hot! I hate riding through town in the summer as it feels like I'm being cooked through the nuts! I find the fuel economy great though. Looks like I've got a good one! (Or a weak right hand!!)
Nice recording Andy. Had my 2014 FZ1NA (ABS) model from new and can honestly say its underrated. I have had many bikes. This will keep up with modern exotica on the A and B roads. I just use it for blasts over 100-150 miles. I put a Yamaha fly screen on it. Arrow end can and rear seat matching cover. Tailtidy next. Then thats it. Can’t say I have experienced the delay at 4k from shit off. Looked at upgrading to MT10 but no way after demo run. Save ya money. I am still in love with this bike.
Cheers Paul. Totally agree mate. As shown by the chappy on the end of my last tour on his S1000RR that thought he ought to be in front of me, but then couldn't get away! It's MORE than enough machine to keep pace with the newest and trendiest. Good that you've haven't felt the snatch (ahem). It does seem that the later bikes definitely exhibited the problem to a far lesser degree than the first iteration that I have. Happy FZ'ing mate!
Greetings from Northeast FL. USA. Just picked up a in great shape FZ1 yesterday for a song. In the USA our bikes have these hideous quarter size fairings which I want to get rid of and somehow get my hands on the headlight / naked look you guys have in Europe. Really appreciate the informative videos for mods and things that you are putting out for the FZ1 thank you very much!
Great video, very informative. I currently own a 2013 FZ8. that has a few aftermarket add-ons, including a Coffman exhaust, Puig windscreen and a RAM X Grip phone mount. Im enjoying it very much, after being out of motorcycling for over 10 years. It has been , in my opinion the perfect bike to start riding with again. Ive been riding my FZ8 for about 6 mos. now. I was recently presented w/the opportunity to pick up a very clean 2007 FZ1 N, so Ive been doing a bit of research on it. Thats how I came upon ur video. Im not sure what Im going to do yet, as far as swapping my FZ8 for the FZ1, but I just wanted to leave a quick comment. Cool video, and as I said I thought u presented alot of great information. But what really struck me almost more than the bike related informatiion, was how impressed I was at ur being able to transition so flawlessly between English and the occasional German. Im assuming you are German, yet u speak better English than most of the people I deal with in Los Angeles. Great video. Thank you for the excellent information and keep up the good work.
Many thanks Dan! I guess the only real acid test is to ride an FZ1 and see if the power actually feels increased to you. So much of the two bikes is essentially the same, so the benefits would have to be convincing! I’m actually British, but have had to learn to speak German since I’ve lived here.
I watched a lot of your videos before I decided to replace my first bike 2001 FZS1000 , a reliable companion for ten years. Your videos really cemented my decision to get into FZ1’s. So I ended up buying 2008 FZ1-S three months ago. So far I have got great 7000km with it. The only complaints I have are worse fuel economy and a bit too firm seat. The bike was in stock form but I have a list of mods that I want to do and they are not too far from what you have done. So far I have been able to tick off only a few of them but they will be done eventually.
Congratulations on the new bike Tomy. They do need a little bit of effort to make them great, but the FZ1 has so much potential! Keep enjoying it mate!
Great vid, currently driving 2008 fz1n non abs, previous was a 2009 fz6n abs, was nervous about the move up but definitely worth it. Hard to beat a fz1n
Loving my fz1 too, rebuilt 21k mile minor insurance write off costing me just £2k to buy and around £700 to repair. I prefer the S model I have as I'm a faired bike lover but also the twin headlamp setup gives me so nice night time riding punch. A great bike and great value as a secondhand buy. Long live the MT10 and god bless it for driving down the prices of the fz👍 a great video as usual Andy 👍
That's an absolute steal Carl! Nice one! Can't argue with twin headlights if you ride at night. I never thought about it like that, but you're right! The whole MT range has made our riding lives so much cheaper!
Another excellent video both in style and content. Always fun to watch. I have a lingering thought however. The FZ1 is a 150hp / 89nm kind of bike. At 62, I got my first bike. A new, straight out of the dealer two year old 2017 Honda NC750X that I bought for a good price, last october (2018) and got delivered mid April (2019). The engine specs for that bike are 54hp / 68nm. Red line is very low at 6250 rpm. Max torque is at 4750. Problem is, I thought I had a fast bike. At the time, I remember seeing a video on YT where another young man brought the NC750X to 185kph is a matter of a few seconds. I still think the NC750X is plenty fast … for me! My only conclusion is that "Andy Man Cam" is a young man with a very recent Brain Control Unit (BCU) and I guess mine will soon need to be re-flashed. 😂😇😎
Haha! He's not THAT young any more! (29 with 10 years experience) I think far more important than the power is how it works for you. Sure my numbers are all much bigger, but the fact that your peak torque is at less than 5000 whereas mine only really starts to generate ANY power at those revs will mean utterly different characteristics. Yours likely pulls like an absolute train from the go. With mine you'd have to always keep the revs up or just be patient until the power comes in! That said, the higher redline is always a smile-maker. I can go from 0 - 140 Km/h in first gear! You'll just have to have a little go on something like it, but be prepared to never look at your old bike in the same way ever again. Oh and reason, logic and 'sensible' are just 3 of the things that get switched off with the BCU reflash ;)
Did this ferry across Rhine once and was swung across by an upstream cable! Real clever no motors involved just flow of river. Steered by ferry and flow of water. Oh, bike looks great
Also, if anyone is interested, I have 2008 fz1 and 2009 bandit 1250. Bandit pulls from 0 rpm which can be startling tbh. Imo there is no need to go from 0 to 15 mph in 1 second. The fz1 on the other hand is like a 600 up til 25mph or so and then the power kicks in like a jet afterburner and you go sonic way way past bandit. This for me is a much more usable use of power, especially in London traffic as it means when you want crazy power and you get it as oppose to accelerating into the back of a Somalian taxi driver for whom the world is his drop off point.
I totally agree John. The torque curve of the fz1 does mean that you can have a smooth experience, but if you want you’ve also got a rocket between your legs! Smooth low end torque is also pretty addictive though! 😉
I'm thinking about an FZ1, anesd I own a Bandit 1250. I've owned big and med sport bikes before, and ridden an R1. The Bandit power is something some like. It does not need to be waited for. It's on! But yeah a high revving inline 4 is a more progressive .
I just got back from the Black forst 1800 miles round trip on a triumph street triple . Before i left replaced the seat for comfy seat wouldn’t of help much so bough a add on air cushion seat . Made a big difference all so puts your seat highs so not so cramped.
Brilliant review Andy, and thank you for helping me decide on whether to take the punt on the FZ1.. Far and away your analogy is spot on and a very appreciated opinion. Ride safe as always!!
Yeah you're correct regarding the fuelling. It is right that the injectors turn off during throttle off occasions, that's how all fuel injection systems work. You can adjust the tip in fuel values when opening the throttle when the ECU is remapped. That will smooth out initial throttle applications.
I added a FI 2000 aftermarket ECU which trickles a small amount of fuel constantly and reduces fueling snatchiness by 70%+-. It dropped my mileage per tank full from 165 miles to 135 miles. But totally totally worth it!
My lasting impression of the last half hour is, simply, of a superb, comprehensive and articulate review, Andy, and I now have an unexpected urge to buy (and farkle) one. That was thoroughly enjoyable too. Thanks mate 👍
Been watching a few of your videos, Andy. Good to hear a voice from the motherland (even in Germany)...Used to have an 09 FZ1S, absolutely loved that bike, solid it only due to a change in domestic situation which led to me getting an 05 Hornet 919 (cb900f), great urban brawler but massive change from the fazer. As for the FZ1...I changed the front sprocket for a 16t, speedo healer, satan's adaptor and R1 shock (lovely change in turn in), some other small things but the staggering change was the ECU flash by Ivan - completely transformed the bike. Hugely recommended. Now I am pondering an 2011 speed triple, then came across a 14' FZ1N for a similar price here in Melbourne, and got back onto reviews and here I am...You really should check out Ivan's flash(all fuelling issues are vanished). It was a different beast entirely, so much power unleashed all over the place (not that it needed it). Main hesitation with going back to a FZ1 is that I lost my licence o the last one...yet given my other option at the moment is a Speed Triple (11000km on the clock), clearly that is not a pivotal factor in my 40 year old eagerness to return to something more of a missile than urban brawler...keep up the good work, mate! I raise my glass to your sterling effort from the garden here in Melbourne.
Wow, amazing review... really good quality everything, congratulations man. Your British accent along with the metric system talk sounded odd but so, so satisfying :). Can't believe I've watched a 30 min review without getting bored and even being surprised it ended so quick. You've just got a new subscriber ;)
I started following you because in April 2018 i purchased my own 2008 FZ1S. It's a seriously underappreciated bike. Mine had just 19k km on the odometer, in mint condition and for less than the cost of a below average condition 600 supersport. It's by far the most confidence inspiring bike i've ever owned. I ended up installing the Healtech GI pro and quickshifter after watching your videos. Chucked a big Givi top box on the back and now it's the perfect commuter. Same gripes, even the improved 2008 model fueling is still very snatchy and damn scary applying power while cornering in the rain. You do learn to ride around it though. PS: Another +1 for the Road5s, i'm on my 3rd set. Great rubber, even if it doesn't last very long.
Cheers mate and welcome to the team! The bike only gets better with every mdoification. Maybe an ECU flash or perhaps first of all a Boosterplug will soften up your snatchiness. But you're right, you learn to ride around it. Amazing the flexibility of this machine though. I find that the Road 5's are lasting for ages! But maybe I ride a bit gentler than you do! :D
Lord have mercy! Best reviewer ever! You have killed other bloggers bs by way far out smarter comments!! I was looking into buy a fz1 2008 for dirt cheap! Plus I’m used to the jerky ness of the throttle because I own an Fz09 2014😂👀😂 thinks Cán definitely improve specially if I’m in the urgency for a liter bike so I can keep up with the rest of my buddies ! Thanks mate and see you soon
Many thanks Walter. Very glad that you think so mate. Just trying to keep everything honest and real, oh and of course classy! 😉 If the jerkiness is nothing new to you, then this is a hell of a lot of bike, for very little money. Truly awesome!
I've had my FZ1S for about 5 years, bought it with just 350 miles on the clock! I've put about 20k on since and I wouldn't change it for the world, such a good all rounder. Although thanks to your videos I've now got a stator to change!!
Only looking at this because there was one beside me at the ferry from the NW200... 204bhp at the rear wheel... running a supercharger, what a sleeper!
Nice review Andy. Very professional 👍 I had a 2007 FZ1 in yellow/black. An all round very good bike. I agree under rated. My issues were the poor fuelling, poor low down torque and very skittish front end especially in the wet. That apart I had a lot of fun on her and enjoyed my ownership. Part ex’d her for a Suzuki B king. Now that’s a naked beast! Best bike I’ve ever had by far! (and I’ve had a few!) Ride safe mate.😉
Cheers mate! Yeah those are pretty much the issues I have. Slowly getting around them. I have to say that with the Michelin Road 5's on, the front of my FZ1 has never felt more solid.
i am between these two bikes at the moment. since you are the only person i found to have owned a Bking and an Fz1, would you say the maintenance costs are about the same? also how is the Bking after 2 hours of riding? your opinion would be greatly appreciated and also any tips you might have. Cheers
@@liandel I hope you purchased the B king in the end. Sold mine last year but must admit it was by far best bike I ever owned, and what an engine! Very reliable and not expensive to maintain, both chain and tyres lasted well. Very well made and becoming rare . It was chalk and cheese with the FZ1N.
@@Adz456 sadly no… i got the FZ1 and kind of regret it. Dont get me wrong its a great bike, super fun and comfortable. But after owning a suzuki i cant feel ok with other engines. Maybe Honda, but thats just me of course
Each to their own I guess. I just had a CB1000R for 2 years and found the FZ1 engine far smoother. Not as torquey, but less tiring on long motorway stretches. But now I’ve got a KTM 1090 ADV and I don’t know how I ever lived without that engine!
I had a 2009 fz1n Yamaha with a full arrow exhaust system k and n filters and power commander. That 20v R1 Engine is awsome. Very fast Handled well, but was very thirsty. It is very light and is great fun to Ride. I would have another one.
I owned a 2009 FZ6, my son owned the 2007 FZ1, we would swap back and forth and they were both great machines. That was then. Today i ride a Honda CB1000R! Same type of Naked Bike, but i prefer the styling of the Honda over the MT10. Just a matter of taste i suppose.
Absolutely. The MT-10 is a real marmite styled machine. I also prefer the more classic look and less weird plastic bits jutting out all over the place!
2012 FZ1, purchased in April of 2013, new (and at a true Bargain price!) it has a newer engine design than your bike, (Brought over from the previous years R1 with a bit of retuning.) and the 'backbone frame' rather than the cradle design. But the overall nature of the bikes are very similar. I also kept the center-stand and side-stand... added the Power Commander 5 with 'Auto-Tuner' and custom Power Commander fuel mapping. Yoshi full R77 Exhaust (with most of the catalytic material extracted -- don't tell anyone!), K&N Filter and some airbox modifications... Twin LOUD Horns, and a "2-Up" handle mounted around the fuel filler (which also secures My occasional Tank Bag.), and a taller 'mid-level' wind screen, to make highway riding more comfortable. Dyno wheel HP is 147. Top speed, on a Race Track, was 175mph @ 14,500 rpm (or about 282 k/ph) I ride with folks on many types of bikes, from Cruisers, and large group rides -- fund raisers, Honor escorts, Parades, etc -- to chasing some friends thru the mountains who are Sponsored Racers... And me and my FZ1 do a pretty fair job of keeping up, on Dunlop Q3+ tires and no "chicken strips", and my 70 year old body. (with a few permanent injuries to my knees and right hip.) I sometimes tie on a couple of travel bags, for a weekend trip, and throw in a tool kit and first aide kit into my tank bag, and I am ready to go!! My FZ1 is almost like a "Universal Bike" because I can do just about anything I want with it, from cruising with friends, to ripping off some track days at an International Race Course.
Very nice. Sounds like a weapon Floyd! It really is a do all machine. If I fell on harder times (which is kind of actually happening!) I could happily imagine trading in the CB1000R and going back to an FZ1. Awesome machine.
In the city i found it a bit hot and a bit hard work because of the really long first gear. It can certainly do it, but there are better city commuters out there. Though if you’re ‚enduring‘ the city commute so that you’ve got a weekend weapon, then it’s definitely worth it!
Just discovered your channel whilst browsing, as I have recently added a 2011 FZ1-N to my collection, would like to say how improve we are with your video's, the Swiss tour looks fantastic on the HD TV,( I traveled Switzerland in a truck many times, and never really considered returning but now with have another tour destination, on our bucket keep up the good work,
Hey ho, Herr Kam, good to see you well and rollin'. I have to admit that before I got my KTM, I considered getting an ABS FZ1 (in white of course) just to spite you 😜 The KTM, having the same posture as the Versys, is pretty comfortable and I've done some fairly long day trips on it. The fueling is absolutely mental, almost certainly far worse than the FZ1, and I considered getting one of those throttle tamers and remapping the ECU (which can be easily done at home, since it's not locked). In the end, I just got used to it. With a combination of clutch feathering (the hydraulic clutch does help there) and a softer and lighter gas hand, the problem goes away. I think that quirks in a bike give it a bit of character. I kept the Versys and ride it when I want a docile ride. I still love the bike, even if it is somewhat anemic at my delicate 125kg weight. It's still one of the best cornering bikes I've ridden. I think Kawasaki missed out on a huge opportunity in not making an 800cc version of the Versys. It would have given the Tracer 900 some competition. But Kawasaki are a bunch of lazy buggers and seldom do anything innovative. As for tyres, I've now got Michelin Pilot Road 4s on the Versys and they feel absolutely fantastic (she said), and cost a bit less than the 5s. I actually prefer them over the Conti Road Attack 3s that I've got on the KTM.
That would have been a belter! I'd have seriously considered switching to an 800 Versys. I have heard that the KTM is a bit wilful! EFI with all that torque on tap is a nerve wracking combination! But you'Re right, sometimes we have to change how we ride to fit the bike, rather than the other way around.
@@AndyManCam Character maketh man, old sun son. Hope you're doing ok. Btw, I think I finally gigured out why you came off the Versys in Austria: Copper grease on the back of your brakes. When the brakes get hot, which they do with Mr Kam's GP style cornering, said grease runs and drips. Guess where it drips onto....
Old video, but I wanted to ask what you thought about the Tracer 900 vs the FZ1, since you have ridden both. I had an FZ1 for a while and absolutely loved it. Do you think the Tracer 900 is the natural evolution of the FZ1 style bike from yamaha? Which would you choose?
I really enjoyed the Tracer 900. i wouldn’t necessarily say it’s the natural evolution as it was quite different. Very different power delivery and riding position. As I’m now a convert to the adventure bike, I’d probably go for the tracer for better comfort and a more torquey low end. Plus the CP3 sounds fantastic. But either would make me very happy! The newest tracer 9 made far less sense to me though. Looks great, but was uncomfortable, odd equipment spec and the motor felt somewhat breathless.
@@AndyManCam Thanks for the reply, youve been making great videos for a while so I definitely appreciate your opinion. I am on my way to the adventure bike as well, I am 198cm and scrunched over on a Z900rs at the moment. Hard to beat that CP3, but I agree about the new tracer, the engine is long in the tooth for the heavier platform, weird array of radar cruise control and gadgets but doesn't have the older generations pep. Thanks again, ride safe!
Thanks for NOT begging us to 'like' and 'subscribe'. Nice review and way preferable to ones done on dealer demo rides. Owner reviews may be less objective but less thorough however. Ride within your limits. You may not have the roads we have in southern New York at your disposal. I can ride 3 minutes and get to a peg to peg scratching ride. I see some shine on your rear tire so take it one corner at a time. Besides my prodigious 2 stroke collection, I've had the '03 Z1000 and an '09 FZ6 (non R) from new. Other than taller gearing there are no farkles. When someone can show me the wheel then I'll upgrade. Yesterday I ambushed and gunned down a stranger KTM 690 on my uphill section of dirt road by the house on my 7hp '89 DT50/LC enduro. Great dual camera use plus some droning. Not too long and the edits keep it moving.
Thanks very much! Yeah it’s more about what you do than what you’ve got! Don’t be too negative towards those that ask for the likes and subs. They’re more important for the survival of a youtube channel than you think and they also don’t cost anything!! Sometimes i even forget to hit the thumbs up button on well deserving videos myself.
Hi Andy, great video and Yammy, I have a 2007 FZ1 S that I have had since new, gel seat is a good upgrade, left mine stock except for seat, and just ride it, underated bike, R1 for old blokes.
Well done vid & nicely appointed bike. I’d shorten that monster canister, & add Renthal bars to be proper. My bike needed a new seat, an OEM unit was $465. But I opted for custom reupholstery in suede over Naugahyde. I had an extra inch of gel foam added to my seating area only. Here’s the benefit; besides longer distant comfort, it doesn’t get hot from the FL sun which is brutal, & has held up against fading so far.I used to need to use cool wet rags to cool it enough to sit on, now a thing of the past. Only downside is it’s not waterproof, so I carry a heavy mil. garbage bag (cut to size) & a giant rubber band under the seat, should to need arise.
Haha! Funnily enough, I've just fitted a longer can, but in Carbon fibre so it looks shorter! ;D I've just bought a used seat that was custom reupholstered for the original owner. Way higher and softer, so we'll see how that goes. for 60€ it was worth a punt.
Great review on the bike! I have an 07 fz1 fazer naked, so it has the gold forks. I feel the same way about the bike. I was looking into getting an R1 or CBR1000. This bike is awesome for the power of a 1000, but still is super comfortable! These are SUPER underrated. I don't have the same issue of choppy throttle. I don't know if the last owner flashed the bike, he clames he didn't do anything with the ecu. Perhaps I got a gem out of the lot made.
Weird that mine has the black forks and the silver footpeg hangers. they made a black edition at some point that had no silver at all. Might have to trawl ebay for some more black bits!
@AndyManCam I had the exact same bike with the same extras but I also had a belly pan, a rear seat hugger, a Ohlins steering damper & Ohlins rear adjustable shock & an awesome Yoshimura Black exhaust which I can’t recommend highly enough, it improved the look of the bike by a large margin, oh a smoked small windscreen also. Out of interest do you live in Germany? I was in the army in the 90s in Germany & was posted to Verden Aller, Herford, Osnabruck, SHAPE & Fallingbostel. Loved the place, even married a local German girl who came back with me to England. I was in Hamburg just a few years ago to meet some friends. Cheers for the great video, have subbed & liked.
I found your channel last year because I bought a FZ1N at the same time. And just like you, one year later I´m in love with it (and your channel). I did some simalar mods, same screen, it came with a sc project exhaust, got a nicer tailtide, powercommander 3 and yamaha led plus drl/led blinkers with dimming. I'm in the proces of quieting it down a little, here in the Netherlands and in the Eifel just across the border they're checking soundlevels more and more. (and the fines are not funny at all) What you can do for some more height is get your seat reapolsterd with some extra padding. A mate of mine (195ish) did this with his GSX-R. and it cost him around 100euro's at a shop. The seat is about 2cm higher now. Was thinking of doing the bars aswell, althought seeing you do it, made me move it to a wintertime upgrade (and replace my heavy clutchcable at the same time...) Do doubt if I will bring my ECU to Nippon bikes this summer holiday or in the winter aswell. Will be opening the secondary flyies soon, already have the map for the PC3 for it. That should be good to wake it up a bit. Love the bike, love your channel and keep up the great work!
Thanks Alexander. Glad to hear you’re enjoying your FZ1 as much as me mate! Yeah those SC project cans are throaty beasts! I’ve just ordered myself a used BOS can for a more refined exhausting experience! I’ve also recently got a seat that somebody else had reupholstered. Too early to tell if its more comfortable, but its certainly a bit higher!! So already the next year roundup video will look a bit different!!
Great information! Thanks and congratulations are in order that recognizes your communication skills, driving skills, maintenance skills as well as your very dry sense of humor. All very enjoyable! It is also very impressive to travel along to so many exciting and different places. No one else does that! I enjoyed the fact that at times you included your parents along for the ride! I would like to be DMC (Danny Man Cam) for a day! All the best to you and Mrs. AMC!
I don’t know if it’s been mentioned to you before but if you do a search “Ivan’s fuel controller FZ1” he used to at least make a module you can splice into the system that largely addresses the fuelling issues, I had one on my ‘06 FZ1 S and it massively improved riding bike. It was an easy install because I did it and wiring what not usually gives me the heebee geebee’s. Also consider a Sargent seat from the U.S. for the comfort issue but it won’t really address the rider triangle issue. I wish I had put a 55 on my FZ but I did drop the forks through the yokes by 10mm from memory. I did go to a 55 from a 50 on my ZX14, Concours 14 and ZX14R and it was a brilliant simple upgrade for handling. I had an Arrow alloy slip on the FZ which also eliminated the EXUP valve an I still think it was one of the hottest sounding 4 cylinders I’ve ever heard, sounded so angry 😁🤟🏻 www.ivansperformanceproducts.com/fce.htm
You mean the FCE? I've read a lot about it and they're no longer available except for used ones. Seems they did a great job but I don't like the idea of cutting into ECU wiring. I'd worry about the further reduced ground clearance from dropping the forks. It's already pretty low! I've got a 30mm jack up kit on the shelf, but I'm worried that the forward lean of the seat will be too much to bear! Also the centrestand wouldn't work anymore as the rear is already only 10mm off the ground due to the 55!
I am about to get my hands on an MT10 after giving it a test ride about a month ago. Yes, it is bonkers, eats fuel like there is no tomorrow, but for me the looks, the sound, the handling all ticked the right boxes. Not too fond of the looks of the FZ1N myself, and the CP4 of the MT10 sounds just so much better for me. Moving up from a TDM900 it is fair to say I am somewhat used to the throttle being snatchy, so honestly it does not bother me at all. However, the FZ1 is a much more sensible (and a hell of a lot cheaper) option, also cheaper to run :) To each his own, glad you like your FZ1n ;) Thanks for the good video, stay being awesome!
Cheers mate! You've got to get what works for you! No surprises that the MT-10 is so popular! If I could get a CP4 motor in my bike, I'd have it all day long! The sound is BRILLIANT!
Hi Andy, I only recently "discovered" your You Tube channel. I like it very much!!!!! I've used your vlogs to fit the Oxord heated grips and the Healtech Quickshifter. They were very helpfull. I own a 2007 FZ1N in Power Blue color. I bought it in 2014. I like the bike very very much!!!! I call it: the blue rocket. You need a rope to tie yourself down to the bike haha. I changed a lot to the bike to customize. It's getting more beautifull every time. It allready had an EJK controler, K&N airfilter and an awsome MIVV exhaust. What a great sound that makes!!!!!! At the Dyno test run the bike had 150 HP at the rear wheel. That's enough for me, wow. I'm planning to instal the two tone horns just like you did. They sound great. I will use your video again for it. You have great skills Andy. Keep up yhe good work. All of your video's are fun to watch!! Sorry for the mistakes in writing......
I swear to god this bike is just an FZ8 with bigger cylinder head, same gauges, same engine cover, frame, tail etc 6:04 Good one :D Also I don't know what your occupation is, or where you lived but I don't know anyone that speaks such perfect and selective English and German... It's genuinely impressive to just listen to you talking
@@DJTheGX You might be right actually, I haven't looked into it but why would a company downsize an engine based on a race bike? Usually it's the other way around lol
Same. Lighter crank same stroke as R1 but not sure if the FZ1 shares the ligher FZ8 crank or heavier R1 model. The cylinder on FZ8 is smaller thus the cylinder body is also different....hence the smaller 779cc displacement. I think the head is different with different size valves..but not 💯 sure about that.
You guys pretty much covered all that I was going to say! Too late to the party I guess!? Ps, thanks [HUN]AntaresSQ01, I’m just happy that folks get the message that I’m trying to convey!!
I've got an 08 fz1 with an Ivan's ECU flash, air box mod and full hp corse exhaust system with cat delete. I traded a 09 ninja 650 for my 09 fz1 and both were great bikes but the power that the fz1 delivers compared to the 650 is no comparison. Getting your ECU flashed is a must and is worth every penny.
.. nicely reviewed - all items coverd & last but not least: how comes your pretty good British pronunciation?! ; ) .. bought a FZ 1 Fazer in "like new condition" 2 weeks ago and couldn´t ride it for a single meter till now ..I keep my fingers crossed for a rapid improvement of these annoying typically British summer conditions in southern Germanys early April .. good luck to you, well done!
Thanks mate! The pronunciation would be down to my 42 years of being British! 😁 My German pronunciation isn’t quite so natural! Hope you get out on your new bike soon. Viel Spaß!!
Looking at a 2014 FZ1 and S1000R. Which will be the best for daily commute and occasional long rides? Gone through all your videos. What are the basic checks needed to be done before signing the papers. How to check the rotor issue in FZ1. Cheers Andy
I found that i had a little bit more legroom on my FZ1 than the S1000R that I tried. Both would probably be fine for a short commute, though the low speed fuelling on the BMW was far superior. What to check for before buying is a subject for a whole series of videos! I’m pretty sure that Fortnine has covered that subject a bit. Sadly the Rotor issue is only checkable by taking out the rotor. But that’s time and a 10€ gasket for peace of mind. As long as the seller is game, that is.
Good review. I got the 2009 fared version. I don’t seem to have the fuel shutoff problem? I did change the stator rotor housing for peace of mind. Got a Renee can which pops and crackles nicely. Apart from that it’s about standard
Don't know if you still have the FZ1 but having a look at one tomorrow so gathering information from vids like yours. Seems like a really nimble bike for a 1000cc, really like the styling and the proven R1 motor. Just wondering how things are going after a period of ownership, any probs or regrets.
I had one for 3 years. Great bike and still on my thumbnail pic but have now upgraded to a KTM 1090 which trumps it everywhere ( although not on top speed) in the real world.
How much money does a KTM cost compared and if it is 4 5 or 6 times as much is it 4 -6 times as good? One newish KTM or I can buy 4 or 5 older but still plenty of life in them bikes. But if you have lots of money who cares right? I don't and like value for money when I buy things.
Everybody has what works for them Stephen. If you’re totally happy with your Fz1 and don’t need to ‚upgrade‘ then you’re truly winning. I felt the same about mine until something that suited me better came along at the same time as my financial situation suited it. If i hadn’t bothered, you know for a fact that I’d still be enjoying the hell out of my FZ1-N.
Thanks for this video, I'm seriously considering trading up from a Suzuki SV650 to a Yamaha FZ1S. Although I've had a few different bikes, V4's, V Twins and inline 4's. As I often ride with a pillion, I think the inline 4 engine along with more capacity might make riding a bit more relaxing/smoother. Looking forward to the extra power!
Comprehensive review, I wish you could do that for loads of different bikes because you seem to be born to do this kind of stuff man. I'm getting close on replacing the old V for something bigger, not just displacement wise but the overall size of the bike. I think I have the longest bloody legs and most broken spine on this side of the hemisphere so the V is killing me on every trip longer then 350 km. Sadly, something like the FZ won't do, and I'm pushing 40 so it means only one thing... Big adventure beasts next, screw it! Your point on wind buffeting on the V is spot on, it's incredible how nothing other then apparently a meter of windscreen would stop that from happening. Really hurts you on the long distances at cruising speeds... Road 5s are amazing so far, dry grip seems to be much improved from the old PR 4s. Rant complete, cheers Andy and keep up the good work!
Haha! I suppose the adventure bug comes to us all at some point! Luckily they're all far lighter, more lary and more exciting than they ever where before! So you'll not get bored! I wish I could do this for more bikes mate, I'd love it. the only problem is getting the bikes for long enough to do any real kind of testing! I'll keep writing to the manufacturers and maybe one day they'll start saying yes!
It's going to be 2014. 1200 GS, completing the papers in couple days time. Don't know if it's the right choice but I rode it and it feels almost lighter then the Versys, great fun. So there's that... I figured if not now, when? Transfagarasan awaits!
Thanks man, it's quite a big chunk of money, but I think they hold the price extremly well so apart from enjoyment, I kinda look at it as an investment. What horrible, materialistic view that is, I know! 😬
Super nice content, not a bit too long! I'm owning a 2006 since 3 weeks and love it.....but just like you I'm already looking for a flash to get rid of the 'on/off' effect!
Many thanks! It seems that a Flash is the single best thing that we can do to these bikes to really open up their true potential! Keep loving that Fizzer!
Hi Andy, just discovered your channel. I have a 2007 FZ1 that I've actually owned for about 4 years now, but I've finally decided that I will in fact be keeping it and making some changes to it, rather than selling it and buying something else (at large part of that being that I can't really afford it). My rotor already shit the bed and I've replaced it along with the stator (was damaged by the magnets) as well as I just did the LARS airbox mod today. I have a full Hindle exhaust system and a PC III. The few days, after deciding to keep my FZ1, I've started taking it apart to do the first valve service. Many are out of spec, so I'll be pulling the cams and shimming them. Not sure if you're heard about the issues that some 06-08 models had with failing intake valves as well? I fully agree with your review of the stock seat. My bike has 42,000kms on it now (30,000 by me) and the seat feels fairly worn and I start to slope into the tank. It wasn't always like that, so I'm considering an aftermarket seat as well. ECU re-flash will be on the list too, but I'm going to wait until the end of this riding season before mailing it away to have that done. I can also attest to the fuelling issues present in the stock ECU configuration. Cheers.
Hey Skylar. Welcome aboard! It is just too much bike to give up, unless the deal on the replacement is amazing!! Glad you're loving yours. Sounds like we're in similar positions and I'll be keeping mine for a while too probably.
Hey Andy, I've had my FZ1 for about 4 years now and have done around 50k miles (think that's like 80,000 km) I'm in the USA so we never got the naked version but everything you said about the bike is spot on. Hands down one of the best bikes I have ever owned. You are going to love it even more after you get the ECU flashed... it turns that bike into a monster while getting rid of all the stupid restrictions the stock ECU has. Ride safe.
That's impressive mileage! I can see me riding mine into the hundreds before I ever decide to let it go. And by then it'll be worth nothing, so I may as well keep it forever!
Really useful and complete review. Thank you. The recorded sound of your voice is really clean. Can i ask you what mic did you use on this video? Thank you!
One of the most enjoyable bike reviews I've seen. (Been binge watching a ton of them lately.) Have you ridden the FZ8? If you have, how would you say this compares?
I bought one three months ago a 2011 Fz1 I love it to death I have some minor modification more than enough horsepower then I'll ever need I've got about 150 horsepower out of the motor right now out of rear end. I want to get the handlebars that he is suggesting.
@@AndyManCam I watched your track day video with the friendly fellow as well, I get that it was a wee bit disappointing and all, but it clinched it in my mind. I am actively seeking just such a fine steed now, thanks and keep up the great content!
Love you vlogs Andy..so informative and entertaining.. I've a 2010 FZ1..have it 3 + years..mpg is shocking.. 200 odd kilometers per tank is tops..and I ride very easy..would love a solution...alas.... Safe riding...
Thanks very much mate! That is shocking mileage! Are you only using the first 3 gears?! I always got between 275 and 300km to a tank on mine! Has it had an ECU flash that you don‘t know about perhaps? Air box blocked? Spark plugs fouled? Rear wheel bearing worn? Tyre pressures too low? I can‘t think of anything else!
Thanks! It's a SPES Speedlink lavalier mic, plugged into the Hero6 with the gopro audio adapter. But after that I do a bunch of audio trickery with Davinci resolve, just to bring out that last bit of clarity!
My dad has a fz1 the non naked version and its tuned and got 152 whp and i was riding with him on it and went to the higway and went over 200kmh in around 3 seconds and i fell in love😂
It truly is a beast of a bike, but seems like a mild mannered gentleman. It’s like a geography teacher who is also an MMA champion!
I ride a 2008 FZ1 bought new in 2009. Still running like a top 115,000 k,s . Only thing to ever have mess up was coils. I have replaced 2 coils in 10 years. Never been back to the dealer. still original clutch I,m 66 love the power
Brilliant! 2 coils in 10 years is absolutely brilliant mate! I think my coils must still be original.
@@AndyManCamI changed my spark plugs the other day. I went for a ride and I burned out another coil. Whats strange about this is. The last time I changed spark plugs i had same thing happen. So in 10 years 3 coils.
That is weird! Note to self *Dont change spark plugs!!
Excellent analogy Andy. Your verbal skills set you apart from many of those 'professional experts'. In my opinion you deserve at least a 20 fold of the subscribers you have right now.
Keep on the excellent work.
Safe rides and travels 👍🏍
I agree. He knows how to talk!
Many thanks Andree. The numbers are building and who knows, maybe with enough people feeling the same way as you, things might take off at some point!? In the meantime, I'm just going to keep enjoying the ride!
Cheers Lee. I've had lots of practice! ;D
andree hammerschmidt LoL ... I didn’t know Piers Morgan rode a bike.
Spot-on Andree! Very nice in-depth analysis of the bike.
Very happy to hear that Stephen! I wish you many thousands of happy miles with it!
I've got an old lady like yours here in Spain, and I'm incredible happy. Totally agree with the "smiles per thousand euros". Enjoy your rides and thank you for your video!
It’s the bike that keeps on giving! And that keeps on getting better with every farkle!!
Hi Andy - great vid on our bikes well done. UK based, I own a 2010 FZ1S (ABS) version with the following mods. My point is, give me a shout if you ever want to chat or know more about any of them.
- Yoshimura exhaust
- R&G plate holder
- Red stripes rim wheels
- Hugger front and back wheel
- New levers (with 6 options of comfort)
- Gear indicator digital counter
- Heated grips same as yours
- Better screen for my height (6 foot)
- Crash bungs on wheels and engine
- Extra bodywork / panels on both sides, really good for protecting my legs in winter and I prefer the look. Plus a Givi top box frame (not fitted as I don’t need it)
- Comfort seats, rider and pillion
- Braided hoses
- K&N filter
- Alarm
- Light bulbs extra powerful, great at night
- Ivan chip I think (done before I bought it, which explains why I have no issues whatsoever with acceleration input)
- Kaoko FZ1 throttle control bar end, really good for my 55mile each way long commute
- Integrated GPS from handlebar to battery
- Battery optimiser plug and brand new battery, which has helped my morning routine of not worrying about the battery
Thanks Fernando. Thats a well equipped FZ1 mate!!
Há - cheers. If you do any type of motorway work, check out the Kaoko throttle control. Simple and easy addition, through replacement of their bar end for the stock one. I’m surprised how much I enjoy that mod more than even the Yoshimura exhaust.
Interesting tip, thanks. I do try to avoid the motorway, but sadly it’s often unavoidable!
My pleasure, thanks for watching! It truly is an unbeatable bang-for-buck machine. ENJOY!!
I literally traded up from the versys to the fz1 yesterday. That is insane lol
Im looking to do this same trade
I've owned a few bikes, recently picked up a 05 FZ1 with 3k miles! Very comfortable bike to ride all day. Nice power.
I couldn't agree more!
Not hard to imagine mate! I can imagine that will be me in 30 years! Maybe just not quite as quick!
Very cool! Congratulations and prepare to have a lot of fun on that bike! 🤙🏼
One of the very, very best m/cycle reviews I've ever seen.
Thank you most very kindly indeed!
own my FZ1 for 2 years now .did 10.000 km on it no problems.and Im a happy man !
Congratulations! It's a great bike, no doubt.
Hello, I follow the channel in Portugal, I bought a fz1, 2 months ago and ...... it's a beast.Jesus Christ.wat aggressive bike. I love it
Congratulations! Keep enjoying your awesome bike Jorge! 😎
Usual top drawer vlog by the master. 33:34 minutes of pure quality. 👍
I'm sure you could make a vlog on watching paint dry an entertaining experience!
Haha! Thanks MrC! I’m not quite sure how I would do it, but I very much appreciate your faith in me mate!
Not a patch on my FZS 1000 , which does the R1 engine lol
Next you’ll be saying you’ve got the ‚fast‘ yellow one?!
Gotta make it like you want it!
Cheers.
Cheers Richard. Glad to hear that, thanks mate! I hope you're still enjoying the hell out of the bike!
I've just bought a 2013 fz1, insurance fully comp no claims protected for 95 quid. Excellent
Get in! I wish my insurance was that cheap! I may have to have another shop around. Especially as I’ll be hitting 40 this year!!
What a great edit and production. Thanks for putting the time in Andy.
Thanks Dan and my pleasure!!
My pleasure Charles and congrats on the new bikes! I think I read somewhere that you can even buy complete kits to convert to the naked version.
Im currently riding a Versys 650 and i want to upgrade to a FZ1 so... thank you very much!
Absolutely my pleasure! It's hard to resist these old beasts!
I have changed the tires on my Versys 1000 to the Michelin 5. Very happy with them!
I run them on my Versys 650, they transformed the handling on it, super lively and responsive, and godly grip in both dry and wet. I'm on my 2nd set.
I'm on my second set of Road 5s on my MT10, great tyres
How many kms did you get on your first set of 5s?
@@Ray0155401 About 6000 miles or 9500 km
About 7000mi, so a hair over 11k kms.
Great vid, currently driving 2008 fz1n non abs, previous was a 2009 fz6n abs, was nervous about the move up but definitely worth it. Hard to beat a fz1n
I totally agree! Not much not to love about these machines.
Brought one (06 10,000 miles) then watched this, now feeling a bit chuffed with myself now.. Going to change the rotor first.
Did this ferry across Rhine once and was swung across by an upstream cable! Real clever no motors involved just flow of river. Steered by ferry and flow of water. Oh, bike looks great
The oldies are the besties! Cheers Mate!
Depends entirely on your style i suppose. My CB1000R seems like a good balance between the two.
I just got back from the Black forst 1800 miles round trip on a triumph street triple . Before i left replaced the seat for comfy seat wouldn’t of help much so bough a add on air cushion seat . Made a big difference all so puts your seat highs so not so cramped.
I’ve got an old air cushion seat that I need to make a new cover for at some point. But before it fell apart it was brilliant!
Brilliant review Andy, and thank you for helping me decide on whether to take the punt on the FZ1.. Far and away your analogy is spot on and a very appreciated opinion. Ride safe as always!!
Thanks very much! My pleasure entirely. Although this bike just sells itself!
Yeah you're correct regarding the fuelling. It is right that the injectors turn off during throttle off occasions, that's how all fuel injection systems work. You can adjust the tip in fuel values when opening the throttle when the ECU is remapped. That will smooth out initial throttle applications.
Sadly not really a feasible option here in Germany as remaps have to be ‚certified‘ to show that they don’t negatively affect the emissions 🤦🏻♂️
@@AndyManCam really? How are they going to know that the ECU has had it's values changed?
When they do the emissions check, as part of the bi-annual inspection 🧐
I added a FI 2000 aftermarket ECU which trickles a small amount of fuel constantly and reduces fueling snatchiness by 70%+-. It dropped my mileage per tank full from 165 miles to 135 miles. But totally totally worth it!
Haha! Smiles per gallon is what counts!!
My lasting impression of the last half hour is, simply, of a superb, comprehensive and articulate review, Andy, and I now have an unexpected urge to buy (and farkle) one. That was thoroughly enjoyable too. Thanks mate 👍
Thank you most kindly Keith. It is a heavily farkleble machine! And all on a relatively low budget!
Cheers mate! That's a toughie! I regularly go through phases of thinking about trading in for a Triumph!
Wow, amazing review... really good quality everything, congratulations man. Your British accent along with the metric system talk sounded odd but so, so satisfying :). Can't believe I've watched a 30 min review without getting bored and even being surprised it ended so quick. You've just got a new subscriber ;)
Many thanks Catalin! Happy to hear that it wasn't too long and boring! :D
I'm definitely getting one fz1n soon as possible. Another great video Andy keep going 👏
You’ll not be disappointed! Such an underrated bike!
Than you very mutch :) Vielen dank fur das geile video :)
Gern geschehen Gregor! Danke furs zuschauen!
Sorry about that! 😳 I can totally understand the happiness though! It’s an awesome machine and I’d still be happy with it if I’d kept mine!
Very very good Review with detailed explanations 👍👍👍
Allzeit gute Fahrt Brudi 🤟✌
Many thanks Miki. My pleasure! Ride well!!
Only looking at this because there was one beside me at the ferry from the NW200... 204bhp at the rear wheel... running a supercharger, what a sleeper!
Nice review Andy. Very professional 👍
I had a 2007 FZ1 in yellow/black.
(and I’ve had a few!)
Ride safe mate.😉
I never found mine at all thirsty. Nearly 200 miles to a tank every time! But i didn’t have the fuelling changed very much!
Most certainly agree, get the best tyres possible, don't worry about cost. Spiteful first gear a retuning can calm it . Ktm 1290 was my next
Also agree. I messed about with TuneECU and that helped a lot. Much more room on a 1290!
Hi Floyd, would you recommend this bike for daily driving in the city? Mainly for work?
In the city i found it a bit hot and a bit hard work because of the really long first gear. It can certainly do it, but there are better city commuters out there. Though if you’re ‚enduring‘ the city commute so that you’ve got a weekend weapon, then it’s definitely worth it!
Just discovered your channel whilst browsing, as I have recently added a 2011 FZ1-N to my collection, would like to say how improve we are with your video's, the Swiss tour looks fantastic on the HD TV,( I traveled Switzerland in a truck many times, and never really considered returning but now with have another tour destination, on our bucket keep up the good work,
Thanks Dave and welcome to the channel! I can’t recommend getting back to Switzerland on the bike enough! Bikers paradise with bells on!
Haha! Quite possible after my copper grease Artexing endeavours during the fitting! 😂😂
Guy knows his stuff - subbed.
Cheers Tim, welcome to the Team!
Just bought a 2010 today with a couple of mods, I'm moving up from a zx6r and I'm bricking it 👍
Ah, you’ll be fine! It only goes crazy when you really want it to!
@@AndyManCam that'll be right the FZ1 is easy to ride... fast when you need it laid back other times
Andy cam i Just love that english commentary. Nice video. Now I got fz1 pumping thru my veins. I need to get one.
Hi Andy, great video and Yammy, I have a 2007 FZ1 S that I have had since new, gel seat is a good upgrade, left mine stock except for seat, and just ride it, underated bike, R1 for old blokes.
Thanks Meister! Totally agree! It's an old sports bike in an orthopaedic frame! :D
Nice machine I’ve been binge watching your videos very informative as well as entertaining
Cheers RTS! She's a real weapon! Oldy, but a goody!
Good stuff as always. Keep on telling us things!
Cheers Chris! I will do my very best!
Great review mate. As always you're a natural in front of the camera. Always enjoyable to watch. Regards from Melbourne.
Thanks Craig, kind of you to say so mate. Cheers!!
@@AndyManCam I have a fully black one, its realy an amazing bike (also my first bike) i remember shitting my pants the first time ive driven it.
That sounds very trick mate! 😍 Yeah I’m living in Germany. My German wife didn’t want to leave and I’m punching above my weight already so… 😜
@@AndyManCam good to hear. Are u ex mil???
Not quite, only by association! My dad was Army. The closest i got was Air cadets! 😂
@@AndyManCam lol 😂. I did the air cadet thing also. 485 Squadron Harbourne & Quinton. Went up in the gliders & the Chipmunks at RAF Shawbury & Cosford
I've bought a Bagster seat from Polo for my Suzuki 750 Naked. Best bike related investment ever. You should look into one.
Not a bad tip. cheers. I'll see what they have available.
(and the fines are not funny at all)
What you can do for some more height is get your seat reapolsterd with some extra padding. A mate of mine (195ish) did this with his GSX-R. and it cost him around 100euro's at a shop. The seat is about 2cm higher now.
Was thinking of doing the bars aswell, althought seeing you do it, made me move it to a wintertime upgrade (and replace my heavy clutchcable at the same time...)
Do doubt if I will bring my ECU to Nippon bikes this summer holiday or in the winter aswell.
I think the Flash is definitely the way to go. I'm not bothered about more power or higher redline, but a smoother running engine would be the ideal.
@@izaya8986 waar kan je die flash doen? En hoeveel kost dat? Ik zie steeds dat je juist een pc nodig hebt nadat je de ecu geflashed hebt

It is also very impressive to travel along to so many exciting and different places. No one else does that! I enjoyed the fact that at times you included your parents along for the ride! I would like to be DMC (Danny Man Cam) for a day! All the best to you and Mrs. AMC!
You’re too kind. Thanks very much Dan. You’re welcome any time DMC! 😉
Just bought a fz6. Really excited!
I had an Arrow alloy slip on the FZ which also eliminated the EXUP valve an I still think it was one of the hottest sounding 4 cylinders I’ve ever heard, sounded so angry 😁🤟🏻
www.ivansperformanceproducts.com/fce.htm
You mean the FCE? I've read a lot about it and they're no longer available except for used ones. Seems they did a great job but I don't like the idea of cutting into ECU wiring. I'd worry about the further reduced ground clearance from dropping the forks. It's already pretty low! I've got a 30mm jack up kit on the shelf, but I'm worried that the forward lean of the seat will be too much to bear! Also the centrestand wouldn't work anymore as the rear is already only 10mm off the ground due to the 55!
Yup the FCE, from memory it used those splicing clips, none the less it was nerve wracking but the reward was in the riding 👍🏻
So i have read. I think I’ll be trying somewhat more drastic/less choppy methods!
Furry muff 😁👍🏻
I am about to get my hands on an MT10 after giving it a test ride about a month ago. Yes, it is bonkers, eats fuel like there is no tomorrow, but for me the looks, the sound, the handling all ticked the right boxes. Not too fond of the looks of the FZ1N myself, and the CP4 of the MT10 sounds just so much better for me. Moving up from a TDM900 it is fair to say I am somewhat used to the throttle being snatchy, so honestly it does not bother me at all. However, the FZ1 is a much more sensible (and a hell of a lot cheaper) option, also cheaper to run :)
To each his own, glad you like your FZ1n ;) Thanks for the good video, stay being awesome!
You too, and enjoy that beasty! That is some nice low end torque, should be fun to ride! :)
Cheers mate! You've got to get what works for you! No surprises that the MT-10 is so popular! If I could get a CP4 motor in my bike, I'd have it all day long! The sound is BRILLIANT!
I've heard lot's of reports to the same effect DigiByke. Can't argue with those torque numbers!!
I will be picking up the bike next monday, so yeah, fun and games. A LOT of fun :D
Very nice @Itrics! Enjoy the bajonkers out of that beaut!
Thanks very much Fred and welcome to the team! 150 at the wheel is impressive! Good work!
great video andy straight talking no fuss review and now thinking changing blackbird for an fz1 keep up the good work
Cheers Johnny. I can only recommend this bike. Stock, they're a bit rough edged, but theres a real diamond in there!
Excellent video mate
Thanks very much Souhail. Helped by a very excellent bike! 😉
I swear to god this bike is just an FZ8 with bigger cylinder head, same gauges, same engine cover, frame, tail etc
6:04 Good one :D
Also I don't know what your occupation is, or where you lived but I don't know anyone that speaks such perfect and selective English and German... It's genuinely impressive to just listen to you talking
[HUN]AntaresSQ01 the FZ1 came before the FZ8, so wouldn’t the FZ8 be a smaller FZ1? A bit degrading when you say it opposite 😂.
Andy Man Cam I love my FZ1. Not as brutally entertaining as my FZ-10, but fun and fulfilling nonetheless.
Very nice. I’ve always been a little regretful off moving away from that bike!
Great and very informative review Andy! Thank you!
Many thanks Ivo.
.. nicely reviewed - all items coverd & last but not least: how comes your pretty good British pronunciation?! ; ) .. bought a FZ 1 Fazer in "like new condition" 2 weeks ago and couldn´t ride it for a single meter till now ..I keep my fingers crossed for a rapid improvement of these annoying typically British summer conditions in southern Germanys early April .. good luck to you, well done!
I love this bike.
No abs,etc etc .
Just pure bike.
It is possibly the last of the great litre bikes with no gimmicks! Pure riding!
I've managed to put off trying a KTM thus far. Will have to have a go one day!
The KTM does not even remotely compare to the Yamaha in reliability. It's also quite unattractive & not nearly as smooth-running.
Awesome stuff mate! They’re supposed to be extemely agile for their size and they seem to be getting lighter all the time. Congrats and enjoy it!
Thanks man, it's quite a big chunk of money, but I think they hold the price extremly well so apart from enjoyment, I kinda look at it as an investment. What horrible, materialistic view that is, I know! 😬
Haha! That’s when you KNOW that you’re finally a grown up!!
Very nice and informational video. Seriously thinking about buying a -07 model with low mileage.
(Been binge watching a ton of them lately.)
Have you ridden the FZ8? If you have, how would you say this compares?
I bought one three months ago a 2011 Fz1 I love it to death I have some minor modification more than enough horsepower then I'll ever need I've got about 150 horsepower out of the motor right now out of rear end. I want to get the handlebars that he is suggesting.
Congrats on a very cool bike Darren! Enjoy making it your own and have fun out there!
Great review of a "super sleeper", got me "juices" flowing for one of me own!
Thanks Michael. You could do a lot worse than to get one of these fine steeds!

@@AndyManCam Thanks Andy, just to check plugs...
looking forward to more of your chatter on TH-cam :)
Great video! What are you using for audio? Your voice is so clear. Would appreciate if you don't mind sharing.
Thanks! It's a SPES Speedlink lavalier mic, plugged into the Hero6 with the gopro audio adapter. But after that I do a bunch of audio trickery with Davinci resolve, just to bring out that last bit of clarity!
@@AndyManCam thanks for the reply good info.
Happy to help!
