The dance remix is what really pushed this into the charts.
Love the remix ❤
One of the few remixes that I liked.
They should’ve done the remix.
I think it’s the Jack & Rory remix…don’t quote me.
Todd terry remix
There were some killer mixes of this absolute banger over the years. Beautiful voice.
Yes, the Todd Terry mix is way superior to this version. The Rob Squad had a nice trio of songs for female Friday and this was the best of the three. Sadly, still waiting on some Dale Bozzio and Missing Persons.
The Todd Terry Remix is the definitive version of this song.
Personally I prefer this original version. I’ve never been a fan of remixes, especially dance remixes. I prefer how the song was originally intended to be. If it was meant to be a dance song I feel it would have started as a dance song. The soft, touching parts get lost in a dance mix.
Paul Oakenfold did a great one in 2008.
This girl has such a beautiful voice. I came across them in the early '90s and have never been disappointed in any of their music. He's got a great voice too. It's worth your while to hear a few more. Amber will love pretty much everything they do.
Missing ....YES guess what. the genius remix that has enlighted the track...Todd Terry what a man
They have been charting in the Uk since 1983 rheir early work was very eclectic from folk to jazz and very recently released an album of new material this year
They became synonymous with electronic and drum and bass sound of the 90s .
Tracy Thorns voice is sublime and over the years has taken on a huskier deeper tone
That first guitar riff is my favorite part of this song.
This is my group can't believe yall stumbled on them
This song came out in 1994. There are numerous mixes of it. You picked one of the dance mixes.
Hey guys! Just as other posters have said, the dance remix of this song was the big hit for Everything But The Girl. Both versions have great qualities. Personally, I prefer the dance remix. The videos for both songs are practically identical. But if you're so inclined, I highly recommend you guys checkout the dance remix of this song. It's a moody banger. Peace. 🕊 Edit: it's listed as the Todd Terry remix.
You've got to check out..The Sundays..Wild Horses...ya gonna love it!!!
90's suggestion - "Lucky Love" by Ace Of Base.
You should check out Tracy Thorn with Massive Attack - Protection
Her voice on “Protection” by Massive Attack is sublimely beautiful. As a matter of fact, ANY SONG by Massive Attack is worth a listen!!!
I hope they do Massive Attack soon. MA has beautiful songs and Trip Hop is a bit underrepresented here.😉
Yeah think they would love that whole trip hop Bristol vibe, Portishead as well. Protection is such a great track.
It's been years since I heard Protection, and recently listened to a remastered version - wow! Definitely recommend as a follow-up to this song!
Yep any song
@@modaud358 100%
This is from their 1994 album, Amplified Heart. A dance remix became a pretty big radio and dance floor hit a year or so after.
That album doesn't have a bad song on it.
@@flinx649Right? My favorite being "Troubled Mind."
WOW! This song reminds me of my best friend, Ann Brady, who died of stage 4 breast cancer at the age of 46, March 15, 2001...out on the dance floor.
RIP Ann.
Thank you for the memories.
k smooch 😙😙
❤
No... This is the 90's...
So sorry for your loss ❤
So sorry. Tracey actually wrote this about her childhood friend.
I always loved the dance remix of this song because it was such a contrast between upbeat rhythm/bass and her calming/soothing voice. It was like a trance❤
Awesome song to rave dance to the dance remix
There's the regular version and a dance version of this song. Both are good
Agreed. Usually, I have a strong preference, but they did a great job with both arrangements.
Yes both versions are fantastic
I'd love to see you guys react to New Order- Bizarre Love Triangle. They layering of the synths is incredible. You'd really dig it! They were huge in the UK in the 80s.
Great song and a big hit that most Baby Boomer/Gen Xers will know. I’m actually surprised that J & Amber haven’t reacted to it already (they previously did “Blue Monday” and “True Faith”). ✌🏽
Tracy Thorn also did guest vocals with Massive Attack. Check out the song "Protection".
Came here to say this. She was such a great addition to those Trip Hop bangers.
Yes! I was going to suggest this one! It's on my eternal playlist.
The Todd Terry Remix took it to another level - dance wise: Similar Dance Style: Tyler Collins "Girl Night out", Kristine W "Feel What You Want", Billy Ray Martin "loving arms" "whos gonna lift you up", Staxx "Joy", Livin' Joy - "Dreamer", Aretha Franklin "Deeper Love", Crystal Waters "100% pure love"
They definitely need to do Kristine W one of these days. She's almost completely unknown out of the dance clubs, but has something like 15 #1 hits on the club chart. Feel What You Want would be an excellent starting point.
It is one of the best remixes of a song. Interestingly, since it doesn't veer to far away from the original. (I usually prefer covers that go a completely different direction). But somehow, Todd Terry managed to improve upon the original mix.
Nah it sucked
The Todd Terry remix is the only way I can listen to this sing. Every ither version sounds like something is missing.
FANTASTIC that you finally got to Everything But the Girl! The entire Amplified Heart album this is from is an absolute stunner!
This is a remix. The original is much better
This is certainly a lighter version. I like the original better too.
I have the remix in my playlist!!
EBTG is phenomenal. Smooth pop with Tracy Thorne's soothing voice. Songs like "Driving", "Cross My Heart," and "Come Hell Of High Water" are some of there 80's hits. The dance mix of this song made it a worldwide hit!
Tracy has a beautiful voice... I have 4 of their albums.
@@flinx649 I'm still looking for "Eden" an early album from approximately 1984.
Her stuff with Massive Attack is phenomenal too
“Driving” would be my choice for Female Friday because it’s an accessible record for the RJR audience. On top of that, it’s a great song. “Apron Strings” is another favorite. ✌🏽
@@pietzsche As is her vocal on The Paris Match by The Style Council.
You'd LOVE their song Apron Strings, about motherhood. It was used in the John Hughes film She's Having a Baby starring Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern.
I loved that movie ! The soundtrack was so good too, especially Kate Bush's "Woman's Work". 🥰
Agreeeed
My intro to EBTG. Great song and vocal.
this was a 90s banger, we that grew up in that time danced to lots of killer remixes of this song. It was kind of vibe that related to a category called "trip hop" that has a hypnotizing quality to it... you should try reacting to massive attack's "unfinished sympathy", portishead "only you" and morcheeba "tape loop"
They got their name from a sign in a store that said "Everything for Sale, But the Girl." They started out as kinda folksy laid back music until the song Missing got remixed and became a worldwide smash. After this they decided to start experimenting in dance music and became even more successful. Check out their amazing cd TEMPERAMENTAL.
The next song you should listen to by them is “Driving”. You won’t regret it!!!
Yes indeed, "Driving" is so so cool. And totally different than this track.
Oh, yes! “Driving” is another fave on the Amplified Heart album. Really wonderful album in its entirety.
This is a song that I can remember the EXACT moment that I heard the dance remix of it! It was February, 1996, it was on a Saturday. I was driving to a friends house, and I was at the intersection of Northfield Parkway and Long Lake Rd in Troy Michigan (where I grew up). I was 17 years old and I remember thinking "this song is amazing!" and wanted to listen to it again and again and again. I can still remember looking at of my car and seeing all the snow on the ground and picking the desert and the warm weather when she said "like the deserts miss the rain."
I the same in 1996 listening to the same song only I was 16 in 1996😉. I remember listening to this song outside under the stars on a April evening in 1996 with my teenage friends.
Your like me! Memory so clear it like a time warpe.
Tracey Thorn just reminds me a bit of Annie Lennox. They both have that alto smooth voice but also have good range. This is definitely a 90s song; like a slow dance/rave song, especially the remix. Another song that I love of theirs is from one of my favorite Val Kilmer movies "The Saint". The song is "Before Today". Another song that has a good beat but also good to just chill with. 😎👍
Oh, my, YES to _Before Today_ , especially some of the live versions out there.
She sounds like a mix between Annie Lennox and Sade
Her voice always reminds me of Lisa Stansfield…just more chilled out.
One of their other big hits here in the UK was a version of the Rod Stewart song, 'I Don't Want To Talk About It', which was 7 years before 'Missing'. Her voice shines in that.
True, I love that version
The whole album is worth a listen.
yep
Whoa. Crazy cosmic stuff happening. I pulled out this disc after i don't know how long (years) and had it going in the car TODAY. Was thinking "Rob Squad needs to react to this!" Jaw hit the floor when it popped up on my screen. EBTG formed in the 80s, made quite a few albums but this song is FIRMLY planted in the 90s ('94 to be precise). It got remixed by TODD TERRY and became a MASSIVE club hit. This group was well ahead of it's time. The 90s (and house music) arrived and they were a perfect fit. I don't think they even saw that coming. Many more songs to take in from EBTG. And Tracey's solo stuff! Check out the remix ...
Yes, they formed in the early 80's but this song was released mid-90's.
Hey thanks for the reaction. But the version of this song must be for the Todd Terry remix.
th-cam.com/video/IAkY5m00rpY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=5JRdjrpyVIDEiwyU
Anything EBTG is dope!Ben Watt as a DJ/producer is incredible and paired with Tracys Thorne's voice makes all their beats and music just total ear candy
THANK YOU, THANK YOU THANK YOU. I am so glad you are doing EBTG. They have a great body of work from the 80s through the 90s (at least ten albums). I LOVE MARRIED COUPLES THAT PERFORM TOGETHER. Please play more. You will not be disappointed.
One of the better 90’s offerings! Love the moody vibe of this song.
This takes me back to the nineties, European electronic music, and trip-hop groups like Portishead and Tricky. Also makes me think of the movie Trainspotting. Good song. Good reaction.
A great duo who have been together as a couple for decades as well. That's something that you don't hear about too often. They took a break while raising their children, but came back to make more music together.
A Classic!!! Reminiscent of Lisa Stansfield...
Her voice reminds me of Sade.
This is one of my all time faves. As mentioned, the dance remix is also killer
Everything But the Girl named after a clothing shop in England 🏴
Love the bass and the cowbell beat ! One-hit wonder in the states from 1995. Everything But The Girl name came from a store in England. For female Friday, how about a reaction to Expose "Come Go With me" or "What You Don't Know". Thanks. 😎
This song was everywhere when it came out. Moody atmospheric gem of the mid 90's.. The dance remixes breathed new life into the song compared to the understated original. Still gr8! Wish the people who recommended it got song specific when other versions that are superior exist that actually put it on the map. You can only take a cowbell for so long. lol mooo
Love this song. It is been a while but I used to listen to this a lot in the early 2ks. The version I used to listen to was more electronica (same singer). There is another song called Stay (I Missed You) by Lisa Loeb. It is a different type of song but from either the late 90s or 2000s. It is a beautiful and fun song.
I haven't heard this song for at least 20 years. It brings up a lot of memories.
This is an early to mid 90s UK hit all the way! The dance version is a billion times better too
Another great song for female friday or just in general is Anggun-Snow on the sahara is the song or Tasmin Archer-sleeping satellite. Both great songs
For nearly 40 years I've thought she has the best voice in pop music. Like Fleetwood Mac the songs are almost always about her "relationship" with Ben. This marked their first foray into more electronica. Please try previous ones where her voice carries everything. Quite spectacular.
This reminded me!
Missing Persons!! You have never covered this band for female Fri! Dale Bozzio in her saranwrap jacket was the inspiration for lady gaga! With classic 80's pop hits; Destination Unknown, Words, Noticeable One, Windows, Walking in LA!!!
Got to check out Dale Bozzio of Missing Persons! She is the bomb! And certainly unique with the squeek in her voice like in song: Words. No one else like her!!!🎉🎉🎉
One of my very favorite bands. Her voice soothes my soul.
you need to do Tracey Thorn 'Apron Strings"... such a beautiful song!
This song is a GEM !! The Club Re-mix is a total Jam, Jay would make it a work out song for the beat... It's smokin
AMBER&JORDAN
(JAY)
please react to
"THE POWER" by the 1990 musical group..
SNAP!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Where's Soul Train when you need it? Come on Amber and give these awesome soul singers some love at least once.... Check out Stephanie Mills hits "I Feel Good All Over" " Comfort Of A Man" and the duet with Teddy Pendergrass "Feel the Fire" Still waiting on you to do other awesome soul singers like Phyllis Hyman(Living All Alone) and the most powerful singer Jennifer Holliday(And I'm Telling You) Betty Wright "No Pain No Gain" Lisa Fisher "How Do I Ease the Pain" Sylvia "Pillow Talk" Angela Winbush "Angel" Evelyn Champaign King "Shame"
Tracey Thorn's voice is beautiful and warm. You should really check out her collaboration with Massive Attack on a song "Protection". It really is a masterpiece. For a more acoustic experience of Tracey Thorn, check out her own album Distant Shore.
You guys should definitely check out the band Black Box and the song "Everybody Everybody." I like the Le Freak mix of that song.
Killer song - totally part of the background music of my young adulthood - becoming a grown-up in the Bay Area in the 1980's, Everything But the Girl on repeat.....
Still waiting for you guys to hit Joan Osborne - One of Us, Ladder, St Teresa, Right Hand Man...I think you'd really enjoy her music.
They are a super talented married duo. Their music got more electronic in the 90s. Please listen to 'You Don't Have to Go' and 'Do You Ever Wonder?' by Alison Moyet. You know her voice from Yazoo.
Tracey and Ben, the couple in the video, and the EBTG duo, just released a new album after a 24-year break - maybe react to the first single from it "Nothing Left to Lose"
The Todd Terry Remix is a wayyyyyyyy better version.
Christina Aguilera - Ain't No Other Man - Candy Man (Both Great Horns !!) Also - Lady Marmalad
Annie Lenox (Eurythmics) - Would I Lie to You - I Need a Man - Thorn in My Side
Gwen Stefanie - It's My Life - What You Waiting For
Shikira - When ever Where ever - Objection Tango
Head Pins - Don't it Make You Feel (like Dancing) - Turn it Loud - Just One More Time
Toronto - Your Daddy Don't Know - Start Telling the Truth
I've gotten in the habit of hitting the Like button the moment I start the video - because I know it's gonna be good. Y'all are awesome.
GOTTA DO THE REMIX that really sent this song into stratosphere. But this is late 90s.
Aqua - Turn Back Time 👍👍👍
The song actually came out in 1994 and not the 80s. The club version of this is a bit faster, and very cool.
I’m so pumped you guys finally did this one. I know I sent in a suggestion for it for the female Friday. They are so talented. You should check out “wrong” “mirrorball” and or another favorite of mine “ Driving “.
Now that you`ve found this, then next weeks Female Friday just has to be Portishead...
This is not my type of music, but this song has lived in my head since the 90s. I go back and listen to it at least once a year.
I don't really rate this mix at all. The other one by Todd Terry is an absolute killer! Please react to it. The song reminds me of a particular person.....
Yes, the dance version is much better. This song came out 93/94, a good choice. 🤙🤙🤙
Dance remix of Celine Dionne's It's All Coming Back To Me Now.
Haven't heard this song in years! Thought the title was something else! LOL! I thought it was I Miss You.
This version is my favorite. Thanks for reacting.
Please please do the pink floyd comfortably numb live version from the pulse concert in earls Court 1994 it's a amazing momma will absolutely love it its miles better than the studio version ❤
You should have reacted to the remix version, which made this song a worldwide hit. The original version is good, but after the dance one, we don’t even remember that there is a slower and original version of it. 😂
This song came out 1994. It's a banger. Try the Todd Terry remix!
Favorite 90's song. Came out when i just broke up with someone and he moved away.
please please please do my FAVORITE song by them *NO DIFFERENCE* - Everything But The Girl
This is such a bamger. The dance mix is what made me hear the song initially one of the few remixes of a song that were better than the orginal.. Reminds me of my childhood 🎉
this was written after Ben nearly died from an autoimmune disease, you will notice how very thin he is in the video and them trying to find each other again. my favorite group of all time. ♥
He wrote a book about his ordeal. He had to have about 15 feet of his small intestine removed and was on a restricted diet.
Brilliance from a brilliant group. No-one with a better voice than Tracy Thorn in music today. May I recommend I Must Confess from their first album, Eden?
OH HELL YEAH. check the remix 2
FEMALE FRIDAY REQUEST
IN THIS MOMENT
BIG BAD WOLF!!!!
This is the slow version guys … which is good but listen to the club remix one … that’s the banger one …
Somehow I don't think I've ever heard the original version of this. I remember the dance version being massive and on all the compilation albums I used to buy around that time.
As many have already mentioned, the Todd Terry Remix of ths track is absolutely killer and was part of the Soundtrack of my University days....
As others have mentioned, “Driving” by EBTG is a great tune. Also, check out Tracy Thorne as the female lead on The Style Council’s “Paris Match.” Her voice with that Bossa Nova/jazzy style from Paul Weller and Mick Talbot always puts me in a mellow mood.
❤️
Never heard this amazing song! Gave me a bit of Sade vibes! Great reaction, thanks! ✌💙✌
Vocally, totally agree
I love Everything But The Girl. I own all their albums on CD up until "Walking Wounded". The first EBTG song I heard on the radio was "Cross My Heart". But for me their album "Worldwide" and "The Language of Life" are my favorites. The songs in these two albums like "Understanding", "Talk To Me Like The Sea", "British Summertime", "One Place", "Love is Strange", "Twin Cities" in the former and "Driving", "Get Back Together", "Meet Me In The Morning" and "Take Me" from the latter album resonates with me a lot and reflect what I consider the best era of their musical journey. I also love their cover of the Rod Stewart song "I Don't Wanna Talk About It" and the Paul Simon song "The Only Living Boy In New York" from their Home Movies The Best of EBTG album. You should check them out. "Amplified Heart" was a more mature album basically a product of the evolution of their music after years of adversity and came much later after Ben Watt underwent surgery for his illness and marked a change in the direction of their music from folk/pop jazz to a more synth, rave dance music oriented one.
You guys need to check out the Todd Terry remix, it is the bomb!
If you'd like a different side to this band, try their debut hit, the jazzy Each and Every One. It's a favourite of mine.
Todd terry version transformed this already incredible song into another league and has to be heard
I feel this is the right time to recommend "Massive Attack"...Tracy collaborates with them on the track "Protection", which is gorgeous, but they have so many amazing hits! "Teardrop", "Unfinished Sympathy"...and many more!
*** I always Liked Their Sound.
I totally know this song! I never knew the title or artist 😂 thanks! ❤
British 90's music is so so good so many funky band's with that funky trance electro sound. Smashing!
She reminds me another UK singer Lisa Stansfield
I was just thinking the other day how I hadn’t heard this song in years! I remember taping this off the radio in the nineties and being completely obsessed with it. ❤
