You know a unit is bad when I completely forgot scion Julia was a thing. Seriously she’s the only one in her class without a prf? At least when Niime did it the inheritable was good.

Like does it matter that they can teleport if they can’t really do anything else? Unless you’ve invested into them, what are they gonna do for you? Granted, Julia’s not really much better. I think we have a red vulture tome and those are still pretty nifty. She actually has a useable and good b-skill. She’s just not very exciting. But no way is she the “worst”. Most boring? Yeah I can see that. But she does more than Nowi or Tana that actually matters

I hate for how, with Asc. Ishtar, they were like "what if we give her stuffed animals and put the word Thunderer's in front of her normal weapon's name? That's a brand new unit right?" Plus, Legendary Xander was literally powercrept by Legendary Ryoma who was released 2+ years ago (tho, to be fair, his refine saves him).
Regarding Ishtar... The stuffed animals were honestly a way to visually signify a change in character. Where OG Ishtar was often wavering in her conviction, Ascendent Ishtar has a representation that her efforts to rescue the children were worth it... Perhaps it's the thought of this that gave her some modicum of happiness as she lay dying. Because no matter what, she will die. Regarding her as a unit, all she really needs is an effective special that preferably reduces damage reduction, or removes it. Of course, this hasn't happened yet. No idea if it will either.
@@mcihay246 Ever since I made this post, I actually came to appreciate Ishtar's design a little bit more. Not only are the stuffed animals cute, but you are totally right about how they demonstrated her character development to following her own conviction rather than just listening to Julius all the time. She has a tragic story but it really illustrates what could have been if only she chose a better path.
My experience with Yen'fay comes with facing him in Arena... where both the green units on my team (Eitri and Thorr) can usually kill him. I completely agree, he's unfortunately very overrated and Riev is the real star of GHBs as of late (And worse than Duo Thorr is not a terrible thing to be; I have both and don't regret merging up Riev at all).
The moment you said Yen' Fay I had to take a double take. He has been a great unit in my wind season core. I will admit that speed creep is always ridiculous, but honestly I haven't had too many problems with it thus far. Maybe that's why he's still putting in work for me.
@@FEH Honestly he is still a pretty decent unit, not amazing but you can easily make him work. Priam on the other hand... he was realeased at the same time as Yen'fay, has a worse weapon, worse stats, and is 5 star locked. I'm quite surprised you didn't mention him at all, ngl
Yen'fay is also the only really f2p unit on this list, which makes him easier to merge up (via copies or grails). He's not super strong (f2p aren't ever "broken") but he can do work with good investment.
L!Fae was the prototype to make L!Myrrh a good unit with all the things L!Fae could possibly hope for: Actual utility and a dual phase auto-double to actually be able to kill on player phase (notably important for SD)
I’ve seen people try to have Fae as a juggernaut in Summoner Duels, but she’s really not that offensively threatening, I just put a bulky unit in front of her and she can’t do anything, cause she probably dies if she attacks, or at least accomplishes nothing.
Glad to see the yen'fay shoutout. I was surprised to see people hype him up so greatly when his prf seemed to lacklustre. Sad about scion!julia though. Weird they gave her a B prf and no prf weapon.
I don't know why I never invested in him, even though I was excited that we got a decent GHB. But once I saw Yen'fay in arena do 0x2 to my baby Minerva I knew that this unit was overhyped. Nowadays flat damage and damage reduction does little to a unit, they need a niche otherwise they just drown..
Normal Corrin imo. He doesn't buff himself but his support partner,he's so bad they give you a free copy if you bought the FEH pass,also the buff is mediocre at just +4 to all stats 😪
I started working on Yenfay but ended up stopping cause I noticed that I haven't been using him nearly as often as I thought so I got this +7 guy with premium skills just sitting in my barracks. That's why I'm now saving up my grails and resources until I'm sure there's a grail unit I want and can instantly +10.
I have none of these 5 thankfully. I did get Yen fay to +10 and I can totally agree with your comments on him. I still use him for arena but he does nothing to beat the never ending supply of dual Dagr and ninja Corrin.

As someone who has been using Duo Sothis at +6 for a while in arena, I think their duo skill, although not the greatest, is a pretty decent utility since it gives null follow up to anyone within 2 spaces and its not locked to movement types or a specific season. The times pulse has found some use in getting bonus unit kills at times, especially when i'm forced to use barely invested tt units or barely invested askr trio to get those kills. Also something random to point out, Constance was released shortly after Scion Julia, another red speedy tome flier with atk/spd push 4. And Constance has a prf while julia for some reason doesn't.
I unfortunately do not have audio or auto generated captions as of now, but I will defend Duo Sothis for actually having potential (Though again, unsure if you defend anything I say haha). Their Duo skill is really solid, though with stuff like Inf NFU less so (but every other turn NFU from their duo skill is great since its speed based on all units) And their stats are just the issue base Sothis has, but to a lesser degree. But with more merges and such, they really use every stat insanely well. The +10 ones I face are insanely strong and tanky too. But out of the box, yeah she isn't anything crazy, especially if you can't use the NFU from Duo Hinderance and such. I can see them down there especially with Duo Dagr, Harmonic Lysithea, Duo Chrom etc coming in the months after
The biggest thing was comparing them to the other duos. The duos this year have been BONKERS. She was just good. I won’t argue that with a lot of investment, she can be very formidable, though.
Duo Sothis was the biggest disappointment for me. The Halloween banner was one of my favorites for its designs, so I picked up all the units on it when it came out (which was also close to when I started playing FEH). I didn't know enough then to be able to judge a unit's strength by their kit and just trusted that Duo unit = good. But yeah, it was pretty quickly apparent she had issues. Even while the banner was still running Grima was the clear standout (who is still a mainstay on my teams), with even Rhea being arguably better. She's got a lot of issues: Dragon's Wrath isn't actually that great of a skill (20% DR is nice, but not enough esp. since it's only the first hit), DC in weapon doesn't have much place in the meta for flyers, having her NFU locked behind a Duo Skill limits usefulness in AR, etc. IMO the biggest issue though is her flying movement; having a built-in weakness to bows is terrible for an Enemy-Phase unit without Vantage or similar gimmick. You're forced to choose between Iote's shield to cover for this or just get more stats to cover her issue there. She'd have been better off as an armor or even infantry unit. Unfortunately, most of her issues are "baked in" to her design, so I don't have high hopes for them being fixed in the distant future when she gets a Duo Remix/refine. Similar with Mythic Sothis where I don't see a remix fixing the fundamental issue that her kit clashes completely with her role. They are good at auto-battling admittedly, but generally a unit being good at auto-battling is a bad sign for their overall strength (as we see with Legendary Fae). For Yen'fay, I understand the pick, but to me, I kind of disagree with it. He does everything a good GHB unit is supposed to do. Be a good score bot for Arena that can't compete with the premium units but is still better than those in the 4-star pool. I think the days of GHB units shaking the meta up are over though. Aversa and Kronya can be seen as either mistakes or just a different design philosophy IS had back then; these days I think they're careful not to make FTP or semi-FTP units too powerful (Summer Claude is a little bit of exception to that, but to be fair, he still costs some orbs). Just the 2 cents from a relatively new player, but I think your expectations for GHB strengths are off; they aren't meant to compete with 5-star units, so it shouldn't be surprising when they get outclassed.
With 4 out of the 6 character featured I was like "WHAT???? HOW???" only to end up agreeing with your points, specially with Xander and Yen'Fay, Xander is part of my Sigurd Squad team and does fantastic against most characters and Yen'Fay is a mainstay in my Lunatic Story Mode Questing team, but all of this amounts to nothing when you put them against a Meta team, you just can't win.
Honestly, I'll have to disagree on Yen'Fey... to an extent. Yeah, he isn't beating Duo Chroms (I save that for my OG! Chrom with his follow-up negating Sealed Falchion), but he can tank a *good* bit of units with some proper speed stacking. Mine is +10, max flowers, +atk and +spd via ascendant flower with Aether, Kestral 3, Close Call, Atk/Def menace, and Warding breath seal. He is my dedicated Arena unit for tanking Duo Dagr, Duo Corrin, and other 'nuke' units that can't get past his massive speed stat damage reduction. Waiting for the day I get A!Mareeta and F!Lilith, to achieve maximum DR! Mwahahaha!
I think Yen'fay when he came out was really nice to have, but now he's just kind of overshadowed. There's a lot of annoying good blue units right now including summer claude who is also very easy to merge up that give yen'fay a hard time... with support I think he's good, but as a solo unit he has a lot of bad matchups.
@@Mark-xk3hh Yeah, true. I only really use him in Arena, where he also has the support of OG!Marth with drive spd seal and sometimes OG! Chrom's joint drive spd. IDK, maybe I value Yen'Fey higher because I use none of the meta defining units, and he seems to do fairly well against those threats. But yeah, I just can't invest money into trying to get any of the really broken units nowadays. Hopefully B!Chrom is super broken, because I have 400 or so orbs currently saved up to summon on him.
I can hard vouch for Yen'Fay being overrated. I basically gave him the semi optimal build with just kestrel stance 3 and nfu with all merges and dragonflowers, and he can tank NOTHING. The best matchup he has is against Eitri and he cant even kill her half the time. Of course with vital astra, joint drive spd, and a spd boon he can obviously perform better, but that is too much investment just for him to not be able to tank Duo Chrom. I've since given him double distant guards and I'm contemplating giving him a ruse to go full support for my Ilyana. With my current build, she can tank and kill Duo Chrom (with precharged deadeye btw) and Ninja Corrin.
I can see your points: I don't have L Fae, and while I want her just for collection, I don't see myself using her. Same with Julia, although it was either her of Larcei to be the 5-star that just barely makes the cut, like Summer Mercedes. For Yen'fay, he is a GHB, meaning that he is going to be less powerful than regular units as he is always available in the shop. They wouldn't make a free unit super strong unless they had an answer to make people spend money. The only one I like is Ishtar. Ascended are supposed to be a continuation in their story, and She does this very well. Her kit is definitely boring, but so is A/S Push 4. I say they cant all be winners. I updated my chart I sent before to include 5-stars as well as increased the time to include characters that are 6 months old (about). What did you think of it originally?
I loved Julia cuz it gave my Pelleas a nice tome : ) I understand the sadness for a 5* without an exclusive weapon, but to be fair she has in my opinion the best inheritable red speed based tome, since we dont have a flora guide in red, and the other best alternative is from Valentines Henriette... which has a save skill for fodder.. Yeah i love Julia's tome, but I feel the 5* exclusive blues
Also right after Xander, they released Ymir, which is also green and on horse. I know Ymir is a dragon but you have to admit it's almost the same as an axe cav. Somebody at IS really hate Xander.
They literally should've brought him out either a month after L'Ryoma or the following year. But 4yrs of waiting and the payoff was lackluster at best.
I adore Ishtar. know that she didnt change the game, but she reaches insane levels of atk spd and she quads with it. Just the other day this season, my +1 Ishtar managed to quad and kill a fully invested fully buffed +10 B Ike. And we all know how he works with his DR and also being a green unit vs a blue one. If she gets a drive NFU with ACelica and you put Windsweep on her you can make AR go BRRRR
So ive been thinking thanks to the shitload of green units weve had a lot of blue units have been moved down and while the unit i think should have a refine and remix is still good it needs to be better or it will fall behind greatly. Im talking about L!Chrom, he is still king of movement and shiz but he is no where near as good as he was on relese mainly cuz theres a lot of greens and we have V!Duo Chrom. So i think he should have refine along the lines of. (Acelerate special triger -1) Effective against flying and armored foes. Grants Atk+ 3. If foes HP >25% at start of the combat, converts penalties into buffs on unit and inflicts Atk/Def/Spd -6 on foe during combat. At the start of every turn if unit is not adyacent to any allies -1 to special cooldown. At the start of combat if foe initiates combat or if unit has more Atk than foe, prevent foes garantued follow up atacks, also reduce damege from foes first atk by 80%. To change fate II: Moves target ally to opposite side of the unit and grants another acton to unit. Grants Atk+ 6 to unit and Pair Up cohort (if any) for 1 turn and inflicts【Isolation】on unit and Pair Up cohort (if any) through their next action. (Does not stack) Inflicts Atk/Spd/Def/Res -3 on foes within 3 rows and 3 collums of unit and movement assist target. The only thing i have doubts is that chrom competes with L! Male Byleth wich gives drive null follow up so the follow up blocking effect is neutrulized so im not sure if it should be for the whole combat or if it should stay that way I also thought about giving him plegian effect on his bow wich i think would be very good but i dont want to break him to much. What do yall think???

thats so funny to me that you went after yen fay. i merged him up and all he needs is 1 good support to be broken. i just use astrid because i always use astrid on like every team lol. he carries AR pretty well still. i wish Brunnya was as good as him. i miss using her lol. ive been enjoying LXander too and hes so well rounded and does so much with null follow up i think he's really solid and i like that he feels versatile rather than a specialist. i find he works against more things than he doesnt and his bad matchups are easily covered or ignored by using canto to get away.
Yen'fay is a tough but fair call. I built him up as an arena score bot, but I've been terrified to send him onto the field since launch. He's supposed to take hits, but I'm never confident that he actually can.

I think LCaeda is slightly worse than LXander, mainly because of the season she's in, surrounded by LChrom, LMByleth which are pretty common. LXander has a better chance on fire where he checks most heroes, he's only really outclassed by Eitri (and by Lilina which is frankly the best Fire Legendary but she scores terrible nowadays in T21) but unlike LMyrh at least he got a prf B skill so he scores the highest. Anyway nice top, Yen Fay for a free unit is solid but yeah his archetype really struggles in arena so yeah a massive disappointment.
I don't know what you were talking about at the start, my favorite character was added in 2017 and, being a side character, has nothing but the wishful chance of a second seasonal release. With the way they've been selecting Ascendants, that won't happen either. I feel like there's 4 camps of characters that people typically categorize in their head subconsciously. The first camp contains mostly protagonists, fanservice-y characters that make money, anyone from Heroes, but really anyone that you can say with confidence will definitely be on another banner because they're going to get released multiple times. The second camp contains the characters that somehow have not been added to the game yet, (i.e. Boyd before he got the young alt GHB) despite being popular, important, or have been left out of a group (Seriously, the rest of the Greil Mercenaries were added, how was Boyd LAST) for various unknown reasons. This group is the characters that aren't in the game but are nigh inevitable and even people that may not care about them want them because "it's about time". The third camp are the folks that are already in the game, like the first group, but these are the characters that get their first alt and you go "Oh hey that's neat, but they'll never get another one" because they just aren't as popular or important or are (un)fortunate enough to not be from a game released in 2012 or later. They'll get their seasonal unit and never be seen from again, but more importantly they aren't on anyone's radar for likely options. The fourth camp is just the second camp but the characters you don't expect. These are the characters that are added and you say "Wait but why [Unit A] and not [Unit B]" because they don't seem to be as intuitive of a choice for thematical, popularity, or importance reasons. In a nutshell these are the oddballs that keep blocking the second camp. L!Xander got blocked for so long by these people. This is satire do not come for my throat
I think I would have traded DC for slaying in Yen'fay's prf weapon. Being able to pre-charge Vital Astra with Time's Pulse and then using DC in the A slot is probably a better tradeoff to give him better killing power in both phases.
My play style has always been enemy phase based, so I jumped on Yen’Fay. I thought he would be the perfect upgrade to my OG Ike that was hanging on by the skin of his teeth. (I also used Priam for a month). And my experience with Yen’Fay has been awesome +10, 5 flowers, Summoner support Prf Repo Aether Kestrel Stance 3 Frenzy 3 (I think double dodge is a great build on him, and Frenzy lets him be able to operate on enemy phase to secure a kill on an enemy that lived his counter attack) Atk/Spd Menace (I told my friend group that if I got a free Legendary Nanna I would fodder her to him, I don’t regret it) And Atk/Spd solo 3 seal. He is my Arena carry and the star of my main team for dealing with most content. Now I also have a +10 Bravekeeper, and yeah, I think he belongs here instead. (I know he’s gen 5 technically, but he is a year old, he fits) I get really good use out of him in Aether raids and no where else.
A lot of the newer units are focused on taking on F!Edelgard, there where not a lot of counters when she arrived. Which includes effects that destroy units like Fae sadly. And on top of that the most "counters" still get destroyed by Edelgard, if she is invested (survises with 1 hp, kills the counter, and remeber, heals after every battle), or with poor movement planning.
Actually, Legendary Edelgard does wonders against her. Same with Legendary Dimitri. If you can take the first hit against her with someone, then use L Edelgard, you got it made. With Dimitri, let F Edelgard attack him. Works for me anyways lol

Not to mention Bride Sophia that was released only 6 months after was 10x the tank and unit that Scion Julia was and had a Prf weapon with a great fodder option in Atk/Res hold.
About L!Fae is painfull but true, shes my babydoll counter of F!Edelgard(Fae can defeat +10 F!Edelgard like nothing), i got her +1 because i want the damn Ullr, but she doesnt come to my barracks, dudes, i throw +600 orbs and none Ullr appear, damn it!
I see your point on Yen’fay, but I use him in arena regularly and stay in the 20-21 hell haha he functions extremely well for me, but I know that different people have different experiences for sure
I was really disappointed when Sothis came out because her weapon should have been player-phase oriented. She's pretty mediocre as a tank and bows destroy her. But my most disappointing unit I received this year has to be August. He does absolutely nothing and is definitely outclassed by Lilith's support.
Apart from Julia, I very much disagree. The reasons why they are the worst are so small... Xander has pretty much everything a hero could want, aside from countering sweep weapons, for example. Great stats, amazing damage reduction, canto, NFU, special charge, slaying, healing... he has things that the other cavalry axes heroes don't have, including way more sustainability while still keeping great attacking power. Ishtar is a powerhouse, will kill pretty much everything in player phase, even more so with NFU. Sothis is a great big ball of stats with a great skill and amazing weapon. Slaying, DC, extra stats, no dragon weakness is amazing! Not a big fan of Fae personally, but aside from fatal smoke or brave weapons, she can be very hard to kill.
These are all good units, but they suffer in context. Xander does have a lot of great skills, but in trying to be mixed phase, he doesn’t do any one thing better than the others. You get the Jack of all trades but the master of none. Those units generally don’t age well Ishtar is a good nuke in a sea of good nukes. She just doesn’t stand out, and it’s even more clear when looking at the other ascendants. It’s the same with Sothis. She’s good, but she’s expensive as a seasonally locked unit and she’s so much worse than the other duos.
@@FEH Xander will most likely age better than Dimitri or Roy. For one, they are seasonal, and Xander will show up every 3 months or so for summoning. Being a Jack of all trades is not a bad thing at all. Being able to attack very well on both phases is a great bonus. Sure, there are a lot of ranged nukes, but how many have null guard? Ascended Celica who just came out does, and she is most likely better than Ishtar, but not many do. Furthermore, she has a brave effect, which makes her stand out. Sothis is a great duelist. She has sustain, well rounded stats, her weapon has a lot of great effects. Her duo skill as well has good support capabilities that can fit on any team.
Man all these units are so good, but they just fall short in one important aspect or another. Sothis is pretty much only good at +10 Fae can sweep entire teams, but she can also simply die to first unit that shows up. (I kill her all the time no problem with my BEliwood, and Ylgr. Julia is.... not having a prf weapon is just a death sentence waiting to happen. Her B skill isn't enough to make up for the weapon. Ishtar deals with the simple fact we've all been dealing with Reinhardt for years now. She's stronger sure, but not necessarily a problem. Xander can technically tank really heavy mages. While I don't have him, I do have a unit with similiar Res BEliwood I make survive even +10 Ninjorrin's. So I know it can be done. But like BEliwood he needs heavy investment for those kinds of shenanigans mine is +10 that's just entry level to survive Ninjorrin. Investment like that just isn't easy for someone like Xander. BEliwood is a brave unit and they are among one of the easiest to merge up cause you can guarantee they can show up multiple times a year. Their debut banner, Golden Week, some rando Legendary/Mythic banner mid-year, skill banner, or Anniversary celebration, and for the older Brave Heroes like BEliwood in particuliar they show up in 3 person banners in a set time. Xander on the otherhand is a Legendary Hero and they are among the hardest units to merge up. As well as a part of the ever-growing number of green units. So to get him to do all the same crazy things as a unit who got a refine almost a year ago at this point, and doesn't even have a prf B skill is really expensive. Technically speaking I've ran the cals also and it is possible to get Xander to survive +10 Ninjorrin's as well. But being +10 is the entry level for those kinds of shenanigans. Really that's pretty much been the problem with most enemy phase units that aren't save armors nowadays. They need to be highly merged to actually be valuable. Save armors can get away with little to no merges cause save allows them to specialize on who they want to encounter more easily and are generally more specialized in enemy phasing with some exceptions. Cost to entry for a player phase nuke doesn't even require merges. Player Phasing is more about the skills you have, and only 2 of your stats truly matter with the rest either having no problems being dumped, or if invested into allows you to run more unique setups. This is why nearly every Yuri and DChrom in Summoner Duels leaderboard is copy-pasted from each other.
Not gonna lie, L!Xander is pretty scary against my team for Summoner Duels. But with the most recent nuke shenanigans combined with the mix of lethality and deadeyes, we prefer other units to counter the current meta.
Second comment I make on this video, when I discovered that xander required to be near allies I was extremely angry (I hate that condition) so the fact that he's kind of bad makes me SO HAPPY!!
I'd say for me it is clearly Ascended Celica on No. 1 because I, as many others, expect cool character choices for Ascendeds, that aren't enough for certain other statuses. Then they released Ascended Celica...which already had a Legendary Alt and it is also her fourth normal pool version. So I think she ist the REAL disappointment according to the expectations, therefore even more than Ishtar imo, haha. :D
as much as i love duo sothis, one of my favorite characters, drawn by my favorite artist in the game, i'd have to agree. she's very underwhelming compared to other duos, and while ive gotten her to work pretty well by using iote's shield as her sacred seal, it sucks that you have to use her sacred seal slot for negating the flying weakness instead of other, better things.
One time in AR, I ran into a L!Xander gimmick team that had him surrounded by drive DR units and he still died to one hit of base kit B!Marianne (with Muspell support though)
The issue with yen fay Was mostly that on book 4 and 5 damage reduction was the main bread and butter And there was ALWAYS an omni sword and axe, being able to stop the brave hit of lys on particular and being able to bait duo peony And TBH early book 6 was VERY TAME and his weapon was literally freyja's Prf on a F2P But then OFC Book 6 ended up bringing bonkers units wise and ninjorrin aged SPECTACULARLLY and she got way more common in arena. Also being forced to run null follow up to avoid dog pilling And sadly he arrived JUST on the end of the multispecialist era (Aka dc+dodge) Yes he is the the best at THAT role But now? F for chon'sin
One thing I will say about Acendants. A!Mareeta absolutely revolutionized speed tanks and is helping them come back into the meta. Vital Astra is an amazing special that's allowing for some fantastic build options. It's the soul reason why L!Dimitri is so good right now. Vital Astra is the reason why I can use Resplendant Marth in AR-O As a unit, she's become one of the best raid boss characters in the entire game since speed stacking her is so easy thanks to L!Eliwood and she can even run Godlike Reflexes to absolutely destroy Duo Chrom and other deadeye/lethality users with her weapon and Velocity 3. Plus, she's pretty easy to +10 rn cuz of the ascendant banner that's out right now. I've been able to get mine up to +5 and she has NOT been a disappointment. She may require a bit of investing, but she sets a new standard for Speed DR tanks and is easily one of the most premier options right now. Also she looks SO PRETTY
I do think she stands out more on a Galeforce team. There are several units that outclasses her bulk, but reducing Galeforce to 2 cooldown just by her weapon is nuts.
You don't even have to look at the sims to see how bad Yen'fay is, oof. Most disappointing (since that seems to be the theme) unit I got from the past year is probably H!M!Grima. No effects other than healing on his special (Berserk Armads is better??), just in time for Hardy Fighter to become meta. He's probably servicable with dragon wall and a breath seal, but he feels like a 2020 unit. Shout-outs to Neimi though for robbing my pity twice in the span of a week. She's not disappointing so much as absolutely worthless, whether for her PRF or her fodder.

Xander has atleast 1 speed more than Dimitri 😅. But Dimitri has a brave weapon (and still the same attack) with a amazing b skill which wil just destroy everything
I will say that Fae got a big boost with the release of Distant Counter Dragon, and Atk/Res Finish 4. With Finish and her unique special, she has healing and 5 damage in every attack, which helps her a lot.
I will say legendary Fae has surprised me. Saw her kit and thought she was too honest of a unit, but like you said she's an autobattle queen and now she's on my training tower grind team, which is probably not worth hundreds of orbs but I got her in like 9 so I don't mind. I can also imagine the DC sacred seal letting her become way scarier, since she can do something like dragons wrath nuking that will kill Alm and Julia, and possibly help her matchup against other tanks too.
Sothis/Byleth with dragon wall, atk/res rein and atk/res solo has been doing well for me. I shall forever live in denial and still use them and believe they are the best (hopefully I get them to +10)
Let's talk about Otr... His Canto on defence is terrible and is better replaced by something like Firesweep axe or something else. Brutal shell was nice... Until Elimine came out and literealy made him useless. G duel cav 4 in the a slot doesn't help at all it just means you have to invest into him. He just unlocks the 7 slot on AR-D. At least he works in summoner duels

Honestly I only got asc ishtar for the floret and that I like her as a character. I only use her for chain challenges and squad assault - shes not the worst but shes really boring unit imo...(like asc celica) For Xander I'm no meta expert but I think he's actually good in summoner duels and pve but not other modes considering I faced pm1's Xander and he kicked my butt in unrestricted SD lol. I can see why he's on the list though
I don't hate your opinion but I really like Ascended Ishtar personally. Yes, her design could have been a bit better, but whenever I used her in battle, she slaps. Yes there are better units than her but I would still use her regardless.
To me Fae and Xander are the units I agree most with you about their disappointment and I can't blame Fae for it. But I felt like I was the only one who felt like Xander should have gotten some more things because right now where he stands is not good. Legendary Nana got released before Xander and she completely destroys him, he doesn't stand a chance. Also I feel like to me the most disappointing character in this current year is Scahatch, the man was just absolutely done so dirty by every means necessary no one can say something that will make me believe otherwise because he could have been a really fun 4 Star sword unit with lots of potential but now he's just going to be used for fodder and that's; Pretty sad you didn't mention him at least but oh well pour one out for my boy.

@@Off-with-a-bang He's fairly underwhelming gives the strong precense of Null Follow Up basically taking away his main gimmick with Holy War's End. Dont get me wrong, he has his uses as a decent Enemy Phase unit but there are muuuch better units for that, even when he came out.
I know It's based on expected vs reality; but, as a almost f2p who have more than 100 crowns, I disagree with 3 units: Ishtar and Xander: if you are not a whale, both of them will not be used in arena, right? After all, even a full +10, 180 bst, etc, etc will face a hard time to stay in t21. But even unmerged, they will rock in AA, where you can choose where situational heroes are the best (this is what a expected from them unmerged, and the reality too). For abyssal and others modes, they can help too. When a unmerged unit obliterate a enemy team in AA, I call them "very useful". For Yang Fey, well, ofc you cannot use him in every scenario; but when you consider infantry unit, "free unit", easily merged, pfv build, then he is very powerful. I don't use red units anymore for arena, only here and there: for infantry: Itsuki and Fey (he will shine with a powerful build) Aversa (flier) and BK (armor). My core team is Flame Emperor, Sothe and Felix.

Ishtar got a heck of a lot better with spiral 4, which wasn't available when this video was made Arcane eclipse, which released on the same kit, also made flying Julia way the heck better
I’m extremely biased towards Sothis and I genuinely don’t like to admit Halloween Sothis was underwhelming. I have her at +6, but I don’t use her all that often. My Winter Sothis is my favorite version of her because of save skills.
Honestly, I think child Ike should also be a honorable mention. He’s a good unit, but still deserved so much more. He’s like one of the most popular FE characters, and that’s his first seasonal alt since his Valentine alt, but I feel like he could’ve been better
Honestly I just pulled Duo Ike just to fodder Distant Dart and Joint Drive Atk to my L!Dimitri. The real kicker is meeting him in SD and him just spamming his Duo Effect which... barely does anything since most of the time people screw up on how to use him properly.
I'm surprised I haven't seen too many hate comments (yet). Honestly, I have to agree with you (at least on Ishtar and Yen-fay, because those are the two units I've pulled/built). I think Yen-fay should be on that list and not just an honorable mention because I seriously think he's the most overrated F2P unit yet. Normally, I'm pretty good about not buying into the FeH meta hype, but I did for Yen-fay, and I'm disappointed I let myself do that. This is going to be a controversial statement, but I feel like Nemesis does the damage-reduction role better than Yen-fay. Both Nemesis and Yen-fay are 10+ and fully invested with premium skills, and I'm disappointed to see how often Yen-fay dies in arena to green units (yes, he is buffed and gets supports).

Character’s don’t have resources in this game, they’re supposed to be at least a little bit balanced so likely they won’t give a unit overwhelming amounts of nonsense (not that it’s never happened before.) but if a unit has a really good kit, they have a really good kit, it doesn’t cost them anything. Particularly in comparison to B:roy, the things Roy has that Xander doesn’t have are self bonus based in-combat foe penalties, dragon and beast effectiveness, and tempo and ally buffing in his C slot. Xander, on the other hand has NFU buff in his base kit, healing in his base kit, special charge buff in base kit, and a nearly equivalent penalty to enemy stats in his B skill, along with 50% DR against most foes. he doesn’t get tempo, but that’s not that bad when he does get special acceleration, Roy’s only real advantage is beast and dragon effectiveness. Which is really meta dependent for its value. The only other point I could see being made about Xander is that Roy has B slot freedom, and Xander doesn’t, because Xander’s weapon doesn’t have Canto, but the majority of B skills are worse for Xander than chivalry is. Speaking of B slot freedom, Roy doesn’t have NFU in his prf’s so he has to run a B slot, or support for it, But the only characters that can give him the NFU buff are dragons, with the exception of L;M;Byleth, who he has to be close enough to for it to function. the more dragons on his team, the harder it is to trigger his tempo effect (although it’s not very hard) and his C slot doesn’t buff dragons either. Not to mention that even with a flow skill, he doesn’t get NFU on both phases, which makes him considerably easier to kill. Aside from that, it’s just His Duo skill that matters, yet treachery isn’t the best effect, it’s good when your opponent doesn’t have an out, but a lull skill or a dull skill negates it. So in that regard, I personally would say that Xander is absolutely a better unit. Because he still can survive an enemy phase, even if it’s only against physical units. Summer Dimitri is a whole other story though, as he just hits really hard and has two amazing offensive effects in brave attacks and atrocity. Both of which make him into a monster, that said, he isn’t in every way better still. He’s really just a beatstick. I don’t have Xander or Roy, only Dimitri, but I didn’t think that was a good argument against Xander. Oh also, far save probably helps him a lot.
Nah, grails are easy to get and we get a lot. Yen'Fay still slaps pretty good too. Maybe in another 6 months. He is also at least unique among sword grail units
Im using Yen'fay pretty much in Arena. I build him for that. He isnt complete but he is close to it. Tbh im not disappointed. He take on green foes and many red without any problems. Except heavy mage nukes. Sure there are some but even in t20 and t21 he can handle most foes. He isn´t that good how people hype him. But he isn´t bad at all. With 185 BST he is really good for arena.

I hate for how, with Asc. Ishtar, they were like "what if we give her stuffed animals and put the word Thunderer's in front of her normal weapon's name? That's a brand new unit right?"
Plus, Legendary Xander was literally powercrept by Legendary Ryoma who was released 2+ years ago (tho, to be fair, his refine saves him).
Ishtar’s whole design just befuddles me. It’s so lazy.
She should've the deadeye-like effect instead of Tinni, and at least a different tome color they really did her dirty.
Regarding Ishtar... The stuffed animals were honestly a way to visually signify a change in character.
Where OG Ishtar was often wavering in her conviction, Ascendent Ishtar has a representation that her efforts to rescue the children were worth it... Perhaps it's the thought of this that gave her some modicum of happiness as she lay dying. Because no matter what, she will die.
Regarding her as a unit, all she really needs is an effective special that preferably reduces damage reduction, or removes it. Of course, this hasn't happened yet. No idea if it will either.

Not only are the stuffed animals cute, but you are totally right about how they demonstrated her character development to following her own conviction rather than just listening to Julius all the time. She has a tragic story but it really illustrates what could have been if only she chose a better path.
My experience with Yen'fay comes with facing him in Arena... where both the green units on my team (Eitri and Thorr) can usually kill him. I completely agree, he's unfortunately very overrated and Riev is the real star of GHBs as of late (And worse than Duo Thorr is not a terrible thing to be; I have both and don't regret merging up Riev at all).
You can actually build Riev to counter Duo Chrom. It’s a wonderful sight to behold. ☺️

The moment you said Yen' Fay I had to take a double take. He has been a great unit in my wind season core. I will admit that speed creep is always ridiculous, but honestly I haven't had too many problems with it thus far. Maybe that's why he's still putting in work for me.

Yen'fay is also the only really f2p unit on this list, which makes him easier to merge up (via copies or grails). He's not super strong (f2p aren't ever "broken") but he can do work with good investment.
L!Fae was the prototype to make L!Myrrh a good unit with all the things L!Fae could possibly hope for:

I’ve seen people try to have Fae as a juggernaut in Summoner Duels, but she’s really not that offensively threatening, I just put a bulky unit in front of her and she can’t do anything, cause she probably dies if she attacks, or at least accomplishes nothing.
I have been using a +10 L Xander ever since he came out. Im overall happy with him, he is a good unit, still i wish he could have been more.

I don't know why I never invested in him, even though I was excited that we got a decent GHB. But once I saw Yen'fay in arena do 0x2 to my baby Minerva I knew that this unit was overhyped. Nowadays flat damage and damage reduction does little to a unit, they need a niche otherwise they just drown..

I started working on Yenfay but ended up stopping cause I noticed that I haven't been using him nearly as often as I thought so I got this +7 guy with premium skills just sitting in my barracks. That's why I'm now saving up my grails and resources until I'm sure there's a grail unit I want and can instantly +10.

I have none of these 5 thankfully. I did get Yen fay to +10 and I can totally agree with your comments on him. I still use him for arena but he does nothing to beat the never ending supply of dual Dagr and ninja Corrin.

As someone who has been using Duo Sothis at +6 for a while in arena, I think their duo skill, although not the greatest, is a pretty decent utility since it gives null follow up to anyone within 2 spaces and its not locked to movement types or a specific season. The times pulse has found some use in getting bonus unit kills at times, especially when i'm forced to use barely invested tt units or barely invested askr trio to get those kills.
Also something random to point out, Constance was released shortly after Scion Julia, another red speedy tome flier with atk/spd push 4. And Constance has a prf while julia for some reason doesn't.

I unfortunately do not have audio or auto generated captions as of now, but I will defend Duo Sothis for actually having potential (Though again, unsure if you defend anything I say haha). Their Duo skill is really solid, though with stuff like Inf NFU less so (but every other turn NFU from their duo skill is great since its speed based on all units) And their stats are just the issue base Sothis has, but to a lesser degree. But with more merges and such, they really use every stat insanely well. The +10 ones I face are insanely strong and tanky too. But out of the box, yeah she isn't anything crazy, especially if you can't use the NFU from Duo Hinderance and such. I can see them down there especially with Duo Dagr, Harmonic Lysithea, Duo Chrom etc coming in the months after
The biggest thing was comparing them to the other duos. The duos this year have been BONKERS. She was just good. I won’t argue that with a lot of investment, she can be very formidable, though.

Duo Sothis was the biggest disappointment for me. The Halloween banner was one of my favorites for its designs, so I picked up all the units on it when it came out (which was also close to when I started playing FEH). I didn't know enough then to be able to judge a unit's strength by their kit and just trusted that Duo unit = good.
But yeah, it was pretty quickly apparent she had issues. Even while the banner was still running Grima was the clear standout (who is still a mainstay on my teams), with even Rhea being arguably better. She's got a lot of issues: Dragon's Wrath isn't actually that great of a skill (20% DR is nice, but not enough esp. since it's only the first hit), DC in weapon doesn't have much place in the meta for flyers, having her NFU locked behind a Duo Skill limits usefulness in AR, etc.
IMO the biggest issue though is her flying movement; having a built-in weakness to bows is terrible for an Enemy-Phase unit without Vantage or similar gimmick. You're forced to choose between Iote's shield to cover for this or just get more stats to cover her issue there. She'd have been better off as an armor or even infantry unit. Unfortunately, most of her issues are "baked in" to her design, so I don't have high hopes for them being fixed in the distant future when she gets a Duo Remix/refine. Similar with Mythic Sothis where I don't see a remix fixing the fundamental issue that her kit clashes completely with her role. They are good at auto-battling admittedly, but generally a unit being good at auto-battling is a bad sign for their overall strength (as we see with Legendary Fae).
For Yen'fay, I understand the pick, but to me, I kind of disagree with it. He does everything a good GHB unit is supposed to do. Be a good score bot for Arena that can't compete with the premium units but is still better than those in the 4-star pool. I think the days of GHB units shaking the meta up are over though. Aversa and Kronya can be seen as either mistakes or just a different design philosophy IS had back then; these days I think they're careful not to make FTP or semi-FTP units too powerful (Summer Claude is a little bit of exception to that, but to be fair, he still costs some orbs). Just the 2 cents from a relatively new player, but I think your expectations for GHB strengths are off; they aren't meant to compete with 5-star units, so it shouldn't be surprising when they get outclassed.
With 4 out of the 6 character featured I was like "WHAT???? HOW???" only to end up agreeing with your points, specially with Xander and Yen'Fay, Xander is part of my Sigurd Squad team and does fantastic against most characters and Yen'Fay is a mainstay in my Lunatic Story Mode Questing team, but all of this amounts to nothing when you put them against a Meta team, you just can't win.
They really need to give us better grail units, or at least not power creep them so quickly.
Honestly, I'll have to disagree on Yen'Fey... to an extent. Yeah, he isn't beating Duo Chroms (I save that for my OG! Chrom with his follow-up negating Sealed Falchion), but he can tank a *good* bit of units with some proper speed stacking. Mine is +10, max flowers, +atk and +spd via ascendant flower with Aether, Kestral 3, Close Call, Atk/Def menace, and Warding breath seal. He is my dedicated Arena unit for tanking Duo Dagr, Duo Corrin, and other 'nuke' units that can't get past his massive speed stat damage reduction.
Waiting for the day I get A!Mareeta and F!Lilith, to achieve maximum DR! Mwahahaha!

I think Yen'fay when he came out was really nice to have, but now he's just kind of overshadowed. There's a lot of annoying good blue units right now including summer claude who is also very easy to merge up that give yen'fay a hard time... with support I think he's good, but as a solo unit he has a lot of bad matchups.

IDK, maybe I value Yen'Fey higher because I use none of the meta defining units, and he seems to do fairly well against those threats. But yeah, I just can't invest money into trying to get any of the really broken units nowadays. Hopefully B!Chrom is super broken, because I have 400 or so orbs currently saved up to summon on him.

I can hard vouch for Yen'Fay being overrated. I basically gave him the semi optimal build with just kestrel stance 3 and nfu with all merges and dragonflowers, and he can tank NOTHING. The best matchup he has is against Eitri and he cant even kill her half the time. Of course with vital astra, joint drive spd, and a spd boon he can obviously perform better, but that is too much investment just for him to not be able to tank Duo Chrom. I've since given him double distant guards and I'm contemplating giving him a ruse to go full support for my Ilyana. With my current build, she can tank and kill Duo Chrom (with precharged deadeye btw) and Ninja Corrin.

I don't have L Fae, and while I want her just for collection, I don't see myself using her. Same with Julia, although it was either her of Larcei to be the 5-star that just barely makes the cut, like Summer Mercedes.
For Yen'fay, he is a GHB, meaning that he is going to be less powerful than regular units as he is always available in the shop. They wouldn't make a free unit super strong unless they had an answer to make people spend money.
The only one I like is Ishtar. Ascended are supposed to be a continuation in their story, and She does this very well. Her kit is definitely boring, but so is A/S Push 4. I say they cant all be winners.

I adore Ishtar. know that she didnt change the game, but she reaches insane levels of atk spd and she quads with it. Just the other day this season, my +1 Ishtar managed to quad and kill a fully invested fully buffed +10 B Ike. And we all know how he works with his DR and also being a green unit vs a blue one. If she gets a drive NFU with ACelica and you put Windsweep on her you can make AR go BRRRR

So ive been thinking thanks to the shitload of green units weve had a lot of blue units have been moved down and while the unit i think should have a refine and remix is still good it needs to be better or it will fall behind greatly. Im talking about L!Chrom, he is still king of movement and shiz but he is no where near as good as he was on relese mainly cuz theres a lot of greens and we have V!Duo Chrom. So i think he should have refine along the lines of.
(Acelerate special triger -1) Effective against flying and armored foes. Grants Atk+ 3. If foes HP >25% at start of the combat, converts penalties into buffs on unit and inflicts Atk/Def/Spd -6 on foe during combat. At the start of every turn if unit is not adyacent to any allies -1 to special cooldown. At the start of combat if foe initiates combat or if unit has more Atk than foe, prevent foes garantued follow up atacks, also reduce damege from foes first atk by 80%.
To change fate II: Moves target ally to opposite side of the unit and grants another acton to unit. Grants Atk+ 6 to unit and Pair Up cohort (if any) for 1 turn and inflicts【Isolation】on unit and Pair Up cohort (if any) through their next action. (Does not stack) Inflicts Atk/Spd/Def/Res -3 on foes within 3 rows and 3 collums of unit and movement assist target.
The only thing i have doubts is that chrom competes with L! Male Byleth wich gives drive null follow up so the follow up blocking effect is neutrulized so im not sure if it should be for the whole combat or if it should stay that way I also thought about giving him plegian effect on his bow wich i think would be very good but i dont want to break him to much. What do yall think???

thats so funny to me that you went after yen fay. i merged him up and all he needs is 1 good support to be broken. i just use astrid because i always use astrid on like every team lol. he carries AR pretty well still. i wish Brunnya was as good as him. i miss using her lol.
ive been enjoying LXander too and hes so well rounded and does so much with null follow up i think he's really solid and i like that he feels versatile rather than a specialist. i find he works against more things than he doesnt and his bad matchups are easily covered or ignored by using canto to get away.
Yeah I feel like Yen'Fay can be a pretty good unit if you just give him 1 strong support unit, maybe two if you want to be generous.
Yen'fay is a tough but fair call. I built him up as an arena score bot, but I've been terrified to send him onto the field since launch. He's supposed to take hits, but I'm never confident that he actually can.
With a TON of support, you can do it. I was just really hoping he’d be better.

I think LCaeda is slightly worse than LXander, mainly because of the season she's in, surrounded by LChrom, LMByleth which are pretty common.
LXander has a better chance on fire where he checks most heroes, he's only really outclassed by Eitri (and by Lilina which is frankly the best Fire Legendary but she scores terrible nowadays in T21) but unlike LMyrh at least he got a prf B skill so he scores the highest.
Anyway nice top, Yen Fay for a free unit is solid but yeah his archetype really struggles in arena so yeah a massive disappointment.

I don't know what you were talking about at the start, my favorite character was added in 2017 and, being a side character, has nothing but the wishful chance of a second seasonal release. With the way they've been selecting Ascendants, that won't happen either. I feel like there's 4 camps of characters that people typically categorize in their head subconsciously.
The first camp contains mostly protagonists, fanservice-y characters that make money, anyone from Heroes, but really anyone that you can say with confidence will definitely be on another banner because they're going to get released multiple times.
The second camp contains the characters that somehow have not been added to the game yet, (i.e. Boyd before he got the young alt GHB) despite being popular, important, or have been left out of a group (Seriously, the rest of the Greil Mercenaries were added, how was Boyd LAST) for various unknown reasons. This group is the characters that aren't in the game but are nigh inevitable and even people that may not care about them want them because "it's about time".
The third camp are the folks that are already in the game, like the first group, but these are the characters that get their first alt and you go "Oh hey that's neat, but they'll never get another one" because they just aren't as popular or important or are (un)fortunate enough to not be from a game released in 2012 or later. They'll get their seasonal unit and never be seen from again, but more importantly they aren't on anyone's radar for likely options.
The fourth camp is just the second camp but the characters you don't expect. These are the characters that are added and you say "Wait but why [Unit A] and not [Unit B]" because they don't seem to be as intuitive of a choice for thematical, popularity, or importance reasons. In a nutshell these are the oddballs that keep blocking the second camp. L!Xander got blocked for so long by these people.

I think I would have traded DC for slaying in Yen'fay's prf weapon. Being able to pre-charge Vital Astra with Time's Pulse and then using DC in the A slot is probably a better tradeoff to give him better killing power in both phases.

My play style has always been enemy phase based, so I jumped on Yen’Fay. I thought he would be the perfect upgrade to my OG Ike that was hanging on by the skin of his teeth. (I also used Priam for a month). And my experience with Yen’Fay has been awesome

He is my Arena carry and the star of my main team for dealing with most content.
Now I also have a +10 Bravekeeper, and yeah, I think he belongs here instead. (I know he’s gen 5 technically, but he is a year old, he fits) I get really good use out of him in Aether raids and no where else.
A lot of the newer units are focused on taking on F!Edelgard, there where not a lot of counters when she arrived. Which includes effects that destroy units like Fae sadly. And on top of that the most "counters" still get destroyed by Edelgard, if she is invested (survises with 1 hp, kills the counter, and remeber, heals after every battle), or with poor movement planning.
Actually, Legendary Edelgard does wonders against her. Same with Legendary Dimitri. If you can take the first hit against her with someone, then use L Edelgard, you got it made. With Dimitri, let F Edelgard attack him.

Not to mention Bride Sophia that was released only 6 months after was 10x the tank and unit that Scion Julia was and had a Prf weapon with a great fodder option in Atk/Res hold.

About L!Fae is painfull but true, shes my babydoll counter of F!Edelgard(Fae can defeat +10 F!Edelgard like nothing), i got her +1 because i want the damn Ullr, but she doesnt come to my barracks, dudes, i throw +600 orbs and none Ullr appear, damn it!

I see your point on Yen’fay, but I use him in arena regularly and stay in the 20-21 hell haha he functions extremely well for me, but I know that different people have different experiences for sure
I was really disappointed when Sothis came out because her weapon should have been player-phase oriented. She's pretty mediocre as a tank and bows destroy her.
But my most disappointing unit I received this year has to be August. He does absolutely nothing and is definitely outclassed by Lilith's support.
We had a long talk about him in the Discord. I had really high expectations for August, and he’s just not good.

The reasons why they are the worst are so small...
Xander has pretty much everything a hero could want, aside from countering sweep weapons, for example. Great stats, amazing damage reduction, canto, NFU, special charge, slaying, healing... he has things that the other cavalry axes heroes don't have, including way more sustainability while still keeping great attacking power.
Ishtar is a powerhouse, will kill pretty much everything in player phase, even more so with NFU.
Sothis is a great big ball of stats with a great skill and amazing weapon. Slaying, DC, extra stats, no dragon weakness is amazing!
Not a big fan of Fae personally, but aside from fatal smoke or brave weapons, she can be very hard to kill.
These are all good units, but they suffer in context. Xander does have a lot of great skills, but in trying to be mixed phase, he doesn’t do any one thing better than the others. You get the Jack of all trades but the master of none. Those units generally don’t age well
Ishtar is a good nuke in a sea of good nukes. She just doesn’t stand out, and it’s even more clear when looking at the other ascendants.
It’s the same with Sothis. She’s good, but she’s expensive as a seasonally locked unit and she’s so much worse than the other duos.
@@FEH Xander will most likely age better than Dimitri or Roy. For one, they are seasonal, and Xander will show up every 3 months or so for summoning. Being a Jack of all trades is not a bad thing at all. Being able to attack very well on both phases is a great bonus.
Sure, there are a lot of ranged nukes, but how many have null guard? Ascended Celica who just came out does, and she is most likely better than Ishtar, but not many do. Furthermore, she has a brave effect, which makes her stand out.
Sothis is a great duelist. She has sustain, well rounded stats, her weapon has a lot of great effects. Her duo skill as well has good support capabilities that can fit on any team.
Man all these units are so good, but they just fall short in one important aspect or another.

Fae can sweep entire teams, but she can also simply die to first unit that shows up. (I kill her all the time no problem with my BEliwood, and Ylgr.
Julia is.... not having a prf weapon is just a death sentence waiting to happen. Her B skill isn't enough to make up for the weapon.
Ishtar deals with the simple fact we've all been dealing with Reinhardt for years now. She's stronger sure, but not necessarily a problem.
Xander can technically tank really heavy mages. While I don't have him, I do have a unit with similiar Res BEliwood I make survive even +10 Ninjorrin's. So I know it can be done. But like BEliwood he needs heavy investment for those kinds of shenanigans mine is +10 that's just entry level to survive Ninjorrin. Investment like that just isn't easy for someone like Xander. BEliwood is a brave unit and they are among one of the easiest to merge up cause you can guarantee they can show up multiple times a year. Their debut banner, Golden Week, some rando Legendary/Mythic banner mid-year, skill banner, or Anniversary celebration, and for the older Brave Heroes like BEliwood in particuliar they show up in 3 person banners in a set time. Xander on the otherhand is a Legendary Hero and they are among the hardest units to merge up. As well as a part of the ever-growing number of green units. So to get him to do all the same crazy things as a unit who got a refine almost a year ago at this point, and doesn't even have a prf B skill is really expensive. Technically speaking I've ran the cals also and it is possible to get Xander to survive +10 Ninjorrin's as well. But being +10 is the entry level for those kinds of shenanigans.
Really that's pretty much been the problem with most enemy phase units that aren't save armors nowadays. They need to be highly merged to actually be valuable. Save armors can get away with little to no merges cause save allows them to specialize on who they want to encounter more easily and are generally more specialized in enemy phasing with some exceptions. Cost to entry for a player phase nuke doesn't even require merges. Player Phasing is more about the skills you have, and only 2 of your stats truly matter with the rest either having no problems being dumped, or if invested into allows you to run more unique setups. This is why nearly every Yuri and DChrom in Summoner Duels leaderboard is copy-pasted from each other.

Finally, a Brave Eliwood enjoyer, he's my designated physical nuke, not even Idunn can withstand his might.
Not gonna lie, L!Xander is pretty scary against my team for Summoner Duels. But with the most recent nuke shenanigans combined with the mix of lethality and deadeyes, we prefer other units to counter the current meta.
He’s not bad at all! I wish I had one to play with this season, but I’d rather have S!Dimitri or H!Roy. 😭

I'd say for me it is clearly Ascended Celica on No. 1 because I, as many others, expect cool character choices for Ascendeds, that aren't enough for certain other statuses.
Then they released Ascended Celica...which already had a Legendary Alt and it is also her fourth normal pool version.
So I think she ist the REAL disappointment according to the expectations, therefore even more than Ishtar imo, haha. :D
I’m not sure why they did that. I think they misunderstood the hype behind the early ascendants. It was just so neat to get units that weren’t lords.
as much as i love duo sothis, one of my favorite characters, drawn by my favorite artist in the game, i'd have to agree. she's very underwhelming compared to other duos, and while ive gotten her to work pretty well by using iote's shield as her sacred seal, it sucks that you have to use her sacred seal slot for negating the flying weakness instead of other, better things.
One time in AR, I ran into a L!Xander gimmick team that had him surrounded by drive DR units and he still died to one hit of base kit B!Marianne (with Muspell support though)
i put my h!sothis to work as frontliner with far save support and she is pretty good. but she definatly got short stick in duo meta

The issue with yen fay
Was mostly that on book 4 and 5 damage reduction was the main bread and butter
And there was ALWAYS an omni sword and axe, being able to stop the brave hit of lys on particular and being able to bait duo peony
And TBH early book 6 was VERY TAME and his weapon was literally freyja's Prf on a F2P
But then
OFC Book 6 ended up bringing bonkers units wise and ninjorrin aged SPECTACULARLLY and she got way more common in arena.
Also being forced to run null follow up to avoid dog pilling
And sadly he arrived JUST on the end of the multispecialist era

One thing I will say about Acendants. A!Mareeta absolutely revolutionized speed tanks and is helping them come back into the meta. Vital Astra is an amazing special that's allowing for some fantastic build options. It's the soul reason why L!Dimitri is so good right now. Vital Astra is the reason why I can use Resplendant Marth in AR-O
As a unit, she's become one of the best raid boss characters in the entire game since speed stacking her is so easy thanks to L!Eliwood and she can even run Godlike Reflexes to absolutely destroy Duo Chrom and other deadeye/lethality users with her weapon and Velocity 3.
Plus, she's pretty easy to +10 rn cuz of the ascendant banner that's out right now. I've been able to get mine up to +5 and she has NOT been a disappointment. She may require a bit of investing, but she sets a new standard for Speed DR tanks and is easily one of the most premier options right now.
Also she looks SO PRETTY
I do think she stands out more on a Galeforce team. There are several units that outclasses her bulk, but reducing Galeforce to 2 cooldown just by her weapon is nuts.

Most disappointing (since that seems to be the theme) unit I got from the past year is probably H!M!Grima. No effects other than healing on his special (Berserk Armads is better??), just in time for Hardy Fighter to become meta. He's probably servicable with dragon wall and a breath seal, but he feels like a 2020 unit.
Shout-outs to Neimi though for robbing my pity twice in the span of a week. She's not disappointing so much as absolutely worthless, whether for her PRF or her fodder.

THANK YOU! Yenfey is not that good, if your gonna build an awakening grails character then just build walhart, he has great support and has Rees lot nice combat but even without super investing into him he can help just by his menace and range and power threaten flash atk and def

I will say that Fae got a big boost with the release of Distant Counter Dragon, and Atk/Res Finish 4. With Finish and her unique special, she has healing and 5 damage in every attack, which helps her a lot.
I will say legendary Fae has surprised me. Saw her kit and thought she was too honest of a unit, but like you said she's an autobattle queen and now she's on my training tower grind team, which is probably not worth hundreds of orbs but I got her in like 9 so I don't mind. I can also imagine the DC sacred seal letting her become way scarier, since she can do something like dragons wrath nuking that will kill Alm and Julia, and possibly help her matchup against other tanks too.
Sothis/Byleth with dragon wall, atk/res rein and atk/res solo has been doing well for me. I shall forever live in denial and still use them and believe they are the best (hopefully I get them to +10)

Let's talk about Otr... His Canto on defence is terrible and is better replaced by something like Firesweep axe or something else. Brutal shell was nice... Until Elimine came out and literealy made him useless. G duel cav 4 in the a slot doesn't help at all it just means you have to invest into him. He just unlocks the 7 slot on AR-D. At least he works in summoner duels

L! Fae still to this day is still one of my favorite Legendary units, she was the reason why i finshed many difficult events or story etc.
She’s a PVE champ for sure. I love using her in Tempest Trials +. I just wish she was better in more modes.

Honestly I only got asc ishtar for the floret and that I like her as a character. I only use her for chain challenges and squad assault - shes not the worst but shes really boring unit imo...(like asc celica)
For Xander I'm no meta expert but I think he's actually good in summoner duels and pve but not other modes considering I faced pm1's Xander and he kicked my butt in unrestricted SD lol. I can see why he's on the list though

I don't hate your opinion but I really like Ascended Ishtar personally. Yes, her design could have been a bit better, but whenever I used her in battle, she slaps. Yes there are better units than her but I would still use her regardless.
To me Fae and Xander are the units I agree most with you about their disappointment and I can't blame Fae for it. But I felt like I was the only one who felt like Xander should have gotten some more things because right now where he stands is not good. Legendary Nana got released before Xander and she completely destroys him, he doesn't stand a chance. Also I feel like to me the most disappointing character in this current year is Scahatch, the man was just absolutely done so dirty by every means necessary no one can say something that will make me believe otherwise because he could have been a really fun 4 Star sword unit with lots of potential but now he's just going to be used for fodder and that's; Pretty sad you didn't mention him at least but oh well pour one out for my boy.
there was a huge debate on whether to talk about the demotes this year. Rickard might be different because a canto+1 inheritable sword is really interesting, but most of them have been incredibly underwhelming.

@@Off-with-a-bang He's fairly underwhelming gives the strong precense of Null Follow Up basically taking away his main gimmick with Holy War's End. Dont get me wrong, he has his uses as a decent Enemy Phase unit but there are muuuch better units for that, even when he came out.

I know It's based on expected vs reality; but, as a almost f2p who have more than 100 crowns, I disagree with 3 units:
Ishtar and Xander: if you are not a whale, both of them will not be used in arena, right? After all, even a full +10, 180 bst, etc, etc will face a hard time to stay in t21. But even unmerged, they will rock in AA, where you can choose where situational heroes are the best (this is what a expected from them unmerged, and the reality too). For abyssal and others modes, they can help too. When a unmerged unit obliterate a enemy team in AA, I call them "very useful".
For Yang Fey, well, ofc you cannot use him in every scenario; but when you consider infantry unit, "free unit", easily merged, pfv build, then he is very powerful. I don't use red units anymore for arena, only here and there: for infantry: Itsuki and Fey (he will shine with a powerful build) Aversa (flier) and BK (armor). My core team is Flame Emperor, Sothe and Felix.
Gave my +10 yen’Fay arcane devourer, speed res finish 4(waiting for a attack speed finish 4) null c disrupt 4, speed smoke 4 and the shadow speed special skill…good luck killing him one on one

I’m extremely biased towards Sothis and I genuinely don’t like to admit Halloween Sothis was underwhelming. I have her at +6, but I don’t use her all that often. My Winter Sothis is my favorite version of her because of save skills.

Honestly I just pulled Duo Ike just to fodder Distant Dart and Joint Drive Atk to my L!Dimitri.
The real kicker is meeting him in SD and him just spamming his Duo Effect which... barely does anything since most of the time people screw up on how to use him properly.
I'm surprised I haven't seen too many hate comments (yet). Honestly, I have to agree with you (at least on Ishtar and Yen-fay, because those are the two units I've pulled/built). I think Yen-fay should be on that list and not just an honorable mention because I seriously think he's the most overrated F2P unit yet. Normally, I'm pretty good about not buying into the FeH meta hype, but I did for Yen-fay, and I'm disappointed I let myself do that. This is going to be a controversial statement, but I feel like Nemesis does the damage-reduction role better than Yen-fay. Both Nemesis and Yen-fay are 10+ and fully invested with premium skills, and I'm disappointed to see how often Yen-fay dies in arena to green units (yes, he is buffed and gets supports).

That’s not very good reasoning imo. Character’s don’t have resources in this game, they’re supposed to be at least a little bit balanced so likely they won’t give a unit overwhelming amounts of nonsense (not that it’s never happened before.) but if a unit has a really good kit, they have a really good kit, it doesn’t cost them anything. Particularly in comparison to B:roy, the things Roy has that Xander doesn’t have are self bonus based in-combat foe penalties, dragon and beast effectiveness, and tempo and ally buffing in his C slot. Xander, on the other hand has NFU buff in his base kit, healing in his base kit, special charge buff in base kit, and a nearly equivalent penalty to enemy stats in his B skill, along with 50% DR against most foes. he doesn’t get tempo, but that’s not that bad when he does get special acceleration, Roy’s only real advantage is beast and dragon effectiveness. Which is really meta dependent for its value. The only other point I could see being made about Xander is that Roy has B slot freedom, and Xander doesn’t, because Xander’s weapon doesn’t have Canto, but the majority of B skills are worse for Xander than chivalry is.
Speaking of B slot freedom, Roy doesn’t have NFU in his prf’s so he has to run a B slot, or support for it, But the only characters that can give him the NFU buff are dragons, with the exception of L;M;Byleth, who he has to be close enough to for it to function. the more dragons on his team, the harder it is to trigger his tempo effect (although it’s not very hard) and his C slot doesn’t buff dragons either. Not to mention that even with a flow skill, he doesn’t get NFU on both phases, which makes him considerably easier to kill. Aside from that, it’s just His Duo skill that matters, yet treachery isn’t the best effect, it’s good when your opponent doesn’t have an out, but a lull skill or a dull skill negates it.
So in that regard, I personally would say that Xander is absolutely a better unit. Because he still can survive an enemy phase, even if it’s only against physical units.
Summer Dimitri is a whole other story though, as he just hits really hard and has two amazing offensive effects in brave attacks and atrocity. Both of which make him into a monster, that said, he isn’t in every way better still. He’s really just a beatstick.
I don’t have Xander or Roy, only Dimitri, but I didn’t think that was a good argument against Xander.

Nah, grails are easy to get and we get a lot. Yen'Fay still slaps pretty good too. Maybe in another 6 months. He is also at least unique among sword grail units

Im using Yen'fay pretty much in Arena. I build him for that. He isnt complete but he is close to it. Tbh im not disappointed. He take on green foes and many red without any problems. Except heavy mage nukes. Sure there are some but even in t20 and t21 he can handle most foes. He isn´t that good how people hype him. But he isn´t bad at all. With 185 BST he is really good for arena.

Nyx was very dissapointing to me. Her weapon was so unique, but they nerfed her right away. She's just another red mage glass canon now
