His attempts to prove otherwise have failed because he does not understand. He was warned that Brexit would cause stresses on NI. Our biggest exports are to the EU bloc at 45%. As I said previously 40% + of Irish exports - to the UK - are agricultural! FACT Can't imagine for 1 second your Irish farmers would like to lose any of that to New Zealand or Australian competitors. Your farmers are also about to be hit by the 25% emissions reductions - how is it going to happen without considerable upheaval? We all know that Irish economic output figures are, shall we say, 'unusual' LOL (!) due to Ireland's total over reliance on FDA from, largely, a handful of mega American tech firms. This means a few large transactions totally screw up your figures! So I'm unsure what point you hope to make? Ireland will always need to trade with the UK, it will continue to use us as a land bridge to Europe, you'll always need UK gas and energy supplies and, to Ireland's loss and shame, you will always continue to export to us, in large amounts, your most valuable assest - your people - because the UK continues to offer them better life chances and, still in many parts of UK, affordable homes! Ireland cannot match that in reality. So, as mentioned, take care what you wish for as the UK has been a good friend to Ireland over many years.

However, if the Republic of Ireland is not party to any agreement or understanding the United Kingdom made or has with the various militant groups and hard liners who had been committing terrorism in the United Kingdom with respect to not having a hard border with the Republic of Ireland, then why can't the Republic of Ireland just enforce by itself its own border with the nonEuropean country whose borders it recognized in 1998? If the Republic of Irelandians don't have enough trained border police for the task at hand, why not just invite a deployment of trained border policemen from third countries through the United Nations peacekeeping program to bivouac just south of the border and deploy to enforce it and to train their Republic of Irelandian replacements?

1: It is a British border ,illegally annexing a part of Ireland
2: The U.K's decision to leave the EU (without planning or listening to warnings) caused the whole backstop /protocol issue.
3: Everyone except the unionists are happy with the protocol
So why palm off a British created ,British compounded problem?

@@colloquialsoliloquy6391 If the problem the terrorists would have would be that it would be a United Kingdomian border, then making it a Republic of Irelandian border would resolve the problem. Naturally, the collapse of Europe also resolves the problem, though that would also destroy around half the GDP of ROI.

The problem is, that the people who police that border's security ,would face the inevitable outcome of attacks, which might spark the tit for tat whirlwind that took 30 years to stop the last time.
The flag on the uniform is irrelevant ,as loyalists paramilitary's were the ones who are promising attacks ,and already have intimidated customs officials.
I fail to see how the EU will collapse ,and I generally don't believe those who say it will ,as I've heard that argument for three decades now ,vs the evidence of three decades of the EU being stable.
Unwittingly, you guys keep conceding ye are in a terrible state after Brexit ,
You won ,but you are hoping the EU will collapse.
Winners enjoy their success ,they don't pray for their vanquished opponent to collapse.
Only pyrrhic victors resort to such methods of consolation.
Sorry mate ,you won ,get over it.

I would have Ben Habib speaking for me and defending our rights then the whole if Westminster..
When are you going to make a comeback into frontline politics Ben, you are needed to keep the pressure on those corrupt specimens who are in control at the moment!
