Conservatism, Autonomy, and Community in Traditional Wicca

  • I talk a lot about the diversity of practices in Gardnerian Wicca and the wide variation in the ways that people approach the tradition. But recognizing a diverse range of approaches to Wicca doesn't mean I don't have my own opinions on how I like Wiccan ritual to be done. I do have such opinions, and they're quite strong--and, in many cases, much stodgier than you might think if you knew me only from watching my videos. Here, I talk through how personal preferences intersect with valuing coven autonomy in traditional Wicca, and I share some thoughts about the importance of being able to participate in community with people who do things differently than I do.

You're probably not surprised but I completely love this video and your views on it. Can you imagine how much more amazing our community can be if we could just respect and accept our differences instead of nitpicking or accusing others of not being "valid". Thank you for posting this

You speak for yourself, but also for many of us as well.
    Well done.❤

The pastel pullover is fun! And, speaking as a Florida escapee/expat, please do keep saying things that piss off Florida! 🏳‍🌈

How do you find a coven? How would I know if there’s one close by me?

If you have a Facebook account, the best resource by far is a group called Gardnerian Wicca Seekers & Initiates. Falling short of that, there are a couple of websites where covens can post listings (including Mandragora Magika and Darksome Moon), although those websites don't vet the covens that post. Finally, you can always stop by a local metaphysical shop and ask if they know of any groups in your area!

If you’re from Florida Jack. Is Morley Schloss welcoming to Wiccans at his club?

I'm not from Florida! I live in the northeastern US.

Naturist Society clubs in your area have more liberal admissions policies. Set up a free tarot reading. Not a place for dark and scary Cabot witches. Happy nude Farrar style witches will fit in better. Can’t be too weird.
