    I’m 65 and been sewing since I was 10….when you started the shirring, I said out loud….NO WAY! I guess I’m more familiar with the “old ways”. I used to hand smock my daughter’s dresses. ❤️ fabulous…now I know how to do a skirt I want!

      @Tammy.Handmade  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Ahhh yes this method is much less time consuming than the old way of hand smocking! Wow that must have taken ages 😅 I hope your skirt goes well xx

    What a fun dress! How would you go about adding straps if you wanted to?

    • @Tammy.Handmade

      That would be very easy, just try the top on once shirred and mark where you want the straps to sit on the front and back. Then attach a rectangle of fabric for the straps x

    You didn’t say anything about stitch length and tension - do these need to be changed?

    • @Tammy.Handmade
      @Tammy.Handmade  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I kept the same stitch length as normal, you’ll need to play with tension on your machine as it can vary widely depending on what fabric you’re using. I would do a scrap piece with your normal tension then adjust if necessary x

  • @melaniewall7385

    Could you tell me roughly how much fabric to buy and what width please?. I’m a size 14 and 5’ 10” tall!. Also how many bobbins of shirring elastic did you use?. Loving your video and definitely going to have a go at this ☺️x

    • @Tammy.Handmade
      @Tammy.Handmade  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I would buy a metre of fabric, you’ll probably only use half but just in case it’s always good to get extra ❤️ it’s always best to buy a fabric that’s at least 50” fabric for shirring unless you want to cut out two rectangles and join the together to make one big piece 🙈 I also only filled up my bobbin twice, so you just need one spool of elastic thread.
