I’m 65 and been sewing since I was 10….when you started the shirring, I said out loud….NO WAY! I guess I’m more familiar with the “old ways”. I used to hand smock my daughter’s dresses. ❤️ fabulous…now I know how to do a skirt I want!
Ahhh yes this method is much less time consuming than the old way of hand smocking! Wow that must have taken ages 😅 I hope your skirt goes well xx
OMG! I have been trying to figure out how to make a bodice like this for ages! Thanks so much for this tutorial ❤

Thank you for sharing this, I’ve always wondered how to finish each row at the end. The dress is really cute, I love pink now ship it to me. Just kidding 😄
So glad you love the tutorial! I just pivot at the end of each row and stitch a few seconds down and then start a new line ❤️
Great tutorial! Do you serge it at all?

Hi Tammy could you use if for a long skirt
Great tutorial! What stitch width and length settings do you set your machine to? Longest or shortest?
Super pattern and sew. How much elastic did you use for the shirring?
Brilliant
Thank you so much! ❤️
Nice tutorial. Thank you for sharing. Can I ask which stitch length you used?
Thank you! I just used a standard stitch length but you can always increase it for more shirring ❤️
Ooh i needed a video on this and this was the first one I've watched and it is brilliant! Off on my honeymoon to Thailand in 5 weeks and have a dress similar that I wear constantly in the summer and wanted to make a couple. Thankyou so much!
What a fun dress! How would you go about adding straps if you wanted to?
That would be very easy, just try the top on once shirred and mark where you want the straps to sit on the front and back. Then attach a rectangle of fabric for the straps x
Thank you so much for this tutorial. Well done and so soothing to watch and hear.
Sewing a dress like this has always been a mystery to me. I'm so excited to try it.
Now did you wind the elastic thread by hand or did you use the machine to wind it?
So glad you love the tutorial! I wind the elastic by hand to make sure it wasn’t too tight ❤️
Make sure you switch direction for each shirred row
Ive gone through tins of videis , yours is by far the best !!! And voice is very calm and beautiful , subed ❤.
One thing though , i didnt understand qhen yiu said yiu did it in intervols of three , can you please explain .
Btw you clean uo very nice 😊 and the dress looked vwry beautiful on you ❤
Oh my as i had the video paused to comment i realized your referring to the squares on the fabric hahaha , ok gonna try this but with dif. Fabric though . Thank you
So glad you love the sewing tutorial, I try to make it as easy as possible for anyone to learn ❤️
☺☺☺☺
What would you do to make the skirt part extra poofy?
Looks great! May I ask you which tension you used for the sewing machine for the shirring? Also did you do backstitch at the each line?
Thank you! I used standard tension for shirring on my machine but you use increased tension and a longer stitch length. I also did backstitch at the end of each line :)
Hi dear, what a beautiful tutorial. I'd love to make a bandeau dress, is there any way I can do this without the overlocker?
Thank you! You don’t need the overlocker, you can just sew using a zig-zag stitch on your sewing machine ❤️
@@Tammy.Handmade thank you so much, I can't wait to try ❤️
Hi great tutorial would you do it the same way for little girls dress
Yes you can make this for a girls dress! Just take their measurements as you would for this dress ❤️
I want to make this dress but i want the bottom to be super poofy for a little girl. What would you suggest? I love the top but want the bottom very poofy.
You didn’t say anything about stitch length and tension - do these need to be changed?
I kept the same stitch length as normal, you’ll need to play with tension on your machine as it can vary widely depending on what fabric you’re using. I would do a scrap piece with your normal tension then adjust if necessary x
Could you tell me roughly how much fabric to buy and what width please?. I’m a size 14 and 5’ 10” tall!. Also how many bobbins of shirring elastic did you use?. Loving your video and definitely going to have a go at this ☺️x
I would buy a metre of fabric, you’ll probably only use half but just in case it’s always good to get extra ❤️ it’s always best to buy a fabric that’s at least 50” fabric for shirring unless you want to cut out two rectangles and join the together to make one big piece 🙈 I also only filled up my bobbin twice, so you just need one spool of elastic thread.
@@Tammy.Handmade awww many thanks for info. You’re a star ⭐️ x
🙏💕💕💕
I’m not sure how to measure the width of my bust - is it the circumference? Thank you!!
Hi! Yes wrap the tape around your entire bust (the circumference) ❤️
Hi Tammy! This may be a silly question but is it done with a zig zag stitch?
It’s not a silly question! You always just use a straight stitch when sewing with shirring elastic :)
@@Tammy.Handmade thank you 😊
Do you cut the elastic when you turn? Or just keep going
This is actually up to you, I prefer to turn and keep going but you can do either way :)
Do you have to alternate the directions when you're sewing the rows ?
When you come to the end of a row you can either cut the thread and start again or you can just pivot the fabric and go back the other way :)
Do you think it will matter if the fabric I chose has a little bit of stretch already? Thanks in advance 🧡
I think that would be fine! There’s no point doing shirring on very stretchy fabric but if only has a slight amount of stretch that would be fine ❤️
@@Tammy.Handmade wonderful, thank you! 😁🙏🏼🥰
Thank you, God bless you.
Jesus loves you!
I wonder why my sewing machine doesnt work on elastic thread.😢😢😢
You might need to tighten the bobbin tension ❤️
how high is the length of the ruffled section
that depends on how high you want it., I think mine ended up being 7" or something like that ❤️
@@Tammy.Handmade thank you for the answer
Hi, what is the name of the fabric?
This is Gingham fabric, it's a cotton ❤️
