This owner is one of the most in tune owners I’ve seen on your channel. She knows what she’s not understanding and doing wrong and that her dogs are actually good pups, she’s just not communicating correctly to her pups what she wants
This dude really knows his stuff and has a demeanour that means he can explain things in such a way that it makes sense. He is probably the best dog trainer / behaviourist I've seen on TH-cam. I have a Rottweiler (a large 135lb working male who can be very highly strung), and I see people picking their little yapping dogs up every single day. I see people turn and walk the other way, I see people cross the street, and worst of all I see people pick up their children. My dog is completely under control and has been professionally trained since he was eight weeks old. People only see the size and the breed, and don't see their own dog is the one out of control and being aggressive. Picking up a little dog who is being confrontational is only telling the little bugger you need protecting!
so very true. I have 2 Anatolian Shepherds and people get freaked out by their mere size. 90 lbs 4 1/2 yr old runt and 110 lbs 16 month old and they are super sweet.
I have a boxer dog, very friendly dog but here in Quebec, Canada medias talk a lot of shit about agressive dogs and a lot of people are scared and in my experience at dog parks and whatnot most agressives dogs are royal poodle, they are nasty, I don't know why, maybe their owners tend to think they're nice toy pets that don't need proper training.
@@SkodzGaming I don't think any dog is inherently aggressive but I truly understand what it is like to get the stares from other dog owners because you own a certain breed. I was told just the other night that I had a dangerous dog. My dog, who was on leash was set upon by a tiny dog (I have no idea what it was) who was NOT on leash. I've I've mentioned before I have a very large 135lb Rottie. My dog did not fight back, but did growl (he has been professionally trained by a police handler). The other owner came rushing over and had the audacity to say it was all my dogs fault because it's a Rottweiler! I've had a boxer. They are amongst the funniest breeds out there. I certainly wouldn't call them aggressive. I'm afraid some people are just idiots.
So this older lady has both a Rottie and a Corso? That is absolutely brilliant. She is showing both breeds do not need anything but a responsible owner.
I would say educated instead of responsible. She seems very responsible and intuitive in terms what/how to do but lacked the education on how to properly administer the guidance.
I THOUGHT I WAS GOING CRAZY. At first I saw a rottie, and then I realized he out of nowhere had a corso with him. I started doubting myself for a sec there.
I forgot to mention, THANK YOU AGAIN Thomas for all that you do and all the knowledge you share! There is no way I could afford to pay for all the wisdom and guidance you freely give in these videos and live chats!
Agreed! I am such a better dog owner after finding Thomas's channel. I am so much more confidence and he explains everything so clearly and addresses so many topics.
Great tips on dog training. It seems like dog training should really be called people training so that they can be successful at having a happy and balanced pet. Appreciate all the work you do in filming and editing these videos.
ain't that truth. I didn't realize it was as much or more of training me than it was about training the dog. If you are high strung or anxious then your dog will be as well until you've gained each others respect and then the anxiety won't matter as much. great points
I'm glad that you showed leash handling. That was what my trainer didn't show me, and not knowing makes handling a reactive dog that much more risky. I fell into my confidence walk this summer (a year after getting the dog )and the impact on the dog was night and day! We walked past our first dog on the same side of the street last week. Every reactivity trainer should start with leash handling..... there's a Huge difference between managing reactive dogs and communicating confidence to them, thereby heading off a good part of the behaviour.
My favorite video so far from you. My dog reacts the same way to other dogs while on leash. It was so nice to see how you train with the prong collar! Thank you!
Another awesome video! Very helpful as Sophie mirrors my Cloud. I find that when Cloud is in forward motion and moving with intent, such as walking , changing directions constantly etc., it keeps her engaged mentally so that there is allot less time for her to be distracted by other dogs. If she is standing still or in the fenced yard off leash, she is much more focused on being aggressive to other dogs
Omg I used to take my Great Dane to Delmar Beach from puppy stage until she was 15 years old when I lived out there. You are making me miss the beach! I am so glad you are teaching this lady how to train her Rottie to be calmer. There was a Rottie that got banned from that because because it was dog and people aggressive and the owner couldn't control it. The only problem I had with Guennie is that she was territorial about our blanket at the beach. Great video BTW.
At 9:56 I was oh no no no not the bridge to doggy beach in Del Mar! It isn't wide enough for 2 aggressive dogs to pass. Then at 10:56 I finally stopped holding my breath with huge relief. I can't believe how well you did! Amazing
Our race ended so far from nature. That's why we don't have a general understanding of the language of nature. Thomas reintroduces these owners to that language. 💪 This knowledge should be taught in elementary school or even kindergarden with the same importance as how to tie a shoelace, how to count to ten, how to speak/read/write, etc. This video is wonderful!
Awesome video. So, distractions, praise, and calm assertive energy are key. Also, what is the stop/start process on the leash for again? And is "heel" to start or stop?
That was one of the best sessions I’ve seen to date, client “ why are you here” 😆. Doesn’t need training anymore, almost a job well done 👍. Love your channel Tom thanks for the awesome tips. Greetings from Perth West Australia 🇦🇺
I'm trying to find a slip leash with the back up clip to the collar, but have not found it. You mentioned it in a previous video, may I ask you (or anyone who knows what I'm talking about) to share a link of where I could purchase it? Thank you!
Omg youre here in San Diego!!! We live here as well!! Ive watched other trainers and am absolutely AMAZED with how amazing you are with every pup you come in contact with! Still having trouble with our lab but looking through your videos has definitely been giving me insight. Im still not confident with him though, even worse now since he bit me for the first time on the 4th. At this point hes bitten my 3 kids and myself except for my hubs which is his "person". I have no clue how to get him to respect me anymore. After last week I feel defeated and definitely discouraged. Hes so reactive/aggressive to any other dogs and some people, and now the only way to walk him is with a prong collar (which only the hubs does since i feel like i just cant). He literally only listens to him, but me and the kids are with the pup 85% of the time. We've had him since he was 6 weeks and he was the sweetest...i just dont know what happened. I tried walking him for the first time yesterday, with the prong collar, and he literally still tried to pull me. At this point i understand that it has ALOT to do with me and not feeling confident but idk how to get over it 😞😭
Hi Tom! I'm new to your videos but I really like and appreciate them and all your hard work and effort, my question is could this be achieved without the prone collar? Doesn't it hurt dogs too much?
This is awesome, thank you so much for sharing this ! Quick question, why is it so important that the dog does not get ahead of the handler's leg when in a heel position ?
Is it me, did the video start with a rottweiler & shift over to a black cropped pit bull terrier??? Hey, it's all good on the ocean front, once again great training and I learned a few tips along the way!
Tom - thanks for this! I wish I had known about this! I still struggle with one of my dogs that I adopted three years ago. I went through training and still have issues when my dog sees another dog while we walk at the park. Question though. Was that an extra collar that was attached to the leash? Where do you get them?
Lol, it's obvious you love your coffee but how much caffeine had you consumed prior to this video?, either that or you're high on life! The lady seems savvy but your understanding and patience of why she tense's up when approaching a dog is so lovely, I've learned a lot from this video as I do EXACTLY the same, will try harder in future to relax. Omg simply love watching!
Hey man when are you coming to the UK? I just heard what you said about being on edge. Instead being more relaxed and seeing the good side of my dog. Instead of him doing things wrong things and giving him a break. I need to look at myself and see the good things he does rather than seeing the wrong in him. Thx bro
Hello love your videos! Mydog is 20 lbs. And has become reactive to other dogs pulling on their lead and force themselves into her space. Which in turn makes it hard to keep my dog relaxed and in heel position as we walk past. What can I do to keep my dog behaved walking past dogs who arent behaving?
First off, thank you for all the great content! I've been watching a lot of your videos and getting a little better at recognizing that moment of build up. I've been looping over 4:38-4:43 because that happens a lot with my dog where I've missed the correction point and she has already lunged and ends up kinda dangling and then it's all down hill from there. But, I noticed that as you lowered the dog you did a quick correction as soon as she lands. I want to try that with my dog. But, here's my question just for my clarification. It seems like the correction as soon as she landed came with the verbal 'leave it' at the same time. I remember you saying in a few other videos that owners make the mistake of correcting and giving a command at the same time. So, if you can clarify that for me in this video, I'd love to try it out as closely as you did it in the video on my next walk with my dog. (I have a 9kg Jack Pit brindle female mix rescue. She loves people but loses it on dogs. I walk her with a muzzle. I have been nicked while she is still snapping and twisting in mid air). Thanks so much. I've also begun saying 'Good (command)!' right after the behavior to confirm and make it clear to both of us that this is exactly the behavior we want and I think it's making that final difference and making it stick for her.
Tom I am waiting for you to come to Philly so me and my boy HEMI can be one of your students. Even if can't come to Philly somewhere nearby, we would meet you. I love all your videos and seeing this woman with these two amazing powerful breeds let's me know I can do this too. I finally got him to the Veterinarian after a long time and although he was sedated he was still out of control and needed to be muzzled. The Veterinarian said he was extremely healthy and she is looking forward to him coming back next year for his wellness exam.
I’m an rvt, the vet is a very stressful place for dogs that don’t go regularly. They are poked with needles, ears are tugged at and looked in, heads are held, temperature is taken (rectally), dremmels and clipper are used on the nails which sometimes get quicked. One bad experience can mean a lifetime of stressful vet trips. Make sure your vet is compassionate and caring of each animal and sometimes sedation is better for the dog even if it costs an extra $80 dollars. It makes a huge difference for some dogs that otherwise are extremely stressed out at the vet
When the two dogs started sniffing each other at the end would be the proper move if they did get aggressive towards in each other? It happens so fast and scares me to try it! (I was nervous watching that part). I have two pit bull mixes that a great but freak when seeing other dogs on the trails.
Don’t use a harness for training! The only time you should use a harness is on a very young puppy that is not being leash trained yet. Go with any other collar if you have to!
Nice job dude! I'm from Brazil and here don't have trainners good like you. I have two pibulls, male and female... The female has many problems... she is reactive, possessive... and she always starts an attack to male by possession of the objects... she already had three trainners, but nobody helped her... next year I gonna to NY and Massachusetts and I'm thinking to take them there... can you help me? I didn't find a house to rent that accepts them... you know anyone there? I want to take them to your center of trainner... thanks a lot!
take a link out of that prong! and place it higher. good work. distance may have been more your friend with the small dog or as you stated turning and moving away.
I have a strong 9 month pitmix puppy, have had him since he was 2 months old and he has gotten to be wonderful on a leash, walks beside me on a loose leash, except when he sees another dog, especially one of his buddies. He's not aggressive, he wants to play but i still can't have him yanking me off my feet. I shorten up on the leash and can control him that way but how do i teach him to greet other dogs calmly? I know part of it is the puppy energy but still I need to figure out how to curb this behavior. He gets plenty of socialization with dog friends in the neighborhood and at a very responsible doggie daycare. Any tips you can give me?
Tips on how to help my 6 month male lab to not be afraid of people places things. Resource guarding aggressive to my other dog and myself. I believe it’s fear based. Thank you
4:37 not trying to criticize and you probably didn't see it at that moment because you were looking at the other dog, but if im understanding it right, think she lunges ever so slightly up here and maybe could have snapped out of with a correction?
Adopted a 3yr old GSD rescue. Great dig! He is dog and ppl aggressive. How do I keep a loose leash when he is in attack ( I want to kill them) the minute we get out of the Jeep? I am using a correctly fitting Sprenger 3.0 but have a 2.5 coming this week, and always a muzzle. He has the potential so I know it’s me needing the training!!
I see that you’re in Del Mar where exactly are you at I would love to take my dog down there for a walk I’m about 15 minutes away awesome video I have a 14 month old black lab that I rescued that has the same issues with other dogs I’m working with her and she’s doing better but she still needs a lot of work I appreciate your videos
I am having a huge problem at home with my dogs. My 6 month old puppy (67 lb puppy) attacks my 2 year old (about same size) dogs ( 3 dogs total) seemingly out of the blue! Any suggestions? We believe we can help the situation we just need guidance!
It's interesting. Instinctively, I would have picked up my child if I saw a Rottweiler coming toward us. Natural response. I would not have considered the behavior, I would have looked at the breed. Great learning experience!
Awesome information 👍 😊 👌 Thank you very much!! Is this the same method of control and desensitization you'd recommend for a leash reactive UKC White Shepherd who'd never been leash reactive until she was attacked on leash? I've been walking and working her around dog populated areas, observing her's and other dog's body language, being a herding breed she's very aware of her surroundings and is she's scanning areas so I have to if you will think ahead of her while remaining calm. I ask her to look at me, turn, heel, etc.. Will a dog ever completely recover from leash being reactive? Thanks 😊
Ive been working on my dog and being reactive. There has been a lot of improvement. One of the things we are still struggling on is her being reactive on trails. She absolutely loves going on hikes. But sometimes when we pass by ppl with dogs she will bark and lung. A thing to note is the trails shes doing this on is when the walking space is very narrow. I usually will step off the trail with my dog to give some space between us and the passersby. I want to still be able to take her on hikes she loves it so much
omg ur awesome.u know it is the dog handlers that make those mistakes with the dogs.. ITs not the dog at all... I would like to be a dog trainer myself... by watching u gives me more experience of being a trainer. Im thinking about ABC College of being a dog trainer....
My sister has a boxer female that has never been around other dogs is there away I could help her get her dog acclimated to be around other dogs I have had some dog training
We have a 10 year old Great Pyrenees, 135 pounds, who is usually ok, but completely unpredictable when he decides to lunge, bark, and attempt to bite. His last encounter was with a 4 year old girl he lunged and snapped at. It earned him a “ Do Not Pet” harness. He’s so sweet, but I can see his eyes cut sideways and head lower when he’s about to attack... It’s not like a crazy, fast uncontrollable, attack. I can pull him back, but a short , quick bark and lunge and snap....can be dogs or people. He will take an aggressive dog down. ( He was attacked twice by the same German Shepherd 2 years ago and won)! Otherwise , he’s absolutely wonderful... a sugar bear. Any help would be awesome. Thank you so much!! I love your work!! I watch tons of your videos and I don’t watch many TH-cam videos. So informative! Thank you!
Ha I can relate to this, as I see another dog coming my way I feel myself building up hahaha sometimes my dog hasn’t even seen the other dog and I’m already reacting. I’v owned a few horses in my life and the best advice I’v ever heard was that horses live in he NOW, NOT the past so forget it. Forget the other dog, forget how my dog reacted the last time and treat every time as a new opportunity to succeed. It’s easier said than done but if I could handle a horse blowing up I will be able to handle a 65 lbs dog. I’m not concerned with my dog getting away from me so from a safety point of view the situation is under control, I also have an e collar that vibrates and works really well so whats our deal? We want to be in control of the situation and when our dogs blow up we feel like we failed. This was a great video
Thanks for this I do this with the dog I watch/ walk he is a lab/ pit bull mix we think I call him monster his name is tanner but I have trained him well and he listens to me when we walk the trail and other dogs come ahead of us/ passing us before we pass by each other I prepare him and give a tug on leash and say leave it wand we walk past other dogs no problem 😊🐶 and I sometimes ask the other owner if tanner can say hi it goes well I just say be gentle and he know that means no teeth just lick or sniff. I have trained him since he was a 8 week old puppy now he is two I am so proud of him he is such a good boy.
Bro your living your purpose and it’s beautiful 💪

That was great...so glad the owner got it!
THANK you for watching and commenting!
This is so helpful! I am having trouble finding Day 1 Part 1. Can someone post a link? Thank you!
That dog in the park at the 7 minute mark is a completely different dog, then the first one in the parking lot.
Amazing skills bro
NEVERgiveUP HARDWORKMUHPPY thank you!!!
When the two dogs started sniffing each other at the end would be the proper move if they did get aggressive towards in each other? It happens so fast and scares me to try it! (I was nervous watching that part). I have two pit bull mixes that a great but freak when seeing other dogs on the trails.
Would this work with a slip lead / collar or harness as I live in the UK and the prong collar's are illegal over here??
Don’t use a harness for training! The only time you should use a harness is on a very young puppy that is not being leash trained yet. Go with any other collar if you have to!
funky wolf You should never use a harness for leash training. It teaches them from day one to pull.
Alexis Willoughby That’s what pretty much what I said! 👍😊
Fabulous!
i appreciate YOU!
thanks Caroline!
Are there any wolf training videos out?
How can i get a leash you use? Or can i use any pronged collar?
Nice job dude! I'm from Brazil and here don't have trainners good like you. I have two pibulls, male and female... The female has many problems... she is reactive, possessive... and she always starts an attack to male by possession of the objects... she already had three trainners, but nobody helped her... next year I gonna to NY and Massachusetts and I'm thinking to take them there... can you help me? I didn't find a house to rent that accepts them... you know anyone there? I want to take them to your center of trainner... thanks a lot!
thanks for watching!
take a link out of that prong! and place it higher. good work. distance may have been more your friend with the small dog or as you stated turning and moving away.
It was a 3.0 and taking a link out would have been to small.
For a moment, I was confused when the rottie suddenly turned into a cane corso. lol
Your t-shirt says it all!
yUP!
Tips on how to help my 6 month male lab to not be afraid of people places things. Resource guarding aggressive to my other dog and myself. I believe it’s fear based. Thank you
Build confidence, sounds like you have a fearful dog making decisions.
Good dog 🐕
4:37 not trying to criticize and you probably didn't see it at that moment because you were looking at the other dog, but if im understanding it right, think she lunges ever so slightly up here and maybe could have snapped out of with a correction?
fetB Yes. He should have corrected her earlier than when he did.
Great place to be doing dog training. Wish I was there now.
Me too
4:57 I saw the shake. Shaking off that energy from not attacking little nippy yappy doggy. Good girl Sophie!
We believe we can help the situation we just need guidance!
brilliant
Thank you very much!
It's interesting. Instinctively, I would have picked up my child if I saw a Rottweiler coming toward us. Natural response. I would not have considered the behavior, I would have looked at the breed. Great learning experience!
Beautiful dog🥰
Hey at first it was Rottweiler but after it was Cane Corso. What is that all about?
Awesome information 👍 😊 👌
Thank you very much!!
Thanks 😊
thanks!! sure you can try this out and see how it works for you!
I want to still be able to take her on hikes she loves it so much
What happened to the rotti that was at the start?
Both of them are being trained seperately
Oh thanks. I thought I’d really missed something - suddenly there was a different dog and I missed the switch.
@@a.j.8120 🤣
Nice job, Tom~! Wish I had known you were going to be in town~. 😔
Doing great Tom. Less issues with this dog I think . Thanks : )
Thank you Laura!
omg ur awesome.u know it is the dog handlers that make those mistakes with the dogs..
Thanks for watching, much appreciated!
Im actually amazed at the rotties reactiveness to the heel and sit commands.
great....train in everyday things.
One of the most beautyful Corso i have ever seen
Thanks so much! :)
