What makes this game stand out is that it runs at 60fps. Took till 2003 (11 years after its release) till the next Mario Kart game matched that smooth silky framerate.
I always wonder how developers had designed a racing game for fun based on the Super Mario series. Mario developed racing courses in the Mario universe based on the classic video game series where this is how it all started.
Thank you, I’ve been combing through retro games lately and I have not found any coverage of these titles with as much depth and honesty as your reviews
Stumbled upon the channel with the Wolfenstein review, hooked with this review. Appreciate your work, looking forward to diving into more! So far as Super Mario Kart is concerned, it is definitely a classic and has aged surprisingly well. With the advances in emulation like BSNES’s Mode 7 upscaling and widescreen support, for example, the game may just have new life yet. Even entirely vanilla, it’s a fun play-through and a must play to scratch that nostalgia itch. Thank you again for your work!
This was mine and my brother's competitive game. Whenever I play it, I remember how the two of us would sit in front of a CRT monitor glued to the screen.
I think Mario is very important to video game history and the early games defined what it meant to be a platformer. I just wish that every time nintendo had a unique idea they didn't just work it into the Mario franchise (talking more about newer stuff not Kart, which is also a very influential series) but that's honestly just how they do things. (1)Come up with ideas (2)See which existing IP it best works with (3)Limit the amount of new IPs because familiar=money. Not to say the never have new IPs (Splatoon amd such) but taking an interesting mechanic but then limiting it by forcing it into an existing franchise does limit what they could possibly do with that new idea.
Liked Mario kart for the most part but never liked how the game punished you for being in first place. Kart drives slower in 1st place and items generated to garbage bananas and coins. Why should you be punished for playing good ??😂
I've never really played Super Mario Kart. My first mario kart was 64, i didn't even know the snes game existed until later. The first Mario Kart I owned and played a lot of was Double Dash. Going back to Super Mario Kart just felt like such a downgrade that I never really tried to play it more than a couple times. Also, I like SMW quite a bit, but I don't know if I'd really call it "one of the best games ever". I think it has aged quite a bit. It is still good but these days feels incredibly vanilla.
Personally, I don´t think that it holds up. The terrible Design choices with the AI where acceptable back then because games back then often where designed as if they are a Arcade machine, but something like a Contra, Mega Man or Castlevania can be learned and dealt with because while they are hard, they are still fair and based on repeating patterns that the player can adapt with, Mario Kart is just unfair. Plus the fact that Item boxes don´t refresh at least in Battle Mode had caused way too many battles to end in a Draw because we ran out of Items to grab.
I love your channel dude. You review whatever, whenever and it rocks.
i second this

"the game doesn't have bugs or issues". a reviewer from 2022 amazed to see a realased game properly working 😂

Yes this game totally holds up. Toad Baby! Them drift turns is the best.
Toad and Koopa Troopa.
@@Gamingpastime64 yoshi sense day 1
@@Gamingpastime64 Oh Definitely Koopa Troopa. He's the closest thing to Toad. My older brother would always pick Toad so KT definitely grew on me.

nintendo should make a "new super mario kart" in 2d like super mario bros et tropical freeze proved there is a demand for 2d.
Such a beautiful game ...
i played this exclusively in black and white because my friend had the SNES and no color TV back in 1993
My favourite game of all time.
it's gaming pasta time

Nice watch!
Gahhh... the nostalgia is flowing through my blood
this is great
Still the best of the series im my opinion. I like a challenge in my GP and the others don't have that.

Oh hell yeah!

i never was and still am not a huge fan of the mario kart series. i just can't stand the AI in any of the games
They couldn't have waited till the next day to pick up the cartridge? XD

The most overrated series from Nintendo.
