    Tons of people are DMing for the cable to connect to the computer and the motherboard (module). What you need is a midi cable that connects to USB. It should already come with the EAD10. If not, they’re pretty cheap on Amazon. Stay safe!

    I have the EAD along with other individual instrument mics, and the EAD is the heart of the operation. Stereo customizable XY mics, mixed with an overhead pair, and a couple instrument mics. That EAD is a beast though! I use it live too out of an amp or PA for live playing,, for an instant mic setup at a gig where drums need a little micing. The EAD is great, very true with the sound it captures, captures it from the middle of the kit which sounds much different than "airy" overheads or a room mic. Also, it puts those sample sounds as a digital processing signal on top of the normal timbre of your drums. An EAD, a couple overheads and a kick mic for honest kick tone and not a triggered sound, a snare mic, a room mic, and then mixing them together. The EAD is a BEAST! Practice with it, record with it, use the recNshare app if you just want to only post covers (which I don't), and it captures great sound from this middle out. Pairing those with a L and R overhead; you have 2 stereo pairs to use, plus I use a Sure Beta 91a for my kick. Awesome video! Thing is super useful! Thanks for the video! I got mine originally after an older video of you, where I saw where you used one. So glad I did, thing has SO many capabilities! I use it for practicing and for my students too. I hardly ever use any sampled sounds on it and just use as stereo condenser mics, but I really love my EAD! Thanks Zach! You inspired me to get one, and I'm very glad I did! Fantastic way to easily mic, takes 15 seconds to install. You can also bypass all reverb, trigger, and effects and just use them as purely condenser mics by hitting each button under the LED screen, click bypass, then exit on all 3. The lights will start flashing, then it acts purely as a stereo mic pair. Happy drumming! Works GREAT! As far as a quick and dirty mic setup that's stereo and gives true sound from the center for the kit; the EAD is phenomenal! Totally worth the 500! Getting this and pairing it with a cheap drum mic setup is the best of both worlds in my opinion. Gives you great control of mixing!

      @blakenunndrums
      Yeah I was trying to work out how to set up a condenser and add to ead10 in input 5 or 6, because I have the sd50 dual trigger on snare 3/4. I actually have an extra trigger I might add floor tom on 5.
      But I wanted to add a condenser mic to ead near my hihat and splash area, so I tried to hook up to 6. I'm new to it still. Couldn't find a single vid with anyone adding their own mics to ead on YT.
      The manual didn't discuss that.

      Can you add extra mics to the EAD module?

    • @blakenunndrums
      @blakenunndrums 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@teddycampbellband2648 You can't add mics to the actual unit/brain itself, only triggers or pads. The way I use it with other mics is like you would with any other multi-mic setup, with an interface and DAW. I just use it as a part of my whole sound, and plug the left and right into 2 inputs on my interface, and then the EAD is mixed in with the rest of the individual instrument mics. So, no...lol. But I will say, even after all this time, 14 different mics, a 16 input interface, and all that; I find myself coming back to the EAD more than anything else I have for recording. If you're just posting ideas, trying to remember something, feel like sitting down and immediately recording yourself without mixing and editing audio and video together, practicing, covers, etc; the EAD is definitely where it's at. It's almost as fast as plugging in a USB mic into your phone (which I also do with a Shure MV88). It's basically this: 1) a cheap full kit mic package and interface like a T-bone mics setup, 2) the EAD, or 3) a multi-thousand dollar "pro" level home setup. The EAD also has 3 other functions that none of those other platforms offer for practicing, posting, and playing live. I've used it on a DW Frequent Flyer bop kit setup on gigs before, and you can make a schlepping bop kit sound like a full-sized concert kit with a 22" bass drum with it. I highly recommend it, and use it more than anything else eventhough I have a much more precise (and time-consuming and expensive) setup.

    As an audio engineer, your mix method 100% how it's done. My professor always preached about "goldilocks it." Whether it's EQ, Compression, or any FX.
    Crank it all the way up, ew no...
    Crank it all the way down, i can't hear it...
    Turn it up a little, a bit much...
    Turn it down a little, needs more
    Touch it up, just right👌.
    My minimal drum mic setup is using the Glyn Johns method for my drum demos, cuz i only got 2 condensers and i like roomy sounding drums. One look over my left shoulder down at snare, the other looking over the floor tom at snare. measure them so they're both the same distance from the snare to make sure they're in phase, done.

    YES! I used to do that to record my drums back in the 80's!
    I had a mike from an old Phillips portable reel tape deck and plugged into my little Casio boom box.
    I'd tape the mike to the batter side hoop and make sure the end of the mike protruded just past it.
    Worked great!
    The hats and cymbals were a little weak, but everything came out surprisingly well.
    I thought it was pretty good for single mike recording.

    I honestly prefer this sound to the modern day hyper production methods and over mic'ing used more commonly now a days. It's one of the reasons old jazz has that sweet, subtle, perfect mix of toms, snare, and bright singing ride cymbols.
    Also, instead of boosting your highs and lows, try leaving them flat, and cutting the mid a bit. It probably will sound even better if you cut the highs some, the mids a bit less and leave the low at no cut, no boost. Additive EQ tends to color the overall sound and harmonics where cutting will just remove the sounds/harmonics getting in the way

I’m getting it from another church and it comes with a drum shield and 6 mics. The problem is I only have a two input interface because I also produce music (it’s in my channel if you want to look ;) and I don’t want to spend so much on a new interface, so using atleast two mics would be useful if I want to record anything at all. Hell yah man! I have the EAD- and you just re-inspired it! Also, works dope with silken stroke heads and cyms for quiet practice with real tones!

    EAD10 is pretty good. But I found it sounds better if the device is not attached to the kick drum. Especially small size kick drum. Because the vibration of the drum will affect the mic. I use another stand to keep it in the air a little in front of the kick drum and the kick drum sounds much more original, however in this way you can't make the trigger work. If you only want a natural drum sound just try this !!

    I already knew that I wanted to get the ead10. But seeing the whole mixing process at the end really solidified the fact that I want one.

    Love the fact he removed the reverb from the EAD but added it again in GarageBand.

      Because he EQ's in GB, it's damn near impossible to EQ the drums how you want without adversely affecting your reverb.

    2 years late. But to add for those of you who have to use mesh heads and low volume cymbals on your acustic kit/home kit: you can use this for practice. It’s awsome. I would advice getting at least a trigger for your snare in addition. Yamaha has ready made firmware on their site especially tuned for this setup. The EAD10 is worth its weight in gold imo.
    Edit: I use Yamaha DTS50 triggers for all my drums on my silent practice kit. But it’s not really needed for practice and expensive. Another tip if you use mesh heads is using a little duct tape on the heads to get a more real response(it lessens the heads ability to stretch/contract) and gives a bit more sound(keeps a bit more air in the drums after a stroke).

    Very nice, sir. I'm always looking for new ways to mic things. Never knew about this mic. Yamaha should send you more, or a check at least, cause I'm sure you just sold a few. I know I'm going to buy one.

    Fun fact: apparently El Estepario Siberiano uses the same mic. this sounds crisp as fr*ck in every style, hard hits, quiet hits... if I ever get in a band i will buy this on behalf of my drummer for that *tasty* audio.

    This works great for drum tutorials for TH-cam but in a studio your still going to want a nice set of drum mics so you can adjust each piece of the drums in the mix. Good video man
