As always, you are the master and this shows why you were so influential when I picked the A5X years ago. I'm jealous at how quickly you removed rhe back. Also glad to see you liked the pen loop and half-folio, I appreciate the call back to the rail on the A5X. Thanks for getting this out there.

I appreciate your efforts so much! Because I was so interested in this device I have been watching videos from other reviewers while waiting for yours and all I can say is thank you for your attention to detail: for getting your camera focused on the device screen, and for spending time in documents and writing so that viewers can really see how the device performs. I know this is not your in-depth review, but you have already given me a much clearer idea of the A5X2 than any of the other (some much longer) videos on this that I have seen.💜

The sensation of writing on the A5X2 is reminiscent of writing with a rollerball pen that I used a lot at the University when I had to do a lot of handwriting and writing speed was crucial during lectures.

It's just an "Unboxing and First Impressions" video, but already has deep insights and objective comments, much more than many other videos which feel like indirect commercials, so thank you so much for keeping this spirit safe! I really am looking forward for your opinion on the battery life and much more remarks on the device when you have tested it fully. The device is out of stock and no pre-order available on the Supernote online shop anyway (such a bad launch management for Europe), so I will be patient for your full review!

I sent my Remarkable Pro back for this, just a few days before the 100-day guarantee limit. In the end the color display was more a gimmick than really useful for me, and its lacking features I really wanted that the Supernote has. So the decision was relatively easy for me. It comes tomorrow, so I'm just here trying to validate my purchase decisions and to handle my impatience. :D

@@dhrtiwalter8670 A bigger example for me, the offline based realtime handwriting recognition. The Remarkable can only convert handwriting to text if you ask it to, and never offline. It then creates a new page with the generated text but this doesn't really help you much.. The supernote does this in realtime. You can not search converted text on the Remarkable. You have to tag pages and search for those - which annoys me heavily. With the supernote you can do a full-text search on these texts. It sometimes feels like they try to sell this minimalism at Remarkable, but are actually just lazy software wise. I work in software too, so many things I write down are technical things I don't want to tag every day. And at the end of the day I want an easy way to send these converted texts to my team, which with Remarkable always feels like a hassle. The writing feel on the Remarkable is phenomenal and the color display rules if you actually want colors. But it just lacks feature wise. Same with gestures, the requirement of needing a subscription even if you want to use other Cloud providers. Its perfect digital paper yes, but nothing more, nothing less imo.

Great first impression video! Really excited for this device. The Book Go was a nice device, but it felt very busy and overwhelming for someone wanting to just have a second brain. The lack of easy custom template support ruled out the RMPP for me, so this seems like the perfect device for that use case!

...the comments around plastic and not being made of glass or metal is great hear and I completely agree...for me I still don't even get why iPhones have stupid glass backs on them when everyone just pops them in a case...so for devices like these to be well made with robust materials to me just makes them feel more like everyday devices not fashion pieces...

How is the anti-aliasing on the Manta? Is the writing as clean as it is on the recent Boox devices (e.g., Air 4C or Go 10.3)? From one of your earlier videos it was clear that the Boox devices have much cleaner handwriting and less pixelation, and the Nomad wasn't quite as good. Wondering if the Manta improved this deficiency.

thank you so much for posting such an depth first take. When you do your full review, could you add the following: 1) when you reviewed the original supernote A5x, you said that writing on it felt more like pen on paper (whereas remarkable felt more like pencil on paper). How does this feel in comparison? 2) The curved back - how is it in terms of writing on surface (will there be issues of wobbling or stability)? I bought the A5x based on your review, and love it. Now, I want to decide if I should upgrade to the A5x2 Manta.

When you do a deep dive can you please explore the use case of a writer: the work flow associated with writing multiple pages that then get transcribed. Then you write a few more pages ... and transcribe. Etc. Everyone explores notetaking, but not _writing._ And this device is meant to cater to writers and that means lengthy writing sessions that eventually get pumped to a digital text document. And then editing workflow on PDFs and EPUBs. Also … organization of documents. For example, books are written scene by scene or section by section. Usually each being a separate document.
Anyway. Looking forward to the deep dive. Thanks

Writers need a lot of real estate to scribble on and are not picky about what they write on -- Faulkner used to write ideas on kitchen napkins. Supernote organizes and takes notes, with cross-referencing features. All that's super, but comes secondary and AFTER the writer is able to free-write their thoughts on draft. I wouldn't recommend these expensive devices for the purpose of writing. They're all glorified organizers.

    • @t0dd000
      @t0dd000 หลายเดือนก่อน

@HumbleSeaGoat I wouldn't recommend using the kitchen napkin method for writing your stories. ;) We will use anything in a pinch, and that will never change, but …
      _"For those who write."_
I have written hundreds of thousands of words of prose and poetry on notebook after notebook after notebook after notebook. I see a great benefit in the merging of the analogue with the digital-if done well.
The Supernote was specifically designed with the writer in mind. That is their leading marketed use case, though I never see it really demoed. (Maybe it is and I just haven't seen it ) I tried the Boox Note Air 3c, but it was an awful experience and I returned it. I have a Supernote on order, but I'd like to hear the experiences of other people.

      As for organization for writers:
      - each document is a scene
      - multiple scenes make a chapter
      - multiple chapters make a part (if you use parts; you might in your manuscript)
      - multiple parts (or chapters) make a book
And then of course you have sets of documents and things for …
      - world
      - character
      - background information
      - political environment
      - etc

Voja, great first take on the Manta. When you do the full review can you do one simple test, hang the device by holding it by the long edge of the folio only to see if the latches remain engaged. If you want to do a little jiggling for fun to see if they release that would be interesting to see. I like they went with metal pins and latches for the folio, just wondering if it can be pulled out easily or if there is some resistance or lock in place to keep the folio from being forced out. I understand someone could possibly rip it out so not looking for a tensile strength lol, just want to see if under minimal strain it releases. Thank you for all you do.

Thanks for the video. It's great. When do you think the A5X2 will come out with the crystal clear back that is screwed in? How long was it before other the A6X2 sold the crystal clear back after they started selling the opaque back? The crystal clear back seems to be a more durable solution. It looks like it is worth the extra money.
Also, do you think that Ratta will upgrade their A6X2 to get rid of the glass (and make it a better writing experience) and make it so that it makes much less false page turns?
I currently have a Kindle Scribe. I am not sure if I will upgrade to the Supernote A5X2. Maybe my Kindle is good enough. I mostly use it for reading. The Supernote A5X2 seems much better in every way that you look at it. Kindle are very slow at upgrading the software. The improvements that Kindle make to the software are very minor and take a long time before they come out. They are not serious about upgrading their product. Supernote takes the opposite view and are very good from what I see in the videos here on TH-cam.

The crystal addition launched on the same day as the opaque Nomad. I have the Manta in hand and just how it’s constructed, I doubt it will get a crystal back at all.

Does it work with a bluetooth pedal? As a classical musician, that has to practise many hours a day, I would love to have e-ink for my eyes. Musicians would be an important target group, that these companies still are not fully aware of yet.. There are some devices, but not perfect.. I am searching for 1) a big enough screen, though good to carry around, 2) possibility for a bluetooth pedal to turn pages with, 3) maybe color would be nice. Boox would work for a pedal but the privacy issues are not ideal. The go 10.3 is too small, the note max too big and perhaps fragile. Remarkable PP has a good size but lacks possibility for a pedal. but it has color.... I would love a slightly bigger Supernote device with full android. that would be awesome:) with color even more.. :D

Uh, I did not expect it behave so badly with images and shades.
Still seems like a great device but definitely not for me: too high price (in Europe but honestly also in the US), no front light, inexplicably separate notebooks and drawing app, and even more inexplicable lack of tilt support. That lackluster shade reproduction is the final nail in the coffin for me :(

Pen loop on top or left side - where it is would not have been my first choice - maybe move to the left side and then put another adhesive loop below it for the barrel of the pen to keep it from wiggling since it seems the right slide bar is probably used more than the left slide bar.

Why would they lose market share? As a writing device, it's exceptional. If you're looking for an organizer, go with the Supernote. If you keep adding bells and whistles to these things, just get an iPad and be done with it.

    Wonderful review, as always.
I like the device and particularly the potential upgradability. That said, there a few problems I have with purchasing the Manta. First and foremost is the lack of any kind of backlight. Under bright office or studio lighting, I'm confident the screen will look wonderful. But anything less than bright light will likely be very disappointing. How do I know this? Because I bought the Boox Go 10.3. The Boox Go is also an excellent device, but the lack of a backlight is VERY noticeable under anything other than ideal lighting conditions.
I also own the Boox Note Air 3c. The Note Air is my working device for reading and writing under ANY lighting conditions. I would also add that the functionality of the Boox devices is far beyond anything you can do on the Manta. While my Note Air is largely dedicated to reading and writing, it is occasionally useful to be able to do other things and again, to do so regardless of lighting conditions. Finally, I would offer than as an alternative to the SuperNote Nomad, I went with the Boox Mini-C. The availability of the backlight was the primary driver in that decision. The Boox Mini is the device I use as a daily driver. I have been amazed at the functionality and even the battery life of the device. It has exceeded all of my expectations.
When all is said and done, I would simply offer that I firmly believe a backlight is a far more important 'feature' than often stated on TH-cam reviews. The simple backlight should not be a "feature" on any of these devices. What it should be is an industry standard, common to ALL e-ink devices.

    • @islamegy
      @islamegy หลายเดือนก่อน

@@horseman1956 I disagree with the backlight as industry standard. Some of these devices are primarily for writing notes and since eink display doesn't really support backlight and its more of a front light, it increases the space in-between the writing surface and the actual screen and really impacts the whole writing experience. I would always prioritize the writing experience over readability in dark conditions.

Manta is a true example of design over functionalities, and thus over-priced as such...compare to A5X's unpretentious, Manta and Nomad are a lot more fancy and garish, with little added features or improvements over the last few years
