This engine is about 150yrs old maybe 125yrs..it can't be outperformed and it will last and keep running for another 1000yrs if maintained correctly. Not even a debate of it
This is a Pakistani made Baba G. Mughal engine, it might not be that old. These people copied what Europeans brought over to their country 150 years ago and stuck with that technology without making any substantial changes for decades.

There's no horizontal oil engines on narrowboats. Most vintage engines used are post 1930's much later than this engine , only half a dozen or less pre WW1 hot bulb engines exist on narrowboats.

Once I went to a water tank distribution museum and they had a made in USA water pump running that have been running 99.9% time since 1930.. They are waiting for the anniversary. Only bearing changes, nothing else. A beautiful, cast by hand heavy body, very well made copper coil. A beauty. (We are talking about 30kw water pump.. it's huge). Sadly, in the video those guys don't do it for the joy, they just make use of those once abandoned machines..

Stationary Engines, small and large have a very big following in Australia, they are being recovered from swampy lagoons, rivers and shearing sheds where they've sat idle for many years, Then restored back to life. The external camshafts, tappets etc just make them appear to be a living machine when it's running. The rallies held where they are all run intermittently are great stuff.
Under load they don't run intermittently. I'm sure you know that but not everyone does. These engines were designed to run for many hours at a time. Maybe even a full workweek with 3 shifts per day. They probably didn't have to deal with nearly as many thermal cycles as car engines, lawn mower engines or other small engines.

Not economical by any means just because it lasts ... now we have precise machining, timing, nozzles, valves, fuel etc. that raise efficiency to unbelievable levels... the only amazing fact about this particular engine is that it still works ...

So apart from slightly less pollution (which folks in India don't give a rat's about) we've actually gone backwards with a massive increase of self-defeating complexity along with poorer quality and reliability. It's an over-all loss. The "Keep it Simple" rule applies.

Industrial machinery is designed to make replacement of wear items much easier even if those wear items don't last as long as their counterparts in ordinary consumer products. I'm sure that thing has gone through many piston rings, cylinder liners, and rod bearings in its life. You can replace those same parts on modern consumer-grade cars but no one wants to.
I worked at an old sawmill that had a similar engine running the saw and conveyor. It was sketchy as hell. There was a meth head guy who would throw bits of wood into the wheel and laugh his ass off. You would be working and suddenly there's a piece of wood whizzing past your head. I complained about him but he was the boss's son. So I got fired instead.
Grown up, seeing these engines. We had them in our sugar factory. First engine, we had was English Ruston and after that it was Brook, then Robson and finally Genico.

ਸਟਾਟ ਹੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਪੰਜ ਸੱਤ ਮਿੰਟ ਹਲਕਾ ਮੁਗਲੈਲ ਵਧਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਪੂਰਾ ਗਰਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਫਿਰ ਘਟਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੋਟਰਸਾਈਕਲ ਦੀ ਚੌਕ ਲਾ ਸਟਾਟ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਾਣੀ ਕੱਢਦੇ ਸਨ ਇਹ ਜਿਨਾਂ ਤੇਜ ਕਰੋਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਵੱਧ ਇਨਾਂ ਇੰਜਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਤਲ ਦੇ ਪੁਰਜੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕੲਈ ਵਾਰ ਚੌਰ ਪਿੱਤਲ ਹੀ ਲਾਹ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ ਬਹੁਤ ਯੲਦ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਇਹ ਇੰਜਣ ਇਸ ਟਾਇਮ ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੱਕੀ ੳਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਤੇ ਬੋਰ ਤੇ ਵੀ ਚੱਲਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਛੇ ਇੰਚ ਦਾ ਪੲਇਪ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਥੱਲੇ ਹਰ ਇੱਕ ਆਦਮੀ ਸਿਰ ਥੱਲੇ ਕਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਹਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਸੀ ਐਨਾ ਪਰੈਸ਼ਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਚਲਾ ਘੁੱਗੂ ਲਾਕੇ ਫਿਰ ਅਰਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਣੀ ਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਸੀ ਜੇਕਰ ਪਟਾ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਜਾਂ ਕੁੱਝ ਹੋਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਤਾ ਇੰਜਣ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਤੇਜ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਫਿਰ ਘੁੱਗੂ ਤੋਂ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਸੀ ਵੀ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਗਨ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ ਇੰਜਣ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਹੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਇੰਜਣ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਜਾ ਫਿਰ ਹੋਲੀ ਕ, ਨੁਕਸ ਨੀਕ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਇੰਜਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਰ ਇੱਕ ੲਦਮੀ ਜਿਸ ਕੋਲ ਇਹ ਇੰਜਣ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਉਹ ਅੱਧੇ ਤੋਂ ਜਿਆਦਾ ਮਿਸਤਰੀ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ ਇਹ ਇੰਜਣ ਚੱਕੀ ਕੋਹਲੂ ਅਤੇ ਰੂੰ ਵਾਲਾ ਪੇਜਾ ਚੋਲ ਕੱਢਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਸ਼ੀਨ ਸਾਰੇ ਇੱਕ ਸਮੇਂ ਚਾਲੁ ਕਰ ਵੀ ਖਿਚਾਈ ਬੜੇ ਅਰਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਦਾ ਸੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਜਾ ਸਹਿਰਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਅੱਜ ਵੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੋਣ ਇਹ ਇੰਜਣ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਖੂਬਸੂਰਤ ਇੰਜਣ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਵੲਰ ਥੋੜੇ ਚੱਕਰ ਪਾ ਟੱਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਪੰਪ ਮਾਰ ਦੇਣਾ ਜਲਦੀ ਜਲਦੀ ਫਿਰ ਇੱਕ ਬੰਦਾ ਵੀ ਚਲਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਕੲਈ ਵਾਰ ਤਾ ਇਹ ਚਾਰ ਚਾਰ ਬੰਦੇ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਇਹ ਟੱਸ ਤੋਂ ਮੱਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ ਫਿਰ ਬੰਤੀ ਲਾਉਣੀ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਸੰਨ ਨੱਬੇ ਦੇ ਦਸੰਬਰ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਹੀ ਵੇਚ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੋਟਰ ਦੇ ਕੁਨੈਕਸ਼ਨ ਮਿਲ ਗੲਏ ਸਨ ਇਸ ਇੰਜਣ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਲੋਕ ਦੋ ਵੀਲਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਵੀ ਕਹਿ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਇਹ ੲਇੰਜਣ
