A Roguelike Dungeon Crawler RPG with pixel art graphics. Every game is a unique challenge, with four different playable characters, randomized levels and enemies, and hundreds of items to collect and use. The game is simple to get into, but strategy is required if you want to win!

Shattered Pixel Dungeon is finally releasing on Steam after almost 8 years of development! I intend to give Shattered Pixel Dungeon several features before releasing it on Steam, so that Steam users get a first-class experience:
A new interface mode that takes advantage of larger displays.
New functionality in the main UI (instead of sub-menus) such as inventory, enemy info, and more quickslots!
Better mouse interaction, including tooltips and right-click menus.
Partial controller support, with full support planned for the future.

I've always played the base pixel dungeon, didn't know there were mods for it
A few tips.
1. Potions besides damaging ones can never be identified by throwing them.
2. Weapons will have lower accuracy if you don't have the strength for them, armor lowers your movement speed if you don't have the strength, also the armor might not block damage.
3. Any negative effects scale with your level so you should yolo drink and read scrolls earlier in runs, the later you do it the more damage you could potentially take.
4. There are 2 potions of strength every 5 floors and approximately 3 scrolls of upgrade.
5. Death equals knowledge.
6. Have fun and experiment.

while it is fun, to me his thought process for a roguelike is weird, what roguelikes other than probably a random one have diff combat on a stream tile? if you want to check if it's a trap imho you ALWAYS click on it to try and disarm not walk over it, throwing undientified potions? no, literally always drink at first to discover them, while i get that some games make snakes spit, most of them are melee yet his first thought was ranged? doesnt know or understand stuff but often ignores the chat box that gives A LOT of info, also alot of interface icons he seems to ignore (hovering usually 99% of time gives info),
anyway admitely i'm only 8min in, i don't necesarily consider myself a good gamer but a decent one at the lest, yet i never understood how ppl whoose livelihood is playing a "million" games a year and showing/explaining mechanics, don't seem to learn/remember basic ways to interact with a kind of game?
it feels like watching so many decade old gamers with a controller with a very limited amount of buttons, not know how to do basic actions when all it takes is literally pushing each of the

Addition to #2. If a strength value in your inv is red, you don't have the strength for it.
And enemies like flies, necromancer, vampire bat, and dwarf meatballs (i forgot name) is 100% drop heal potion
Your tip #1 is wrong. If you throw a bottle of liquid flame, frost, toxic gas, paralytic gas or purification the effect will activate, and assuming you passed kindergarten you now know the colored potion you just threw is the effect that broke out of the bottle. Remember that for later
I used to play the original pixel dungeon on my phone in 2013, one of my favorite traditional roguelites. The mechanics of the items are the reason I love Vagante now

i saw the steam release for this game, i've been playing all versions and mods of pixel dungeon on android since 2014 and this is by far the best one, I'm very happy it's coming to steam

- you can walk diagonally around traps
- you can identify objects by throwing them into the ? well
- you can burn the wooden barricades to unlock secret rooms
- most dead ends are not dead ends and should be searched

Also there are NO traps in water. Water is safe place even if you drink liquid fire potion.
@@hawkblade9478 this also includes any tiles with grass or embers and any special floor tiles like wood too. The only tiles where traps can be are standard tiles.

it's recommended you drink the potions early on, you're looking for potions of strenght to improve your character :)

man, i would never imagine you would one day play this game! yes, its an absolutely cult classic, and expect everything in the book for the game to screw you over. because the game might have been released recently, but the gameplay is absolutely a decade old
Been playing so much of this on mobile. Super excited for it to hit PC. I have a lot to say but I'm sure the comment section is already telling Reto every little misstep. Hope you enjoy the game.
the original pixel dungeon was what started both me and my little sisters love for roguelike games (also one of the coolest soundtracks to a game) and moved to shattered pixel dungeon as soon as it got onto IOS so much love for this game its many secrets and huge amount of content and fun combat especially with the bosses. Honestly if you are after an incredible roguelike that can be played on your phone I couldn't recommend this higher! BIG LOVE 🚀

I play this game for 3 years now and OMG I was fucking CRYING with the sound of STRENGHT POTIONS being SMASHED on the floor!!! This game is literally impossible w/o str potions, you cant use equipment, the run was lost on the first minute xD *Please play Rogue's Tale, best rogue ever made *GOO heals on WATER
At around 2:08 when you say "joy" with a "ch" emphasis, like "choy"--you're making choir directors/teachers everywhere very happy. Keep ut up!

Angry ghosts can be struck when you sneak attack them, and angry ghosts (wraiths) come from grave robbing (interaction with grave)
Ever since i discovered this game i have it on my phone, i was there early stages and keep updating more than 5 years later! this is by far one of my all time favourites
Okay, this is a day old so giving you tips is necessary, here we go:
My experience is with the mage only
-You start with a staff, don't worry about the imbue ability on it till you get a wand, preferable a wand you will use super often
-if you find an upgrade Scroll, use it on the staff automatically till its lvl 7, at this point it's a tough melee weapon+a well ammo'd range weapon
-You get a dew pouch. You can store up to 20 drops but you'll only need 4-6 for a good sized heal. If you get 20 dew SAVE IT FOR NOW!!!
-Later you can buy a golden ankh from the shop keep for I think 900gold. If you click the ankh and bless it with a full 20 filled dew vial, you will get an instant rez on death right on the spot, no lost items health back the whole shebang
-don't use potions till you fully understand your surroundings. Many trap rooms can be solved with a potion, like levitation across large gaps to reach a chest, or to avoid floors entirely covered in traps. Invisibility potions work for the pirannah rooms. Take your best guess which potion is correct when your right at the room you'd need a potion for, so if you're right you get the most use out of it
-HUNGER is not as bad as you'd think. At red you lose 1hp per couple steps and that's it. You can out heal that with freshly picked dewdrops or just wait to use a health potion.
-flies and necromancers drop health potions. If you kill one of those and it drops a potion even if you didn't identify it you KNOW its a health potion.
-Albino rats crabs fish and others will drop raw meat. If the tile raw meat is on catches fire. The meat cooks! Pro tip: if you get a potion of liquid flame you know there's a Burnable door on the level, grab up a bunch of raw meat and toss it by the door, then toss your liquid flame! Open door and cooked food in one shot!
-Green seeds, when thrown, put a heal plant on the ground. This is a long powerful heal, that gets destroyed the moment you move. You can shoot and do anything else BUT move. Same goes for the brown seed.
-let's learn about identify and remove curse scrolls. You don't always need both. If you gamble and wear something and no text pops up, no gasp, and no special particles, good news it's not cursed. You can identify It over time with use. If you use remove curse on something, you don't really have to inspect it to know its safe to wear. If it's a ring or wand I might want to know more about it though.
-you can equip artifacts, which might spawn special items to specifically upgrade them on pickup throughout the dungeon. Inspect the item in your inventory to see what said item will be.
-Doors will be your friend. If an enemy steps through a door and you melee them, you get bonus accuracy. Snakes are super hard to hit unless you do this trick or use Magic. Doors break line of sight, after a few steps monsters will lose focus and wander off. Closed doors block gas from leaking through. Doors are flammable. Doors can be shot open yet enemies still get the hit modifier for walking through doors. Doors are very important

-wand of warding is best used preemptively in a room then dragging enemies back in. Wards can be shot again with the ward wand to level them up, at 4 shots they become an immobile minion you heal by, again, Shooting it with the ward wand. The shots hurt more the bigger the ward turret is.
-Living earth wand needs a few shots to activate, but when it does it spawns a guardian on an immediate empty space next to the enemy, if no space exists no guardian comes out. The guardian will move to the target you last shot with the living earth wand and attack it. Drawing attention in the process shooting any enemy with the living earth wand will heal the guardian, and if the guardian does not see a target for 2 turns it will powderize into a shield around you, ready to be shot out again on the next shot
-wand of corrosion causes a spreading gas cloud that causes decent damage, fire it next to an unaware enemy, then turn 2 they'll be in the cloud realizing it's too late.
That moment when a run gives you +1 scale armor and living earth wand, then you use a stylus on the scale and get obfuscation, then you get a Scroll of transmutation, use it on your default staff and get a staff of warding

I recently got into roguelikes and I can't get enough of them. Added it to my wishlist on Steam. Had it on my phone for a while now but I'm glad this'll be on PC!
Tips:
Drink the potions, just do it with high health, the almost never kill you if you have good heal and are near a door and water.
2. Save the scrolls of upgrade, for mage you should put it all in the staff but for other classes save some and use only as much as you need until you get a good weapon
3. Keep seeds, dont use for potions unless you know what you want to make, like healing potions
4. keep starflower seeds, can make potions of upgrade
5. Use sneak attacks as much as you can, it does extra dmg.
And 6, try and get EVERYTHING from ever floor, trust me
This game is a real blast. I have played it on mobile, now that it's coming to Steam, well, I must pick it up there.
oh i remember this one! an absolute gem this is. if i recall this is the one that guarantees a food drop each floor so starvation shouldn't be too bad. hope you have fun!

One friendly reminder:
NEVER let your hunger level get to red.
You lost so many life points by starving that was making me uncomfortable.
You're just fine eating when the orange hunger shows. Normally there will be enough rations throughout the game, if you consider strange meats and honey+health potions.
AND, you can move diagonally.
Both to escape from the Ooze blast and to evade floor traps.
Nah, his eating was good. As he said you waste hunger by eating at full health.

I know I'm a little late to the party, but I love this game and would love to see you do more. The developer is constantly updating the game, so there is more to see!
I haven't played a ton of roguelikes, but I'm digging the Steam demo if this one. Finally got a Rogue to level 11 after many deaths. I can't tell if you can save and quit, though...So, I've just let the game sit idle for a bit while I do other things. It did take me awhile to figure out seeds, potions, and surprise attacks, but when it clicks, it clicks.
Good, simple, classic style game, IMO.
You really should drink every potion you find, though...The worst that'll happen is fire damage, and you could be getting +1's to strength...You're STR is at 10 when you start (for everyone) so you take a penalty if your STR is too low. that's why the numners in the upper right corner of your equipped items are red instead of white.
My tip. Use de magnifying glass icon on new enemys or tiles you don-t know what they do.
In your run, that would had explained that the wraiths (black ghost) are extremly evasive so you have to surprise attack them, what the question mark tile did, and that the Goo (Black slime) healed on whater tiles.
And i beg you... don-t trow more potions on the ground. It was crushing my soul the tought that you could have ben wasting strenght potions. There are only 2 strenght potions and 3 upgrade scrolls every zone (every zone is made of 5 floors. 4 floors of normal enemys an the las 1 with the zone boos).
Strenght potions and upgrade scrolls are the sole most important items in the run. Without them the run is doomed.
My last tip is to have fun!

p.s.: i will post some niche-r tips i learned throughout the years in the replies to this comment
1) always fight flies in 1-wide corridors or in a doorway (with them being in the doorframe)
2) speaking of flies, they only ever drop one specific type of potion, never anything else
3) drops from the first boss can be sold for a pretty penny, but you should save them for alchemy once you find receipes that utilise them
4) utilize doorways to sneak-attack at every opportunity possible
5) thrown weapons can sneak-attack, while magic can not
6) don't use your waterskin as the first tool to heal yourself, a full waterskin has a very important use once you reach a merchant
7) everything you throw down a pit appears on the next floor
8) if you encounter a special room (one full of traps for example), or a wooden barricade you will always find the potion/scroll you need to traverse it on the floor the room is located at
9) you can completely fill up a waterskin by throwing it into a healing well
10) always test potions while standing in a puddle of water, and preferably near a door
11) the first scroll you find is typically one of Upgrade

@@unusedaccount2590 The point is you don't know if it is. So use it first and learn what it does. If you throw them you won't learn the type (strenght, healing, experience, haste, invisibility), but drinking in a safe spot (dry land near water and a door) lets you get the most of it with minimal risk.

It's a matter of learning from your mistakes and understanding how things work together. As long as you play with a growth mindset and a willingness to improvise and experiment you should be able to win eventually, though it may take 50-200 (or more) games for the first win. Successive wins come significantly faster.

Protip: find a tier 3 or higher weapon and sink as most of your scrolls of upgrade into it. Also: use the stones of augmentation at every shop.
Note: the Spear can also be a good end-game weapon, despite being tier 2.
