The premiership window is literally just a visual representation of percentage on an X (points for) and Y (points against) axis. Dunno why they try and present it as some mystical predictive chart which shows a teams form. Teams who are good at dominating low teams e.g. Bulldogs, Brisbane with 60-100 point blowouts over teams like North and Eagles will of course have a somewhat inflated percentage and therefore be 'in the premiership window', even if in reality they're outside the top 4. But without both a high percentage and a high ladder position, which requires not just beating up on low teams but also consistently winning against top 8 teams, it's meaningless. By the by, i'm not ruling out the Dogs and Lions who are obviously in ripping form after a slow start to the year. But you do probably want to look at ladder position just as much as their so called 'premiership window', i.e percentage.
It's a little different to percentage though. Because for example a team who's always involved in low scoring games (e.g final scoreline of 60-30 points), yet keeps winning, would have the best percentage in the comp, but they won't be in the 'premiership window' here since they won't be top 6 for offence. I agree they've tried to add more mystique (which is silly) and it's 100% not the best way of measuring teams, but calling it equal to percentage is incorrect.
While technically true, I do think the graphic tells the story of team strengths. Agree it shouldn’t be heralded as the ‘holy grail’ of metrics but I do think it’s more visually robust for analysis than %
I think Freo are going to be around the pointy end of the ladder for awhile. Super young and talented. Their game plan is finally clicking and like Jordan said, players are now buying in and understand what to do. Disregard Freo at your peril! 😊
Hawthorns Percentage after round 7 was in the 60s. We have picked up 30 percent in 9 weeks. We have won 8 out of 10 which is only behind Sydney. That's why we look a long way behind because we are coming from a long way back. My guess is this graph will look very different if we keep winning in 4 weeks time. Haven't conceded more than 80 points since the Bulldogs match which says our defence is rock solid ATM.
Doesn't take into account recent form and the fact that finals are a completely different kettle of fish. And, even then, the top 8 changes over time. What one would've put a win over Melbourne as "beating a top 8 team" would now see it as a win over a bottom 10 team. To use any temporary stat as a sign for the future is a fool's way of looking at footy.
The premiership window is looking good and interesting so as surprising I am happy that Lions and Swans in the green defence and offence window as well as Doggies come in the premiership window they have been in it for R12- R16 it is amazing and surprising for me not sure for anyone else but I think the Bombers would come near the window and so as the Blues are on a roll and the Blues are outside the window but they should come in because there are just amazing and outstanding of using the footy and their players I say Good luck to the Blues, Lions, Doggies and Swans to make the windows more better for them just have to wait and see if Carlton or Sydney is better to make a grand final.
The Bulldogs and Lions are up there ATM because they have absolutely belted some teams this year and in those beltings they restricted the opposition to a low score. Bit misleading. Would need to produce it consistently over the next few rounds for this metric to make sense.
Even the coaches are ignoring CD stats more and more as they realise how subjective and pointless they are. I wish a large player from a major continent would come and shut down CD and do metrics properly.
Sydney have been on a roll for while Geelong had them for almost 3/4 but couldn't continueSo, Freo beat them by 2 points, and you would think by the gushing that they have changed the course of the season. It's 1 game..long way to go.
love blacres but gary seems to be forgetting our true third ball winning midfielder cerra. give him a couple weeks to gain form and our midfield will look unstoppable
The premiership window makes no sense. Dogs outside the 8 and in the window. The system is too dependent on specific results (Carlton have the second best defense over the last 5 weeks). Swans are top, blues are second. That's the window.
Ladder positions aren’t everything anyone with a brain knows that, the bulldogs are 9th but only 1 win separates them from 5th place infact if they were awarded a win they would jump up to 5th because of their percentage, hawthorn are also 1 win away from 5th when they are only 13th and have won 8 of the last 10 games. Your ladder position does not always define how good you are. Also the premiership window is based on stats specifically points brisbane and the bulldogs have the 2nd and 3rd best percentage in the league which is why they are so high in the window.
@@russelldavies1423 just remember the advantage VIC clubs get playing at the MCG weekly on average. The last time swans played at the MCG was in April, fairly early into the season. Do you think that is fair? Personally the MCG & Marvel ground for outside VIC clubs should be done fairly throughout the year. Not to have all 3 Melbourne-based games be at the MCG all at the start of the year. Anyways Swans won 2 out of those 3 games. But I feel you VIC fans need to remember how much of an advantage your clubs have, having to travel less and play at the MCG more. Also, the ground of the SCG is not that small, just a different shape and can't be made larger because of the heritage stands that are protected.
Jordan Lewis talked about "role players" and their importance to the positivity of a club and cited Freemantle, specifically Nat Fyfe as a great example. Similarly, Carlton now have those same unsung heroes in their team on every line. Boyd and Newman, Acres and Cincotta, Fogerty, Fantasia and Williams,...there are so many Blue's happy to play their role for the greater team success. Irrespective of ultimate success, to see any team play selfless, joyous footy makes for great watching. 💙Go Blue's.

The premiership window is a load of rubbish. It’s basically just percentage if we want to know a teams percentage we’d just look at the ladder
While technically true, I do think the graphic tells the story of team strengths. Agree it shouldn’t be heralded as the ‘holy grail’ of metrics but I do think it’s more visually robust for analysis than %
Hang on, we’ve gone and sorted the ladder by percentage, put it on a different graph, and called it a window 😂 doesn’t change that you’re 9th.

This doesn’t take into account recent form. Do the full 16 rounds, but then do a comparison against the last 5 rounds.
Or against teams who were top 8 at the time of. The games perhaps

Blues rated number defence after this weekend so how does this even work ?

Carlton very easy run last 5 weeks
Better to base the stat over the whole season to get the average not just the last 5 weeks..
You are obviously a blues fan
Why don't they just give them the premiership now hey?
They've had a fairly good June..what else matters
@croftyisthebest lol up untill richmond we played 10 finals contenders in a row

Carlton are a real chance for the premiership we finish top two we don’t leave Melbourne for the final series 😊
Depends on who finishes 3rd tbh
I mean if Carlton lost first week than played an interstate team in the prelim then they would leave Melbourne
If carlton play Collingwood in the first final and lose, we will play Sydney in the prelim at the scg. Not ideal
@@billycooper4690 If Freo play Carlton and lose the first final, they’ll play Sydney at the SCG, either way, Freo grand finalists 🥳

Take Carlton and Sydney out of the top 8 and who knows you who could win the flag
🎉🎉🎉🎉😂 Brisbane lions 🔥❤️
When do Freo play Calton next ? . I am saying the fellows can Take this group , anywhere and anytime . By the way your graph is about six months old !
Carlton have the wood over freo, you cant even beat them on your home deck! Carlton is just about the last team freo want to face.
gazzas right, sydney defence do play up. they choked carlton in sydney. but on a bigger mcg ???
Play well at that pea sized ground. Not so sure on a bigger MCG...we know what happened 2 years ago

Swans
Blues

Brissy/freo
Only teams that can win it tbh
Let's just wait and see what happens tbh
2016 there was 8 points between 7th and 1st. dogs in 7th won
Beware the swans. May of lost by point but will clean up the comp.
Given the Swans' performance against the Cats in the GF, I'm sure most teams would rather face them in a GF
