Wanted one since they first came out. Have 2 now. The daily driver that I mentioned at beginning of vid that needed to be worked on and caused me to start driving this one again is also a Sport Trac. Got it cheap with a bad timing chain issue as well
@@misfittoys8883 timing chain must be a common problem with these. My dad got me one back in highschool and that's what happened to mine. Mine was bone stock but I drove it like it was built like yours. It handled the snow pretty well for what it was. Pulled so many people out of the snow with it.
On the next episode of (if I were a jeep) 😎 Nah, I'm looking at buying a solid axle swapped sport trak now. Currently use a 03 explorer 4x4 daily. Great vehicle's
That thing is SUPER SWEET... a great looking Explorer body style (better then most/granted hybrid body) with one of Ford's best engines...the bulletproof good powered 5.0 with SAS to boot! I want it!
G'afternoon ☕☕ 😀 . I'm a Buick guy that likes the oddball, quirky & kool stuff & I think you did a great job on that rig 😀 . I'm workin' on a 98' S10 Blazer 4door 4wd w/ the 4.3 V6 & 4 spd auto trans. Decent bones to start with and pretty good off road too 😀 ..
I know a couple of guys that used to wheel the piss out of stock beat up S10 blazers. They were not great wheelers due to very little ground clearance, but they didnt care. They had a blast in them because they just didnt care about damage. Plentiful and cheap parts for them
@@misfittoys8883 way kool 🙃 . I'd much rather had a K5 Blazer but then again my 07' Hyundai Tucson GLS was surprisingly capable for what it was. Unfortunately I just lost an 01' Suburban xlt Tahoe & the S10 blazer popped up for $700. For now I figured why not because I have a 94 Suburban 4wd a brother gave to me sitting over in Idaho City, I just need to go and get it 😀
great use of putting together 2 vehicles that probably would of been scrapped. I like how you use more used parts than new, thats what the car crafting, hot rodding thing used to be, home built stuff with what you could find or use what you had. That is what got me watching your channel to begin with, keep up the great work! I heard you mention a 56 truck...can not wait to see work begin on that!
Always wanted a sport trac when they first came out. Found an ‘01 in my favorite color, island blue metallic in ‘06 with only 43k miles on it, pristine condition at a local Ford dealership. Had the deal all worked out, financing, payment, approval etc. The shop cleaning guy took it around back to detail while I did the paperwork. About 5 mins later the shop manager comes into the office with a worried look on his face and grabs my sales guy. They come back with some bad news. One of the timing chains failed catastrophically, no inkling, no warning whatsoever as he pulled it into the wash bay. Pistons hit valves, major carnage, engine is toast. Fortunately, for me, I hadn’t finished signing paperwork. As soon as the shop manager popped in I set the pen down and refused to sign anymore until I knew what was going on. The finance manager kept trying to get me to keep signing but I wasn’t having it. They came back and tried to “sell” me a new engine as the truck was out of warranty for a “discounted” price and they would just add it to my financing, you know, no big deal. I told them bullshit, new engine, you pay for it and install and keep the deal as originally agreed upon. They wouldn’t do it so I grabbed all the documents off the desk and ripped them to shreds. Walked out of the dealership and never looked back. They were out of business not even a year later. Bunch of pricks. Anyway, awesome job on the sport trac upgrades! Ford needed to offer a V8 in the first gen sport trac. They did in the second gen but by then the explorer in general had morphed into a giant pile of poo and it was gone by 2010.
Before I got this one, we had been shopping for one. Found one at a large dealership about an hour away. Wentvto test drive it and really liked it. Agreed to buy it but there was not enough time to finish all the paperwork and whatnot before they closed for the day so we were supposed to go back the next day to finish it. They ended up selling it out from underneath us then tried to push us into a Dodge Durango. Didnt happen
WOW very nice retro mode supreme nicely done, now to design a wide body kit for the extended tires. Great job and content on debriefing the build. (I am a Ford Guy and think is an awesome tuck) LOL too old for such a wild build.
@@misfittoys8883 check out b for build mustang he built for SEMA this past fall it's wild, I think it maybe possible. But you are in front of it and video may distort the possibilities.
What if you put a smaller pully on the power stearing pump it might need a bit extra revelations ? but it looks good, maybe mud flaps might save mud flying around, all the best to you and your loved ones
Its something I can live with. Seems like I have heard or read somewhere that Chrysler uses a pump on jeeps that fits in place of what I have and is capable of flowing a lot more.
They use the same power steering pump as a 6.0 powestroke. They mount differently, though. So just swap the insides of the pumps, and you have a high flow pump. Works great on my 98 explorer with a f150 steering box and psc assist ram.
I also have a 2001 sport trac. Mine is all stock with 129,000 miles on it. I'm the third owner, and I've had it 5 years. I love mine, but I really like the work that you did to yours.
I have a good question for ya, I have a 1979 Ford truck and it's got a 300 i6 3 speed what would be a good way for making it 4x4 and a bigger trans such as a 4 speed or something
Would not be an easy swap. Basically would be like what I did with this Sport Trac- remove everything to do with the front suspension, incuding the BIG crossmember, and fabricate the 4x4 components onto your existing frame. Would be much easier to aquire the proper 4x4 chassis and swap your body to it.(assuming your body is worth it anyway) swapping to a 4 speed would be a pretty much bolt on affair if you found a parts truck source with the same wheelbase.

I never even looked at a sport trac until yours. Badass machine there.

Pretty cool man 😎 I got a 93 explorer currently regearing considered Axle swapping.

The 4.0 SOHC has THREE timing chains in it! They have a terrible history of chains/tensioners/guides going bad

Would have required very little extra engineering on Fords part to make it happen

Dont know when I will get back to the 56. I rescued it from the crusher but maybe I shouldn't have because it was pretty rough.
I never thought a sport trac could be cool. I stand corrected. That thing looks sick. You got me wantin one.
Thought goes through my head occasionally to lift it and put bigger tires on it.

Just crawls right along with very little throttle. Nice unit dude!
All that was done in 4hi even

Looks like I gotta build one something like that.
Welcome to the party
Oh this is going to be a great episode. It shall look forward to your videos by far you are one of my favorite TH-camrs
Thanks for watching
Keep up the great content. Love the mad max style of fabrication.
Mad Max fab is right up my alley, because it is cheaper than building show cars
You should put the ZF5 out of the purple truck in it lol. That thing is pretty cool, and you did an excellent job.
Purple truck actually has the lighter duty M5OD in it. And it is 2wd
I always learn something from you. I didn’t even know that Ford had different manuals in the full size.
Would a NV4500 fit behind a Ford?
Not 100% shure, but I believe they can with pricey adapters/ bellhousing
Awesome build buddy!!! I’m definitely digging it!!! Definitely a nice build for the price I’m guessing also!!!!
True. Not a huge amount invested in money. Mostly time
That is sweet as hell love it. When u get some lockers in it will,go,right tho it
Definitely. If I ever get to the point of trying to seriously wheel it, I will put lockers in it

I suppose I could try to put some kind of fender flares on it but I think that would ruin the lines of the rig

It's a shame these were never factory v8 until the next generation.
Agreed. Ford had all the pieces to do it being used in the 5.0 Explorer
Let me know when you decide to head over to the mudpit behind Fareway and I'll come check it out.
Shure looks like a mud pit to me. Always wondering how much trouble I would get in if I gave it a go
It would look way better with a bumper but it's a really cool build
Pre runner type tube bumper with a skidplate to protect radiator. Just never got around to doing it
Iowa, cool!
I think you should just do a front skid plate instead of a bumper
Cant argue that. Body lines kind of support that idea
