"New" Ford Ranger? This truck has been made since 2011 in other places (just released in 2019 in USA and Canada as an "all-new Ranger"), while at the time Ford wanted the 2004-era body F150 to take on two roles, to become a midsize truck, and compete in the full-size class. The base 3.7 V6 was a competitor to the midsize class, while both the 5.0 V8 and 3.5 EcoBoost competed in the full-size market. It was also at this time the execs at Ford thought the T6 Ranger would cannibalize the F150's sales, and decided to wait to see what is left of the midsize truck of the period would perform (those days had the last of the Dodge Dakota and Chevy Colorado, while the Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma battled it out until 2014).

I only noticed a few Sport Trac, even though I was and still am a fan for the Explorer. It should also be noted, that the reason for the drop in sales in mid 2000, was due too Hurricane Katrinia and the average price of gas rising over $3.00 a gallon for the first time and lasting until the stock market crash of 2008. A lot of drivers were beginning to go back to cars because they were cheaper in price and have better mileage.

As for the exploder roll over incident it was a factor of several things wide enough then they gave it a soft suspension trying to make a truck into a car . And then the tires didn't help thing with belts separating from the tread. With the added High center of gravity it just added to the rollover . The things Ford found to help the explorer is to add stiffer shocks that were meant for the Australian market. And then yes replace the tires.

just a correction at 6:45 . The 2nd gen Explorer Sport Trac always used the 5 spd when paired with V6; it didn't upgrade to a 6 spd by 2009.
The V8 always used the 6R transmission, regardless of MY (2007-2010) and it's the preferred choice, not only because it got way more power and torque, but also because it was the more reliable combo without giving up MPGs.

There was kind of like a "generation 2.5" Explorer in the early 2000s that was comprised of just the 3-door Sport and the Sport Trac.
I commented on another video about how I had at least 4 diecast Sport Tracs growing up, and most of the games in the Ford Racing series featured one of them. Need for Speed: Nitro, too, if you remember that one. Plenty of nostalgic value to make this a vehicle worth talking about.

I got my grandpa 2002 ford explorer sport trac when I turn 17 , the irony was i was born in 2005 and that the same year my grandpa got he tried a 19 ft rv and a couple grand for it and I have had a couple of small accidents with it , one bent the frame extension for the driver side tow hook and that was that and the other one is basically a crease on the side of the driver side rear cab corner and it got some scratches and paint chips on the very front from the highway i have to drive when going to school and the top composes / out temperature stopped working and it been amazing little truck especially considering how much my grandpa used and abused the thing, carrying one ton of rocks in the back of it and one big plus i have for the sport trac is the size of the power sliding rear window when you need full boards of lumber its perfect, but the truck had every factory option lol , leather seats , pioneer 6 cd radio and non crazy pioneer subwoofer and currently has 208,000 ish miles on it

The new Ranger has always had a Crew Cab, but it Only has a 5’ bed.
In order to get a 6’ bed Ranger you’ll have to buy the Super Cab.
I had a 11 Ranger XLT super cab 4WD and loved my little Ranger.
I was going to buy a new Ranger Lariat Crew cab, but I couldn’t get a 6’ bed, so I bought a new 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road, double cab with the 6’ bed and the Premium and Technology pkgs.
My TRD Is basically a Limited with the TRD Off Road pkg.
Ford missed it on this one.
I know a lot of people want the WORTHLESS 5’ bed but we use our old Ranger and our current Tacoma for light duty work around our property.

Between the sport track and Nissan exterrayou could always tell how much fun the owners had by how filthy they were come Monday morning. I'm not a fan of trucky SUV offerings But I do think that it was a cool and pretty practical design that was perhaps just ahead of its time. I do remember thoughthat although the regular Ford Explorer was known for having gremlins in the transmission as with almost every other Ford equipped with an automatic transmission the manual versions seem to be the big survivors today. The sport track head engine issues along with other electronic chronic problems I would suspect Probably just as many as you'd find in the upper trim Levels of the explorer and mountainear models. As with most American cars the more basic tended to be the more reliable.

I got a free set of tires for my 96 Mazda B4000 truck out of that recall deal in 2001. The tires on my truck had 55k miles at the time so I was ready for a set of tires anyway and I got them free.

Do the ford freestyle next. My old man had 2. One of which he gave me. My friend’s grandpops had the Taurus X which is what it later became before it met its demise.

I worked for a Ford dealership while the Adrenaline was being sold. I hadn’t confirmed it, but was told there was a Roush kit available for the V8 model

That would be a great idea but ford is already good with the iconic Ford Ranger which hooked with the mid sized crew cab configuration as standard.

Still think you should do a video on the 1993 dodge colt. My mom had one in bright blue and in a standard option.

I think Jeep should bring back the Commanche, in the style of the 1997-2001 (no front vent windows and significantly stiffer chassis), single cab, with the Pentastar V6 and independent front suspension (to avoid the cannibalization of sales from the Gladiator). It was the only unibody truck of the time with a removable bed, a unique feat no one can recreate today. Not even the Ridgeline can recreate the Jeep's bed, as it's still attached to the cab.

Some of them were rated for 2200 lb payload. That was more than some fullsize trucks back in the day.

Had no idea these existed. A ford explorer ute. The pk onwards ranger existing sealed it's fate. But I'd bet the explorer sport trac is over 5m long.
Unibody utes aren't unique in Australia, holden and ford with the commodore and Falcon were exactly that and had been since the 60s. Holden did a twin cab in the 00s based on the wagon which made the rear half a removable tub too.

It's an awesome truck! That generation is very reliable & durable. I'm not so sure the current iteration of the explorer is as much. The ecoboost is junk and the 10 speed transmission is not great either. As a Ford fan, I'm very disappointed the direction the company has gone.

I forgot about this thing. It was basically the predecessor to all modern mid-size trucks, which is sad.

Answers to Questions along with an EXPLANATION to other Comparisons presented.
While looking at full size Pick-ups / SUV offerings Kept Reverting back to the RANGER as MORE a GOOD Compromise for my OWN Personal needs. Sport trac was still a QUESTION with Few answers for (US) totally. As LUCK would have it. A Saturday Afternoon Drive about an hour or so before this particular dealer was set to close. (I) Spotted something that had to be looked at further. Right outside the Showroom doors. It had a few colored Banners with Numbers that varied ALOT when NOT explained how they came to be. OFF-Lease ( Executive Driven ) Trade-Ins and Ups ( ALL ) came to be options in this equation that day. The Dark Blue Ford Ranger with the 4.0 liter, Suicide rear doors with Jump Seats and Sliding rear window as well. Topped off with a Matching Fiberglass cap and dual locking rear lift up window with sliders on the sides. It was a Vision to behold NO MATTER if one was in the market or just admiring the object itself. A Cloudy Day with tamps cooler then normal for that time of year indeed. The sales guy in a three piece suit appeared out of no where. When I inquired about the Numbers being off in many areas. HE Stated(ITS) All based on the version of Purchase each MIGHT qualify for these days. A Tactic in my eyes to get attention when others would otherwise ( POSSIBLY ) walk on by seeing MSRP and nothing else to be Subtracted in the beginning. GOOD YEAR tires with a really nice interior rounded out the package here. At first (I) was looking and nothing more. YET, in the back of my mind wanted to see ( HIS ) version of what could be in total. Had been driving a Jeep Cherokee Laredo with the BULLT Proof Straight six 4x4 with Shift on the Fly with only minor issues in those years by now. (I) got it OFF lease from a doctor in Illionois who did a lot of Kool stuff to it. RUSTY JONES Body Insulation, Rust Proofing, Fabric Protection and the Michelin Tires for a Really good grip in all types of weather as well. The trade value on a 15 year vehicle was minimal BUTT better then any Scrap place would be offering for sure those days. My Down payment was just sitting in the bank waiting for a *SOME DAY * down the line with Excellent credit I was very proud of to this very day. The DEAL (IF) I chose to take it ?? Drive it home on Saturday and see if the weekend would either SWAY or say *NAY* come Monday at five pm for the Extended TEST Drive as they were calling it back then. By Mid-day Sunday the only question that would be a YAY or a NAY would be the POSSIBLY FINANCING Declarations. I called them up midday on Monday to have them RUN the NUMBERS with Specific Details of Banks Competing for BEST offers allowed. Here is the kicker. On a 15 month old Vehicle it still had about HALF of the FACTORY Warranty (INCLUDED ).
By 5 in the pm My Answer was YES ( LETS Do this thing ) or I will for ever regret it. NOT saying that to them. Always playing COY as to hold the cards close to my chest as (IF) any wrong moves will cause a Walk in the other direction. A Used Car manager and the new car manager were a GRAND off in both Ranger Price and Used car value as well. Told them They either Make it right or there would be NO Reason for me to come in to the showroom / office that day or any other going forward. About 15 minutes they hemmed and hawed. I was about to just leave when the sales guy came back wondering what was the delay ??? Told him it was up to the two mangers (NOT) me at that point. About another 10 minutes went by and again ( I ) was literally starting to drive away as the sales guy kept yelling ( THEY ) did it ( YOU ) can come on in now. My ONLY TRUE FAILURE with this story. SHOUD have HELD onto that ranger until it NO LONGER could be driven or fixed to be quite honest. The Story that would be a follow up was anything butt SAD in All Directions for My heart was indeed broken later on. For the record. Those GOOD YEAR tires Also had a Major recall on them. After over a year on the waiting list. GOT (4) Brand New ones Mounted, Balanced, Installed at NO cost to me - overall. It did it all for me. Checked the boxes and gave great joys in what ever it was that we needed. The NERF Bars if came with were showing signs of rust and was going to sand, grind, repaint them. The couple of bolts holding them on made we realize (IT) they were not needed for me and it looked better without them anyway so NEVER actually fixed or put them back on again. FORD RANGER 4.0 liter, Suicide doors with Jump seats Fully loaded with Everything (I) would have ordered it with ( 4x4 ) Matching Fiberglass cap ( Lakeland ) a really good brand, Sliding cab rear window. Power locks, Windows, Drivers seat, CD / Cassette / Am- Fm Stereo with extra speakers JUMP Seats all with a Partial Factory Warranty as well. The SPORT Tracs we looked at ? Way more money and not as much Bang for the buck, NEW, USED, Off Lease , or executive driven for what (I) felt was a Bargen - STEAL - worth a few years of Payments still going forward. By the Way ( FORD CREDIT ) did me a Solid. used them a few times over the years. Next to no interest was a DEAL That most could only dream as being possible still. Icing on the cake in My Book for sure. It was NOT as good on gas as the Stright 6 Jeep butt had Way More power and it came in plenty handy when we loaded it up for our trips and stuff on a regular basis... By the time I got a Full sized F-150 the gas prices had climbed to near 5 bucks a gallon and it was not long for my own ownership. Down graded to a FORD FOCUS ZXH Wagon. LOADED in the color Silver. Cut through the wind and sipped on gas even better then JEEP was doing all those years before. Drove it to the east coast not long after. The ONLY Gripe was the SEATS needed more total padding and the Interior noise was a bit more then other vehicles I owned at that point. Out there SUBARU'S were about every 2nd or 3rd car / vehicle we saw mostly.. The SILVER BULLET. Other then Changing over the Stock tires to some AQUA TREADS to get better overall Winter traction. It was a Nice car for the year (I) had here. A Small Wagon with plenty of room for sure. The FUSION (I) got to replace it with. MIGHT as well of been a Lincoln for how quiet and comfortable it was... NOT big on Cargo room. It Totally made up for in COMFORT and STYLE. That NEVER gets old when the miles just fly on by - for sure...
