    Hey there folks, here is a Norwegian Arctic Field Ration - and this one was one of the most enjoyable and high quality Military Rations I've ever had. This was a breakfast meal, and it certainly would be a nice Ration for a soldier in arctic conditions.
    Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

    I'm from Norway. Fun fact. The kid on the liver pate is changed every year. As a parent you can send in a picture of your kid, and they choose a new kid for the liver pate every year :) That liver pate is one of the most normal things for a young kid in Norway to put on bread, everybody knows about it. It's very rich in iron.
    I was in the army for one year of conscription in 2009. I remember those REAL dried meals, the Gimsøy energy drink and the chocolate. I remember I really liked the chocolate. I also remember that the REAL dried dinner rations made me go full really quickly. Couldn't ever finish them properly. And I'm a big guy at 187 cm.

      These aren't really ''Combat Rations'' these are outdoor foods, like rations for civilian use, but the military has a contract with DryTech to purchase rations.

    • @gunnar6674
      @gunnar6674 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Each individual component is available in the civilian market as well, but these packages are definitely combat rations. They can come attached to a lunch and dinner package - the good thing about keeping them separate is that you can mix and match and trade with your squadmates. Even as fantastic as these rations are, people eventually tire of them.
      The freeze dried component is quite expensive. I remember being very happy about getting them on maneuvers. I liked pretty much all the variants.
      Freeze dried was a nice variation from the canned food, bread and refrigerated spreads we were usually given. (The latter doesn't really fit into the A/B/C/D/K ration groups, since it was a combination of canned and refrigerated food issued to the squad and prepared by the individual.)

    • @Kraakesolv

    This is such a mellow thing to watch, it goes amazing with studying, reading, or just a little vacation for the mind, you have a very pleasant voice. The norwegian episodes are especially fun for me (as I am norwegian) Props! The brand of "REAL" is sold at most outdoor/sporting goods shops here and is wildy popular, we use them when hiking,camping etc, (and the stereotypical crosscountry skiing trips) The liver patee is a staple on every norwegian breakfast table, and the most famous/popular can has had some kid on it since the 50's, there is a contest every year or so. It is probably a nice reminder of home for our troops abroad.

      @RiotDemon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      skrivbok there are websites that import Scandinavian foods. They're usually pretty expensive, and then the shipping is not cheap either. If you live in northern states, like Minnesota, that have a large Scandinavian population, then they have stores that you can go to where it's slightly more reasonable.

    I'm loving your videos and your channel. It's great to see it gaining a lot of steam in a short amount of time. You might want to stagger your video releases some though. It's better to launch one every two days than three in a single day.

      +Steve1989 MREinfo I see what you mean. I used to work a job that was all about youtube marketing, so I'm just thinking in those terms. Dropping lots of videos at once means some might get lost in the shuffle., and it could hurt their view count. Keep an eye on the analytics and decide what you think would be best.
      If you want to start learning the basics on channel marketing, you can check out reelseo on youtube to get general tips and there's all sorts of other guides online that talk about channel growth, keywords, intros, outros that point to your past videos... I mean it really goes on and on. Keep up the good work.

      +Joe Diamond I was in the army in 1992 ... then we had pretty standard food with us when we went out on manouvers, like Canned food, but it was hard hauling it with us tough... with the fuel to heat it and us and so on :-)
      But I do remember one armyfood they served us.... RSP or as we called it "Rester etter sprengt personell" wich basically means "bits of blown up persons", they where similar to what now is sold as "Turproviant" in the civilian market, high protein and calories to give you strenght as you spend alot of calories when you are out skiing all day long. The thing with the RSP, they came as canned food and you sometimes or often found food that was packed before you where borned !!! haha ... dit taste quite okey tough ...
      Rest of the food we used to have with us on manouvers where like normal canned food like Fishballs (no they don't have BALLS!!!), Reindeer meatcakes, Spaghetti, and so on... stuff you could buy on the normal stores really.
      Instead of normal bread (Norwegians love their bread) you had Crisp bread .... and stuff like that liverpate and jelly that came in same type of containers.
      My older brother used to collect the ration they used to get... that one came in a box where you could use the box to cook with, that box came with chocolate bar, chocolate to mix with water, some bisquits, think it had RSP in it, and even a burner so you could cook the food :-) it had solid fuel in it ... like one-time use and so on.

      I served in 99/2000, and if I remember correctly the freezedried REAL had been just introduced. They all tasted great, except one labelled as "cod stew". That was an an acquired taste, but hey, when you're hungry enough everything goes down. The pack included the same energy drinks and cocoa as in Steve's other Norwegian videoes, but also differed in that they had small tubes of either bacon or ham flavoured cheese. Maybe also shrimp flavoured cheese (for some reason thats very popular in norway). They were great to add to the freeze dried meal for extra flavour and creamy texture. There were also packets of malt candy. They didnt taste great, but some liked them and I used to trade them for coffee. Those whole bartering sessions when we finally camped at night, were we traded meals, candy, coffee and everything, are great memories from that year of service.
      We also often had the previous generation so-called "reserve combat provisions" available. They were a canned mishmash of beef, pork, fat and peas and went under the named "Dead man on can". For some reason people didnt like them, but I thought they tasted great. I used to heat the whole can in the diesel heater on our Hägglunds Bv206 tracked vehicle when possible. Oh the memories!

    Two hints.
    On the side you will see a black or white line, fill water to that line.
    The brekfast can be cold or warm - I find them best served cold - but takes way longer to rehydrate.
    AND split the bottom of the container..

    @Steve1989 MREinfo I just ate the Menu 14 chicken tikka masala. (other items: bread, energy drink raspberry, proteinbar raspberry, cocoa, chocolate 25 grams, nut crème/peanut butter, coffee and gum) because you made me hungry with these MRE videos. I even tried the coffee, didn't hate it, when i usually can't stand the taste. We used these a lot in the army, and did you know that you are supposed to eat three of those per day during winter?The summer ration is just the Drytech bag per meal.
