They do tend to eschew a lot of the traditional K-Pop sounds for a more blend of western sounds with their own style. I always go with how they define themselves as X-Pop. No matter what it's just excellent music.

This is like a anime story line made into a live action 3 minute movie and what a masterpiece! Every single frame is art. Jaw dropping CGI married to a sonic blend of Jazz, hip hop, garage, drill, rap, and vocal harmony soundtrack that is jarring and overwhelming and emotional and mind blowing. This what GRL GVNG could have aspired to if it had been made into a full length production with a storyline instead of the shortened and confusing music video that was released. Most people noticed Princess Mononoke in the MV, but I would say some themes of this MV are very similar to Wolf's Rain (literally wolves and flowers...) and Origin:Spirits of the Past (that dragon, and sentient flowers?) An honorable mention would be Jin Roh (with the red goggly eyes in the dark, and I mean the name of the movie literally translates to Wolf brigade). Love the references and the deep dive into anime details.

I am 100% sure that XG decided to pay homage to Miyazaki Hayao San, and Studio Ghibli in this video, I bet they had a meeting and talked about where they have seen wolves in their lives, and Mononoke hime (Princess Mononoke) is full of white female wolves. Mononoke Princess is about a young woman of the forest that fights to protect the balance of nature from the destruction of mankind. Throughout the video Jurin represents Mononoke hime. The QR code (invented in japan) is dissolved and Mononoke Princess (nature princess) is revealed underneath. The brown monsters with red eyes are also represented in the anime. The dragon in front of the full moon might be from Spirited Away, dragons in japan are believed to be the benefactors and protectors of mankind. In old Japan there was a belief that the souls of people alive or dead could take the form of a butterfly. Therefore any butterfly that entered a house was treated respectfully. Mermaids are actually also a japanese thing within shinto folklore a creature called Ningyo is a person with half human half fish. They represent harmony. The mermaid idea in Japan might stem from early books imported from Holland, about european sailors seeing mermaids at sea. In the end, the nature princess touches the ground and everything turns green and full of flours, In the anime Mononoke hime the huge deer spirit of the forest does the exact same thing, everything it touched blooms.

First thing loved your reaction. Second if you started with XG then you may have already spoiled yourself in terms of other K-pop style groups. There are definitely other talented groups out there but XG is beyond them on almost every level in my opinion. Whether it’s the compositions, vocal performance, rap performance, the skill at dancing, visuals and their entire theme and concept I believe they dominate utterly. And they can pull all of this off live. Howling, Is this love and In the Rain are all superb in my opinion.

well their producer is Korean that is already well versed in kpop producing system. The benefit of not really coming from kpop industry is that they can freely explore creativity, thus resulting in this kind of masterpiece.

XG is one of those groups that have spoiled other groups for me. lol their B-Sides/ prereleases are on the same level of other group's title tracks! I'm trying so hard to be really objective about it, coz even some of my favorite groups in KPop aint releasing anything CLOSE to what XG is putting out. They're really different. wtf.

I am 100% sure that XG decided to pay homage to Miyazaki Hayao San, and Studio Ghibli in this video, I bet they had a meeting and talked about where they have seen wolves in their lives, and Mononoke hime (Princess Mononoke) is full of white female wolves. Mononoke Princess is about a young woman of the forest that fights to protect the balance of nature from the destruction of mankind. Throughout the video Jurin represents Mononoke hime. The QR code (invented in japan) is dissolved and Mononoke Princess (nature princess) is revealed underneath. The brown monsters with red eyes are also represented in the anime. The dragon in front of the full moon might be from Spirited Away, dragons in japan are believed to be the benefactors and protectors of mankind. In old Japan there was a belief that the souls of people alive or dead could take the form of a butterfly. Therefore any butterfly that entered a house was treated respectfully. Mermaids are actually also a japanese thing within shinto folklore a creature called Ningyo is a person with half human half fish. They represent harmony. The mermaid idea in Japan might stem from early books imported from Holland, about european sailors seeing mermaids at sea. In the end, the nature princess touches the ground and everything turns green and full of flours, In the anime Mononoke hime the huge deer spirit of the forest does the exact same thing, everything it touched blooms.

Second if you started with XG then you may have already spoiled yourself in terms of other K-pop style groups. There are definitely other talented groups out there but XG is beyond them on almost every level in my opinion. Whether it’s the compositions, vocal performance, rap performance, the skill at dancing, visuals and their entire theme and concept I believe they dominate utterly. And they can pull all of this off live. Howling, Is this love and In the Rain are all superb in my opinion.

Yeah I think so too.. I often find myself from what I already listen to, comparing them and it is night and day. I agree with everything that they bring to the table no one comes close. XG is one of those groups that have spoiled other groups for me. lol their B-Sides/ prereleases are on the same level of other group's title tracks! I'm trying so hard to be really objective about it, coz even some of my favorite groups in KPop aint releasing anything CLOSE to what XG is putting out. They're really different. wtf.
THIS IS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL! And this is no disrespect to any other groups because they put out amazing stuff. XG is always putting quality and different ways and that is what really makes them special.
