It's better than getting hurt trying to hold on for dear life. Sometimes you're better off letting go as some riders have been dragged by the reins or stepped on by the horse due to hanging on. Not to mention it can hurt the horse, too. A little "emergency dismount" is fine.

It happened to me as well! I was trotting and my horses bitless bridle came undone, luckily he's really good and just stopped. I didn't even notice what happened until I looked cause I was confused as to why he wouldn't go forward.
on the jump at 00:16 - 00:20 if you look closely at the last leg coming down it bends into a break and the horse hobbles up check if you don't believe me and look closely as its partly obscured by the jump in a frame or two.

And in some circumstances it’s better to hold onto the reins instead of letting the horse run though for example a field for cross country, there’s no way to know where the horse will go and if they will get injured in that time.
It’s not that big so it’s fine. Your horse has a scopey jump on it then you’ll be able to just do it in trot, I’ve done chunky xc fences in trot before when I was out eventing

Today in my lesson a girl got bucked off because the horse had enough of her riding (no hate to her but she was a sack of potatoes) and then the horse my sister was riding bolted and bucked her off into a jump standard and galloped around the arena for a solid 7 minutes😅😅

1:40 was 100% rider error, in my opinion they were going way too fast for the horse to get proper striding up to the jump, hence the refusal
