In this weeks upload I visit Burton power to buy some much needed parts for my 2.0L pinto. They were very helpful and luckily they had everything in stock!
The orange 205 block was stripped from its flakey paint and I applied some fresh gloss black engine enamel that I purchased from Lenard brooks in Harlow. Once the engine block was rocking it's new colour I timed the engine up then started to strip off the cam belt and crank oil seal cover. That whole end of the engine then got a thorough clean and then I went ahead and fitted the new oil seal front cover along with the new timing belt, tensioner, water pump & thermostat.
Big steps were made in the video and I hope this video helps other people who are attempting to do these jobs on a pinto.

The rubber should go in first before the thermostat so it seals and stops the flow in till it warms up and opens and it won’t rattle 👍
Thank you for the heads up pal! I removed the thermostat the other day and fitted as you've explained, clip was very tight but doesn't rattle now 😁

😂I’ve done a couple of them on different fords they are all like it it’s got to tight so the water don’t get past it 👍

Great video Mitch ! Loving the engine build videos and the mk2 is getting better and better every time you work on it , if you can get the flywheel lightened and balanced your engine will rev quicker it’s a really good modification that works

Love a pinto! Great simple old skool engine in an Escort and easy to build or tune. I had my cam cover powder coated a gunmetal grey and painted my block metallic blue. Wasn't expensive and won't scratch like spraypaint will. You can get some nice metallic finishes in powder coat that would look good with a black block. My 205 pinto is standard with a set of twin 45 webers and made 120bhp on the dyno, not too bad for a standard ish pinto

We have the same tensioner set up on ours, but I know some have a spring, not sure if we did the right thing or not, but we added a spring to get the tension 👍

If the seal has a slit on the inner side all the way round it goes over the thermostat ,basically the thermostat sits in the slit so it’s 50/50 either side then pushes in to housing as one unit and then your clip , every days a school day 😆

Have you thought about a zetec and 40s ? I have seen some with that in the engine bay and they are rapid it’s just personal preference for me bud
It was a trough toss up between zetec or pinto but as you've said it's personal preference and I like a retro engine in a retro car! Nothing against the modern engines and I probably will do a modern engine in a old car one day but not for this escort 👌🏻
Great video, the rubber goes in before the thermostat, your thermostat is rattling around, how about getting a alloy cover made up with mk2 Mitch engraved ? Or a burton power one or paint yours beige… any of those would look good
Thank you for the advice mate, I removed the thermostat and fitted the rubber seal first & flipped the thermostat round the right way 👍🏻 As for cam cover, I'd love Mk2 Mitch engraved but not sure where I'd get that done?? 🤔
Nice build, super clean and has the head been converted to a unleaded fuel. As these engines were build in the leaded patrol ere?
I'm not sure John, I will have to check as I believe there's a number stamped on the head which refers to it being leaded or unleaded!

Years ago my mate who is a mechanic bored one to 2.3 and gas flowed head and put a 3.0 capri carb on it
Mate it used to keep up and beat 2.8 capri of the lights

wasnt those tensioners sprung loaded to help with how tight the cam belt is ,could be wrong has been over 2- yrs lol
I think so, however the one in removed didn't have a spring either so I will continue to check and adjust if necessary! 👍🏻
The spring was a great idea and was only fitted to earlier engines.

Not too sure if I’m honest! One didn’t come in the kit and other builds I’ve seen online done have them, but could be wrong 👍🏻

hi cam cover has to be crome finish ,,as your fitting a new clutch you need need need to get the flywheel lightened in balenced, ye ye ye you said next time for the flywheel,,nono need to do it know listen to the boys who have done all before,,🤘✌🤞👋💥

Just saw your video your thermostat is fitted the wrong way round the part of the stat which is copper and spring must face cylinder head iv seen this mistake several times and you will have overheating problems

Your thermostat is the wrong way round.
The part with the bimetal and spring should be in the hot part of the system.

@@Mk2Mitch good job! I mostly know it was the wrong way round, because my pinto engine had the same when i bought it, and i had massif Cooling problems
would of a taken a die grinder and clean that cracked cover to safe capital that could be used for the dipstick ect
I've kept the old front cover as a spare, I can always neaten it up in the future 👍🏻
