Absolutely amazing work. As a side note, I like the way you positioned the pulley for low rows - I've seen more than a couple of DIY fabricators just attach them to the base beam, which positions them too low. Really impressive.

In case you are still grinding off the mill scale, a much easier way to remove the mill scale is to soak the pieces in vinegar. I use Allen's double strength cleaning vinegar. Soak overnight (or more), then rinse and clean them up with a fine 3M Scotchbrite pad on an angle grinder. The dissolved mill scale residue comes right off leaving a great finish.

Love this gives, I was looking at making mine similar to this just mine had a longer bench seat to do the rows on instead of the floor but I couldn't figure out a good weight stack until I seen this
Looks great. Like you said, plate stack would’ve been superior, but it’s cool you did plate loaded to challenge yourself/give an example for the community. My only suggestion would be to cut down in the price of the weight stack you could fish for an old universal gym machine off Craigslist or something

Great job, I like it. I like the Olympic plate style more than the weight stack , more versatile. What would be cool is you could make a leg extension , leg curl combo that you could attach to that bottom cable and attach to that part under the seat (removable not permanent). Plus with this pandemic it's perfect for home gyms. Saw your other video on the adjustable cable machine, that machine is nice also, perfect for single arm and single leg isolation exercises.
i have thought of that exact thing, and a slew of other machines that "attach" to my adjustable cable machine and use its stack as weight. Videos will be coming soon, since you guys like this stuff so much! thanks for your comment!

I made a much cruder lat pull down years ago using the seat rollers from a concept 2 rowing machine. Same 4 roller carriage system as you. Was super smooth.
Dude I spent days trying to find rollers that fit over a 3x3 online. Apparently they just don’t make anything like that for sale. I had to make my rollers. You’d think a 3 inch wide wheel would be something you’d be able to find on the Internet... absolutely not.
@@solomonmachine2137. Way back then I used the model B rollers which were 2” across, so I used 2” tubing. The newer models are wider but I don’t know if they are 3 or 4 inches across. Did you consider them originally?

Sports smith and gymPart.com have lots of equipment parts... you can also buy rollers from concept2 directly also but, like I said, I don’t know the width of the model C and newer machines only that model b machines use 2” rollers. The kits come with bushings and hardware too.

Not great as far as matching square tubing sizes but I guess you could always sandwich two 3.25” flat bars over a smaller diameter square tube.

This is the best video that I have seen on TH-cam regarding creating something. So many guys out there seem to have an opinion and review the equipments but unfortunately none of them seem to create something unique. I think like you and build things out of my bare hands with minimum equipments.
There are out there so many things that can be changed from existing equipments and make them better. May be a market for the adds on also. Great machine and great equipment. Outstanding presentation

You should definitely use Delrin for your rollers. Thats what rogue use in the trolley of the rhino.
Also, you could use UHMW on each side to keep it centered.

@@francisboutin2779 thats what people have been saying, that a belt squat would be easy to add using the low row pulleys. I might as well. Amazing work! This video makes me want to learn how to weld! I’m curious how that many pulleys affect the force needed to lift the weight.
It’s a 1:1 ratio. The weight you feel when you pull is the full weight on the trolley! Although adjustable machines are 2:1 mechanical advantage
Awesome work! Do you have a CAD file for the side plates for the trolley and would you be willing to share? I’ve been wanting to upgrade my Titan lever arms to work on a trolley system with a plunger. Just not confident in my CAD skills.
Nice builds as usual. Virtually from ground up, short of melting and forming your own steel. Lots of techniques I'm not aware of like the trolley wheel of polyurethane (?) and that a swage tool other than a hydraulic exists. Keep it up :D Also just to confirm it is 1:1 ratio? Are you keeping and using both builds?

It is 1:1 ratio, perfect for huge back gains. I’m keeping both for now but I’m open to selling to the right person. And this one was completely designed by me. I’d say I was inspired by the Sorinex lat pulldown though. Especially for the seat
Another stunning construction! Just as you addressed it I was thinking the trolley was quite wobbly but still working of course. I would be interested to know if you did make aluminum rollers more precise to improve on that part of it? Video update would be great. Also perhaps an integrated/welded on footplate for the low rows would complete the machine.

The cable machine one was better imo. It takes a while to load the plates and you can’t really do super-sets because you won’t be able to change the weight within a matter of seconds. Nonetheless, great job 👍
Agreed. This is undeniable. I wanted to try and make a trolley, for anybody that also wants to make one. But the stack system is far superior. However it’s also far more expensive. Thank you so much for watching :)

Excelente diseño, pero tienes un error, primero por que tan alta,segundo,le pusiste rodillos nada más en frente y atras,el error es que se tambalean al subir el peso,te recomiendo que le pongas rodillos a lados los lados para que baje el peso uniforme, Pero te doy un 8...👍

Ha it would probably be a lot. It’s $500 for the metal and shipping would probably be in the $200-300 range. So I would end up charging around 1,000+shipping

Nice work. However I don't think it is worth doing as diy project if you just want your own pull down machine.
This is not DIY lat pull down, it's a DIM as in Did It Myself

After that, some guy who works in a mine will tell him that it's not DIY unless you dig the iron ore out of the ground. :D
