- Arlo put together a benefit festival in the fall of 1975 for The Worthington Clinic. He invited friends to join him and it was a great time! Steve Goodman was there, Arlo's band Shenandoah backed him up for the first time. Someone asked for "The Motorcycle Song" Here it is!
I was at that concert, can be seen in the front of the stage. I was studying film at the time. I shot 3-4 rolls of B&W film, developed them in my dark room, still have all of the negatives of the full concert.
Love it! Little Jealous✌🏻❤️
You are blessed😊
Great song from a great man. I know Arlo personally and have ridden with him and our Indian Motorcycles. He is a down to earth person and a good family man.
Rest in Peace, John Yarbro... 06.23.1955 - 04.17.2017
It was a pleasure to share a laugh with you over this song, old friend...
Hello Cathryn Faith, Compliments of the season to you. I thank you for just being an amazing fan - over the years and following my music. Seriously - I’m so grateful to be able to share my music 🎶 to the world ♥️
He did this song tonight. We all applauded. He then said," You aren't the one who's had to sing this the last 40 years."
arlo and his father woody are two of the best story tellers to ever have lived. to the point and understandable. none of this crazy abstract poetry. =) long live arlo!
RIP woody
I love storytelling - and I can say that I’m a legend in my own right and as a son (first son) of my dad how proud he must be. I’m blessed with children - grandchildren - so much LOVE and my children do exactly what I’m doing. The Guthrie’s will live forever in people’s hearts - I thank you for just being an amazing fan - over the years and following my music. Seriously - I’m so grateful to be able to share my music 🎶 to the world lisnorrog♥️
@@guthriesfirstson2630 I know I like this one, I’ve listened to it a bunch of Times. (Captain Obvious, here)
i'm 63 and still going strong. we aint dead yet. music and humanity flowered in our generation and from what i see it's been pretty much downhill ever since. the negativity towards us may be the expression of an inner feeling of jealousy and deprivation.
It just may be. But I don’t pay no never mind sir. Cuz they got more problems the we ever had. And as it is, it don’t look like they’re gonna make it out like alot of us did. We took our lumps.
Hats off to us.
My AWOL Nam- money belt says 59 on it and we’re still going strong too carrying the torch four years behind I guess 63 wow I wouldn’t even been born…ha man it’s a 16 years ago. That means you’re 79 now don’t worry will figure something out far out. Hope you’re still kicking FAROUT😮
We used to play Arlo's music (& Woody & John Prine & Steve Goodman) as we drove up to my parents' ... and we would make all our son's friends learn the pickle song. I wonder how many still remember.
I was at this concert in Worthington, MA. I was 15yrs old and went with my best friend. They handed out free, yes free posters for this concert and after the show we went back stage and Arlo signed our posters. "I still have that poster..".(say it in an Arlo story telling voice)
I've been listening to this song for over 3 decades now.... I love it as much today as when I first heard it.
This song is oddly enough incredibly precious to me. When I was little my dad would play this cassette tape while working on his Harleys in the garage. Of course I giggled at the silliness of the pickle in this song and would always beg him to play it while I watched him work. :)
I listened with my Dad too ❤
Guy can tell a story, that's for sure! I was walkin the little kid I watch the other day, her dad rides...I said I know a motorcycle song...it's not very long...
The first concert I ever went to was Arlo Guthrie and John Prine. I was only four, but I remember it very well! None of my friends ever believed this was an actual song. Now they do! Thanks for posting this - made me laugh and reminisce.
I.about died laughing. I have heard this many times and no matter times I hear It laugh. I love Arlo.
.
Arlo Guthrie Is not a hippie, he's a good ol' boy, that tells it like it is...America's Poet, Comic, Entertainer, and about the friendliest guy you'd ever meet. God bless Arlo!
If he wasn't a Hippie, then what kinds of "keys" were being brought into "Los Angelees?" Just asking.. 🤭😏
I ❤ arlo. He songs were appropriate for the era and today
My dad used to play this in the truck on road trips. I lost him January 24th. Listening to all songs that he used to play for me when I was a child. I'm 20. He played this stuff for me when I was 3-17 years old
It's the perfect combo of creative storytelling, great humor, musical talent and impeccable timing. gotta love it.
This song always makes me laugh.I like Arlo. He's just great!
Hello Sinisa Brankovic, I thank you for just being an amazing fan - over the years and following my music. Seriously -I’m so grateful to be able to share my music 🎶 to the world ♥️
So tell me, what’s your favorite album huh🎶
i just watched alice's restaurant last night for the first time, i didn't realize it was made in 1969 till i checked the guide out. i was 4 yrs old back then. and now i'm watching this video now and it still feels like a life time ago sometimes i wish i could plant my self now back in time.
I've been teaching my 8 year old Grand-daughter this song, she loves it. Alice's restaurant also.
I sing this to my young grandchildren each time we see a motorcycle drive by. They love it!
Hello Gloria Serido, I thank you for just being an amazing fan - over the years and following my music. Seriously -I’m so grateful to be able to share my music 🎶 to the world ♥️
This song made me an Arlo Guthrie fan. In 1969 they were shooting the Alice's Restaurant movie, in the Berkshires. Some kids from my boarding school were extras. Some of those kids, turned me onto Arlo's music. I've been a fan ever since.
a teacher sang this at camp. i was shaking and laughing so hard i was crying. unfortunately, only he and i got it, because i go to school in switzerland and we were in southern germany.
I love Arlo Guthrie. I [used to] have everything he ever did! He's just a fantastic person, always has been.
I bought my little brother his first motorcycle too. He drove into a wall first time out. He smiled and I knew he was a biker. ;)
I ADORE Arlo Guthrie. This is the third of his songs I'm posting on Facebook tonight.
Hello Debbie McDonald Williams, I thank you for just being an amazing fan - over the years and following my music. Seriously -I’m so grateful to be able to share my music 🎶 to the world ♥️
Thanks Arlo..been one of my favorites since way back..when I was workin for Alice polishing pie trays n recycling rubber bullits
12 years after and I’m still watching listening this song. It’s simply amazing.
I used to sing this to my daughter when she was litt.e
I'm very pleased to know I'm not the only one that loves😃😊the song but when last did you play it.
Brilliant lyrics. A treasured childhood memory.
This is one of the top two favorite songs of my recently deceased sweetheart of 4 years (Feb 1956 - March 2013). His other favorite songs is "Wear Your Love Like Heaven" by Donovan. I've had the pleasure of performing both songs live in his honor. :-)
Cassendre Xavier
Love this, it's so great! What a funny song - his Dad was a Singer, can you imagine having this as a cartoon along with the song? It would be fun to watch. Love this entire album!
And this is exactly why I've just gotta love Arlo Guthrie!
This takes me back, I keep looking for me in the crowd!
I love listening to his stories. I kind of miss his stories.
I deicate this to Victoria, who always played this song when we hung out! She was the prettiest woman in Scudder Hall at Suny New Paltz, back in 1983! Well, our short relationship was like most typical relationships in college--it didn't last long! ! I was glad to find out many years later that she was married, with child on the way! Peace, BobbyK
My 6 year old son loves this song. Arlo is great. Good music is not made anymore. Good folk music is great, the understanding of America and our DEMORCRATIC ways!
Woody was one of the best traditional American songwriters of the 20th century, and his son is one of the best singing comedians around, and this video is a good example of why. His sense of the absurd, in America and in life, is just so brilliant. In his later years, he's become more of a concert guitarist and traditionalist and less of a comedian, but his early work is on record, and that's a blessing.
i may be 13 but this song makes me laugh every single time!! me and my dad watch this vid every chance we get!! loved it!!
Love this man! RIP to his gorgeous wife Jackie.... They were truly blessed! Oh, and I wanna ride my motor-cicle!
Hello SueJ999, I thank you for just being an amazing fan - over the years and following my music. Seriously -I’m so grateful to be able to share my music 🎶 to the world ♥️

A simple but neat location for a concert. Arlo was 1 really cool dude that also happened to be 1 heck of a great musician. Hate I never got to see him in concert & hear some of his many stories along w/ the great music.
And the snow is finally melting... I wanna ride my Motorcycle!! :P
I DIDN'T KNOW THIS WAS A REAL SONG!
my brother played it when I was little, and I always thought HE wrote it.

Song brings back a lot of memories... at least the one's I can remember!
No way, man. I am completely clear headed right now (not stoned), as I am most of the time, and I enjoy it thoroughly every time!

Born in 2000, I've always loved Arlo Guthrie's music. I don't know why I love this song above many others. Most likely because this was one of the first of his I'd ever heard.
Love the classics! ^u^
When I listen to this song, I always get the urge to grab a cold one
Listening to this in feet and feet of snow
a good friend of mine just passed away a couple of weeks ago... he introduced me to this rediculous song... i love it now, and it will always remind me of him
This could very well be the greatest song of all time.
I ride and I have always sang this to my little girl. She is seven now and she listens to it on youtube.

Hello Sherri-Lynn Jadesun, I thank you for just being an amazing fan - over the years and following my music. Seriously -I’m so grateful to be able to share my music 🎶 to the world ♥️
Believe a persons truth and real character can easy be found in the kind of music they are moved by.
"luckily I didn't go into the mountain... I went over the cliff I was doing 150 miles an hour sideways and 500 feet down at the same time..."
That takes skill
love this song!!!!!!!!(even though most of it isn't a song)
grew up with this... thanksgivings.
thanks pk
Been a long time since I listened to this. I remember singing this with friends on the school bus home in 1974.
I love Arlo Guthrie. And this one is one of my favorites.
Arlo is one of my hero's! My buddy Thomas & I (motorcycle wierdos) have listened to "The Significance of the Pickle" version at least six billion times... and I'm no exaggerator either!!! When's he gonna come back to Oklahoma City and play?
I live in a small, one-cafe town where the waitress never can remember that I don't want a pickle. I think I'll send this gem to her, see if things change on the waisted pickle scene...
I love this song and the performance. A perfect shaggy dog story and such a blessing to hear. I first heard a version of this song in college from a hall mate named Steve and I embraced it as a song for me to find and have in my collection one day. Thank you for sharing this!!
I saw him live back in the 70's at the chester fritz auditorium in Grand forks ND, laughed our asses off it was great changing the broken string doing 150 mph,
My dad took me to see him in 2011 and just last year, and both times we laughed like hell, having a great ol' time.
Saw him and the whole family do this 6 months or so ago...so 8 years plus 35 years and it's still great!!!
I love this song!
