I watched James Bond for the first time a couple of years ago and marathoned through most of them. My personal favorites are On Her Majesty's Secret Service and The Living Daylights.

I was born in 93 so growing up Brosnan was always bond for me. I even remember playing the hell out of nightfire on ps2. I've since watched (I believe) all 007 films. I gotta say my favorite is Casino Royale. I keep rewatching it and it has everything going for it. My girlfriend of 9 years hates the fact that I like these movies but even she enjoyed Casino Royale, so that's gotta say something.

@Vincent H. I watched GoldenEye before I ever saw Casino Royale. It's as straight forward as that. I also watched way more action movies as a little kid than in my teenage years.

For Your eyes only is really good, Roger Moore shows his serious side, and he is very bad ass in this, especially in the tail end of the film, highly recommend to rewatch.

For me THUNDERBALL is the Epitome of the James Bond movies. And the peak of Sean Connery as James Bond. Actually in this movie Connery IS James Bond. Connery's performance is unique here. In Dr No he is magnificent but yet a little stiff and in search of how to portray his character. In FRWL he adds more and becomes more Bond. In Goldfinger he almost reaches perfection. But in Thunderball he superpasses it. He seems more self confident than ever. He is dark and gritty but also suave and charming. He is tough and ruthless and at the same time witty and sensitive. His style here is unreachable. And you can see that he enjoys playing the character more than ever before or afterwards. Also the settings are wonderfull, the exotic places beautiful and even the style incomparable. In addition, in spite of what some say, I believe that the underwater battle is fantastic and a unique piece of cinematography. For me this is the best Bond film of all time. Second comes FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE which is, beyond the Bond franchise, one of the most iconic and thrilling espionage - spy movies of all time and the fight with Grant in the train is one of the most classic scenes in the history of cinema

The S Level is, in order: Casino Royale, License to Kill, Living Daylights, and then Goldeneye. A Level includes Thunderball; two words, Fiona Volpe, For Your Eyes Only; great action, credible plot, and Vijay Amritraj & Kabir Bedi, and Octopussy; grounded in a good way. F Level is Skyfall; it is just silly, Diamonds are Forever; Connery phones it in, and Die Another Day; Vanish and wind surfing.

Loved the 007 reviews. A couple of interesting side notes...
I too have been a Bond fan all my life. When Octopussy came out we were new to 6th and Gibbs and I remember being asked a number of times at church "what movie did you see last night?" having to say "Octopussy" at church was awkward...

8:43 i think the james bond films usually followed the trends. like u said, star wars was huuuge in the late 70s, so bond went the same way with space stuff. in 1975 an iconic film named Jaws came out, and the next film after the man with the golden gun had ofc a jaws kinda theme. with the villian jaws, sharks in the film, under water base etc. in 89, the film, lincense to kill came out and was literally a sequal to ``Miami vice`` . probably the biggest tv series back in the 80s. etc and its so 80s, white clothing, we are in Florida, drug dealers, spanish speakers . just like miami vice

@@SethBailey Thunderball’s theme is one of the best of the entire series. Unreal you would even think think that. Tom Jones’ vocals truly encapsulates the mood of the 60s. I think skyfall is an outstanding movie, however I have 1 major beef with it, I always loved the idea that all the bonds were part of a single universe. That 007 & James Bond was like a code name given to many spies over the years. Skyfall takes a huge steaming dump on this theory with James going to his old family home and stuff. What kind of spy uses his real name? Fantastic movie, still makes me fume.

Most of the Bond films didnt age well. Lots have changed since the Connery- Moore era. Those movies had really funny action scenes especially the Roger Moore ones. Almost unfair to compare them with the latest ones but watching them again I can only say that I watch them only to bring back memories from the 70s and 80s when my father used to take me as a little kid to watch those movies. Still Connery is my favourite Bond but my favourite Bond movies are 1) Casino Royale, 2) Skyfall , 3) Goldeneye and Goldfinger as an honorable mension.

No two Bond rankings are the same. To prove the point here are mine (worst to best in each category):
E - Thunderball (my least favourite Bond), Spectre (I know it's controversial to be this low...), Quantum of Solace (just didn't care for it at all)
D - You Only Live Twice (The 'Asian'd Up' Sean Connery is ridiculous), Octopussy (great female lead squandered on a series that had gotten boring and lazy), Moonraker (the first half is pretty much A tier, especially the 'horror' stuff with the dogs on the estate, but then they go into space and ruin it. Star Wars this ain't)
C - For Your Eyes Only (I also can't remember anything about it except it was fine enough!), Dr. No (as the first deserves respect but is also dated), OHMSS (great Bond movie, Diana Rigg is incredible, but Lazenby is *terrible* and drops it a few pegs all on his own), Diamonds Are Forever (almost excellent but the whole thing feels like a jolly jaunt, when it would suit much better if Bond was out for proper revenge and something was made of it), Live and Let Die (it's great and all but I've never understood why people say it's top tier. It's OK), The World is Not Enough (Christmas Jones and a chainsaw eating up the docks stick out in my mind as things I don't like. Electra and Renard are things I do. And I always like Brosnan and Valentine)
B - Licence to Kill (Dalton is my favourite Bond, and I like the more serious tone, but sometimes it goes *too* dark and not crowd pleasing enough. Sadistic mean-ness doesn't suit the MGM Bond, at least to this level. Kickass non-Bond action movie though), Die Anotber Day (this gets a pass for me for how much it does right... but the over reliance on shoddy CGI is a trend I'm glad future Bond movies tried to stop. I'm also a fan of Rosamund Pike), A View to a Kill (a surrealist mishmash of things that don't go together and shouldn't work but do. I'll watch Walken in anything, and May Day is iconic, but the tone is uneven and they should have made a thing of Moore's age to add tension and gravitas), The Spy Who Loved Me (the movie I think does nothing at all wrong but nor does it blow me away with anything it does. Totally solid and like I said, without real fault)
A - Tomorrow Never Dies (Totally underrated. Michelle Yeoh is awesome, Carver is a proper hateful little man, it's got a strong henchman, iconic servant baddies like the torturer, and Terri Hatcher's fate makes it even more interesting. I think it's an underrated gem and don't see why anybody doesn't like it. Also, helicopter stunt is great), Skyfall (of course it's so high!), The Man with the Golden Gun (one of two controversial options... I love Scaramanga. I love Maud Adam's and her role in this. That it's campy and ridiculous works for me for once. I shouldn't like it because it has everything in a Bond I hate, but for some reason it works for me, possibly because it's just so FUN!)
S - Casino Royale (it can't not be. I might not like Craig's Bond - I really don't- but I can't flaw how great this movie actually is), From Russia with Love (Kleb, train fight, and Tatiana - all iconic), Goldfinger (because it has to be here doesn't it? Plus I've fancied Honour Blackman most of my life so...), Goldeneye (The Bond for 90's kids like me. Iconic and yes, nostalgia cheats, but it just works for me. I clearly like 'Dark Bond' characters like Gustav Graves and Scaramanga, so Alec Trevelyan just works for me as my favourite ever Bond villain by far. Not that Orumov or Onatopp or Boris aren't all iconic villains either! I mean all four together are villain royalty- one would be iconic for a Bond movie but all four together... and that's not mentioning all of the other cast members who debut here - female M, Samantha Bond Moneypenny, Valentine... the whole movie is packed to the gills. In pure movie terms it never gets better than this. Except...), The Living Daylights (for me the best Bond in Timothy Dalton. And I find this movie just a delight - but it's a nostalgia fest, not because it really is the best. Either way enjoy!)

Thunderball should NOT be in F-tier simply for the Tom Jones theme song alone. Low D.
    Her Majety's...meh.
    Diamonds is HILARIOUS. Almost spoofy.
    Roger Moore was "my Bond"
