This is an amazing piece of art. I'm not Irish, but I got here through Lisa Lambe's songs, and decided to watch it. I saved up two months of my allowance and bought the DVD. It was definitely worth it and more.
I just ordered the CD and DVD of this show. It looks so interesting and awesome. I love historical shows like these. From what I've seen so far, I can tell this is worth to buy. Lisa Lambe is my favorite :)
The Bloody Irish is brilliant! Just wish I could see more of it Well done to Barry Devlin and everyone! I cannot wait to see it in Dublin in 2016. Marita Conlon- McKenna
+Marita Conlon- McKenna Thanks for your appreciation Marita. We have every intention of bringing the show back to Ireland in the summer of 2016 once it has finished its Broadway run and tour of the Eastern USA. The full scale show will be something to behold! We are proud to be baring witness to these extraordinary men and women who risked so much for what they thought was the only way left for them to stand up to tyranny. May they be honored and remembered by this work. Michael Barker-Caven
Do you remember the day you went to the library in wexford I was there and I have a poster with you're siniture it was for under the hortorn tree what a good book from black water fifth
+Nathan Hoy +Nathan Hoy Sorry, I wasn't talking about you. I was talking to the crew of the drama. I hope they come to Bangalore and perform it. People would love it!!
+Scott Sutton Thank you Scott. Glad you enjoyed. Look out for the stage show when it comes to the US in the spring. It will be about 30 minutes longer than the special we shot for PBS and I think you'll enjoy even more. The live experience is far, far superior. Look out for tour dates when they are posted on our website www.thebloodyirish.com/
The first scene was one of the most haunting scenes I've ever seen. I really hope someone puts the full version on TH-cam. I'd go see it, but I don't think it's in the us yet, and I have an ear problem that make scenes with pyrotechnics difficult.
I am sorry to have to confirm that due to unforeseen circumstances in New York, the producers in Dublin had to postpone the planned Broadway run of The Bloody Irish! this April. Although very disappointing, it is still the intention that the show will take to the stage sometime in the near future - most probably in Ireland. Watch this space for further updates.
The song is called "The Minstrel Boy". It's on the CD and CD/DVD combo from www.shoppbs.org. Note: the DVD may not play on none American TV systems. North American and European TV systems are different formats.
Finally got my copy a few days ago, and got to watch it today. It is wonderfully done, I LOVED it. I especially enjoyed your interpretation of Easter 1916 by Yeats. However, it was awfully brief. I noticed That PBS describes the DVD as a screening. Does this mean there might be future additions and edits, and that y'all are working on a bigger budget production? The show would have been more hard hitting if the minor characters were fleshed out more, and y'all went more deeply into the plight of Dublin's citizens.
Brilliant fantastic if it ever comes to the West End London MUST SEE !!! .One small anorak point, the British Soldiers should be carrying .303 SMLE (Short magazine Lee Enfield). The Mark 4 Lee Enfield they are carrying came out 24 yrs later during WW2 ps The Foggy Dew my most favorite song.
+wheelchairby284 It's Mo Ghile Mear" (My Gallant Darling); a lament for a fallen hero by the Gaelic goddess Éire - originally composed back in the 17th century for Bonnie Prince Charlie, who was then in exile.
+jayoungr It's actually a traditional song but with new lyrics in English(Its normally sung in Irish). Called Óró, sé do bheatha 'bhaile, its a rousing homage to the great Irish 'pirate queen' Gráinne Mhaol and her faithful warriors. It was sung by the volunteers in the GPO to keep their spirits up, hence the use here.
+Michael Barker-Caven: Theatre & Opera Director Oh! I know that song, but I didn't recognize it in this version--slightly different rhythm, maybe? Thanks for letting us know. I'm in the US and unfortunately missed this when it was on PBS last fall, but I hope I'll have a chance to see the whole thing sometime!
I think its a mix of one written for the show before breaking into their version of Oró sé do bheath abhaile. Here is another version, and one i think is more appropriate (just my opinion) of that song from 'the wind that shakes the barley' th-cam.com/video/n730FWycrTY/w-d-xo.html
The Minstrel Boy. The words were written by Thomas Moore in 1802 after the 1798 Rebellion for his friends that were killed in that Rebellion, including Lord Edward Fitzgerald. The tune though is called Mooreen, which is centuries older. You may recognise The Minstrel Boy from various films, TV series and gaming. From Black Hawk Down, Star Trek and the game, Assasins Creed
is there anyway I can get the sound track downloaded or posted to Ireland? I found one site and it only deals with Canda or America. Many thanks amanda
Not a named character but he does have a few songs, he plays an Irish soldier, at one time a British soldier, and an Irish citizen too. Much of the cast fill different roles.

In The Foggy Dew, Lisa is walking like she's still in Celtic Woman.

Which is the song that is sung at 04:52?
+Sameer Athreya It doesn't sound traditional; my guess is that it probably was written for the show.
