I lived in Thailand for 3 years & met Brett when I first arrived in Chiang Mai. I avoided the bar scene for the first 6 months, but it was like telling a kid, "Don't take any cookies from the cookie jar!" I too "fell in love" with a bar girl. After a couple years we wanted to move to her village in Issan to start a new life. Although I was making money online, my fiancé felt it wasn't enough, so she left me & went back to her bar. Depression & drinking then further crushed my Digital Nomad dream. If you think it could never happen to you, ask Brett his opinion, and he'll just roll his eyes.

@@walkerskii I understand but I still couldn’t do this, it’s like an invisible wall protecting me from falling in love with a prostitute… I know this business and it’s people for far too long, doesn’t matter if it’s in Thailand or anywhere else in the world, just know that women in this job are not housewives, their job is leaving marks on them and the easy money is just too attractive. For me visiting a prostitute is like a business agreement, go in, finish and leave. Not to mention that Thailand is probably the last country you have to visit a prostitute, dating possibilities are huge and there is really no need for it except for having some fun. But I don’t want to point fingers, everybody makes mistakes in his lifetime (oh hell did I).

@@DRock7977 I would never use the internet hook up sites to meet Thai girls. Those girls can put on false images. You are safest meeting them in person. And you really need to give them a couple of years to see how they really are before committing. However in my opinion Thai girls are totally different to western girls, they don't have attitude and are not entitled.

Love Chiang Mai. That's my retirement home!! Spent March to Dec there last year, and even though it wsa during the lockdown it was still the most awesome place ... I lived outside of Chiang Mai (Sankapeang) where it much more authentic Thai ... took a Thai language course (3 months there, and continued online courses here ... a great place to meet other foreigners, and the Thai teachers are great not only for learning the language but as 'consultants' to introduce you to the real Thai culture.)

I agree with Brett once again. I live in Pattaya but I have been here 18 years. I don't smoke or drink and I don't go to the bars. I go to the beach in the early evening and spend zero money, I just bull shit with my friends. The temptations in Pattaya are many, even on my way home they try to get me in their bars. I have a friend that sold his house in California and he was going to retire here in Pattaya forever. He blew through 300,000 dollars in 2 years. He had it all and he lost it all and sadly had to go back and get a job. The only reason I can resist the temptations is I ran out of money, but luckily for me Social Security kicked in.
Spot on Brett. My first trip to Thailand in late 2019 I was there for work, but took some personal time off to site see and party a bit. Phuket I found myself blowing through a great deal of money in the club scene. It was great to get a lot of attention from beautiful people but costly. Buying drinks, shots, meals and more drains the wallet and fast. When I do relocate there to live it will NOT be in a beach party city.
@@brett_dev That's insane. I was only in Phuket for 5 days thank God. I spent more money in Phuket in 5 days than in Bangkok for 12 days, but I only did the night scene in Bangkok 1 night. But I can see spending too much in Bangkok as well if I got into the clubbing mode. People I met there and used to work with there all tell me live in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai or Udon Thani for a better life. I like nature so the Chiang Mai area is more tempting for me for a place to actually live.
Whatever country you go to, respect the locals...it’s a rule that I apply in life and in business- always served me well. With regards to Thailand; as Brett said focus on what you are going there for. If it is fun- then there is loads to be had and just say that upfront to the girls but just know your limits know your red lines and don’t cross them. It is quite likely that you are not the first foreign guy these girls meet- they have heard everything you can say beforehand.
i don't know if i was lucky or anything, but most girls i dated in bangkok were from super rich families, and they probably paid for more stuff than me in the end. Plus they seem afraid of the cliche of the gold digger and always wants to participate on dates to show they're not part of that

I have found your channel by accident and such an interesting topics you talk about. I would like to express my opinion as a Thai person who has seen a lot of foreigners being deceived by bar girls . I suggest that foreigners should adapt like Thai men do when going to bars-They'd go have fun, pay money then go home, no commitments, no monthly paid. To be honest , we Thais not quite understand why many Farang man get too emotional and let yourself into dramatic problem like that. And if you want to see real thai way of life, I recommend trying to stay in secondary cities such as Nan, Lampang, Tak, etc. These cities already have basic amenities. And in border towns you can even apply for volunteer work if you need some experiences. I've noticed that foreigners tend to gather only in big cities like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket. Those cities are hardly even cities for Thai people.- just my opinion.

It comes down to street smarts when dealing with bar girls in a relationship, you must semi know what their industry is like aswell as the life style of it, also you must realise most Thai men dont pay a monthly fee for having a Thai girlfriend and many men who are foreigners believe its normal to pay them every month which is not, you can have a bar girl as a great girlfriend but you must know how it all works if a lady truly loves you and cares she wont ask for a single cent or drink from you, she will actually buy you food etc. Like a normal relationship, but for many first timers and 3rd timers in Thailand stay away from a relationship until you know their experiences on a physical and mental level because if you dont you will get eaten alive
Very good advice all around. I personally have been looking at Hua Hin. For pretty much most of the reasons mentioned in this video. Plus the whole crazy party thing is not why I want to be in Thailand. But having that focused game plan for business is critical, no matter where you want to live, but even more so when you are living as an expat. Plus the camera set up was cool.
I have heard experts say that if you are an American who has a gambling problem, don't retire to Las Vegas which has several casinos. Your bad habits will get more intense and you will financially ruin yourself. By the same token, don't go to a partying town with lots of bars in Thailand if you want to live a quiet, modest life without being distracted by alcohol and the temptation to have casual sex with randomly selected partners.
That was fifteen minutes of produtive education, apreciated, hopefully taken on board. Acting upon it is the test for most coming to Thailand. Look forward to it's continuation and your experience /advice

I do know a guy (not me) who blew $220,000 in two years in the bars. Plus bars used to be ok for a cheapish night out, but not any more. Drink prices are throught the roof, bar fines crazy. On the plus side though having a Thai wife as I do means I can live really cheaply if I want to here. She knows all the deals and also we can live in her village which I love.
This is very true. I have done a lot of bars and girls over nearly 25 years. But I could never see myself 'taking care' of a woman for life. and settle there. Doing what? So I have my fun, and leave it at that.

You so right on this and previous videos if you are going to work as a digital nomad, you need a clear structured project plan and stick to it. I am structured and usually will do up a whole project plan in a word document, and then I will do cost benefit analysis and also, pros and cons, and a risk assessment of what could go wrong.
Your advice is all smart thinking. I guess I was naive with my time in Thailand. Pattaya was barely a blip on my radar. I just heard it was Bangkok's beach town. It's not until I started binging travel videos in lockdown that I got to know the place. Getting your business established is so important for success. Some people might manage it, but moving to Thailand is a huge culture shock - in a great way - and it was weeks before I was fully productive. I wanted to explore and eat and explore some more. Trying to learn your skill and build a business from scratch seems like it would take the really fun travel experience, and bog it down with a bunch of stress.

I've known dudes go through like £10,000 in a month when their plan originally was to live here for a year.

If CM sorts out the burning season pollution problem, it would be arguably the number 1 place to be, well for those that don’t want the coast.

I do know a guy (not me) who blew $220,000 in two years in the bars. Plus bars used to be ok for a cheapish night out, but not any more. Drink prices are throught the roof, bar fines crazy.
On the plus side though having a Thai wife as I do means I can live really cheaply if I want to here. She knows all the deals and also we can live in her village which I love.

This is very true. I have done a lot of bars and girls over nearly 25 years. But I could never see myself 'taking care' of a woman for life. and settle there. Doing what?

I am retired and will not be a digital nomad but my monthly retirement income will allow me to live very comfortablely over in eastern Thailand.

You so right on this and previous videos if you are going to work as a digital nomad, you need a clear structured project plan and stick to it. I am structured and usually will do up a whole project plan in a word document, and then I will do cost benefit analysis and also, pros and cons, and a risk assessment of what could go wrong.

Your advice is all smart thinking. I guess I was naive with my time in Thailand. Pattaya was barely a blip on my radar. I just heard it was Bangkok's beach town. It's not until I started binging travel videos in lockdown that I got to know the place. Getting your business established is so important for success. Some people might manage it, but moving to Thailand is a huge culture shock - in a great way - and it was weeks before I was fully productive. I wanted to explore and eat and explore some more. Trying to learn your skill and build a business from scratch seems like it would take the really fun travel experience, and bog it down with a bunch of stress.

@@brett_dev just wanted to say what happened to me turned into the holiday girlfriend.... but wanted to say I remember on my 2019 trip to phuket... during breakfast I overheard one guy telling I guess his friend what he needs to do to get the quite obviously bar girl visa to back home the guy about 50 obese the girl I dunno 100 pounds wet... if you're in Thailand you would have seen this scenario play out way to much.... again I fell into naughty side of things twice tbh but I knew it was a superficial agreement .... anyway have a good day
