    That is the wisest nomad advice I've ever heard. You truly nailed it. Practical honesty: Few things are more valuable in this life.

    Been living in Chiang Mai for 6 years haven't attended a single nomad meetup and living on a 20-year elite visa.
    Best advice keep it simple, don't brag to your friends, and be careful who you surround yourself with :)

      You'll get the standard 30 days entry depending on where you're from but getting a visa ain't gonna happen with a criminal record. I think....

      @@brendangoodbrand2597 It's worth doing your research but Thailand is renowned for being a bureaucratic nightmare and criminal record will not help. Even something minor like a DUI will scupper your chances of ever retiring there but good luck whatever you do!

      @@brendangoodbrand2597 Depends on the offense. If it's a felony charge then probably not. If it's a minor charge you can probably get away with it. My advice would be to submit an application and if you get approved you'll have 3 months to pay.

    My best advice is have your online business settled before you go.
    I'm earning about $1600-$2200/month passively, I will move to Thailand in 3-5 months I will have no problem living in Thailand.
    If you build your business in Thailand even with a big buffer if your not careful with your spending you can lose your money and be stressed, at least have something established before you move

    The big difference is that successful ex-pats have planed well and made their money before they even decide to live in Thailand. We maximize our best money making years in our home countries , invest well so that when we come to Thailand to live out our dream life money is the least of our problems!! Once here we continue to invest (not in Thai ventures which is usually a losing proposition) we don’t rest on our laurels but enjoy them👍👍 Young guys today don’t seem to have financial discipline. They want it all easily and yesterday🥴🥴🥴🥴

    Brett, have you done a vlog about Thailand's medical services? I have lived and worked in a lot of places and Thailand has the best and most affordable medical services by miles. Thais can register for medical with a one time 30 Bhatt ($1) fee. Then get free hospital treatment. In the US a visit to the ER where I did not get treated, one time was billed at nearly $6,000. The ER was too busy to treat me so the bill was for the privilege of triage and waiting four hours while really sick and a 104F temperature. In the UK when I had to go to the ER, they put me on a trolley and left me to die. They seemed annoyed that I lived, and that was only because the wife at the time turned up and although she hated me she wanted the income to continue - true. In Thailand I had the same issue as in the US - this is all over like 20 years so I don't keep getting sick).
    My Thai wife took me to the hospital where I was seen immediately, got diagnosed, x-rayed all sorts of tests, and medication. I am almost recovered by the time I got out the treatment was so good. Billed about $150. Yes one hundred and fifty dollars.
    That said you are in no rush to get out of a Thai hospital, the nurses are gorgeous.
    Retired here and love it.

    I am going to be 60 years old in July and all I am waiting for is for the restrictions to be lifted so that I can travel. I will be coming to Thailand but with enough income so that I don't have to work. I have made my money working40 years and I intend not to work again other than on my investments. You guys are young and all that you say is true.
    If my son decides to live with me then I might look at a business for him to keep him busy. So it would not be a business that has to make a lot of money. I was planning to leave my job in Spain and come back to live in Thailand, but in two years the world has changed and I think now is a great opportunity to come back to live in Thailand and work online. And also, luckily, I have the possibility to work in a company in Bangkok as a graphic and web designer. I think I have the knowledge, experience, skills and passion to be able to make money with my business. Will return to USA for one month in Sep and in October, returning with plans to narrow down even more. Probably MY, TH or VN. Have ruled out (reluctantly) ID and PH. I'm striving for a balance of part city center and part country retreat. MY gets an edge as English is somewhat standard. What's up with you?

    Great video again Brett thanks! I have a question or possibly an angle that you've not covered yet. I'm looking to move with my wife but when we spent time previously in SE Asia we noticed most of the digital nomads were men. Do you have any advice for women moving to Thailand? E.g how best to find like-minded friends or other business-women?

    Hi Brett, great channel with great content and very informative which is why i like watching your streams when they come, there's never enough of them though 😂. My plan is to hopefully move to Thailand within the next two possibly 3 years (or sooner finance allowing ) and i will fund myself for the first 2 years from UK income/houser rental which will allow me time to blend in to the Thai culture (all being good and well of course). If all goes to plan i may even start my own you tube channel (just kidding :)....I also hope to meet up with you for a coffee and chat when i get there 😎... Keep up the good work!

    Hi Brett, I have been proposed to move to Chiang Mai by a company called CLBS based there. They offered me 26.8Bath a month.
    Cause you've been living there for years, do you think it may be worth it?
    Can I decorously live there with that money?
    They also said I'll be getting 8t Bath every 3months as extra, bonuses and whatever.
    I'd like to hear your opinion on this.
    Thanks mate🙏🍻

      It is enough to live but I think you can get better than that. At least for expat should be 50,000 ++

    • @matteoroveretto465
      @matteoroveretto465 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SarisaT well Mim it may depends on what you're supposed to do. In fact, it is that kind of job with less in terms of responsibilities. I look at this option just as a sure way to get an immediate work permit and experiencing as long term visitor Thailand. This is it pretty honestly.
      I was thinking of renting, bills, mobile phone, food etc etc and it seems to me 26.8bath per month might not be enough for a decent living.

      @@matteoroveretto465 I just replied as a Thai that live here and also work with many expats earn more than that. You can live with this amount for good if you live alone in a studio room and eat street foods or also good food and have some left to traveling around. @@matteoroveretto465 Hey matteo, when i first moved to Chiang Mai, Thailand 7 years ago my first job paid 27,000. I was able to survive, save a few 1000 baht for a night out at the weekend. Eat western food as a treat now and again. I had some of the best times of my life back then on such little money. :) I did that for around 12+ months. You'll probably find other opportunities once you are here as we all do!

    This is good advice for the most part. But having lived in Thailand before as a digital nomad (had to temporarily return to the US for personal reasons), I would add a few points:
    1. Visit Thailand as a tourist for a month or so before committing. Because for all you know, you might not like it.
    2. Get your ducks in a row before committing to the move. First and foremost, you need savings. I would say $10,000 is the bare minimum for a single person. $15,000 for a couple. Preferably, set up your online business/remote job while you are still in your home country. If it is a US-based remote job, your target salary should be in the $60,000 range. Pretty much anybody can learn bough skills to land one of those within 6 months. If it is an online business, make sure it has been producing some profit for at least 6 months. Also, you have what I call “guest worker” expats.
    The whole goal of this is to leverage your cost of living to your advantage. Let’s say you make $60,000 per year. If you are American, that is $4,000 after taxes. In America, you would be lucky to have $500 left at the end of each month in most cities with a salary like that. Unless you go full Dave Ramsey or something like that, living with roommates. In Thailand, you can live pretty good for $1,500 as a single person, a quality of life you couldn’t afford without going into debt in the US. If you are with your partner, make that $1,800. If you have a kid, $2,500. You get the idea… but let’s say you are a single dude making that $4,000 salary after taxes, that leaves you with $2,500 at the end of each month. So what you do, is take that $2,500 and invest it into other ventures, assets, etc. That is the whole idea of leveraging the low cost of living. And the whole point of moving to a place like Thailand. But if you move there to teach English, you will make just enough to survive. In essence, you will be living just like you did I. The US, UK, or wherever you came from. Just a change of scenery.

      What would be those skills that you mentioned ? I need to escape the west but find it difficult to find the escape route

    • @RealPolitik-dy4it
      @RealPolitik-dy4it 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pb7073 I went the tech route (software development). Once your skills are up to par, you can get a decent- paying remote job. You can also freelance/independent contractor. Some people go the graphic design, sales, affiliate marketing, drop shipping, and copywriting routes. But my knowledge of these fields is limited.
      Something else people do is work 6 weeks on, 6 weeks off, where you spend the 6 weeks off in Thailand. But those are mostly physical jobs, and at times dangerous. Merchant marine, oilfield, offshore oil platform, seasonal trucking, fishing, etc. I met one guy who works on a fishing vessel in Alaska for a few months, and the money he makes is enough to last him in Southeast Asia for the rest of the year.
