I have the QD4, bought for a cheap PC for my daughter. It works great, I unlocked turbo easily and it's doing its job.

QD4! I was just looking at buying one of those. You're a gentleman and a scholar.
I just bought a QD4 (because you reviewed it) and it is easily the best X99 board I own. It supports ECC that actually works and will boot without a video card, which makes it perfect for a small headless server. I own about a half dozen X79 and X99 boards (mostly because you reviewed them), and the QD4 is better than all of them.
What do you do with all these boards? 😮
@@Miyconst I built a few servers and a few workstations. I just installed Proxmox on a 16C/32T Xeon E5-2683v4 on the QD4. Mostly it's just for fun. I love oddball hardware that I can install Linux on. I have probably 30 different Arm based single board computers. I ran out of /24 addresses in my house and had to increase the subnet to /22. I have a problem.

@@fauzanmuharram4202 Yes. And it's the only X99 board that I own that works properly. All my X79 stuff works fine, but every other X99 board I own will use unbuffered ECC and registered ECC just fine, but ECC will not be enabled. On the QD4 ECC memory is detected and ECC is actually enabled. Dmesg in Linux shows that EDAC Bridge detects and enables ECC normally.

Great video. I'm surprised the QD4 can handle a 2690v3. I was afraid to buy it to use a 2666v3 and ended up choosing the MR9A instead.
X99-MR9A is not a bad option, don't feel too sad about it.
Just make sure that the TDP of the CPU you choose is no more than 120W and you are good to go.

I say the LGA 2011-3 platform is still enticing if you have old CPUs lying around, my machine has an ASUS Z10PE-D8 WS, running dual Xeon e5-2690 v3's, and I have 2 2650 v3 engineering sample CPUs lying around. I think they'll do great for budget server rigs.
One more update about the QD4. I'm using it in a RAID server with a bunch of hard drives. The onboard SATA ports are bad. They trashed the data on two of my drives causing lots of RAID errors. I replaced multiple drives before I figured out the onboard SATA ports were the problem. PCIe SATA cards work just fine though. Forums online are saying similar things about board reliability. Otherwise the board is very good.
Yeah.. this is a sad problem with all connections that go through the chipset, like SATA, USB, and Audio, also LAN.

I am just testing this motherboard after your review and it is working very good. I remember we were dreaming about our x99 dram board with this form factor and slot layout, this is only missing the wifi card slot. Very interesting to know about the memory VRM, wonder how that works on ddr3 version where there is so much more power going through..
I guess only testing will tell, but DDR3 is really power hungry.

Congratulations on the videos you publish, they are very interesting. I wanted to share my experience with a huananzhi x99 qd4 with a 2660v3 bought on Ali's 2023 anniversary. When I received it, it started the first time and whenever I turned off the power it started with a double start. I did the TB with -50/-50 and the processor would go to 70-78°C at rest and 90-98°C under load. I went back to the original BIOS and when I turned on the board it started when It wanted until it stopped turning on. Do you think that the BIOS has been corrupted when flashing it again or the board with the TB has been damaged? Thank you
sadly, same experience with 2 out of 2 dead boards, just while swapping RAM sticks, not a reliable board for sure

Both of the motherboards have about the same VRM, so there is always a risk of burnout, means you have to ensure good cooling with either of them.
Thanks for the vid! A lot of useful information here. Curious isn't the ram installed incorrectly here. Correct me if I'm wrong shouldn't it be matching color slots?
Which exact RAM installation are you asking about? Colour on its own doesn't indicate anything but on most motherboards yes, you first populate slots of the same colour.

Yes, dead audio chip is unfortunately a common problem of many Chinese X79/X99 motherboards.

My friend has recently bought this motherboard and after installing drivers but not updating BIOS he is getting constant WHEA PCI express root port 1 error device manager - 2F03. Nice video Miyconst. I brought this motherboard but it couldn't be powered by a 700watts powersupply I had to use less wattage PSU. Did anyone face the same problem and did u solve it?
I think it's related to OCP with some PSUs. These X79/X99 boards pull too much current on the 3V rail during initial startup, thus some PSUs think it's a short and turn off.
Please help if you can i have this qd4 which is not powering on but it is producing a funny sound on the power supply even if i change the psu i hear the sound on that new psu what could be the couse

Bad news from my new QD4
Was working fine for 2-3weeks, then read myiconst info and tried mi899 software with 50/50mv modded bios for x99 QD4
1.Flashing finished OK.
2.Then reboot ti enter bios OK
3.Then reset to bios default BUT
4.now does not boot.
No boot beep, no monitor image :(
Tried cmos clear, remove battery, wait more than 1min to go alive, but nothing works.
Looks bricked :(
Can I reflash bios eeprom without removing from mobo?? With any SPI flash programmer??
Same here, it bricked the motherboard. According to guy in PC service moded bios files from mi899 application are defective, only factory bios is ok...

Finally I was able to recover my QD4 by just installing a xeon v3 series processor.
I have a v4 model and that why I bricked it (temporarily 😅)
Then boot with v3 processor, enter BIOS and reinstall original backup, and QD4 recovered 😇
Installed again my v4 and working without any mod until today 😇
My fault for not reading @myiconst mod compatibility. 😅

This is a known problem when Chinese X99 motherboards refuse to work with Chinese SSD drives, unfortunately there is not much you can do, only replace the SSD or the motherboard.

My question is, if I also have to use ddr4 (ECC) server memories with 16 módulos or are all ecc memories compatible?

I said that non-ECC DDR4 memory has compatibility issues and you should look for 16-bank modules. This doesn't apply to ECC or DDR3 memory.

Or more general are chinese branded nvme ssd working on chinese made x79/x99 motherboards? I have a Kllisre x79 mobo right now, but not sure if a Xray or Netac 1TB nvme ssd would work properly on it.
All China branded NVMe SSDs are known to have compatibility issues with Chinese X79/X99 motherboards. The compatibility is very random and thus I would not recommend buying a Chinese NVMe SSD if you have a Chinese X79/X99 motherboard.

It should work but if you get a 4/8 instead of 16-bank modules it won't be compatible. Note, bank != GB. Memory bank is a layout feature, you can read about it on WiKi.

I just bought this after your review but it didn't come with a cpu cooler (Cpu+mobo+ram combo). What cooler are you using and can i use deepcool gammaxx ag200 with it? This cooler doesn't say it supports lga 2011-v3 on website. Cpu is e5 2680 v4
AG200 is an ok cooler and you might be able to use it with the mounting adapter ring.

As far as I know, it's exactly the motherboard and non-Pro, just an updated look and name. Of course I can't guarantee any BIOS compatibility, but it should work with the same BIOS.
Is it possible to work TPM on this? I want to try windows 11 for games like warzone but Valorant doesn't run without TPM 2 on 11
So far I am not aware of such a possibility.
I bought this board recently for a 2640v3 and it always freezes with an nvme drive at the same time during windows loading everytime. I tried different drives, cpu's, and gpu's. Tried reinstalling windows and tried different windows media. Any thoughts? I have a ch341a and am going to try the bios on mi899 soon.
Most likely this is a hardware issue and the only right thing to do is to send it back to China.
@@Miyconst I also tried with an X99 K9 (I believe its the V2 version but with 8 sata ports). It has the exact same issue, even with the bios i-engineer bios(es). Also with 2 different cpu's from different sources, different drives, etc. I am very confused right now 😆, I'd appreciate any feedback or recommendation of what to do (maybe any bios settings?). As far as I know, GTX 1660 Super won't really benefit from ReBar, but you can still try if you are willing to experiment.

Hello, could you give me some advice on how I can increase the memory in my computer? I have a kit exactly like yours and the same processor, but when I add another 32GB 2400MHz module, my computer won't boot. I've tried different combinations in all slots and lowered the frequency to 2133MHz, but nothing I do activates the 64GB of RAM and my computer do not turn on.
Did you test each module individually? Do you have four identical sticks?
@@Miyconst Hello, yes! I initially had only one 32GB stick working in single mode. I bought another 32GB stick to increase my virtualization demands for containers (Proxmox), bringing the total to 64GB in dual channel. I tested each slot individually with both memory sticks, and they were working perfectly in single mode. However, in any combination of slots for dual or otherwise, the computer would not boot. I also updated the BIOS version according to the manufacturer's instructions, but it still didn't work. My motherboard version is from 2022.
Looking in the BIOS, both memory sticks show the same properties, and the only difference is the serial number of the chipset on the memory modules.

Good morning, I have a HUANANZHI x99-QD4, I'm experiencing a problem with it, whenever I restart or turn the computer off and on, it doesn't boot into the system or it doesn't recognize the nvme m.2 hdd and ssd. I make changes to the bios and after restarting many times it starts up again. but every time you turn it off and on it gives the error again. I believe it is an error in the bios system itself. Is there any configuration or update I could do?

What fan, what fan header, what BIOS settings?
Will 2696v3 (TDP 145 W) work just fine on this one? My CPU cooler is "horizontal" type (good, not "stock" one) so it will cool VRM zone a bit aswell.
It will be okay, but you always have to ensure good airfly in your chassis.

I need help. I have bought 1 kllisre ddr4 8GB 3200 desktop memory for my x99 main board but it's not working. I am using corsair vengeance 8 GB 3200 on the same main board but this time it's working but the kllisre 3200 version is not working. what can I do now?
You can replace the RAM. Most likely your Kllisre module is not compatible with the X99 platform.

I’m willing to buy a 1650v3 and I have this QD4 motherboard, could I do overclock? now I have a 2680v4 but the performance in games is poor
So far I have not seen a QD4 BIOS that has Overclocking features but some report that latest batches can do that.

were you able to get the fanspeed in hwinfo or fancontrol in ubuntu?
I didn't test Ubuntu beyond simple boot and running Geekbench test.
I am getting fanspeed in hwinfo as well as hwmonitorsmc2 in macos.
QD4 cpu fan at PWM auto are spinning too fast and hence too loud (CPU + 6 case fans via PWM hub). I have to use Custom Auto mode to reduce fan speed. Machinist MR9A Pro is a much better board with working sleep mode.

I’ve see both your excellent huananzhi qd3/4 and machinist mr9a pro videos.
The only complain I have with QD4 is the loud PWM fans, which have no problem with machinist pr9 and altermiter turbo. Both with windows 11 and Linux.
I’m running macOS Sonoma 14.5 on QD4, going to try install Sonoma on MR9A pro soon, hopefully to get macOS sleep mode working.
I meant to say that right now my favorite X99 motherboard from AliExpress is Machinist X99-MR9A (Pro) because Huananzhi X99-QD4 has got too many quality complaints.

Hello, the Huananzhi website says this board has Q87/Z87 chipset (name only is X99?). Is that possible or changed later or mistake in the website and how it is able to bypass limitation of 87-series?
Please watch the video. This motherboard indeed uses Q87/Z87 or even B85 chipset. What limitations are you asking about?

@@Simpsa69 memory and primary PCI-E lanes are connected directly to the CPU, the chipset is only used for USB / SATA and secondary PCI-E lanes.

@@ikki3430 neither of these Xeons is capable of CPU streaming, so your stream would go through GPU either way, so yeah, E5-2640 V3 even if you plan to stream live.

@@mathias3026 I didn't review this motherboard, but I had a couple of these on my hands. Most of them lack USB 3.0 / SATA 3.0, BIOS is limited and some may come with only two memory channels.

No, Turbo Boost unlock is only possible with BIOS mods.

Hello, how are you ?? so I would like to know with you if I could put an e5 2666 v3 on this motherboard and unlock it to use it for games and editing programs etc, currently it has the e5 2640 v3 so I was wanting to change either to the e5 2666 v3 or to the pro e5 2643 v3 because it has a higher clock rate and I don't need so many cores so that these 2 processors have a TDP of 135w can you help me ??
Please watch the video, I have tested the motherboard and explained everything, in short: yes, you can use E5-2666 V3, but make sure to have good airflow over the VRM zone in your chassis. E5-2643 V3 I find rather pointless, it costs too much and doesn't have anything over E5-2666 V3.

@@Miyconst I wanted to buy those coolers that don't have the tower through which the heat pipes pass, those type cooler box but with heatpipes, which cooled the processor and the VRM too.
Yes, that one helps cooling down the VRM zone, but you still need good airflow in the chassis.

QD4 quality degraded a lot in the last batches, the new BIOS is also unknown, thus I can no longer recommend it.

Used zen 2 and 3 is getting cheap enough that x99 doesn't make much sense anymore. 3600 with a cheap B450 or A520 ftw. The only disadvantage is not getting to use hilariously cheap registered memory.
