      I loved your depiction of the lore around Feldon -- an artificer that didn't want to take sides in the Brother's War. Part of why I love playing Magic is thinking about all the stories that surround the cards, and Feldon is a really interesting guy!

      I actually run a much less expensive version of this (750$) and it's a consistent turn 4 or 5 win, so it still works well in a close to competitive playgroup. I would love to provide a decklist if people seem interested, but I don't see the point of no one cares to hear it.

    It’s funny, when I post casual commander decks, the comments deride the lists as weak and not optimized. When I post a “hog wild” list like this, it’s dismissed as too expensive and only for cEDH. I kind of feel both have merit. I kind of feel it is interesting to watch and consider different builds and power levels and see different interactions. But it is like everyone just wants to be handed a perfect list to run as is that costs no money but wins, but not too cEDH wins, fair wins.

      Can't make everyone happy when you're creating content for such a public and vocal community unfortunately.
      I've got a pretty similar (if not a bit more tame) Chulane deck myself, so this was a joy to watch.
      Rember comments represent less then 10% of your average video views. The majority of us just watch and enjoy. Don't let the vocal minority get you down!

      I see no reason to dislike a deck video leaning towards higher level play *or* casual play as the choice is ultimately up the viewer to actually play it. I play casual edh but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy watching and learning about cedh. Playing with power is one of my favorite channels right now and all they do is cedh! It also helps me learn as a player. If you are one who poops on others playstyle, then perhaps actually giving that style a shot could really change perspectives.

    • @m1gr3nA
      @m1gr3nA 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      90% of the cost of this list can be cut because it's concentrated in only few cards.
      you can do very similar loops with creatures tapping for multiple colors or untaping multiple lands (Faeburrow Elder and Krosan Restorer) and auras granting untap abilities (Freed from the Real and Pemmin's Aura). add self-bouncing creature to that and you cast your entire deck. bonus points if you managed to loop Eternal Witness because you can win with looped Reality Shift. :) all those cards are very budget friendly.
      also this build folds very hard to Torpor Orb effects (only T3feri to bounce) and Control Magic on Chulane and generally any interaction when T3feri or Dosan are not on the battlefield. i would certainly put more interaction in to not be so easily destroyed.
      gl building your version.

    • @krvys7226
      @krvys7226 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As a person who has a semi competitive version of chulane, I also agree you can do this deck cheaper.
      My version is not cheerios, but takes advantage of she shrieking drake combo mentioned in the video. But even if you can't loop the drake for free, and always have to spend mana, you can still go from an empty mitt to full in a short amount of time. Same by using whitemane lion or kor skyfisher.
      If you can expand the budget a bit, key cards I recommend getting first are intruder alarm, and possibly overburden if it matches your style.
      Overburden is a card that specifically combos with the drake, as it's the only one mana option, but needs chulane out. When the drake enters, float blue mana with a land that enters untapped, then return that land to hand with the overburden trigger. Then drake bounces itself, and use the blue mana to cast drake, drawing and playing the land you bounced earlier with chulane. Rince and repeat. You don't get extra land drops, but you do get unlimited draws. The advantage of overburden though, is that it doubles as a floodgate, limiting how many plays your opponants can make in a turn.
      Once you get a bit more cash, curio and aluren are the only pricey "must haves" in my opinion. While my list does not run curio, it is a very efficient card. Aluren is a double edged sword, as opponants can flash out stuff as well.
      Glimpse of nature is sweet if you can get one, but Beck is cheaper, and does the job just as well, as does guardian project.
      Other pricey cards mentioned are not as much engine starters, like the cards listed above. If you spend money, do it for engines before ramp.

    There is a combo you missed. This is going to take a tiny bit of explaining. Note this works with any CMC 1 creature but I like drake.
    Board state:
    Aetherflux reservior
    Island
    Cloudstone Curio
    Chulane
    Hand:
    Shrieking drake
    Island
    Drake Combo:
    1. Tap the island and cast the drake.
    2. Chulane and Aetherflux Reservior triggers upon casting, and are placed on the stack in an order we choose as it is our turn.
    3. We gain 1 life from Aetherflux Reservior.
    4. We draw a card, and place the Island we have in hand into play.
    5. The Island entering places a Curio (land) trigger on the stack.
    6. The drake enters the battlefield placing its own ETB effect and a Curio (creature) trigger on the stack.
    7. We decline the Curio (creature) trigger as the trigger has a may clause (This is why we can use any creature, but reqires a CMC1 creature in play.).
    8. We resolve the Drake ability and target itself, it is returned to hand.
    9. We resolve the Curio (land) trigger and target the tapped island we used to the cast drake and return it back to our hand.
    10. This is the end of iteration 1 of the combo. We are back were we started.
    11. We run this combo 17 times and gain 153 life. (1+2+3+4+5+6....+17)
    12. We pay 150 life and deal 50 damage to each opponent.
    If again against a life gain deck whip out your phone and add everyones life totals together. Count the number of cards in your deck, Consult the table below and decide who dies lol.
    Number = Iterations
    10 = 55
    20 = 210
    30 = 465
    40 = 820
    50 = 1275

    I'd actually been looking to make a Chulane cEDH list myself, it's been a blast to test out just how quickly it can go off. I really love how strong Chulane is in EDH anyway, though it's very combo-greedy with Food Chain, Heliod Ballista, an infinite loop with Earthcraft and Intruder Alarm, and combos with Wirewood Symbiote, Yisan and Mirror Entity. Alongside the usual Combos of Aluren, bounce creatures, cloudstone curio and the like.

      Ragmesesis I know this is two months old, but this deck barely has any interaction, at least in the form of counterspells, there’s almost nothing. I’m not sure if I’d call it cedh just because it can win turn 2 with a ridiculous hand. I wonder how it’d play out in an 8 group.

      @windiesel2826 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You'd have to have the literal nuts to win on turn 2, I know so because I play a version of Chulane that is more tuned than her list. Also their are other generals far more broken, like Thrasios/Tymnea

    • @JuQmadrid
      @JuQmadrid 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@windiesel2826 Maybe the typical combo off is a bit later, but not much later.
      I'm not big on the competitive scene, but it's hard for me to believe the power of that pair of partners is greater than Chulane's, I may be wrong, I'll have to check some gameplays.
      Thrasios dumps 4 mana to do a weaker version of the Growth Spiral, so you need to get big mana before he can shine. I'd say that's later on the game.
      Tymna in the best case scenario will give you three cards for three lives, Chulane will usually give you more cards each time he untaps.

    • @JB33809
      @JB33809 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JuQmadrid The key is untapping with Chulane- T&T are partners, so they're cheaper commander tax wise, and Thrasios is a draw outlet once you've assembled an infinite mana combo, to get you the rest of the tools to win. Also, Tymnia lets you run black tutors, which is nothing to sneeze at.

    I like the idea of showing players how to power up their decks; however, there is difference between "improved" and "optimized with an unlimited budget to win on turn 1."
    What might be better moving forward is to distinguish how much of an improvement the presented deck design is. Is it budget, mid-range or hog wild? Better yet, you could present all three ways of powering up a deck and let people decide which ones they might like to try out. (yes, that is three times the work, but it could also lead to three times the useful content?)
    You can't please everyone, ref: the internet. But even though I really can't justify the expense of trying this build out, and I wouldn't be able to play this deck more than once without my playgroup giving me a well-deserved wedgie, I did get some good ideas from it.
    My Chulane build is Advisor Tribal. Every time I play it with someone for the first time, I have to explain that I am NOT going to go "infinite." Now I can also say, "it's not like the one on TCC." :D

  • @karnblack

    I really enjoy seeing other builds of commanders that I've built as I can get some ideas for cards to include that I might not have thought of. There are 29 cards that overlap with my Chulane deck and I do have some of the combos in my deck, but I don't have some of the optimal cards in my deck. The elfball subtheme is interesting, but I didn't want to take my build in that direction as I already have an elfball deck. I do have a decent amount of mana dorks though. Thassa's Oracle seems like a nice include as it can be recurred and used again. I may have to pick one of those up for my deck. :)

      eythimis yes this decklist uses more interactive creatures that can slow down other players game plans of decks that are much faster than chulane while taking advantage of the draw power to keep digging. The deck also runs a fair amount of interaction that can be used not only to protect itself but stop other players for winning tappedout.net/mtg-decks/chulane-cia/

    10:28 - animation error: Memnite won't trigger the Cloudstone Curio since it's an Artifact :P
    "Nonartifact" aside, the permanent also needs to match either elf or druid, so something like, say, Birds of Paradise also wouldn't work.
    And likewise on the latter part, at 6:35, Curio is mentioned as a way to get back Thassa's Oracle, but it doesn't look like there are any other merfolk or wizards in the deck.
