ecos889 that’s not really what you want to do though. You want to spend all your mana for max value, if you lose three mana that’s like 2 cards or more with extra lands from his ability.
@@antoniobush4560 It depends on your commander tax really, it is an option among many to make sure during your turn you spend the least mana possible a commander like this I imagine will quite often be targeted by your opponents spells and abilities to get rid as it is a combo piece that can outright win the game and gives too much value. Just picked this pre-con up today at the local Barnes and Noble, was the last Wild Bounty they had. I was totally shocked to see it in stock as not even my locals has been able to get the Wild Bounty pre-con back in stock since it launched.
Roon of the Hidden Realm, Portal of Sanctuary, Curators Ward, and Winds of Abandon might be handy for the Commander build. Two extra bounces, protection for Chulane, and an extra board wipe. Plus if you bounce Chulane with Portal while he's warded you draw two cards and dodge commander tax.
Overburden is great with chulane because you can tap your land for Mana in response to the trigger. With lands like ancient tomb or Temple of forgotten gods you can essentially ritual yourself up to 8 or 10 Mana a turn.
With mulldrifter and chulane you can respond to the ETB and bounce it. So you could evoke and bounce for 6 instead of paying 8 for the hard cast and bounce
With the amount you spend on the brawl precon you can get a commander deck. Not only will you be able to play with more people, the deck never expires, unlike brawl that rotates out

Overburden + Field of the Dead is actually a bit of a non-bo. You get extra dudes from Chulane accelerating your lands but your zombies also trigger Overburden without triggering Chulane. So if you play a creature, you'll draw and drop a land, then you'll bounce a land and get a zombie, then bounce another land from the zombie. Plus your normal land drop for each turn will get you a zombie and make you bounce a land. Basically, you'll never be able to go up in lands unless you're not at Field's threshold. Other players can still go up on lands if they don't cast creatures, so I don't think the combo goes much in your favor unless you're close to winning and a few extra zombo-tokens will do the trick.
Nick McCarron Functional errata? In my MTG!? Lol thanks for letting me know. Was going by the version of the card they showed on screen but you are correct.

Went 6-0 with the Chulane deck during the Arena event, and half the games I didn't even cast him. It just seemed like you could ramp and protect your threats better than the other three decks.
Haha I started using abundance and it is hella amazing especially if you draw even just one more card a turn. The drawback of revealing cards isn't that bad imo, but it depends on if you reveal Craterhoof compared to Opt. Players will want to kill you more if you are running a powerhouse. I'd still use it because having enough interaction and boardstate tends to compensate for that.

Maybe its not the right place to ask, but will there be another episode of "Extra Turns". really liked that kind of gameplay and wonder if the project got cancelled or you guys are just to busy to continue at the moment.
Question. How do you guys categorize counter spells? I usually make two categories of card draw & mana ramp which I want 20 of total, and then interactions & answers which include counter spells, single target removal and board wipes. I can't do 20 of those tho, so I usually settle for around 4 of each giving me 12 answer & interaction cards. Would you consider counter spells to be part of the removal category? Or should that be part of my "main plan / good stuff" category? Am I selling myself short on removal since a counterspell is useless if I draw it and the threat is already on board?
Depends on your meta and specific deck. I have few critical counters, and they are that... for critical moments; also, do they just counter? or does it have some other effect... Base on that and asjust (I mean counter surveil, counter deal damage, counter scry... exile, delve, pay x and such i do not mix with other categories as much)
I include counterspells in a disruption category along with single target removal (and sometimes stuff like tap effects). My goal is 10 disruption, 5 board wipes. Depends on your meta for sure though.
@@englishmuffinpizzas that's sorta similar to my set up. I guess the biggest concern I have is that counter spells don't help against existing threats. So maybe they should only count as half a card if you're including it amongst your disruption effects?
The amount of interaction you run is always going to be meta dependent because your interaction is to deal with what your opponents are doing. So naturally your answers work best when they properly match the threats you need to deal with. I play weekly at my LGS and rarely ever play with the same pod twice. That might be why I really undervalue counterspells and most single target removal in commander. Counterspells are best for dealing with big spell wincons like torment of hailfire or primal surge as they are often the only way to do so. However there are glen elendra and frontline medic and a few others. I prefer single removal that is able to hit a wide range of targets like chaos warp or beast within, or versatile like charms or confluences, or recurring or repeatable like royal assassin or Mangara of Corondor. Board wipes are a great way to answer threats but not always a good way to win the game. Try to find ones that are as asymmetrical as possible don’t run more than you think you really need unless you like 4+ hour games or hate your friends.
if you like peregrine drake and cloud of faeries wouldn't stuff like memnite and ornithopter be really good too? Obviously you get less utility out of your lands but you can play them the same turn you play chulane.
I have very much enjoyed your content on basic templating for Commander. How much of that advice will be relevant in Brawl given the smaller deck size and limited card pool?
Brawl: commander but with the worst part of standard (rotation) adding tons to the cost of the format! “Hey, want to play BRAWL? I have a week before my Admiral Becket Brasss rotates out and I have no deck for it!”
I am going to upgrade all the decks in the way you explained in your video’s, except I’m going to switch 25 of the 160 (4x40) old cards for newer cards. I’m into the cards with black rounded corners on the bottom. So about 5 years old max. Is this a thing people do, or do you think it’s weird and limiting too much potential? I’m a starting mtg player and I want to introduce friends to the game and introduce them to EDH with the mentioned pool restrictions. What do you think about this everything?
A question for the community: their list suggests adding Field of the Dead. The text for that land says "... create a 2/2 black Zombie creature token". Is it legal to create a token that is a color not portrayed in your commander?
Bought all of them from Walmart for 20$, my lgs has the knights deck for 35$ knowing they reprinted them. I understand supporting them but when they are almost doubling the price of msrp just because of availability then they aren’t supporting us.
Anyone concerned that there is little to no info on how these brawl decks are going to be available or the amount they are actually printing? Card Kingdom is showing them out of stock when I just checked... and everywhere has the singles already at obscene preorder prices... some places listing these things higher than Commander 2019 for god sake and already sold out BTW!!! Been asking all three of my LGS in my area about them, and none will commit to having any available, or a release date for them. I pray to god these are released in big box stores where I have an actual shot of getting them completed instead of gutted, price gouged and pieces out by a LGS...
Here's an interaction I've been pondering, if you cast Gilded Drake and you put the etb on the stack can you bounce drake with Chulane and still steal a creature?
Except the brawl decks were sold out within 20 minutes of them becoming available on CK and were at a 200% markup. Yeah no thanks. I'll buy them for $20 at Walmart.
Remember, Wizards removed MSRP. "There's no 200% mark-up if there's no suggested retail price!"- MTG Finance Community Thanks, Wizards.
Yes, apparently they are at a discount of some kind at $159 for the four $20 decks.
@@andyscout There's still an MSRP on the distributor side, Wizards just isn't making it public knowledge, which is even worse.

flash hulk can also be a thing
bellringer also infinite chulane trigger when dorks can tap for 6 mana or more so can draw out ur deck & play all ur lands
Maybe its not the right place to ask, but will there be another episode of "Extra Turns". really liked that kind of gameplay and wonder if the project got cancelled or you guys are just to busy to continue at the moment.
Chulane + Shrieking Drake + Mana Breach: Infinite draw power.
But like Druid Tribal you guys...
Gilt Leaf Archdruid!
The only relevant tribal deck is Bears.
@@bbqseitan7106 how emBEARassing...
@@diegopicchetto5250 good point, I guess something like spell swindle could count as mana ramp.
Great deck tuning episode.
Starts at 2:27
Sooooo happy my store had all 4 decks for $113 CAD taxes included lol and I pre-ordered all 4 tehehehe
I kinda wanna go full degen with chulane and go alluren combo
That sounds great. Find those 3 CMC good creatures.
if you like peregrine drake and cloud of faeries wouldn't stuff like memnite and ornithopter be really good too? Obviously you get less utility out of your lands but you can play them the same turn you play chulane.
I thought his second ability was supposed to be used for reusing adventures
It can be used for both. But it's more valuable to use etb since we don't have Adventures that are like bonkers crazy.
Maybe bouncing back a counter adventure. But still not too great.
I'm excited for the Alela deck.
I have very much enjoyed your content on basic templating for Commander. How much of that advice will be relevant in Brawl given the smaller deck size and limited card pool?
They mentioned it in the video about halfway: deck is 60% of the size, their recommendations are 60% of what they are from their commander template
Great channel, love the podcast, keep it up!
Brawl: commander but with the worst part of standard (rotation) adding tons to the cost of the format!
“Hey, want to play BRAWL? I have a week before my Admiral Becket Brasss rotates out and I have no deck for it!”
I found chulane very good with the elf lizard wizard that can counter spells
One Word: Aluren
Exactly my first thoght, already build aluren chulane for testing and now I don’t have friends anymore.
Very recommendable!
Why I dont find any sol ring in the upgrade
Chulane can protect himself from boardwipe which is rad.
Yes it is legal. Tokens would suck if you couldnt
Hatebears are a go for me and my build!
just got alela and chulane from walmart for $23 CAD each. Fuck msrp and "[supporting your local GS" when they sell em for $60-70+ a pop
Bought all of them from Walmart for 20$, my lgs has the knights deck for 35$ knowing they reprinted them. I understand supporting them but when they are almost doubling the price of msrp just because of availability then they aren’t supporting us.
Forgot to mention whitemane lion. Is better than dreamstalker because you can save chulane
I think chulane would be a decent morph commander.
RoboTactics I mean these commands are what we wanted in C19
Here's an interaction I've been pondering, if you cast Gilded Drake and you put the etb on the stack can you bounce drake with Chulane and still steal a creature?
No, you can't make an exchange unless both things can be exchanged.
