  • This video is my full review of the 2019 Toro Timemaster. I wanted to get several cuts in before I posted an official review of the Toro Timemaster. Today’s cut was the 5th cut. I bagged, I mulched, I side discharged. Cut quality was about the same. I did find that you need real sharp blades on this mower. I do anyways. Self propelled system is the personal pace system, my favorite hands down. It has automatic blade stop, and electronic engine stop with the push of a button. The clean out port works well, and is very easy to use. There are multiple handle settings, including 2 for storage and 2 for mowing. Works great with a stripe kit too!

    Hey RVA, nice review. I watched your other video also, when you first got the mower. I'm planning to replace my 7 year old 22" Craftsman with the TimeMaster and I got a couple of questions. From other reviews on the mower, people complain about the small fuel tank, I have half acre and some guys say they fuel twice for a half acre..! You thoughts on that please, also, a guy was saying that the blades have 4 bolts attachment to the machine and those brake often, have you experience anything like that? Lastly, since I only bag the grass, had the mower ever choke the bag, by that I mean the grass not going into the bag all the way, but staying at the intake opening. My Craftsman is notorious about that and all rear wheel powered mowers have some issues on the subject. From your first video I saw that the opening in the rear of the mower, where the bag attaches, is pretty large. Please let me know. Thanks for the great videos.

      ualdrivr let me start by saying thank you for watching and supporting my channel! As far as the gas goes, I have 10,000 sq ft and cut it all on one tank. I fill before my next cut, so I don’t really know how much farther it will take me. As for bagging, I just cut a neighbors grass over 7 inches tall and bagged with zero clogging issues. Bag holds a lot so it gets very heavy. And finally, the blades. One bolt holds each blade, so only 2 total bolts, and I’ve never seen one shear on any of my toro mowers over the past 25 years. Hope this info help, and subscribe if you haven’t to get notified of future reviews I might do! ✌️

    I always have two of them and rotate them every two years. The 8.75hp was not big enough but Toro has listen to us complain and came out with more hp. 1st thing you should do is take a pair of long needle nose pliers and remove the sponge in the gasoline tank. I mow 36 properties (average 8000 sq ft) every week. I go thru 1 (121-5765) belt per season. I change oil half way thru the season too. I sharpen my blades every Sunday afternoon. "The All American Sharpener" is the best way the consistently sharpen blades. Blades from factory are not sharp ready to cut grass. You need to touch up that edge before mounting. I use high lift blades ONLY which help suck up the grass while cutting. I also use the "Big League Checkmate". It is the best stripe kit available. I bag in the spring for about 4-5 weeks then mulch the rest of the year.
    P.S. I have owed 8 of them so far. Best Toro hands down!

    Are you walking slower than normal to compensate for mulching overgrown grass? If you did walk slower, do you think you'd run out of gas before finishing?

      Most negative replies are from folks using this for commercial purposes, which it is not intended for. Also, this is a 30" mower with 2 blades, which requires more mechanical parts than a simple 21" mower, so there is going to be more maintenance required.

    Great info covering pros/cons, thx for putting it out there for us on YT Land.
    In your conversations with others, did you get any feedback on how the TimeMaster handles/maneuvers on hills or slopes? I am all but secure in a decision to go with a TimeMaster but my front yard slopes drastically towards road and side yard. Want to see how machine will handle.

    I have this mower and love it. I will pass one warning: never take a chance on hitting a rock or other obstruction because it doesn't take much to disrupt the timing/sync belt between the two blades. I run over my water meter all the time but yesterday the blade clipped it somehow and broke the timing/sync belt: $60. Luckily a dealer had a replacement and I could fix it the same day. There are videos out here to show you how to do it BUT you will need an impact wrench to remove the gear wheel on the left side to get the belt on.

    I've owned the Timemaster for 5 years and I agree with you completely on the cut quality. It just isn't there. It leaves stragglers behind even with new or sharpened blades. If I walk at a snail's pace it does a better job, but I shouldn't have to compensate for the poor cut by walking slower than I normally would with any other mower. Overall, I'm pleased with it though.

    • @tomw1719
      @tomw1719 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The older ones don't cut no where near like the newer ones with the 10 ft lbs of torque. I have a 2013 and a new 2018 and there is a world of difference in the cut and speed in which you can cut. I was amazed at how well it mulches week old spring grass and fairly wet also. Side discharge throws it out nice and it really chops the grass into fine pieces. Do NOT try taking too much off when mulching. I mulch at 2 3/4" NO problem.

    I think cut quality is mostly one of those things that only certain people notice or care that much about once you get to a certain basic standard, and nothing wrong with those who are picky about it. There are other things that I'm picky about, but when it comes to mowing my yard, I just want to chop it down easily, quickly and cheaply and have a decent outcome. Toro TM30 does all those things and I could never stand to mow regularly with a 22 ever again. Strap up that side discharge plate and it will cut anything as fast as you care to walk. I sharpen or replace my blades about once every season and a half. I live in the southeast where the grass gets very thick starting mid June. No one is mulching or bagging much down here after that date. Nothing but compliments on my cut yard. Personal Pace is the best!

    Just got around to unboxing mine yesterday (pretty clever packaging by Toro). You’re not the only one to say this about cut quality, still I’m hoping it will be better than my neighbors who all seem to run lawn tractors or zero turns. First mow will likely be next week, I have a salad bar out there in our new place so this lawn reno will take a while (years) :) I keep going back and forth on that washout port, feels like soaking the blades and deck on a regular basis could lead to premature demise of both? Or maybe being cleaner when you’re done it can dry out more thoroughly, vs being packed in with possibly damp cutting buildup? A little bit baffled on that one. Thanks for the vid!

    • @RVALawnLove
      @RVALawnLove  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @RVALawnLove
      @RVALawnLove  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Richard Schott they make silicone sprays. A lot of guys coat their undercarriage. I’d be worried about something leaving a film on the blades, actually causing a buildup of small particles

    • @Rick_Schott
      @Rick_Schott 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m definitely sold on the washout port. My third mow was a narrow weather window and honestly the grass was still wetter than I like. The Timemaster handled it fine but I knew there had to be buildup. Well I was astonished how much came out from the washout. Pro tip: lower the deck down to the lowest setting before you do a washout, it works a lot more efficiently! Looks like you knew this :)

  • @essinem4130
    @essinem4130 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm torn between this and a Super Recycler. Only (and recurring) issue I've really seen on this mower relate to cut quality whether its not razor sharp blades or another reason I've seen is stretched belts which leads to slip and reduced tip speed of the blades. Seems to me the problem is the smaller diameter blades are a bit under-driven. A slightly larger drive pulley could be a solution, as well as a better quality drive belt.
    Higher tip speed may also help with damp grass clippings caking the deck when mulching.
    That striper also looks to work quite well. Thanks for the video/review.
