Ive had my Toro timemaster 3years. Rough and tough. Thick grass wet grass big yards. It's proven to be a good solid mower. Take care of it and use it in the right way and it will hang in there tough for you. Any one starting out. It's a good investment. No need to buy a commercial 30. This timemaster is just as good or even better.

I love my new Timemaster. Bought it a few months ago with electric start for $1199. Now, they are $1499.
I looked at walk behinds from Skag, Ferris and Worldlawn. All nice and $$$.
Timemaster works great for my mostly level .45 acre. My wish list for Toro is I'd just add front casters, a bigger gas tank and 1/4 increments on height adjustments.
    Edit 4/2024
I still love my Timemaster. Main issue has been cheap grass deflector on underside is now breaking apart as is the rear height adjustment is bent. I will have my dealer fix both at the end of the season.
Otherwise it rocks! I do think that 12" rear soft rubber or pneumatic wide wheels and 10" front swivel soft rubber or pneumatic tires would help prevent ruts in lawns. Yes, I do alternate cutting direction each week.

There is a caster kit you can buy for the Timemaster but you will have to modify some hole for the bolts that comes with the kit. One tank should cut up to 15,000 square ft on the new Timemasters depending on the gas you use and terrain. I've heard lawncare complain about the gas tank on the Timemaster, however I ignore those complaints based on the fact the Timemaster is a designed for residential not commercial use. I get that lawncare businesses want to save money but let's be honest you don't like the price of the Turfmaster and your real like of the Timemaster is the personal pace system and it cuts good.

The sponge inside the gas tank is there to reduce or eliminate the possibility of vapor lock, and also to reduce the amount of gas sloshing around in the tank. In my experience, over an extended amount of time, that sponge will break down and clog your fuel filter, if you're using one, of clog up the carburetor.

How's the cutting quality between the two? If you are mulching, do either of them leave a trail of grass? How is the power on hills? I've heard about the timemaster if you are on a steep hill it won't have enough power and you still have to push it.

    • @tjw5747

I have hills too. Will I have to push it going up hills? I'm worried it won't have the power to go up the hills and that it will be too heavy to push. Going sideways isn't an option.

Good video that I missed prior to my Timemaster purchase that arrived last Friday.. Seems nice. A little out of my budget but with only one cut so far I'm liking it and no way I'd buy for the Turfmaster at full price for my needs at this time. All of my large fabricated deck commercial mowers are Kawasaki powered. Huge Kawi fan and I've run a lot of Kohler powered commercial machines that I'd call equals. The 223CC Briggs might be a winner? Bought a generic homeowner grade 22" trim mower in '90-91 with the first gen OHV Quantum Briggs that ran like a beast. Bought a cheesy Troybilt 21" 6.75 Torque in 2011 for my Mom. B&S OHV. 5 blades and merely 2 oil changes since 2011 mowing every 5-6 days in peak season. Still kickin' as I have literally tried to kill it for an upgrade. Front drive, plastic wheels (and bald plastic tires). Even with issues the Toro will be worthy of repair and the TB remains a functional spare. Briggs had some serious failure over the years but the OHV engines have worked very well for me. Fingers crossed. So far happy with the Toro splurge!

Been debating on a commercial Toro of 21" vs the 30" turfmaster. The big things that I want the Turf over the Time, just for my 20K sqft, is the better transmission, larger gas tank, but most of all the HOC. Turfmaster can be raised to 5" and the Time goes to 4.25". I have TTTF and would love that 5" hoc when its super hot and I let my lawn get a little more wild. Keeps the soil cool, saves a lot on water and the grass stays green. Plus now the Timemaster has jumped in price, the Turf is still quite a bit, but the price difference is not as great. Thanks for the comparison.

Here in ireland due to humidity and the soil type and the near constant rain, a steel deck might only last 5 years at most. I have a 1986 countax mower with an aluminium body, a 1990 mountfield with an aluminium body and a 2016 warrior (same deck as a DR sp22 and c&j 22 inch) with an aluminium body. None of them are showing signs of rotting in the decks. My 2009 steel deck mower already has a lot of rust holes, or should i say had. Very helpful. My landscaping operation has used 4 TimeMasters (all from FB marketplace or Craigslist). Cables have snapped, a rare belt has busted, I would DIY most of those issues. I prefer the conveniences that they have on the TimeMasters. The weight of the Turf master, that you mentioned, is a deterrent for me. We lift this up into the back of pickup, or push up steep ramps into pickup. They do get knocked around (annoys the heck out of me how crew treats machines) but I am not sure TurfMaster would be worth it to us. My competition uses them, all the bigger crews use them (alongside Stand On bigger units), until their clients call me bc of tearing up the lawn with heavy big wheeled mowers.
So I feel like 2x the price is not worth it, especially to get a smaller catch bag.

Bought mine Timemaster 30 today $1869 😡 it's got a very tiny surging issue after first pull but doesn't affect mowing when blades are engaged. I've seen many unboxings and non have that issue. Couldn't be the jet on the carburetor perhaps maybe the fresh 93 octane gas. No non ethanol around my area they are sold out and no fuel additives same boat. The gas station attendees assured me that the gas was 10% ethanol and not raised since dunderhead Biden increased the ethanol. I don't know what to do at this point and hoping it's a simple fix..

      @YOUTUBEISRANBYRETARDS 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@tonyslawncare I'm likely going down to the 89 octane, it may be the rich gas in this 100 degree weather that is making it run hotter then it should. I've ordered a case of fuel stabilizer. I did replace my pulleys with some commercial pulleys and ordered another air filter with a pre filter which didn't come with the mower. I will say this, it burns through the gas fairly quickly. I had to fill up twice after 35 min intervals, it could be the gas. I'm hoping the stabilizer and leaner gas will help run it cooler and not use up so much gas. I've heard people say the personal pace and transmission is slow but I don't know if it's because mine is a newer version or what because if I go full speed it literally takes me into a jogging speed. I have to go lightly to maintain a comfortable speed. When I checked the oil before filling it didn't show any oil on the dipstick and the book said 18 to 20 ozs so I put the full 18 ozs that came with the mower only to have to dump 2 ozs out because it overfilled. This leaves me to believe there was at least 2 ozs from factory already inside the engine which most companies do to protect seals and gaskets from drying out over long storage. I'm going to check the engine intake hose to make sure it's in there all the way because that will also cause engine surges. Anyhow thanks for getting back with me.

The Timemaster is a disposable mower when used for commercial use. I own both Turfmaster and Timemaster mowers. Over a period of time the Timemaster will begin to breakdown. It’s just not built to withstand the vigors of everyday use. Parts start breaking. Sure, it’s lighter and much easier to maneuver, but it’s only a short term convenience in the big picture. The Turfmaster has to be used with the same mindset as one would use with a bigger walk behind pistol grip mower. You can’t try and manhandle the Turfmaster like you would with the Timemaster.

Had the Timemaster. Biggest POS I’ve ever owned. Almost Everything on it broke, some things twice. It had no power, could barely climb even the smallest hills. I had to push it mostly. Two transmissions, two carbs, broken switches, pulleys, poor bag catching. Had to buy the baffles which helped but the blades were off and it didn’t cut evenly. One shop couldn’t fix it (gave up) so I went to another. Ended up giving it away. I would buy the Turfmaster in a heartbeat bc it’s commercial so it will climb hills and cut right. I will never buy a homeowner unit ever again. I’ll pay more and get better reliability. Turfmaster is lighter than other commercial units. Ferris and Scag make a good 30” but Scag is 240 lbs. Shops should let customers try out multiple mowers.

Paid $300 for my 30 inch timemaster from a dealer, was used by a local company. The rear height adjuster just wore out over the weekend, It's around $12 so I will not complain. I'm a smaller company, been using 21 inch past few years, and only do this part-time. My goal with the 30 inch was to reduce the amount of time I spend on smaller in town lawns, it's done this job exceptionally well for me. Reduced time on property = more properties done in same time = more money. Overall I say more positives with the timemaster than negatives.
Edit: If all goes well I plan to purchase a 48 inch hydro walk behind next, worst case I'll settle for belt driven unit. Either way, if the Time master makes it though 2019, I will hands down purchase a brand new one. One question Tony.. I have a strange client portfolio. That would be a polite way of saying that they are cheap bastards that don't care about the way their lawns look, they just want it cut every 3 weeks to a month and save some money. Of course that "I don't give a f... about my lawn" approach, has some obvious benefits beside the negatives. I don't have to put too much effort in those lawns. Quality of cut? Give me a break.. Grass clippings pilled up in visible clumps? Who gives the f.... Edging? WTF is the edging.... Well you catch my drift...
The negative sides are those long periods between cutting the lawn. So for that reason I don't mulch, ever. I either bag or discharge and with the Honda's innovative "Versamow" system it allows you to mulch or bag the grass with a push of a single lever. But the beauty of it is that you have a choice of leaving that lever in, for example,1/3 of the bagging position, so you bag 1/3rd of the grass and the rest gets discharged.. Brilliant.
But I digress.. How does the Timemaster tackle this tall, thick and wet grass? And of course I'm not asking how it mulches but how does it bag or discharge this kind of grass? Thank you in advance. Your answer would be much appreciated.

I do around 80 yards a week, 4 years so far, last year I upgraded the engine to old used Kawasaki I had on the 21 inch mower last month I changed the rear tires for the first time, I opened up the transmission to fix it and I didn't spend any money on that except for the oil, runs like new, oh and upgraded to better idler pulleys
