Toro Turfmaster. I have had one I bought in 2017 for my own lawn. Excellent mower. Highly recommend. Only issue I had was ignition coil and adjust valves in 7 years. Can’t ask for better.

Apparently the engineers at Toro did Not test drive their HDX models much. If they had of, they would have noticed immediately that the units are not very manueverable. In fact, the operator has to literally "fight" the mower in curves and turns. Sorry, but that is just the way it is. The transmission "locks in" and it just does not want to let you turn the mower without a struggle.
Say what you want about the first models like the 22200 but they handled wonderfully. Very intuitive and productive without ANY fight. The handle design was easy on the hands versus this current setup which is better on the cables but hard on the hands.
Having owned many Toro commercial mowers, the vast majority have been incredible Machines. And I am sad that the new Turfmaster isn't one of them.
    Enjoyed your entertaining video though!

Why does the timemaster have a 223cc and the turfmaster hdx comes with a 180 or 200cc? Throw a 260cc on that bad boy and you got a deal.

I've had the Toro Time Master 30" for 10 years. I put $350 total in repairs/maintenance in it in all that time. It takes me about 1.5 hours to mow my property (different levels, lots of obstacles). In ten years I had to put it in for service once. I would say I definitely got my money's worth out of it.

My 2017 Timemaster bought new in 2018 lasted 5 years 1,000 hours of commercial use installed heavy duty idler pulleys when i bought new. Just replaced engine with Kohler 224. So easy to start. Also had to replace everything but the trans but did have to replace the plastic trans pulley. The heavy duty idler pulleys are still good. I was cutting a 2 acre field for first couple years with it. In Maryland heat and humid. wet grass. Is it perfect no. but its not junk. Learn to work on things yourself. Just got the G5 Blades and love them. 6 inches of cutting edge per blade VS 4 on stock and they stay sharp for a week.

I have had the SAME issue on my 2016 Toro 30 in TimeMaster. It NEVER starts hot. There was a recall to change the crummy paper fuel filter, but i solved that design flaw, where the fuel feed is only 1/2 in drop from the tank outlet to Briggs 120000 series engine carb. I lashed on my Honda GCV190 Tank and a nice long hose, with a Disc filter and Shutoff valve from Home Depot. The Briggs recall is to install a metal HEAT SHIELD between the cyl head and float bowl, to fix hot restarting. I often do better than that, just get some silver foil faced R-MAX foam insulation, maybe cut 3x5in,, smash a recess to fit behind the float bowl with a small hammer, and shove it in place above the black plastic belt guard cover. surfaces, that worked for a few years, then needed to cool things down with Starting fluid or Gumout to restart hot. I then replaced the carbs several times with the inexpensive ones on Amazon. Worked a little better than Briggs OEM. FINALLY, I did replace the Magneto coil and shutoff switch, but yesterday PROVED THE NEW ONE IS INTERMITTENT. Got an adjustable Spark Tester, set for 10KV gap or larger - NO OUTPUT!!!!!!!!!!! Then I took the old one, sanded the pole pieces and TAPED the entire HV lead with 3M Electrical tape, and split the plastic insulator sleeve from my new Spark Tester, covering the CHAFED section where the muffler heatshield abradedi it. BINGO, it finally started! I then checked the Compression cold, but forgot to open the throttle plate - it read almost 30lbs. We also replaced the crummy HEAD GASKET again, with the 2nd gasket in the $42 Amazon kit, which HAS A NICE METAL fire ring, but is for the 223CC Upgraded engine all the Yard Service guys pay $500 new, to finally fix the underpowered temperamental 190. I found the old gasket BLEW OUT near the Exhaust side, a second time, vapor from all my Starting Fluid was coming out. Another telltale sign was the 4 head bolts were NOT TIGHT. I should have retourqued to the 125 in-lbs spec AGAIN after a month.
Since 70lbs seems to be the spec for these 190CC motors, I WILL be buying a new Piston, Rings, and Wrist pin set, and the 2 different length Rod bolts to raise the crummy 30lbs that is causing stalling issues. And my friend set the VALVE clearances ay 0.006in, AFTER INSTALLING THE NEW thicker gasket. It starts if I put the choke rod in, but soon I fave to remove it, and flip the choke spring 180 degrees over, to the main governor spring post, r it will bog down too rich! When I get anther $500 saved up, I am going to Toro Menders in ATL to buy a replacement 223CC engine, and a new DECK for another $100. Final note, there is a Hi Lift Blade kit, including a new front V shaped shield that bolts in with the front wheels assy - critically IMPORTANT, IT USED TO just fill the chute with grass. ------------- for the past 8 years it will FILL the bag with even wet grass- My thoughts, nothing else is safe on my sloped back yard, and at 150lbs for me, I can easily handle this 135lb mower. Just skip the $200 more Electric Start option, because it will be clunkier to use there. Just my thoughts after 8 years of Time Master troubles. And I replaced many broken cables, worn bearings, and belts Fyi, Hilary in GA

If you had to buy only one Turfmaster HDX, which motor would you buy? I was all set to buy the Kohler version, but my dealer says I should buy the Kawasaki as the motor will last significantly longer and be a quieter and smoother engine. His Toro rep said he sells 8 Kawasaki to 2 Kohler. Other lawn pros on TH-cam seem to like the power of the Kohler. It looks like the Exmark version now has the Kohler, so I am not sure what to do! Thank you!

Why do both turfmaster commercial models have smaller displacement and torque specs than the residential 223cc model? I still don't understand why they did that. I have a the 21200 timemaster and was thinking about getting the turfmaster 22210 (I'm getting a heck of a deal) for some residential yards I mow. The specs show the the timemaster has better gross HP and gross Torque.

Hi Shallwe. It is actually pretty good advice, as long as you have the space and do not need the exercise ;) Although, one downside about the Timecutter is it's 90 day commercial warranty, which is much less than the 1 year commercial warranty that comes with the Turfmaster.
That being said, the above applies only if the Timecutter is used commercially. When used residentially, the Timecutter comes with a 3 year unlimited hour warranty!

I have a late 2013 Timemaster B&S 190CC Intek, electric start. Overall, been a great mower, I can get 2.5 cuts with the same tank of gas. Overall power is pretty good too. The weakest spot I’ve found is the BBC cable will break at the handle due to it’s plastic. A new cable is cheap and easy to replace yourself, but inconvenient when you need to get the grass cut. It’s good to keep a spare, and as far as the internal battery-I’m still using the original going on 7 years now. My worry now is how much life does the sealed tranny have left. Not to mention, I have replaced several belts/parts over the last year for light residential use. Considering an electric Toro now for my small yard, but an extra battery is $250-350 for a mower that sells for $500 when new. So I guess I’m between a rock and a hard place. Just my input on these mowers, but a great info video.

It also is super hard to push when the gas runs out because self propelled feature only works when it’s on … so when it’s out of gas and you have to push it …. It’s super heavy to move … it’s great for the height options and easy to use but it needs a much larger gas tank for sure !!!

Hey Toro should beef up the trans on the residential model. Bigger engine electric start is nothing if trans don’t hold up. Ferris is strictly commercial based. Yes plenty of grass cutters purchase the residential models. Ferris will learn from the guys purchasing their model and make changes quicker.

joseph puchel the Turfmaster is marketed as a commercial mower. Lots of pros use the Timemaster instead because it’s cheaper, but that doesn’t make sense to me. They’ll buy two of them, knowing one is going to go down on them, and then only expect to get a few years out of them. Granted, it’s too early to tell, but I’d wager the Ferris is going to be a lot longer lasting machine and more reliable. One thing that might make me consider the Turfmaster would be front caster wheels.

I have been contemplating these two mowers. I'm going to wind up with the Toro or the Exmark. By the time you add the mulching kit and the bag to the ferris you've added about $1,000 to the price and that bag hangs off the side. Somewhat defeats the purpose of the smaller mower...
Ultimately, they fill a slightly different niche.

Seems obvious that TORO had significant warranty problems by installing the crappiest trans made..this is why I never bought one.I've seen one break on first use, minutes after delivery.
You can't please your customers when your mower's in the shop with 30 others of the same make waiting for backordered parts that are no better than what just broke.
Then- what do you do when you're out of warranty? PUNT ?

Molson12oz, we would like to agree with some of what you said here. Back in 2011, the trans on TORO 30" did have a lot of issues. So much so, that we even stopped carrying them at our dealership. However, after TORO re-engineered and relaunched them, we haven't had or seen any abnormal issues with them.

With that being said, fertilizer and chlorine causes any mower deck to rust prematurely. We do not think you really need to rinse it everyday. Blowing it off is best, since standing water is what rusts decks.

That's really a very subjective question. Depends entirely on the user, the conditions it is being used in, the environment it is being parked in, and a lot more factors. However, if you take care of it properly, always park it in a garage, blow dry it after use, it might just last you longer than 10 years.

I watched this review and bought the Toto 30 inch Timemaster. I need everyone to know that this is the biggest piece of junk I have ever owned and Toro does not stand behind their warranty. I have had belts dislodge, belts stretched so that the mower blades wobble and cut the lawn like a drunken bum. I have had failure of the gas to get into the engine due to the improper design of the the gas cap. There is a fix for that but Toro only does it when your engine fails. All complaints and problems were met with Toro saying these were wear and tear issues and are not covered. Today, after 20 hours of total use white smoke started coming out of the engine. What can I say other than that is you buy a Toro timemaster you will regret it. You have been warned.

Here's some advice right back at you. Never trust a salesman. Trust landscaper opinions. You do know people lie in the world right? Toro mowers are garbage. When i go to Home depot i see them lined up. At first I thought there where used on sale in the tool rental area., They where all broken down with issues being repaired. Not one Honda. It's always Toro. So here's some further proof Toro is crap. Ask any landscaper. Landscapers have and use Bradley, ExMark, Turf Beast and Ferris. If you worked for Exmark you;d be staying there product is the best. Your opinions are for sale. And your for sale too.
