Part of what made Eye of the World hard for me to enjoy was the literal play by play from LotR. It never let me get fully immersed in the world or characters because I was just always comparing it to Tolkien. The world and atmosphere of the Daevabad Trilogy is one of my favorite parts!

A little life has been high on my wishlist, however I never finish the purchase because I am very afraid it might be too much. However it does sounds like an important amazing book to read so I have to get on that

Ok, might need to disagree with you on your point regarding “The Last Wish” and the TV series.
And I’ll preface my argument (possibly why I’m taking this stance) with the point that I LOVE the Netflix show. But I much preferred the TV show’s depiction of Geralt’s adventures and personality to the way it’s done in the books.
And everyone brings up the Law of Surprise as a point where they argue the book does it better than the show, and I want to tear my hair out! WHAT?!? That episode was filled to the brim with humour, political intrigue, emotion and action. The reasons for Gerralt being at the party are done with comedic flair and increase the tension when he is brought to the high table in the show in a much more satisfying manner.
And the explanation of the Law of Surprise was clear and succinct, whereas the book kept expanding with explanation and examples that made you begin to actually question the logic behind the law and why anyone would invoke it. The whole point of it is that it is gamble where the Invoker either doesn’t care much for what is at stake or perhaps has secret knowledge of which the oath taker is unaware...
Which brings me to my final point as to why I prefer the show over the book. In the show, Gerralt - played to perfection by Cavil - invokes the law with abandon; no expectation of what would come of it. When he discovers what he has won, that pause and then his reaction is priceless! It speaks more to his character. In the book, however, it is played more like he KNEW what was going to happen and wanted it to be the case for his own selfish purposes. I got to that point in the book and it seriously soured me to the character because of what he was robbing from this family who have literally had to fight to the death to protect their reason for being together. Then he swoops in and steals it. Nope! No más!
What I would agree, though, is the twist on Beauty and the Beast. That was magnificent, and I believe will be in the second season.
Anyway, long rant over. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!

I still haven't gotten around to watching (or reading) The Witcher, though I did enjoy all the pics of Henry Cavill that came from it

You had a great reading month and with three tomes, that's amazing!!! That's unfortunate that Wilder Girls didn't work for you. I haven't read it yet, but I think I might still give it a try. Thank you for the fully fleshed out and thoughtful reviews.
