How to Make a ZINE in 24 Hours | riso + screenprinting

  • It was a crazy day, making this zine in 24 hours! This is the sketching, illustrating and printing process, with a couple of mini struggles in between. I put together, mostly at home, with riso printing, and I printed the cover with silkscreen / screenprinting at the silkscreen studio (Miniprint Seoul). As hectic as it was, setting a deadline of 24 hours definitely helped me hustle to finish this zine---without getting stuck or being a perfectionist!
    In this process video, I'll show you how to make an illustrated zine on a deadline. If you made a zine, what would it be about?
    The finished zine is available on my shop at: www.kelbelter.c...

      It’s been a while so this video could definitely use an update! For reference, which parts of putting it together are the most interesting to you? Since I’m an illustrator, the brainstorming, drawing and printing process is the most impactful to the final result and the cutting/folding/stapling is fairly straightforward so I didn’t linger as long on those parts. But if a lot of people are interested in it, then I’m happy to film more about the assembly process in the future :-)

      Hi! Just wanted to update you because I recently found one of these zine copies (it's from a few years ago, so I didn't have many left), and I thought you might be happy to know that I actually did write in the zine that the story is from the Kuba of Central Africa. On the finished zine page, 'Africa' has a star (*) next to it, and there are more specifics that credit the Kuba on that page. I was happy to find that it was there after all ^^

      Thank you! I made all of my pages A4 300 dpi (21x29.7 cm), but when I printed them, they were all A6. I just used A4 in case I changed my mind later or wanted to use the illustrations for something else!

    Didn't understand the stapler process with eraser

    • @KelBelter
      @KelBelter  ปีที่แล้ว

      hi! so basically the eraser helps you to staple without a long arm stapler. here is an example: www.wikihow.com/Staple-a-Booklet you can also use cardboard or another soft material. then you bend the arms of the staple inwards :-)

    I just found your channel while I looked for some inspo for my next video, what a wonderful video and edit!! You got me inspired to make riso one day in my art studio! I am currently obsessed with spray paint, I guess riso will have to wait ahahaha

      Ahh that's awesome! I really do hope you try it one day. I just got blue and fluorescent pink ink drums in sooooo I can't wait to print some new zines/prints with some bright neon colors! Spray paint sounds so fun though--something I've never tried before but always looks like so much fun. I have some friends in Seoul who are street artists and they make it look so effortless

      @@KelBelter Thanks for the info. On a more important note, I recently stumbled upon your channel and instantly became a huge fan. Not only is your work fun and inspiring, but your video style and personality are really enjoyable to watch too. I've been binging all your videos and am really looking forward to future ones. Keep up the awesome work!
      To make a suggestion: It would have been fun to see an updated "updating my portfolio" type video as I see you're using Cargo now. Cargo is really cool, but I find it sort of headache-inducing. It would have been interesting and informative to see how you went about creating your site on that platform.

      @@KelBelter That's exciting to hear! To the extent in which it's possible, I would really appreciate seeing as much of the nitty gritty formatting of the page through cargo as you think would be appropriate for the video (if you do end up making it). Thanks again for your hard work with making these videos and art for our enjoyment. 🙇🏼‍♂
