    Brilliant video thank you :) I was just about to ask what the point of things like riso and screen printing are when you can use digital prints, and then I saw your link in the description :D thank you

      No point, offset is way cheaper and faster for large batches. At this point only artists use Riso it's hard to fake the analog effects digitally

    1) Use the Riso FW5130 series, which is full color. Ink is very similar (I wouldn't be surprised of it's the same ink). It also does not use a master so no reason to refill masters or empty them.
    2) Use at least once a day (twice a week minimum) as it is ink based and will clog up the holes and you'll need to call a tech to unclog them.
    3) Try leaving the printed pages to dry before running it through the machine again to avoid roller Mark's in the second pass. There is no heating element (unlike copiers) so you have to let it air dry.
    4) It is a high volume machine so if you're going to run fewer than 30 prints, you might as well use a copier as it is cheaper.
    5) We're basically talking about a glorified ink jet printer so take similar cautions as you would an ink jet.
    6) Risos are built around the ink and the guy who invented it said as much
    Therefore inks are very expensives.

    • @kitetsustation
      @kitetsustation  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for this very thoughtful comment! I will look into that machine, since I haven't heard of it before. I do always airdry for at least a half a day, a whole day if my deadlines permit me. :-) But the ink still smudges when there's heavy coverage, and sometimes artists just spray fixative on the prints tbh. It's true that the riso becomes more cost effective as volume goes up, for sure!!! Thank you again for the comment!!

    I have been a Tech for Riso Machine's for 20 yrs and I can say if you understand how a Riso works , we are far superior to all technology to date!

    • @KGSnow2
      @KGSnow2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm interested in your comment. I was just sitting here wondering how in the world this process could possibly compete with either inkjet or laser, both of which register perfectly and dry completely on a wide variety of papers, including coated grades. Olivia says in the video that she can only use uncoated paper, the ink never really dries, her customers some times get ink on their hands from her finished product, she has trouble with tracking marks, and registration is not guaranteed. How is that "far superior"? (Full disclosure - I am retired from nearly 40 years in the printing industry, both offset lithography and letterpress.) This is not meant as any kind of negative comment; I just don't understand.
