23 years....how time flies. IX is easily my favorite and most replayed FF title. One of the best story, music and settings. There will probably never be another FF like this. Well done, Square.
IX is king. Wasn't my first FF game but it will always be my favorite. Reading and watching programs about how much love and care was put into IX really drives home just how much it sets apart from the rest of the franchise.
Agreed, even the series creator and several of the top devs said it's the truest form of what they wanted from a Final Fantasy and is their favourite to.
It is by far the one FF game that holds a special place in my heart as it’s the very first Final Fantasy game I’ve ever played. I’ll always love it wholeheartedly.
I think one of my favorite aspects of this game is how the narrative splits the party up at various times and forces you to use all of your party members in battle. It made each character feel integral to the story and not just that charter you acquire and never use.
I'm not exaggerating when I say that Final Fantasy IX is not only my favorite FF game, but my all time favorite video game. Story, characters, music, gameplay, side quests and the emotional impact that this game have just makes this a masterpiece in my eyes
I didn't grow up with Final Fantasy, I've only just gotten into the games over the past fifteen or so years, playing them off and on whenever I'm in the mood for a big RPG to completely immerse myself in. I enjoyed all of the ones that I played, but never really felt the intense emotions other people stir up when they talk about their favorite Final Fantasy until I finished IX this past year. I'm still completely awestruck by it. So calling it my favorite is a bit of an understatement!
I've always believed that Steiner and Beatrix are based on Benedict and Beatrice from Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. They fit the character's perfectly, especially during the love letter segment
Final Fantasy 9 will always have a special place in my heart. I really hope the rumors of a FF9 remake are true. I would be so damn happy if they made it a reality.
@@dannywright1317 I love FF7R. Beat the game 3 times already. I'm also replaying FF9 for the 4th time right now. Personally, I like where they're going with the game I can understand if you don't like FF7R though.
@Revolveré it was part Nividia leaks, everything on the leak was true.they probably waiting on the ff9 animted show closer to release. Plus,ff16 and rebirth
I am exposed to this game when I was a teenager but yeah I think back then I am just too young to fully understand the story? Now that I am older I can see the game's story from a better POV and yeah it was magnificent story. This story is definitely not for children consumption, it's a beautiful story but kind of heavy at the same time. Sad though modern game this days rarely have a good story like FF9 or 7.
Back in 2017, I had the chance to speak a little with Nobuo Uematsu at the Distant World event. I brought FFIX with me, which is my favourite episode. When everybody had brought FFVII or FFVIII for the signing session, he was so pleased that somebody brought FFIX because it seems it was his favourite episode to work on. :D Now the game sits on my shelf, with the front signed by Amano, and the back by Uematsu. So many memories, even after 23 years.
Well many people said/felt that "Melodies of Life" is his magnum opus, I think he might felt the same that's why maybe it's his favourite episode. I don't know if he consider "Melodies of Life" is his magnum opus, but that song is really beautiful.
With me currently scripting this entire game for our next Echo-S voice mod, I can certainly feel the NPC portion of this video. They actually have crazy amounts of details about their life's, characters and what they're doing. It's been interesting because I never noticed before during a regular playthrough.
FFIX has one of the most alive feeling worlds in FF history. All those NPCs with their unique little stories make it feel like life goes on outside of the main story as well. Seeing how people in Lindblum and Alexandria are affected by their cities being destroyed and then moving on with their lives as the towns get reconstructed is something I don't think exists in any other title in the series.
I replayed this game late last year. It's a game that doesn't need nostalgia to be remembered as a good game. It's perfect as is and everyone should at least play it once if they ever want to get into video games.
I remember thinking as a kid: 7 was a scifi-horror game in a fantasy setting, 8 was the "realistic" near future high school game, and 9 was a beautiful steam punk theme to FF's true roots in fantasy. I'd be a liar if I didn't admit that 9 was my number 2 to my 7. After that, spot number 3 is 6. And man 9 would fuel me to play Tactics and easily vice versa
Still by miles my favourite game of all time, it was perfection and even now i listen to the soundtrack whenever I'm feeling down. That game was my entire world.
The Final Fantasy series as a whole has definitely had an impact on me personally. Ever since the first one came out when I was eight years old. While FF9 is definitely one of my favorites, I can't ignore the ones before it, or even after for that matter because as a fan of the series since the beginning, each one holds a special place for me.
I always found the letter scene with Steiner and Beatrix in Alexandria to be very Shakespearean - it really has the feel of one of his comedies with all the misundersandings
Fact: Ragtime Mouse's quizzes in Final Fantasy IX (2000) is a quiz game show like Grunty's Furnace Fun in Banjo-Kazooie (1998), Keaton's Quiz when Young Link wears a Keaton Mask in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (2000), Tower of Tragedy in Banjo-Tooie (2000), Chuck Quizmo's quizzes and the 64th Trivia Quiz-Off in Paper Mario (2001) and TEC'S quizzes after Chapter 4, 65th Super Fun Quirk Quiz and 66th Annual Quirk Quiz in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (2004).
FFIX is a masterpiece and is my most played FF to date. FFIX was one of Nobuo Uematsu's favorite soundtracks to make iirc. Every aspect of this title was given much care and attention, and it stood the test of time imo.
This is my favorite FF game and an absolute masterpiece. Freya and Beatrix are my #1 and #2 favorite FF characters respectively with Vivi as my #5 favorite but second favorite mage.
FF9 is my favourite Final Fantasy after FF7. There's just something special about it, the setting, the story, the characters, the soundtrack which to me is the best soundtrack of all Final Fantasies. I hope they do a proper Remake of FF9.
FF9 is one of, if not, the best game ever made. I have beaten this masterpiece over 40 times in the last 20 years and i STILL tear up at the ending when Zidane and Garnet hug.. even watching it through this video made me tear up. No other game has ever done that.
One of the first games I ever owned and played was the original on NES and from that point on I was hooked up until around 10 when the series started to move away from staples of the series starting with the open world map. That being said IX was by far my favorite of the series to that point. It perfected the original identity of the series i fell in love so long ago, I would love to see an exact recreation of IX with modern graphics but please don't change anything about it otherwise.
IX is perfect, it’s what Final Fantasy should be. The main story, the personal storylines, the music, the overarching theme, the twist. Honestly, I could go on for hours. 10/10. Gave me depression.
First final fantasy I ever completed as a child, my brother used to work away from home and hated me going in to his room to whilst he was away so he put a lock on the door but didn’t know I knew he hid the key on the top of the door frame because I was too short to get at it, used to grab the step ladder to get at it, raid his top draw and spend hours and hours playing this game barely able to comprehend the words on the screen. Good times!
Love 9 and remembering as a kid how I was hoping that some of the npcs like Blank or Jack, or Beatrice would join the party permanently since the cast is so small relative to the FFs that came previously, especially with how much some of them stand out in compared to the npcs in 7 and 8.
I kind of wonder now knowing the issue with thunder slash for Steiner, is if it isn't a bug at all. Possibly there might be a lore reason and it being that Steiner was always slightly behind Beatrix in skill and actually looked up to her but could never match to her standards.
Hell yeah, I know what I’ll be watching later! Thanks for all the videos guys, they’re great! Lol I listen/watch these while I’m brushing and flossing my teeth at night, it’s part of my routine, thank you. 😊
As a fan of rpgs who had yet to play a single Final Fantasy game, I decided to play through all the PS1 FFs. And while FF7 and FF8 didn't really leave the same impression on me as they seem they have done for gamers back in the 90s, I can safely say that FF9 met my expectations after I finishing it just a few days ago. During a point in my life where I'm struggling to find my purpose, FFIX comforted me with its colorful cast, inspirational music, and mature themes.
Did you do any of the ones before FF7? There's definitely an interesting trend of those who played 7 or 8 first have that as their favourite, but tend to dislike the other. Not, necessarily, hate. But, more... It just didn't work for them. 9 is much more of a throwback to the much older games. The themes, scale, style. Might be worth trying a few of the older ones. If you can find the time, and feel so inclined.
@@nicholasharris4306 I actually wanted to play the older games for a while, but I was still waiting for the pixel remasters to come out on consoles. I’ll make sure to check them out when I can, but for now I probably need a break from Final Fantasy. Playing 3 FFs back to back in the span of 4 months probably wasn’t the best idea, but I’m still glad I did it.
Hearing that they made many NPCs explains why the world feels more like an actual living breathing place. Maybe that's why I felt more invested in the world.
You say "a fast-paced battle system", but 9 has the slowest combat of the main series' games by a noticeable margin: Long transitions, long animations, long pauses between every action... even the slowest standard battle song of the series.
On a hunt to play and 100% all Final Fantasy games, I just recently played 9 for the first time. I got an opportunity to play it for the first time because of all these re-releases. I didn't play it when I was 5 years old, but I did now.
Here's a trivia fact: Thanks to my poor quality TV back in the day, I used to think that Freya's nose was her chin and the rest of her head was tucked int oher hat. Somehow.

You should play 6 if you haven’t yet. It’s easily in the top 3.
6 and Tactics are the other big standouts you should make sure to play.
I'm backing up the other comments that say to play 6. It was the first time when Square really understood characters and story on a top tier level.

So many memories. Zidane taught me how to be a positive and good person. To quote him " you don't need a reason to help people".
I agree. Helping others is good. Except Chaos, f him.
He did also grab Dagger's arse without permission and was really flippin creepy with his flirting throughout lol. To quote him "Ohh soft"
the last scene where Zidane reveals himself to Garnet never fails to make me tear up. Such good memories
