    I really like the four Huge Materia bit personally. The whole idea of Gaia once being a traditional FF high fantasy pseudo-medieval setting that went through this transformative process of industrialization that built all this stifling modern/SF infrastructure over top of it is what gives FF7 a lot of its unique charm.

      Which would be very funny considering there are references that FFX and FFVII share the same world. So it wouldn't be just these two but at least tree connected gamea

      actually you can say the end of ff7 where i think it was also confirmed that all people died, there was a reset and the world will eventually get new people again and they will live in the middle ages again until they develop as far as in ff7,8.
      10 has also taken this up.
      Maybe you could make the connection between the FF games again in this way ^^
      Because of the 4 crystals, the world could always change, but everything takes place on gaia.

      I have said for a while now that I'd like to see another non-numbered entry happen, kind of like Stranger of Paradise, where it is set throughout the time of the Cetra, only they don't actually mention it (because duh, spoiler alert), and the world is starting to decay and be diseased. As the game progresses, you eventually learn the cause of it. The planet is injured a calamity from the sky, and the final boss is Jenova, with the protagonists sealing her away in the Northern Cave, where she would remain until Shrina dug her up.

      I'm confused. Play the original Final Fantasy on NES. There are four crystals (called orbs in the original North American translation), but they aren't these four colors. All four are initially grey and then, when restored, light blue.
      If the video creator(s) is referring to the Playstation remake of the first game, then those games (and thus the colors of the crystals) came *after* _Final Fantasy VII._ You gotta go back to the original versions, folks. And OP's parallels to the locations are pretty shaky, too.
      Or am I totally missing something? If I'm correct, then the huge materia colors are not a reference to the first game.

    I imagine the Fort Condor huge materia is the fire crystal because of its affiliation with Phoenix, a fire summon. The Corel huge materia would be left to be the earth crystal, which fits a bit better with the mining/mountain thing.

    Not necessarily an Easter egg, as the connected game came later than FF7, but the news channel seen in FF7 is called SIN (something like Shinra Incorporated News, I guess). Obviously, the entity in FF10 shares this name. The name SIN would also be later used for Bahamut SIN in Advent Children, although, again, like 10's SIN sharing a name with 7's news channel. This is likely a coincidence, as its name in Japanese is Shin, referring to the fighter plane J7W1 Shinden, and means shake/tremor. The English name SIN supposedly ties into the theme of sins and atonement present throughout the film.

    Also, would you guys ever consider doing a "complete history and retrospective" on some of the other games, like VIII, or IX? I know VIII was such a divisive game but it's one of my favorites and knowing some of the details behind it's development would be interesting, and IX to showcase the development style of Hiroyuke Ito.

    Watching your videos helps me find out how many references 14 continues to make to the series. Mt. Gulg and Barnabas, among them. Also the fact that the original concept of Lemures was a beautiful woman and it is now a reference to Reapers.
    Just a lot of interesting things to think about.

    The opening of this makes me thnk a good subject for a video would be "what makes a Final Fantasy game a Final Fantasy game?" Up until 9 or 10 i'd say this isn't too hard to define but now they slap the label anything from MMOs to Action Games, the later games are far more about innovating new battle systems than evolving the old and it's no longer about having these big parties of characters, more just a handfull and you're lucky to controll more than 1 during battle so I don't really know what FF is anymore beyond "well there's Moogles & Chocobos in it", lol.

    The Huge Materia reference was ridiculously stretched. The crystals having those four colours wasn't yet a thing in FF1; they were still four white orbs, and in the games between they'd been universally blue crystals.
    They weren't coloured crystals until the WSC remake, which came out a few years after FF7.

    Summons have really taken a back seat in modern final fantasy games. The need for more action in the combat means having the ability to use a summon whenever you want like in past games, doesnt really make any sense. Now they only appear here and there, they are always very limited. how many titles now have they been only usable "in times of great need".

    Side note: the Unknowns in the Gelnika don’t drop sources, you are required to morph them. Unknown 1: power source, Unknown 2: guard source, and Unknown 3: magic source.
    As for dropping items, I know the Unknown 1&2 drop Light and Lunar Curtains respectively, unsure about the Unknown 3’s drop item because I morphed every single one I encountered over 7,430 battles to get 255 stats on everyone.

    the unknown enemies in ff5 were NOT originally called that... the names were just blank. it's only a direct reference in the English translation. (actually, since ff5 was not translated into English until after ff7, that means that the "unknown" enemies in that are likely a reference TO ff7)

    So for the huge materia, does that make the game connected to number 1? If so, does that also mean that 1, X and VII are connected altogether ?

    • @nathanh6439
      @nathanh6439 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, different members of the SE team have made mention numerous times that, without being too specific as to how, all of the FF worlds are connected. Some of them are more obvious like taking place in different ages of the same world like with Ivalice. Some seem more along the lines of different worlds in the same universe and others seem to be the same world in neighboring universes and/or in different eras. Something worth noting, Gilgamesh has appeared in several FF games and is said to be able to travel between worlds.
      Also, I don't know if you are familiar with "Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia", but it's a mobile game that incorporates characters from all of the FF games. Some of the story lines in that game touch on the connections between the worlds, again, without being too specific.

    • @Loso_oso
      @Loso_oso 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nathanh6439 reason why I ask is because I know that 7 and X is linked due to shinra from X creating stuff for shinra in 7. Essentially being a founding father lol. With the crystal connection I thought it meant it was legit connected like in that case

    • @nathanh6439
      @nathanh6439 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Loso_oso I do seem to recall Shinra tying Spira (FF10) and Gaia (FF7) together, similar to Gilgamesh's appearances in other games. Interestingly, Gaia is also the name of the world in FF9 with its mirror world of Terra. I also seem to recall there was some connection between Spira and the unnamed world of FF8, but not what it was at the moment. But, back on topic. If the huge materia of FF7 are the four crystals from FF1 and the huge materia are the result of mako energy being condensing in reactors, that would imply that FF1 takes place after FF7. Which would be problematic as the natural magic users had ended with Aerith. Then again, people may develop the use of materia-free magic again later on if the Lifestream wills it. Which does not seem to appear if FF1. And that would also indicate that there would have to be another global catastrophic event with an extended period of time to regress from the industrialized FF7 to a more medieval FF1. Hmm, I am probably over thinking this.

    • @Loso_oso
      @Loso_oso 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nathanh6439 well shinra from ff10 was the founding father for shinra electric in ff7. Apparently X took place YEARS YEARS YEARS before 7. If i recall correctly, shinra actually wanted to use the energy of the world for power. Which could mean that sometime after 10, crazy shit hits the fan, ruins the world hence making 1 a thing (pushing/reaching) and then at the end, it’s 7?

    • @CaliMisfit
      @CaliMisfit 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nathanh6439 no you’re not overthinking it at all my friend. I’m trying to connect Vincent’s Chaos to Garlands Chaos in my head. FF14 also touches a little on how multiple FF worlds are connected. Anima from FFX is a natural concept that can be created in ANY FF game if certain conditions are met. FF7 Lifestream + FF10s Farplane + damn near every other FF afterlife are the same. FF14 proved the life stream is a natural thing the planet just has. And the void is canon across FFs, the void is just a place the soul goes if rejected to that Gods heaven or Hell. I’ve also been overthinking a lot of shit too man. Final Fantasy does that to you 😂

    Cait Sith's appearance is a nod to Puss n' Boots. Kaneko did the same allusion with megaten's version of Cait Sith.

      No it is not. It is a reference to Cait Sith of Irish folklore.

      @@Aerotides Cait Sith was very possibly an inspiration behind Puss in Boots.

      Yeah but it's not always easy to pronounce names in a language that isn't your own. He means no disrespect. I personally wouldn't be insulted if a Japanese person had trouble pronouncing my name.

    Bah-he-myth is how it's pronounced, not ba-he-moth. I wouldn't be so anal about the pronunciation, but hearing tee-dis instead of tye-dis is still bothering me. This too? It's like nails on a chalk board when I hear my favorite protagonist in the best game of the FF series being pronounced wrong. In English it's tye-dis Square. Oy.
