I was also thinking the Spirit had an advantage with escape pod bunk beds (I wonder how many people would hit the "eject" button instead of the "alarm off" button?), but again, looks like the Zeus has it all!
Great review bro. Not all exploration ships have something that pops out like a big radar array, etc. BUT... unlike it's other variants (and some other exploration ships) the ES has the bigger radar than it's counter parts. 315p same, Rambler same, Mustang Beta same and hell Corsair same. 3 distinct attributes (baseline) for exploration ships are longer range, better radar and better living accommodations.
@@thenecrolept indeed but those are special ships. Terrapin with a dedicated scanning array and Polaris with a giant command center. But the ships I mentioned don't really have much going on for them on the surface.
I'd go for the CL but based in my recent experience in PTU, filling up all those 128 SCUs can be problematic. I know they're totally different beasts but I think I'll go back to my dear RAFT.
I figure that since the Ursa was designed for the Connie, CIG didn’t want the Zeus to carry the same. If you want to try small bunk/escape pods, check out the Retaliator. I own a Corsair, so went for the MR as I didn’t own a QD ship/bounty hunter ship.. hmm, if CIG made more ships nameable.. I reserve Razor Crest for the MR..
I know people are drooling about the paper stats on the CL, but I think the other two are going to be better for their roles. I've seen how fiddly loading the CL 100% seems to be in a few other videos, so just having an explorer or patrol ship with actual cargo will be quite useful in comparison. The ES and MR are the ones I'm most interested in, personally.
Cargo isn’t my thing. Even if it was just the window and bench, I’d take it over the CL. I don’t care about stats. I want to enjoy walking and interacting with my ship!
Thanks EL! Hope you feel better soon. I'm looking forward to getting my new Zues ES. I'm still going to keep my C1 as they have stated all along that it will be more nimble...It will be my small cargo. The ES will be long distance travel, exploring in Pyro possibly...bunkers now and again. It can carry the smaller ground vehicles as well. Too bad they didn't make the cargo doors wider... Who knows what will come out next. It might get melted eventually like many of my others. 🙂
I am now torn between a Zeus CL or a Zeus ES for daily driver; in one hand, the little bit extra maneuverability and 1 extra shield for the ES is nice, but the extra big cargo hold for the Zeus CL is also pretty nice.
The extra shield, s3 radar and s3 fuel tank have me leaning toward the ES over the CL. A maxed out cargo grid in the CL is too tight of a squeeze for me. My only complaint is that the kitchen area looks so spartan that it almost comes across as still being partially still in whitebox. Gorgeous ship.
The ES does have a size 3 radar (not physical used yet) as opposed to the size 2 of the other versions. That and the extra shield are the main differentiators for the “exploration” role. I think it also has more quantum fuel, but I’m not sure.
Thinking of getting this one between the 2. With pyro coming id rather have more fuel than cargo. I already have cargo ships. To be fair I also already have exploration ships but none this small.
I think that when the new radars come in, it will have more of its professional usage defined. As it stands, its default components for QT drive and fuel tank already differentiate it into a more "exploration" type, focusing on longer travel... which, with the fuel changes, makes it certainly a longer range craft.
The Zeus ships are very pretty and a great sign the new team that worked on it has some pretty slick skills. Hope they give the old ships some love eventually.
I'm pretty sure that the ES will have better scanners and quantum tech. Just like how other ship components have different options with different stats, I'm sure there will be variants like defence scanners or geologic survey scanners or wreckage scanners etc and different levels for each type or such.
I went with the Clipper version, excited to get a chance to fly her. If they do come out with a passenger version (rumor) I may CCU my Spirit E1 to that also.
Great video buddy. I really enjoy your reviews regardless of wether you exceed 10 minutes 🤣. Subd & liked. I already picked up the CL and was waiting for a reviews on the ES before making my mind as to wether I would get it but I'll wait for the MK2. Who else is hoping for the MK2 MR release for IAE? Wouldn't that be nice.
As for exploration value, what is expected would be living space (as given), efficient fuel (H2 and QT) use, excpetional scanners and ability to be self sufficient (food prep/repair capabilities/ground vehicle transport). These would be my basic expectations.
Great Review! I do admit the Zeus has me disappointed the more I look at it, even though I really appreciate how smart and compact the design is as there are allot of ships purely made for the look but the Zeus is certainly how can we cram things into a ship as much as possible! In doing so though it kind of fails on paper and in practice, while not a badly designed ship the ES as you mentioned does not stand out in any way for an 'explorer'. Making it a nice daily driver for a single or 2 pilots, decently armed and defended but nothing really stands out and its decently fast and not too sluggish. But your going to have to suck it in if you have crew also using the main hall way giving it a very freelancer feel but the side rooms are nice. For the CL I don't like what they did with the cargo area, it seems pretty difficult to load and is not very flexible, to get every bit CRAMMED into the ship its wall to ceiling with smaller boxes to make it look great on paper but the Freelancer max and event the corsair is much easier to load with a hand tractor beam then trying to tetris in every square inch. I think they went a bit too far trying to make the ship look a bit better on paper at the expense of making the small space more of an encombance. You can say what you want about the C1 spirit but you can slide in your two large boxes or combinations there of pretty darn quick. Its no longer just the 'amount' of cargo it's also the flexibility of the cargo and the Zeus gives up some of that to get bigger numbers.
I want it to have retractable skylights. And floodlamps beside all the entrances, as well as fold away headlights. Also hope they have a plan for the airlock, so it doesn't decompress the ship when atmospherics are implemented.
I hope they add some food/water machines or something to exploration ships. Otherwise, I assume this has a significantly bigger fuel tank than the cargo variant?
I have heard the C1 is faster, also the C1 is easier to load cargo. However I do like how she looks. I have the C1 and love it but I am drawn to the zeus
This ship is so close to be perfect but it's not. I don't understand why they keep medium exploration ships from carrying an Ursa...also, that kitchen area is atrocious.
