The ship actually does have 6 vtol thrusters, I couldn’t get them to turn on or I was just blind. Active with ‘K’! Thanks for watching! Yall are awesome!
Same, couldn't get a G difference with them on or off either. You can see the difference in the Zeus for example (which begs the question, why would you even have VTOLs off if they have no disadvantage)
@@AirSKWolf I THINK - emphasis on "think" - VTOLS will eventually increase heat buildup so running them constantly will have potentially bad results. Ships without VTOL won't be able to hover long at all, but ships with VTOL won't be able to just float like ships currently can. I could be totally wrong there, but I think I've heard the flight team talking about those changes coming eventually.
You are a mad man getting this video done after a 7 hour stream! Thanks so much for the e in-depth review!! Having a couple minutes to fly it yesterday, as you said, I noticed I really loved how expansive the flight deck was, the mess hall and the habitation area. Everything was done very well. The engineering was also very cool. Can’t wait for that gameplay. I agree with you, we’ll probably see that TAC variant around invictus. I can’t wait to fly it properly today!!
@@tonyjoel7910 I think so! It all depends on your fleet. You lose some significant firepower but it’s going to be a much better hauler in my opinion. Depends on your fleet goals!
You know from a chefs perspective, what is called the economy of movement (basically just how well the kitchen flows) is actually good in that little kitchen. Great small details!
The Starlancer has become my new main ship after realizing you could fit a Nursa AND Ursa in it at the same time making her a versatile mission ship with a crew.
The StarMAX might be slow on paper... but for it's size, it's surprisingly maneuverable!! It feels great considering how big and heavy it is. It handles better than the 400i I melted it for. I don't mind the letterbox view from the cockpit, but I hate that from the co-pilot seat, your character hands hide the MFDs as well as the radar being horrible to see from either seat. I LOVE crew habs, yes they are massive, but it feels spacious, like you don't have to squeeze past your crew mates just to get around, it feels great inside. I think the ship has GREAT utility and oozes personality, I'm really happy I picked one up.
I also discovered that from the Turret Seats in the main cockpit, there's a button on the desk that allows you to close the blast shields over the side windows which is a nice little, gimmicky touch, like the little shutters on the Drake Cutter😆
I bought one and I love it! The Serenity references circulating during the lead-up to this were spot on. I may upgrade to the TAC later, but I'm happy to call this ship one of my favourites!
I grabbed the MAX as a placeholder to upgrade to the BLD when that gets released - but i fell in love. Im still getting the BLD - but want to keep the MAX
I've really fell in love with my Freelancer and MISC's ship designs in general, they always seem like really nice ships for solo players or small groups while being tough enough to hold their own in a fight with more combat focused ships. The Turrets on their ships have wide views and their interiors are just really nice.
This is my new daily driver (for me). Nothing is ever perfect and will ever be, but this is 80% there and quite frankly that's enough for me. Loving the refresh that is breathing new life into Misc. This deserves this and so do we. Well done Misc Team! You've won me over with this new lineup. Ps- I hope the Misc Team goes back and gives the love and new branding to the freelancers and legacy ships!
I was thinking that I would stay with the Freelancer Max but got CCU to the Starlancer. Will wait until I get to try this out myself but am seriously considering making the switch. What happens when it loses Freelancer level maneuvering? Will it still be good? What about its size in finding landing space? I guess the vehicle bay would make that less of an issue as you can land further away and drive the rest of the way.
Great overview! I'm so excited about this one. I have to say, you have hands down the best intro music… the vibes! One interesting thing I found today when I went through it was that in the turret seats, there’s a button to enable a blast shield for the window. It’s such a small feature, but a wonderful level of detail. o7
Nice vid and review! Great job! I can't wait to fly this beauty in the verse. This is going to be a great daily ship for me and many others I'm sure of.
I've been deciding for a while whether or not to get this ship but videos like these have convinced me that it is a good purchase. I like cargo hauling so this ship seems perfect
Thinking of doing the same. MSR likely won't get any love (Gold Pass re-work) for quite some time. And not a big fan of the speed changes they made to it.
Im so stoked for this one! It's the first ship I've bought where i don't feel a need for paint at all. That silver is just 👌 i melted my corsair for it. The firepower is a little less but I find in my typical gameplay loops I tend to appreciate increased space over dps
I intend to get one, I just can't decide which ship to CCU to it from- the Zeus CL or the RAFT. Currently I'm leaning towards CCUing the Zeus as I've filled it up all the way just once, and I absolutely hated it. Easy cargo accessibility is important.
I got to use my starlancer MAX yesterday and I absolutely love the ship it's perfect for what we need. The price point is a steal for what you get for it. I'm really waiting for the TAC to hit I still have it pledged Right now.
Just a note for those watching this, not all 4 of the hab units are completely mirrored. Two are larger with more shelf space. Anyways great review! Loving my Starmax!
Thanks for the very detailed review! i bought it at CitizenCon. my very first ship was the freelancer. i then upgraded it to the freelancer max. which i still have and love today. the starlancer max is probably a credit to misc. i wanted to use it as a cozy explorer. i'll still use my taurus though, if the tac is really good i'll melt down my aquila for it. and i'd also like to have the bld as soon as it's available. I'm now looking forward to seeing the Guardian and the Intrepid at the Expo.
This a great ship. I played around with it in the PTU yesterday, and it is just very well done. The layout, the finishing, the lighting, everything. Only downside is the cockpit visibility, but I guess that is a MISC feature. Also played with the Polaris, and that still has some bugs that need fixing unfortunately.
Thank You for making this. I definitely grabbed one as soon as it was announced lol. I had the Zeus MKII CL but when I seen a bigger cargo ship with more storage that I can solo as a daily driver the Zeus disappeared lol. I still love the Zeus but I am building a fleet that will benefit my play style to its fullest potential and efficiency. W Content! W Content Creator!
This thing reminds me of an RV I saw in a museum a bit ago. Like a 50's Airstream globetrotter but after using the Giggles for a search it could be almost any 50's Airstream hahahaha
Beautiful ship, been through so many ships that have let me down in a major way in one way or another but the Starlancer feels like it ticks every box. Load it up with a nursa and it's a perfect "home" style ship. Fun extra detail too, the remote turret seats have buttons to activate functional blast doors on the windows.
I couldn't wait to melt the Zeus CL. It's virtually impossible to load a medium hauling mission. With the SL MAX, SOOOOOO easy. Flight speed is actually fine. QT fuel distance is very good. Excellent with multi or single crew. Took out some bounties also since the shields are so good. My new favorite ship.
Honestly the starlancer Max looks like a really good addition at being a large sized well armed cargo runner. I like the push by CIG to release more multicrew emphasized ships. It's going to be cool seeing ships like this.
Thanks for making this! I pledged for one during the Concept sale, with the idea I would either melt this one or my Hercules to fund other ships that I may want. This video helped me get a feel for this ship and, while I will still wait till I fly it to be sure, I noticed several things that are negatives I may not be able to ignore. The flashing lights on the egress ladder are incredibly distracting to me and serve no purpose (like the lights on the Terrapin cockpit canopy that I hated so much). The radar display on the cockpit dash appears unreadable. And I'm concerned by the low overhang of the vehicle bay entrance. Add to that the issue of landing lights on the Freelancers which could be a question mark here, and I now have enough info to think the C2 might simply be better for me.
I'll be a contrarian and say that this ship, to me, looked better on paper. Don't get me wrong, it offers a lot, but I'm not a fan of some design choices and overall feel of the jnterior spaces. Fortunately most issues I have seems to be related to the MAX variant and the TAC won't have them, which would be great because the TAC looked more interesting anyway.
Love seeing all the videos about this ship. I wasnt sure if i wanted to get one but after anothwr cargo debacle with the zeus and her bad cargo grid i upgraded ... now the fortune needs to be a good ship and i got an all MISC fleet XD
I upgraded my original (2013 pledged) Freelancer to the Starlancer MAX through CCU. Partly because I like the ship and all it can do, and partly so I can support CIG again a bit. Looking forward to getting out my Starlancer MAX when 3.24.3 comes out to the PU, hopefully soon. 🙂
I got the 2 pack bundle for the MAX and TAC. So far, glad I did. I'm really excited for the TAC and BLD. I was also hoping they'd do a DUR version at some point, especially if these are supposed to be the in-between of the Odyssey and Freelancers.
So is a ship going to be able to refuel and rearmed while docked? Because I would assume docking is for a quick in and out. I also like the letterbox view of the cockpit it really gives misc their own unique feel however I do wish it had like a ceiling window or something
You gotta remember that the character is more of a explorer type ship and not a cargo ship so features in a cargo ship would probably be better for cargo than the karak cargo hold which is for exploration mostly although I guess it would be nice to have a drop cargo Bay like that on the karak but the ship is a is a exploration ship so I think the karak has its own kind of personality but thank you for the video I really enjoyed it and I did become a subscriber so hoping to see some future videos like this one
I had all 3 variants for the Freelancer, but I ended up melting the DUR and the MIS to buy the Starlancer MAX. So now I have the Baby MAX and the MAX 😂 Love the design of the Starlancer!
I knew I had to have it after the announcement trailer. I've been having a blast with the Max, it's definitely going to be my home-away-from-home ship. I finally feel like I can melt my Carrack as it seems so outclassed now.
the ship I am eagerly awaiting and also the TAC variant is what has made me reevaluate my focus on what is the better dropship for what I need.... don't get me wrong the Valkyrie is still that "first love", but it is in serious need of updating.... for example the Valk needs a bit of a growth spirt... a military drop ship that can house up to an Ursa.. not the nova or the storm... whereas the Starlancer, has more versatility, bigger turrets... holds a Storm (ok glitched atm, but does house the AA very well), or two Ursa's meaning you could use a Nursa and Ursa as your ground units and still carry some cargo. the TAC has that ground fire covered, anti air support and a medical bed.... plus the ability to carry 2 Ursa sized vehicles or 1 Storm/Storm AA.... plus troops meaning it now fills that role so while I love the Valkyrie, she will always be in my list of ships but the Starlancer is her replacement in some ways and will be able to do more in combat than the Valk can... might not be as agile but then tbf neither is the Valk, those size 4's for the MAX and size 4's and size 5's for the TAC will decide the outcome
Why is the lack of a tractor beam not a -1? I would think since this is essentially directly competing with the Taurus that would be something worth marking it down for not having.
I believe that since you can have a full cargo load and vehicles loaded at the same time makes up the difference for that point, as handheld tractor beams are easy enough to use.
Thanks for the review! I don't know if I should hate or like you for this video, but you made me buy a CCU for this ship! xD unpopular opinion, I quite like the cockpit view. but yeah, gonna give us a hard time ridding it
As i learned before, starlancer is one of the best game of Chris Roberts in 2000. He did not finish the game but the game finished with success by his teammate. Chris Roberts was FIRED from Digital Anvil by Microsoft for being years late and millions over budget. Microsoft had to fire him to finish the game. So he return back with this great looking medium budget ship :)
Thank you for reviewing this beautiful ship. I completely agree with your score, it's an absolute masterpiece from the designers. My final goal would be the BLD, but in the meantime, this thing is a very good daily driver. I hope the blue skin looks as good in-game as it does on the website. P.S.: I'm not a big fan of the intro music, I liked the epic or calm pieces of music better.
I love my Starlancer♥. ATLS, Nursa and CSV onboard and still loads of cargo place. The racks in room 3 and 4 easily hold the small carry boxes. Thanks for review! (btw. it does have 6 VTOL) Pisces DOES NOT fit. Ramp just too low for it to fit :(
Very tempted to upgrade my Freelancer MAX, been a little frustrated with the cargo grid, but I think I want to keep my pledge fleet solo-able, at least until we see what engineering and fire propagation look like. This is a lot of ship to run around by yourself in an emergency. Seems like that first cargo area has so much wasted space if you don't want to bring vehicles with you. Like you could double or maybe even triple your cargo capacity. Wish they wouldn't do the extra wings on both lancer series, otherwise love the designs. Thanks for the work you put in.
'' at least until we see what engineering and fire propagation look like''. If you can leave your pilot seat while being attacked by pirates or fellow players, put out fires, change fuses, and at the same time defend yourself, well, i don't think you need to see what those features will bring, you already answered that question with your comment.
I do like the ship but I also think the cargo capacity could be more given its size. At least 256-320 on grid. Would also be nice to see a snub dock for the Mirai fury maybe. The inside is nice but I also feel there is still a little wasted space in the ship that can definitely be better utilized. I feel like we can get them to increase the speed too if we send enough WTF emails, suggestions and/or bug reports to CiG. Anyway I had upgraded my no gameplay loop concept ship the Vulcan to this. Happy but needs improvements.
I'm surprised that I like this ship so much, but, it looks like a squished finger with a dark fingernail. I can't unsee it. Great vid, thanks for the tour. o7

The Starlancer has 6 VTOL thrusters; 3 on each side. They are inset with the red lighting around them.
Hmm! I couldn’t get them to turn on!!! I’ll take another look.
Appreciate the review of the ship as I own one but waiting for IAE for it to be available.
the ship I am eagerly awaiting and also the TAC variant is what has made me reevaluate my focus on what is the better dropship for what I need....
don't get me wrong the Valkyrie is still that "first love", but it is in serious need of updating.... for example the Valk needs a bit of a growth spirt... a military drop ship that can house up to an Ursa.. not the nova or the storm...
whereas the Starlancer, has more versatility, bigger turrets... holds a Storm (ok glitched atm, but does house the AA very well), or two Ursa's meaning you could use a Nursa and Ursa as your ground units and still carry some cargo.
the TAC has that ground fire covered, anti air support and a medical bed.... plus the ability to carry 2 Ursa sized vehicles or 1 Storm/Storm AA.... plus troops meaning it now fills that role so while I love the Valkyrie, she will always be in my list of ships but the Starlancer is her replacement in some ways
and will be able to do more in combat than the Valk can... might not be as agile but then tbf neither is the Valk, those size 4's for the MAX and size 4's and size 5's for the TAC will decide the outcome
I got the max and tac. Waiting for the BLD to come out on concept to even get that as well
I love the B-24 vibes of this ship. I can't wait to fly it until the Mirai Guardian comes up!
It really looks great , for my part i baught the TAC varient , cant wait to see it on your channel
Absolutely! And I’ll be wanting to make sure it’s fully manned for the review!
I can not wait to pick up my new daily driver. Great video, brother. O7
Thank you! She’s so worth it.
I love the Freelancer...I mean Starlancer Max. I got to play with it in the PTU for a while.
it's a beautiful boat.
I was never a fan of Misc, but this is awesome and already added it to the fleet.😅
Thanks for the review!
I don't know if I should hate or like you for this video, but you made me buy a CCU for this ship! xD
unpopular opinion, I quite like the cockpit view.
but yeah, gonna give us a hard time ridding it
another banger video. this ship is gonna be my swiss army knife
Thank you!!
I got one as part of a CCU chain but I don't think that I will end up flying this as I have other cargo ships at this point.
Thanks for the feedback on the music! I try random ones once and awhile and they either hit or miss! I’ll take that one off rotation.
I feel like they fit that second internal elevator from cargo to habs in just for the sake of symmetry. it seems like wasted space.
I love my Starlancer♥. ATLS, Nursa and CSV onboard and still loads of cargo place. The racks in room 3 and 4 easily hold the small carry boxes. Thanks for review! (btw. it does have 6 VTOL) Pisces DOES NOT fit. Ramp just too low for it to fit :(
It’s an amazing ship! I added the correction to the comments. I for some reason did not see them over multiple attempts.
I am not getting one, since I got an MSR. However I got an Odyssey, so it's nice to see assets are made.
well done. It's a nice ship. Can't wait to fly my TAC
The TAC is going to be sweet!
Got one to turn into the BLD in the future but its a neat ship. Doesn't beat my Taurus due to the tractor but its a great ship.
Nice! I was sitting on a ccu for it
Amazing vessel overall. Perfect for mid-high tier contractors such as myself, this will definetly become a daily driver once she hits PU
Agreed!! 👍🏻
Great vid, thanks for the tour. o7
